 16:1 ¶ And when David was a little past the top [of the ascent], behold, Ziba the servant of Mephibosheth met him, with a couple of asses saddled, and upon them two hundred loaves of bread, and a hundred clusters of raisins, and a hundred of summer fruits, and a bottle of wine.

 16:1 ¶ And when Davidº was a littleº pastºº the topºº [of the hill], behold,º Zibaº the servantº of Mephiboshethº metºº him, with a coupleº of assesº saddled,ºº and uponº them two hundredº [loaves] of bread,º and an hundredº bunches of raisins,º and an hundredº of summer fruits,º and a bottleº of wine.º

 16:2 And the king said unto Ziba, What meanest thou by these? And Ziba said, The asses are for the king's household to ride on; and the bread and summer fruit for the young men to eat; and the wine, that such as are faint in the wilderness may drink.

 16:2 And the kingº saidºº untoº Ziba,º Whatº meanest thou by these?º And Zibaº said,ºº The assesº [be] for the king'sº householdº to ride on;ºº and the breadº and summer fruitº for the young menº to eat;ºº and the wine,º that such as be faintº in the wildernessº may drink.ºº

 16:3 And the king said, And where is thy master's son? And Ziba said unto the king, Behold, he abideth at Jerusalem; for he said, To-day will the house of Israel restore me the kingdom of my father.

 16:3 And the kingº said,ºº And whereº [is] thy master'sº son?º And Zibaº saidºº untoº the king,º Behold,º he abidethºº at Jerusalem:º forº he said,ºº To dayº shall the houseº of Israelº restoreºº meº the kingdomº of my father.º

 16:4 Then said the king to Ziba, Behold, thine is all that pertaineth unto Mephibosheth. And Ziba said, I do obeisance; let me find favor in thy sight, my lord, O king.

 16:4 Then saidºº the kingº to Ziba,º Behold,º thine [are] allº thatº [pertained] unto Mephibosheth.º And Zibaº said,ºº I humblyºº beseechº thee [that] I may findºº graceº in thy sight,º my lord,º O king.º

 16:5 ¶ And when king David came to Bahurim, behold, there came out thence a man of the family of the house of Saul, whose name was Shimei, the son of Gera; he came out, and cursed still as he came.

 16:5 ¶ And when kingº Davidº cameºº toº Bahurim,º behold,º thenceºº came outºº a manº of the familyºº of the houseº of Saul,º whose nameº [was] Shimei,º the sonº of Gera:º he came forth,ºº and cursedºº still as he came.ºº

 16:6 And he cast stones at David, and at all the servants of king David: and all the people and all the mighty men were on his right hand and on his left.

 16:6 And he castºº stonesº atº David,º and at allº the servantsº of kingº David:º and allº the peopleº and allº the mighty menº [were] on his right handºº and on his left.ºº

 16:7 And thus said Shimei when he cursed, Begone, begone, thou man of blood, and base fellow:

 16:7 And thusº saidºº Shimeiº when he cursed,ºº Come out,ºº come out,ºº thou bloodyº man,º and thou manº of Belial:º

 16:8 Jehovah hath returned upon thee all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose stead thou hast reigned; and Jehovah hath delivered the kingdom into the hand of Absalom thy son; and, behold, thou art [taken] in thine own mischief, because thou art a man of blood.

 16:8 The LORDº hath returnedºº uponº thee allº the bloodº of the houseº of Saul,º in whoseº steadº thou hast reigned;ºº and the LORDº hath deliveredººº the kingdomº into the handº of Absalomº thy son:º and, behold,º thou [art taken] in thy mischief,º becauseº thouº [art] a bloodyº man.º

 16:9 ¶ Then said Abishai the son of Zeruiah unto the king, Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? let me go over, I pray thee, and take off his head.

 16:9 ¶ Then saidºº Abishaiº the sonº of Zeruiahº untoº the king,º Whyº should thisº deadºº dogº curseººº my lordº the king?º let me go over,ºº I pray thee,º and take offººº his head.º

 16:10 And the king said, What have I to do with you, ye sons of Zeruiah? Because he curseth, and because Jehovah hath said unto him, Curse David; who then shall say, Wherefore hast thou done so?

 16:10 And the kingº said,ºº Whatº have I to do with you, ye sonsº of Zeruiah?º soº let him curse,ºº becauseº the LORDº hath saidºº unto him, Curseººº David.º Whoº shall then say,ºº Whereforeº hast thou doneº so?ººº

 16:11 And David said to Abishai, and to all his servants, Behold, my son, who came forth from my bowels, seeketh my life: how much more [may] this Benjamite now [do it]? let him alone, and let him curse; for Jehovah hath bidden him.

 16:11 And Davidº saidºº toº Abishai,º and toº allº his servants,º Behold,º my son,º whichº came forthºº of my bowels,ºº seekethººº my life:º how much moreºº nowº [may this] Benjamiteº [do it]? let him alone,ººº and let him curse;ºº forº the LORDº hath biddenºº him.

 16:12 It may be that Jehovah will look on the wrong done unto me, and that Jehovah will requite me good for [his] cursing of me this day.

 16:12 It may beº that the LORDº will lookºº on mine affliction,ººº and that the LORDº will requiteºº me goodº forº his cursingº thisº day.º

 16:13 So David and his men went by the way; and Shimei went along on the hill-side over against him, and cursed as he went, and threw stones at him, and cast dust.

 16:13 And as Davidº and his menºº wentººº by the way,º Shimeiº went alongºº on the hill'sº sideº over againstº him, and cursedºº as he went,ºº and threwºº stonesº atº him, and castºº dust.º

 16:14 And the king, and all the people that were with him, came weary; and he refreshed himself there.

 16:14 And the king,º and allº the peopleº thatº [were] withº him, cameºº weary,º and refreshedºº themselvesº there.º

 16:15 ¶ And Absalom, and all the people, the men of Israel, came to Jerusalem, and Ahithophel with him.

 16:15 ¶ And Absalom,º and allº the peopleº the menº of Israel,º cameºº to Jerusalem,º and Ahithophelº withº him.

 16:16 And it came to pass, when Hushai the Archite, David's friend, was come unto Absalom, that Hushai said unto Absalom, [Long] live the king, [Long] live the king.

 16:16 And it came to pass,º whenº Hushaiº the Archite,º David'sº friend,º was comeºº untoº Absalom,º that Hushaiº saidºº untoº Absalom,º God saveºº the king,º God saveºº the king.º

 16:17 And Absalom said to Hushai, Is this thy kindness to thy friend? why wentest thou not with thy friend?

 16:17 And Absalomº saidºº toº Hushai,º [Is] thisº thy kindnessº toº thy friend?º whyº wentestºº thou notº withº thy friend?º

 16:18 And Hushai said unto Absalom, Nay; but whom Jehovah, and this people, and all the men of Israel have chosen, his will I be, and with him will I abide.

 16:18 And Hushaiº saidºº untoº Absalom,º Nay;º butº whomº the LORD,º and thisº people,º and allº the menº of Israel,º choose,ºº his will I be,º and withº him will I abide.ºº

 16:19 And again, whom should I serve? [should I] not [serve] in the presence of his son? as I have served in thy father's presence, so will I be in thy presence.

 16:19 And again,º whomº should Iº serve?ºº [should I] notº [serve] in the presenceº of his son?º asº I have servedºº in thy father'sº presence,º soº will I beº in thy presence.º

 16:20 ¶ Then said Absalom to Ahithophel, Give your counsel what we shall do.

 16:20 ¶ Then saidºº Absalomº toº Ahithophel,º Giveºº counselº among you whatº we shall do.ºº

 16:21 And Ahithophel said unto Absalom, Go in unto thy father's concubines, that he hath left to keep the house; and all Israel will hear that thou art abhorred of thy father: then will the hands of all that are with thee be strong.

 16:21 And Ahithophelº saidºº untoº Absalom,º Goº inºº untoº thy father'sº concubines,º whichº he hath leftººº to keepºº the house;º and allº Israelº shall hearºº thatº thou art abhorredºº ofº thy father:º then shall the handsº of allº thatº [are] withº thee be strong.ºº

 16:22 So they spread Absalom a tent upon the top of the house; and Absalom went in unto his father's concubines in the sight of all Israel.

 16:22 So they spreadºº Absalomº a tentº uponº the topº of the house;º and Absalomº wentº inºº untoº his father'sº concubinesº in the sightº of allº Israel.º

 16:23 And the counsel of Ahithophel, which he gave in those days, was as if a man inquired at the oracle of God: so was all the counsel of Ahithophel both with David and with Absalom.

 16:23 And the counselº of Ahithophel,º whichº he counselledºº in thoseº days,º [was] asº if a manº had enquiredºº at the oracleº of God:º soº [was] allº the counselº of Ahithophelº bothº with Davidº andº with Absalom.º
