 29:1 ¶ And Job continued and said in his parable,

 29:1 ¶ Moreoverº Jobº continuedºººº his parable,º and said,ºº

 29:2 Oh that I were as in months past, wherein God preserved me!

 29:2 Oh thatººº I wereº as [in] monthsº past,º as [in] the daysº [when] Eloahº preservedºº me;

 29:3 As when his lamp shone over my head; when by his light I walked through darkness.

 29:3 When his candleº shinedºº uponº my head,º [and when] by his lightº I walkedººº [through] darkness;º

 29:4 [As] when I steadfastly pursued my ways, when God took care of my house.

 29:4 Asº I wasº in the daysº of my youth,º when the secretº of Eloahº [was] uponº my tabernacle;º

 29:5 When I was very fruitful, and my children were about me;

 29:5 When Shaddaiº [was] yetº withº me, [when] my childrenº [were] aboutº me;

 29:6 when my ways were moistened with butter, and the mountains flowed for me with milk.

 29:6 When I washedºº my stepsº with butter,º and the rockº poured me outººº riversº of oil;º

 29:7 When I went forth early in the city, and the seat was placed for me in the streets.

 29:7 When I went outºº to the gateº throughº the city,º [when] I preparedºº my seatº in the street!º

 29:8 The young men saw me, and hid themselves: and all the old men stood up.

 29:8 The young menº sawºº me, and hidºº themselves:º and the agedº arose,ºº [and] stood up.ºº

 29:9 And the great men ceased speaking, and laid their finger on their mouth.

 29:9 The princesº refrainedºº talking,º and laidºº [their] handº on their mouth.º

 29:10 And they that heard [me] blessed me, and their tongue clave to their throat.

 29:10 The noblesº heldºº their peace,º and their tongueº cleavedºº to the roof of their mouth.º

 29:11 For the ear heard, and blessed me; and the eye saw me, and turned aside.

 29:11 Whenº the earº heardºº [me], then it blessedºº me; and when the eyeº sawºº [me], it gave witnessºº to me:

 29:12 For I saved the poor out of the hand of the oppressor, and helped the fatherless who had no helper.

 29:12 Becauseº I deliveredºº the poorº that cried,ºº and the fatherless,º and [him that had] noneº to helpºº him.

 29:13 Let the blessing of the perishing one come upon me; yea, the mouth of the widow has blessed me.

 29:13 The blessingº of him that was ready to perishºº cameºº uponº me: and I caused the widow'sº heartº to sing for joy.ºº

 29:14 Also I put on righteousness, and clothed myself with judgment like a mantle.

 29:14 I putºº onº righteousness,º and it clothedºº me: my judgmentº [was] as a robeº and a diadem.º

 29:15 I was the eye of the blind, and the foot of the lame.

 29:15 I wasº eyesº to the blind,º and feetº [was] Iº to the lame.º

 29:16 I was the father of the helpless; and I searched out the cause which I knew not.

 29:16 Iº [was] a fatherº to the poor:º and the causeº [which] I knewºº notº I searched out.ºº

 29:17 And I broke the jaw-teeth of the unrighteous; I plucked the spoil out of the midst of their teeth.

 29:17 And I brakeºº the jawsº of the wicked,º and pluckedºº the spoilº out of his teeth.ºº

 29:18 And I said, My age shall continue as the stem of a palm-tree; I shall live a long while.

 29:18 Then I said,ºº I shall dieºº inº my nest,º and I shall multiplyºº [my] daysº as the sand.º

 29:19 [My] root was spread out by the water, and the dew would lodge on my crop.

 29:19 My rootº [was] spread outºº byº the waters,º and the dewº lay all nightºº upon my branch.º

 29:20 My glory was fresh in me, and by bow prospered in his hand.

 29:20 My gloryº [was] freshº inº me,º and my bowº was renewedºº in my hand.º

 29:21 [Men] heard me, and gave heed, and they were silent at my counsel.

 29:21 Unto me [men] gave ear,ºº and waited,ºº and kept silenceºº atº my counsel.º

 29:22 At my word they spoke not again, and they were very gland whenever I spoke to them.

 29:22 Afterº my wordsº they spake not again;ººº and my speechº droppedºº uponº them.

 29:23 As the thirsty earth expecting the rain, so they [waited for] my speech.

 29:23 And they waitedºº for me as for the rain;º and they openedºº their mouthº wide [as] for the latter rain.º

 29:24 Were I to laugh on them, they would not believe [it]; and the light of my face has not failed.

 29:24 [If] I laughedºº onº them, they believedºº [it] not;º and the lightº of my countenanceº they cast not down.ººº

 29:25 I chose out their way, and sat chief, and dwelt as a king in the midst of warriors, as one comforting mourners.

 29:25 I choseºº outº their way,º and satºº chief,º and dweltºº as a kingº in the army,º asº one [that] comfortethºº the mourners.º
