[children], saying,ºº |

10:1 ¶
And Achav had seventy sons in Shomron. And Yehu wrote letters, and sent to Shomron, unto the rulers of Yizreel, to the elders, and to them that brought up Achav's [children], saying, |

Nowº
as soon as thisº
letterº
comethºº
toº
you, seeing your
´áðôn's
אֲדוֹןº
sonsº
[are] withº
you, and [there are] withº
you chariotsº
and horses,º
a fencedº
cityº
also, and armour;º |

10:2
Now as soon as this letter cometh to you, seeing your adon's sons [are] with you, and [there are] with you chariots and horses, a fenced city also, and armour; |

10:3
Look even outºº
the bestº
and meetestº
of your
´áðôn's
אֲדוֹןº
sons,ººº
and setºº
[him] onº
his father'sº
throne,º
and fightºº
forº
your
´áðôn's
אֲדוֹןº
house.º |
|
10:3
Look even out the best and meetest of your adon's sons, and set [him] on his father's throne, and fight for your adon's house. |
|
10:4
But they were exceedinglyº
afraid,ºº
and said,ºº
Behold,º
twoº
kingsº
stoodºº
notº
beforeº
him: howº
then shall weº
stand?ºº |
|
10:4
But they were exceedingly afraid, and said, Behold, two kings stood not before him: how then shall we stand? |
|
10:5
And he thatº
[was] overº
the house,º
and he thatº
[was] overº
the city,º
the eldersº
also, and the bringers upºº
[of the children], sentºº
toº
Yëhû´
יֵהוּא,º
saying,ºº
Weº
[are] thy servants,º
and will doºº
allº
thatº
thou shalt bidººº
us; we will notº
make anyº
king:ººº
doºº
thou [that which is] goodº
in thine eyes.º |

And he that [was] over the house, and he that [was] over the city, the elders also, and the bringers up [of the children], sent to Yehu, saying, We [are] thy servants, and will do all that thou shalt bid us; we will not make any king: do thou [that which is] good in thine eyes. |
|

Then he wroteºº
a letterº

them, saying,ºº

[be] mine, and [if] yeº
will hearkenºº
unto my voice,º
takeºº
yeº
the headsº
of the menºº
your

this time.º
Now the king'sº
sons,º
[being] seventyº
persons,º
[were] withº
the great menº
of the city,º
which brought them up.ººº |

Then he wrote a letter the second time to them, saying, If ye [be] mine, and [if] ye will hearken unto my voice, take ye the heads of the men your adon's sons, and come to me to Yizreel by to morrow this time. Now the king's sons, [being] seventy persons, [were] with the great men of the city, which brought them up. |
|

And it came to pass,º
when the letterº

toº
them, that they tookººº
the king'sº
sons,º
and slewºº
seventyº
persons,º
and putººº
their headsº
in baskets,º
and sentººº
him [them] to
Yizræ`e´l
יִזרְעֶאל.º |

10:7
And it came to pass, when the letter came to them, that they took the king's sons, and slew seventy persons, and put their heads in baskets, and sent him [them] to Yizreel. |
|
10:8 ¶
And there cameºº
a messenger,º
and toldºº
him, saying,ºº
They have broughtºº
the headsº
of the king'sº
sons.º
And he said,ºº
Layºº
ye them in twoº
heapsº
at the entering inº
of the gateº
untilº
the morning.º |
|
10:8 ¶
And there came a messenger, and told him, saying, They have brought the heads of the king's sons. And he said, Lay ye them in two heaps at the entering in of the gate until the morning. |
|
10:9
And it came to passº
in the morning,º
that he went out,ºº
and stood,ºº
and saidºº
toº
allº
the people,º
Yeº
[be] righteous:º
behold,º
Iº
conspiredºº
againstº
my
´áðôn
אֲדוֹן,º
and slewºº
him: but whoº
slewººº
allº
these?º |

10:9
And it came to pass in the morning, that he went out, and stood, and said to all the people, Ye [be] righteous: behold, I conspired against my adon, and slew him: but who slew all these? |
|

Knowºº
nowº
thatº
there shall fallºº
unto the earthº
nothingº
of the wordºº
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה,º
whichº
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
spakeºº
concerningº
the houseº
of
´Aç´äv
אַחאָב:º
for
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
hath doneººº
[that] whichº
he spakeºº
byº
his servantº
´Ëliyyà
אֵלִיָּה.º |

10:10
Know now that there shall fall unto the earth nothing of the word of Yahweh, which Yahweh spake concerning the house of Achav: for Yahweh hath done [that] which he spake by his servant Eliyyah. |
|

So Yehu slew all that remained of the house of Achav in Yizreel, and all his great men, and his kinsfolks, and his priests, until he left him none remaining. |
|
10:12 ¶
And he aroseºº
and departed,ºº
and cameººº
to
Šömrôn
שֹׁמרוֹן.º
[And] as heº
[was] at the shearingºº
houseººº
in the way,º |

10:12 ¶
And he arose and departed, and came to Shomron. [And] as he [was] at the shearing house in the way, |

the brethrenº

´Áçazyà
אֲחַזיָהº
kingº
of
Yæhûðà
יְהוּדָה,º
and said,ºº
Whoº
[are] ye?º
And they answered,ºº
Weº
[are] the brethrenº
of
´Áçazyà
אֲחַזיָה;º
and we go downºº
to saluteº
the childrenº
of the kingº
and the childrenº
of the queen.º |

Yehu met with the brethren of Achazyah king of Yehudah, and said, Who [are] ye? And they answered, We [are] the brethren of Achazyah; and we go down to salute the children of the king and the children of the queen. |
|
10:14
And he said,ºº
Takeºº
them alive.º
And they tookºº
them alive,º
and slewºº
them atº
the pitº
of the shearing house,º
[even] twoº
and fortyº
men;º
neitherº
leftºº
he anyº
ofº
them. |

10:14
And he said, Take them alive. And they took them alive, and slew them at the pit of the shearing house, [even] two and forty men; neither left he any of them. |
|
10:15 ¶
And when he was departedººº
thence,ºº
he lightedºº
onºº

יְהוֹנָדָבº
the sonº
of
Rë¢äv
רֵכָבº
[coming] to meetººº
him: and he salutedºº
him, and saidºº
toº
him, Isºº
thine heartº
right,º
asº
my heartº
[is] withº
thy heart?º
And
Yæhônäðäv
יְהוֹנָדָבº
answered,ºº
It is.º
If it be,º
giveºº
[me]º
thine hand.º
And he gaveºº
[him] his hand;º
and he took him upºº
toº
him intoº
the chariot.º |

10:15 ¶
And when he was departed thence, he lighted on Yehonadav the son of Rekhav [coming] to meet him: and he saluted him, and said to him, Is thine heart right, as my heart [is] with thy heart? And Yehonadav answered, It is. If it be, give [me] thine hand. And he gave [him] his hand; and he took him up to him into the chariot. |

And he said,ºº
Comeººº

me, and seeºº
my zealº
for
Yähwè
יָהוֶה.º
So they made him rideºº
in his chariot.º |

10:16
And he said, Come with me, and see my zeal for Yahweh. So they made him ride in his chariot. |

10:17
And when he cameºº

שֹׁמרוֹן,º
he slewººº
allº
that remainedºº
unto
´Aç´äv
אַחאָבº
in
Šömrôn
שֹׁמרוֹן,º
tillº
he had destroyedºº
him, according to the sayingº
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה,º
whichº
he spakeºº
toº
´Ëliyyà
אֵלִיָּה.º |

10:17
And when he came to Shomron, he slew all that remained unto Achav in Shomron, till he had destroyed him, according to the saying of Yahweh, which he spake to Eliyyah. |
|
10:18 ¶
And

the peopleº
together,ºº
and saidºº
untoº
them,

אַחאָבº
servedººº
Bä`al
בָּעַלº
a little;º
[but]
Yëhû´
יֵהוּאº
shall serveºº

10:18 ¶
And Yehu gathered all the people together, and said unto them, Achav served Baal a little; [but] Yehu shall serve him much. |
|

Nowº
therefore callºº
untoº
me allº
the prophetsº
of
Bä`al
בָּעַל,º
allº
his servants,ºº
and allº
his priests;º
let noneºº
be wanting:ºº
forº
I have a greatº
sacrificeº
[to do] to
Bä`al
בָּעַל;º
whosoeverºº
shall be wanting,ºº
he shall notº
live.ºº
But
Yëhû´
יֵהוּאº
didºº
[it] in subtilty,º
to the intentº
that he might destroyººº
the worshippersºº
of
Bä`al
בָּעַל.º |

10:19
Now therefore call unto me all the prophets of Baal, all his servants, and all his priests; let none be wanting: for I have a great sacrifice [to do] to Baal; whosoever shall be wanting, he shall not live. But Yehu did [it] in subtilty, to the intent that he might destroy the worshippers of Baal. |
|
10:20
And

Proclaimºº
a solemn assemblyº
for
Bä`al
בָּעַל.º
And they proclaimedºº
[it]. |

10:20
And Yehu said, Proclaim a solemn assembly for Baal. And they proclaimed [it]. |

And
Yëhû´
יֵהוּאº
sentºº
through allº
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל:º
and allº
the worshippersºº
of
Bä`al
בָּעַלº
came,ºº
so that there was notº
a manº
leftºº
thatº
cameºº
not.º
And they cameºº
into the houseº
of
Bä`al
בָּעַל;º
and the houseº
of
Bä`al
בָּעַלº
was fullºº
from one endº
to another.º |

10:21
And Yehu sent through all Yisrael: and all the worshippers of Baal came, so that there was not a man left that came not. And they came into the house of Baal; and the house of Baal was full from one end to another. |
|
10:22
And he saidºº
unto him thatº
[was] overº
the vestry,º
Bring forthºº
vestmentsº
for allº
the worshippersºº
of
Bä`al
בָּעַל.º
And he brought them forthºº
vestments.º |
|
10:22
And he said unto him that [was] over the vestry, Bring forth vestments for all the worshippers of Baal. And he brought them forth vestments. |
|
10:23
And
Yëhû´
יֵהוּאº
went,ºº
and
Yæhônäðäv
יְהוֹנָדָבº
the sonº
of
Rë¢äv
רֵכָב,º
into the houseº
of
Bä`al
בָּעַל,º
and saidºº
unto the worshippersºº
of
Bä`al

Search,ºº
and lookºº
thatº
there beº
hereº
withº
you none of the servantsºº
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה,º
butºº
the worshippersºº
of
Bä`al
בָּעַלº
only.º |

10:23
And Yehu went, and Yehonadav the son of Rekhav, into the house of Baal, and said unto the worshippers of Baal, Search, and look that there be here with you none of the servants of Yahweh, but the worshippers of Baal only. |
|
10:24
And when they went inºº
to offerºº
sacrificesº
and burnt offerings,º
Yëhû´
יֵהוּאº
appointedºº
fourscoreº
menº
without,º
and said,ºº
[If] anyº
ofº
the menºº
whomº
Iº
have broughtºº
intoº
your handsº
escape,ºº
[he that letteth him go], his lifeº
[shall be] forº
the lifeº
of him. |

And when they went in to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings, Yehu appointed fourscore men without, and said, [If] any of the men whom I have brought into your hands escape, [he that letteth him go], his life [shall be] for the life of him. |
|
10:25
And it came to pass,º
as soon as he had made an endºº
of offeringºº
the burnt offering,º
that
Yëhû´
יֵהוּאº
saidºº
to the guardºº
and to the captains,º
Go in,ºº
[and] slayºº
them; let noneºº
come forth.ºº
And they smoteºº
them with the edgeº
of the sword;º
and the guardºº
and the captainsº
cast [them] out,ºº
and wentººº
toº
the cityº
of the houseº
of
Bä`al
בָּעַל.º |

10:25
And it came to pass, as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, that Yehu said to the guard and to the captains, Go in, [and] slay them; let none come forth. And they smote them with the edge of the sword; and the guard and the captains cast [them] out, and went to the city of the house of Baal. |
|
10:26
And they brought forthººº
the imagesº
out of the houseº

בָּעַל,º
and burnedºº
them. |
|

And they brought forth the images out of the house of Baal, and burned them. |
|
10:27
And they brake downººº
the imageº
of
Bä`al
בָּעַל,º
and brake downººº
the houseº

Bä`al
בָּעַל,º
and madeºº
it a draught houseººº
untoº
this day.º |

And they brake down the image of Baal, and brake down the house of Baal, and made it a draught house unto this day. |
|

Thus

Thus Yehu destroyed Baal out of Yisrael. |

them, [to wit], the goldenº
calvesº

Howbeit [from] the sins of Yorovam the son of Nevat, who made Yisrael to sin, Yehu departed not from after them, [to wit], the golden calves that [were] in Beth-El, and that [were] in Dan. |

And Yahweh said unto Yehu, Because thou hast done well in executing [that which is] right in mine eyes, [and] hast done unto the house of Achav according to all that [was] in mine heart, thy children of the fourth [generation] shall sit on the throne of Yisrael. |
|

But Yehu took no heed to walk in the law of Yahweh Elohim of Yisrael with all his heart: for he departed not from the sins of Yorovam, which made Yisrael to sin. |

From Yarden eastward, all the land of Gilad, the Gadim, and the Reuvenim, and the Menashshim, from Aroer, which [is] by the river Arnon, even Gilad and Bashan. |

And Yehu slept with his fathers: and they buried him in Shomron. And Yehoachaz his son reigned in his stead. |
