17:1 ¶
In the twelfth year of Achaz king of Yehudah began Hoshea the son of Elah to reign in Shomron over Yisrael nine years. |
|
17:2
And he didºº
[that which was] evilº
in the sightº
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה,º
butº
notº
as the kingsº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵלº
thatº
wereº
beforeº
him. |
|
17:2
And he did [that which was] evil in the sight of Yahweh, but not as the kings of Yisrael that were before him. |
|
17:3 ¶
Againstº
him came upºº
Šalman´eser
שַׁלמַנאֶסֶרº
kingº
of
´Aššûr
אַשּׁוּר;º
and
Hôšëå`
הוֹשֵׁעַº
becameº
his servant,º
and gaveºº
him presents.º |

17:3 ¶
Against him came up Shalmaneser king of Ashshur; and Hoshea became his servant, and gave him presents. |
|
17:4
And the kingº
of
´Aššûr
אַשּׁוּרº
foundºº
conspiracyº
in
Hôšëå`
הוֹשֵׁעַ:º
for he had sentºº
messengersº
toº
Sô´
סוֹאº
kingº
of
Mixrayim
מִצרַיִם,º
and broughtºº
noº
presentº
to the kingº
of
´Aššûr
אַשּׁוּר,º
as [he had done] yearº
by year:º
therefore the kingº
of
´Aššûr
אַשּׁוּרº
shut him up,ºº
and boundºº
him in prison.ºº |

17:4
And the king of Ashshur found conspiracy in Hoshea: for he had sent messengers to So king of Mitzrayim, and brought no present to the king of Ashshur, as [he had done] year by year: therefore the king of Ashshur shut him up, and bound him in prison. |
|
17:5 ¶
Then the kingº
of
´Aššûr
אַשּׁוּרº
came upºº
throughout allº
the land,º
and went upºº
to
Šömrôn
שֹׁמרוֹן,º
and besiegedººº
it threeº
years.º |

17:5 ¶
Then the king of Ashshur came up throughout all the land, and went up to Shomron, and besieged it three years. |
|
17:6 ¶
In the ninthº

the kingº

´Aššûr
אַשּׁוּרº
tookººº
Šömrôn
שֹׁמרוֹן,º
and carriedºº
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵלº
awayºººº

´Aššûr
אַשּׁוּר,º
and placedºº
them in
Çælaç
חְלַחº
and in
Çävôr
חָבוֹרº
[by] the riverº
of
Gôzän
גּוֹזָן,º
and in the citiesº
of the
Mäðîm
מָדִים.º |

17:6 ¶
In the ninth year of Hoshea the king of Ashshur took Shomron, and carried Yisrael away into Ashshur, and placed them in Chelach and in Chavor [by] the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Madim. |
|
17:7
For [so] it was,º
thatº
the childrenº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵלº
had sinnedºº
against
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
their
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים,º
which had brought them upººº
out of the landºº
of
Mixrayim
מִצרַיִם,º
from underºº
the handº
of
Par`ò
פַּרעֹהº
kingº
of
Mixrayim
מִצרַיִם,º
and had fearedºº
otherº
´élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים,º |

17:7
For [so] it was, that the children of Yisrael had sinned against Yahweh their Elohim, which had brought them up out of the land of Mitzrayim, from under the hand of Paroh king of Mitzrayim, and had feared other elohim, |
|
17:8
And walkedººº
in the statutesº
of the heathen,º
whomº
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
cast outºº
from beforeºº
the childrenº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל,º
and of the kingsº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל,º
whichº
they had made.ºº |

17:8
And walked in the statutes of the heathen, whom Yahweh cast out from before the children of Yisrael, and of the kings of Yisrael, which they had made. |
|
17:9
And the childrenº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵלº
did secretlyºº
[those] thingsº
thatº
[were] notº
rightº
againstº
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
their
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים,º
and they builtºº
them high placesº
in allº
their cities,º
from the towerºº
of the watchmenºº
toº
the fencedº
city.º |

17:9
And the children of Yisrael did secretly [those] things that [were] not right against Yahweh their Elohim, and they built them high places in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city. |
|
17:10
And they set them upºº
imagesº
and grovesº
inº
everyº
highº
hill,º
and underº
everyº
greenº
tree:º |
|
17:10
And they set them up images and groves in every high hill, and under every green tree: |
|
17:11
And thereº
they burnt incenseºº
in allº
the high places,º
as [did] the heathenº
whomº
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
carried awayºº
beforeºº
them; and wroughtºº
wickedº
thingsº
to provokeºº
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
to anger:ºº |

17:11
And there they burnt incense in all the high places, as [did] the heathen whom Yahweh carried away before them; and wrought wicked things to provoke Yahweh to anger: |

17:12
For they servedºº
idols,º
whereofº
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
had saidºº
unto them, Ye shall notº
doººº
thisº
thing.º |
|
17:12
For they served idols, whereof Yahweh had said unto them, Ye shall not do this thing. |
|
17:13
Yet
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
testifiedºº
against
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל,º
and against
Yæhûðà
יְהוּדָה,º
byº
allº
the prophets,º
[and by] allº
the seers,º
saying,ºº
Turnºº
ye from your evilº
ways,ººº
and keepºº
my commandmentsº
[and] my statutes,º
according to allº
the lawº
whichº
I commandedººº
your fathers,º
and whichº
I sentºº
toº
you byº
my servantsº
the prophets.º |

17:13
Yet Yahweh testified against Yisrael, and against Yehudah, by all the prophets, [and by] all the seers, saying, Turn ye from your evil ways, and keep my commandments [and] my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets. |
|
17:14
Notwithstanding they would notº
hear,ºº
but hardenedººº
their necks,º
like to the neckº
of their fathers,º
thatº
did notº
believeºº
in
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
their
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים.º |
|
17:14
Notwithstanding they would not hear, but hardened their necks, like to the neck of their fathers, that did not believe in Yahweh their Elohim. |
|
17:15
And they rejectedººº
his statutes,º
and his covenantº
thatº
he madeºº
withº
their fathers,º
and his testimoniesº
whichº
he testifiedºº
against them; and they followedºººº
vanity,º
and became vain,ºº
and went afterº
the heathenº
thatº
[were] round aboutº
them, [concerning] whomº
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
had chargedºº
them, that they should notº
doºº
like them. |

17:15
And they rejected his statutes, and his covenant that he made with their fathers, and his testimonies which he testified against them; and they followed vanity, and became vain, and went after the heathen that [were] round about them, [concerning] whom Yahweh had charged them, that they should not do like them. |
|
17:16
And they leftººº
allº
the commandmentsº
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
their
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים,º
and madeºº
them molten images,º
[even] twoº
calves,º
and madeºº
a grove,º
and worshippedºº
allº
the hostº
of heaven,º
and servedººº
Bä`al
בָּעַל.º |

17:16
And they left all the commandments of Yahweh their Elohim, and made them molten images, [even] two calves, and made a grove, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served Baal. |
|
17:17
And they causedº
their sonsº
and their daughtersº
to passºº
throughº
the fire,º
and usedºº
divinationº
and enchantments,ºº
and soldºº
themselvesº
to doºº
evilº
in the sightº
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה,º
to provoke him to anger.ºº |

17:17
And they caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire, and used divination and enchantments, and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of Yahweh, to provoke him to anger. |
|
17:18
Therefore
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
was veryº
angryººº
with
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל,º
and removedºº
them out ofºº
his sight:º
there was noneº
leftºº
butº
the tribeº
of
Yæhûðà
יְהוּדָהº
only.º |

17:18
Therefore Yahweh was very angry with Yisrael, and removed them out of his sight: there was none left but the tribe of Yehudah only. |
|
17:19
Alsoº
Yæhûðà
יְהוּדָהº
keptºº
notºº
the commandmentsº
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
their
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים,º
but walkedººº
in the statutesº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵלº
whichº
they made.ºº |

17:19
Also Yehudah kept not the commandments of Yahweh their Elohim, but walked in the statutes of Yisrael which they made. |
|
17:20
And
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
rejectedºº
allº
the seedº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל,º
and afflictedºº
them, and deliveredºº
them into the handº
of spoilers,ºº
untilºº
he had castºº
them outº
of his sight.ºº |

17:20
And Yahweh rejected all the seed of Yisrael, and afflicted them, and delivered them into the hand of spoilers, until he had cast them out of his sight. |
|
17:21

the houseº

דָּוִד;º
and they madeº

יָרָבעָםº
the sonº

and made them sinºº
a greatº

17:21
For he rent Yisrael from the house of Dawid; and they made Yorovam the son of Nevat king: and Yorovam drave Yisrael from following Yahweh, and made them sin a great sin. |
|
17:22
For the childrenº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵלº
walkedººº
in allº
the sinsº
of
Yorov`äm
יָרָבעָםº
whichº
he did;ºº
they departedºº
notº
fromº
them; |
|
17:22
For the children of Yisrael walked in all the sins of Yorovam which he did; they departed not from them; |
|
17:23
Untilºº
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
removedººº
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵלº
out ofºº
his sight,º
asº
he had saidºº
byº
allº
his servantsº
the prophets.º
So was
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵלº
carried awayºº
out ofºº
their own landº
to
´Aššûr
אַשּׁוּרº
untoº
thisº
day.º |

17:23
Until Yahweh removed Yisrael out of his sight, as he had said by all his servants the prophets. So was Yisrael carried away out of their own land to Ashshur unto this day. |
|
17:24 ¶
And the kingº
of
´Aššûr
אַשּׁוּרº
broughtºº
[men] from
Bävel
בָּבֶל,ºº
and from
Cû±à
כּוּתָה,ºº
and from
`Awwä´
עַוָּא,ºº
and from
Çámä±
חֲמָת,ºº
and from
Sæfarwayim
סְפַרוַיִם,º
and placedºº
[them] in the citiesº
of
Šömrôn
שֹׁמרוֹןº
insteadº
of the childrenº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל:º
and they possessedººº
Šömrôn
שֹׁמרוֹן,º
and dweltºº
in the citiesº
thereof. |

17:24 ¶
And the king of Ashshur brought [men] from Bavel, and from Kuthah, and from Awwa, and from Chamath, and from Sefarwayim, and placed [them] in the cities of Shomron instead of the children of Yisrael: and they possessed Shomron, and dwelt in the cities thereof. |
|
17:25
And [so] it wasº
at the beginningº
of their dwellingºº
there,º
[that] they fearedºº
notºº
Yähwè
יָהוֶה:º
therefore
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
sentººº
lionsº
among them, which slewºº
[some] of them. |
|
17:25
And [so] it was at the beginning of their dwelling there, [that] they feared not Yahweh: therefore Yahweh sent lions among them, which slew [some] of them. |
|
17:26
Wherefore they spakeºº
to the kingº
of
´Aššûr
אַשּׁוּר,º
saying,ºº
The nationsº
whichº
thou hast removed,ºº
and placedºº
in the citiesº
of
Šömrôn
שֹׁמרוֹן,º
knowºº
notºº
the mannerº
of the
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִיםº
of the land:º
therefore he hath sentººº
lionsº
among them, and, behold,º
they slayºº
them, becauseº
they knowºº
notºº
the mannerº
of the
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִיםº
of the land.º |

17:26
Wherefore they spake to the king of Ashshur, saying, The nations which thou hast removed, and placed in the cities of Shomron, know not the manner of the Elohim of the land: therefore he hath sent lions among them, and, behold, they slay them, because they know not the manner of the Elohim of the land. |
|
17:27
Then the kingº

´Aššûr

commanded,ºº
saying,ºº
Carryººº
thitherº
oneº
of the priestsºº
whomº
ye broughtºº
from thence;ºº
and let them goººº
and dwellºº
there,º
and let him teachºº
themº
the mannerº
of the
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִיםº
of the land.º |

17:27
Then the king of Ashshur commanded, saying, Carry thither one of the priests whom ye brought from thence; and let them go and dwell there, and let him teach them the manner of the Elohim of the land. |
|
17:28
Then oneº
of the priestsºº
whomº
they had carried awayºº
from
Šömrôn
שֹׁמרוֹןºº
cameºº
and dweltºº
in
Bê± ´Ël
בֵּית־אֵל,º
and taughtºº
them howº
they should fearººº
Yähwè
יָהוֶה.º |

17:28
Then one of the priests whom they had carried away from Shomron came and dwelt in Beth-El, and taught them how they should fear Yahweh. |
|
17:29
Howbeit every nationº
madeºº
´élöhîm
אֱלֹהִיםº
of their own, and putººº
[them] in the housesº
of the high placesº
whichº
the
Šömrônîm
שֹׁמרוֹנִיםº
had made,ºº
every nationº
in their citiesº
whereinºº
theyº
dwelt.ºº |

17:29
Howbeit every nation made elohim of their own, and put [them] in the houses of the high places which the Shomronim had made, every nation in their cities wherein they dwelt. |
|
17:30
And the menºº
of

madeººº

and the menºº

And the men of Bavel made Sukkoth-Benoth, and the men of Kuth made Nergal, and the men of Chamath made Ashima, |

17:31
And the

נִבחַזº
and
Tartäk
תַּרתָּק,º
and the
Sæfarwîm
סְפַרוִיםºº
burntººº
their childrenº
in fireº
to
´Aðrammele¢
אַדרַמֶּלֶךº
and
`Ánammele¢
עֲנַמֶּלֶך,º
the
´élöhîm
אֱלֹהִיםº
of
Sæfarwayim
סְפַרוַיִם.º |

17:31
And the Awwim made Nivchaz and Tartaq, and the Sefarwim burnt their children in fire to Adrammelekh and Anammelekh, the elohim of Sefarwayim. |
|
17:32
So they fearedºººº
Yähwè
יָהוֶה,º
and madeºº
unto themselves of the lowestºº
of them priestsº
of the high places,º
which sacrificedºº
for them in the housesº
of the high places.º |

17:32
So they feared Yahweh, and made unto themselves of the lowest of them priests of the high places, which sacrificed for them in the houses of the high places. |
|
17:33
They fearedºººº

יָהוֶה,º
and servedººº
their own
´élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים,º
after the mannerº
of the nationsº
whomºº
they carried awayºº
from thence.ºº |

17:33
They feared Yahweh, and served their own elohim, after the manner of the nations whom they carried away from thence. |

they after their statutes,º

Unto this day they do after the former manners: they fear not Yahweh, neither do they after their statutes, or after their ordinances, or after the law and commandment which Yahweh commanded the children of Yaaqov, whom he named Yisrael; |

a covenant,º
and chargedºº
them, saying,ºº
Ye shall notº
fearºº
otherº
´élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים,º

bowºº
yourselvesº
to them, norº
serveºº

With whom Yahweh had made a covenant, and charged them, saying, Ye shall not fear other elohim, nor bow yourselves to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them: |

17:36

יָהוֶה,º
whoº
brought you upººº
out of the landºº
of
Mixrayim
מִצרַיִםº
with greatº
powerº
and a stretched outºº
arm,º
him shall ye fear,ºº
and him shall ye worship,ºº
and to him shall ye do sacrifice.ºº |

17:36
But Yahweh, who brought you up out of the land of Mitzrayim with great power and a stretched out arm, him shall ye fear, and him shall ye worship, and to him shall ye do sacrifice. |
|
17:37
And the statutes,º
and the ordinances,º
and the law,º
and the commandment,º
whichº
he wroteºº
for you, ye shall observeºº
to doºº
for evermore;ºº
and ye shall notº
fearºº
otherº
´élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים.º |

17:37
And the statutes, and the ordinances, and the law, and the commandment, which he wrote for you, ye shall observe to do for evermore; and ye shall not fear other elohim. |
|
17:38
And the covenantº
thatº
I have madeºº
withº
you ye shall notº
forget;ºº
neitherº
shall ye fearºº
otherº
´élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים.º |

17:38
And the covenant that I have made with you ye shall not forget; neither shall ye fear other elohim. |
|
17:39

your
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִיםº
ye shall fear;ºº
and heº
shall deliverºº
you out of the handºº
of allº
your enemies.ºº |

17:39
But Yahweh your Elohim ye shall fear; and he shall deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies. |

Howbeit they did notº
hearken,ºº
butºº
theyº
didºº
after their formerº
manner.º |
|
17:40
Howbeit they did not hearken, but they did after their former manner. |
|
17:41
So theseº
nationsº
fearedºººº
Yähwè
יָהוֶה,º
and servedºº
their graven images,º
bothº
their children,º
and their children'sº
children:º
asº
didºº
their fathers,º
so doºº
theyº
untoº
thisº
day.º |

17:41
So these nations feared Yahweh, and served their graven images, both their children, and their children's children: as did their fathers, so do they unto this day. |
