 9:1 ¶ And ´Élîšä` אֱלִישָׁע° the prophet° called°° one° of the children°° of the prophets,° and said°° unto him, Gird up°° thy loins,° and take°° this° box° of oil° in thine hand,° and go°°° to Rämôŧ Gil`äđ רָמוֹת־גִּלעָד:°°

 9:1 ¶ And Elisha the prophet called one of the children of the prophets, and said unto him, Gird up thy loins, and take this box of oil in thine hand, and go to Ramoth-Gilad:

 9:2 And when thou comest°° thither,° look out°° there° Yëhû´ יֵהוּא° the son° of Yæhôšäfäţ יְהוֹשָׁפָט° the son° of Nimšî נִמשִׁי,° and go in,°° and make him arise up°° from among°° his brethren,° and carry°° him to an inner° chamber;°

 9:2 And when thou comest thither, look out there Yehu the son of Yehoshafat the son of Nimshi, and go in, and make him arise up from among his brethren, and carry him to an inner chamber;

 9:3 Then take°° the box° of oil,° and pour°° [it] on° his head,° and say,°° Thus° saith°° Yähwè יָהוֶה,° I have anointed°° thee king° over° Yiŝrä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל.° Then open°° the door,° and flee,°° and tarry°° not.°

 9:3 Then take the box of oil, and pour [it] on his head, and say, Thus saith Yahweh, I have anointed thee king over Yisrael. Then open the door, and flee, and tarry not.

 9:4 ¶ So the young man,° [even] the young man° the prophet,° went°°° to Rämôŧ Gil`äđ רָמוֹת־גִּלעָד.°°

 9:5 And when he came,°° behold,° the captains° of the host° [were] sitting;°° and he said,°° I have an errand° to° thee, O captain.° And Yëhû´ יֵהוּא° said,°° Unto° which° of all°° us? And he said,°° To° thee, O captain.°

 9:5 And when he came, behold, the captains of the host [were] sitting; and he said, I have an errand to thee, O captain. And Yehu said, Unto which of all us? And he said, To thee, O captain.

 9:6 And he arose,°° and went°° into the house;° and he poured°° the oil° on° his head,° and said°° unto him, Thus° saith°° Yähwè יָהוֶה° ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים° of Yiŝrä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,° I have anointed°° thee king° over° the people° of Yähwè יָהוֶה,° [even] over° Yiŝrä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל.°

 9:6 And he arose, and went into the house; and he poured the oil on his head, and said unto him, Thus saith Yahweh Elohim of Yisrael, I have anointed thee king over the people of Yahweh, [even] over Yisrael.

 9:7 And thou shalt smite°°° the house° of ´Aç´äv אַחאָב° thy ´áđôn אֲדוֹן,° that I may avenge°° the blood° of my servants° the prophets,° and the blood° of all° the servants° of Yähwè יָהוֶה,° at the hand°° of ´Îzevel אִיזֶבֶל.°

 9:7 And thou shalt smite the house of Achav thy adon, that I may avenge the blood of my servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of Yahweh, at the hand of Izevel.

 9:8 For the whole° house° of ´Aç´äv אַחאָב° shall perish:°° and I will cut off°° from ´Aç´äv אַחאָב° him that pisseth°° against the wall,° and him that is shut up°° and left°° in Yiŝrä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל:°

 9:8 For the whole house of Achav shall perish: and I will cut off from Achav him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Yisrael:

 9:9 And I will make°°° the house° of ´Aç´äv אַחאָב° like the house° of Yorov`äm יָרָבעָם° the son° of Næväţ נְבָט,° and like the house° of Ba`šä´ בַּעשָׁא° the son° of ´Áçiyyà אֲחִיָּה:°

 9:9 And I will make the house of Achav like the house of Yorovam the son of Nevat, and like the house of Basha the son of Achiyyah:

 9:10 And the dogs° shall eat°° ´Îzevel אִיזֶבֶל° in the portion° of Yizræ`e´l יִזרְעֶאל,° and [there shall be] none° to bury°° [her]. And he opened°° the door,° and fled.°°

 9:10 And the dogs shall eat Izevel in the portion of Yizreel, and [there shall be] none to bury [her]. And he opened the door, and fled.

 9:11 ¶ Then Yëhû´ יֵהוּא° came forth°° to° the servants° of his ´áđôn אֲדוֹן:° and [one] said°° unto him, [Is] all well?° wherefore° came°° this° mad°° [fellow] to° thee? And he said°° unto° them, Ye° know°° the man,° and° his communication.°

 9:11 ¶ Then Yehu came forth to the servants of his adon: and [one] said unto him, [Is] all well? wherefore came this mad [fellow] to thee? And he said unto them, Ye know the man, and his communication.

 9:12 And they said,°° [It is] false;° tell°° us now.° And he said,°° Thus° and thus° spake°° he to° me, saying,°° Thus° saith°° Yähwè יָהוֶה,° I have anointed°° thee king° over° Yiŝrä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל.°

 9:12 And they said, [It is] false; tell us now. And he said, Thus and thus spake he to me, saying, Thus saith Yahweh, I have anointed thee king over Yisrael.

 9:13 Then they hasted,°° and took°° every man° his garment,° and put°° [it] under° him on° the top° of the stairs,° and blew°° with trumpets,° saying,°° Yëhû´ יֵהוּא° is king.°°

 9:13 Then they hasted, and took every man his garment, and put [it] under him on the top of the stairs, and blew with trumpets, saying, Yehu is king.

 9:14 So Yëhû´ יֵהוּא° the son° of Yæhôšäfäţ יְהוֹשָׁפָט° the son° of Nimšî נִמשִׁי° conspired°° against° Yôräm יוֹרָם.° (Now Yôräm יוֹרָם° had° kept°° Rämôŧ Gil`äđ רָמוֹת־גִּלעָד,°° he° and all° Yiŝrä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,° because°° of Çázä´ël חֲזָאֵל° king° of ´Áräm אֲרָם.°

 9:14 So Yehu the son of Yehoshafat the son of Nimshi conspired against Yoram. (Now Yoram had kept Ramoth-Gilad, he and all Yisrael, because of Chazael king of Aram.

 9:15 But king° Yôräm יוֹרָם° was returned°° to be healed°° in Yizræ`e´l יִזרְעֶאל° of° the wounds° which° the ´Árammîm אֲרַמִּים° had given°° him, when he fought°° with° Çázä´ël חֲזָאֵל° king° of ´Áräm אֲרָם.)° And Yëhû´ יֵהוּא° said,°° If° it be° your minds,° [then] let none° go forth°° [nor] escape° out of° the city° to go°°° to tell°° [it] in Yizræ`e´l יִזרְעֶאל.°

 9:15 But king Yoram was returned to be healed in Yizreel of the wounds which the Arammim had given him, when he fought with Chazael king of Aram.) And Yehu said, If it be your minds, [then] let none go forth [nor] escape out of the city to go to tell [it] in Yizreel.

 9:16 So Yëhû´ יֵהוּא° rode in a chariot,°° and went°°° to Yizræ`e´l יִזרְעֶאל;° for° Yôräm יוֹרָם° lay°° there.° And ´Áçazyà אֲחַזיָה° king° of Yæhûđà יְהוּדָה° was come down°° to see°°° Yôräm יוֹרָם.°

 9:16 So Yehu rode in a chariot, and went to Yizreel; for Yoram lay there. And Achazyah king of Yehudah was come down to see Yoram.

 9:17 And there stood°° a watchman°° on° the tower° in Yizræ`e´l יִזרְעֶאל,° and he spied°°° the company° of Yëhû´ יֵהוּא° as he came,°° and said,°° I° see°° a company.° And Yôräm יוֹרָם° said,°° Take°° an horseman,° and send°° to meet°°° them, and let him say,°° [Is it] peace?°

 9:17 And there stood a watchman on the tower in Yizreel, and he spied the company of Yehu as he came, and said, I see a company. And Yoram said, Take an horseman, and send to meet them, and let him say, [Is it] peace?

 9:18 So there went°°° one on horseback°°° to meet°°° him, and said,°° Thus° saith°° the king,° [Is it] peace?° And Yëhû´ יֵהוּא° said,°° What° hast thou to do with peace?° turn°° thee behind°° me. And the watchman°° told,°° saying,°° The messenger° came°° to° them,° but he cometh not again.°°°

 9:18 So there went one on horseback to meet him, and said, Thus saith the king, [Is it] peace? And Yehu said, What hast thou to do with peace? turn thee behind me. And the watchman told, saying, The messenger came to them, but he cometh not again.

 9:19 Then he sent out°° a second° on horseback,°°° which came°° to° them, and said,°° Thus° saith°° the king,° [Is it] peace?° And Yëhû´ יֵהוּא° answered,°° What° hast thou to do with peace?° turn°° thee behind°° me.

 9:19 Then he sent out a second on horseback, which came to them, and said, Thus saith the king, [Is it] peace? And Yehu answered, What hast thou to do with peace? turn thee behind me.

 9:20 And the watchman°° told,°° saying,°° He came°° even° unto° them, and cometh not again:°°° and the driving° [is] like the driving° of Yëhû´ יֵהוּא° the son° of Nimšî נִמשִׁי;° for° he driveth°° furiously.°

 9:20 And the watchman told, saying, He came even unto them, and cometh not again: and the driving [is] like the driving of Yehu the son of Nimshi; for he driveth furiously.

 9:21 And Yôräm יוֹרָם° said,°° Make ready.°° And his chariot° was made ready.°° And Yôräm יוֹרָם° king° of Yiŝrä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל° and ´Áçazyà אֲחַזיָה° king° of Yæhûđà יְהוּדָה° went out,°° each° in his chariot,° and they went out°° against°°° Yëhû´ יֵהוּא,° and met°° him in the portion° of Nävôŧ נָבוֹת° the Yizræ`ë´lî יִזרְעֵאלִי.°

 9:21 And Yoram said, Make ready. And his chariot was made ready. And Yoram king of Yisrael and Achazyah king of Yehudah went out, each in his chariot, and they went out against Yehu, and met him in the portion of Navoth the Yizreeli.

 9:22 And it came to pass,° when Yôräm יוֹרָם° saw°°° Yëhû´ יֵהוּא,° that he said,°° [Is it] peace,° Yëhû´ יֵהוּא?° And he answered,°° What° peace,° so long as° the whoredoms° of thy mother° ´Îzevel אִיזֶבֶל° and her witchcrafts° [are so] many?°

 9:22 And it came to pass, when Yoram saw Yehu, that he said, [Is it] peace, Yehu? And he answered, What peace, so long as the whoredoms of thy mother Izevel and her witchcrafts [are so] many?

 9:23 And Yôräm יוֹרָם° turned°° his hands,° and fled,°° and said°° to° ´Áçazyà אֲחַזיָה,° [There is] treachery,° O ´Áçazyà אֲחַזיָה.°

 9:23 And Yoram turned his hands, and fled, and said to Achazyah, [There is] treachery, O Achazyah.

 9:24 And Yëhû´ יֵהוּא° drew a bow° with his full°° strength,° and smote°°° Yæhôräm יְהוֹרָם° between° his arms,° and the arrow° went out°° at his heart,°° and he sunk down°° in his chariot.°

 9:24 And Yehu drew a bow with his full strength, and smote Yehoram between his arms, and the arrow went out at his heart, and he sunk down in his chariot.

 9:25 Then said°° [Yëhû´ יֵהוּא] to° Biđkar בִּדקַר° his captain,° Take up,°° [and] cast°° him in the portion° of the field° of Nävôŧ נָבוֹת° the Yizræ`ë´lî יִזרְעֵאלִי:° for° remember°° how that, when I° and thou°° rode°° together° after° ´Aç´äv אַחאָב° his father,° Yähwè יָהוֶה° laid°°° this° burden° upon° him;

 9:25 Then said [Yehu] to Bidqar his captain, Take up, [and] cast him in the portion of the field of Navoth the Yizreeli: for remember how that, when I and thou rode together after Achav his father, Yahweh laid this burden upon him;

 9:26 Surely°° I have seen°° yesterday°° the blood° of Nävôŧ נָבוֹת,° and the blood° of his sons,° saith°° Yähwè יָהוֶה;° and I will requite°° thee in this° plat,° saith°° Yähwè יָהוֶה.° Now° therefore take°° [and] cast°° him into the plat° [of ground], according to the word° of Yähwè יָהוֶה.°

 9:26 Surely I have seen yesterday the blood of Navoth, and the blood of his sons, saith Yahweh; and I will requite thee in this plat, saith Yahweh. Now therefore take [and] cast him into the plat [of ground], according to the word of Yahweh.

 9:27 ¶ But when ´Áçazyà אֲחַזיָה° the king° of Yæhûđà יְהוּדָה° saw°° [this], he fled°° by the way° of the garden° house.° And Yëhû´ יֵהוּא° followed°° after° him, and said,°° Smite°° him also° in° the chariot.° [And they did so] at the going up° to Gûr גּוּר,° which° [is] by° Yivlæ`äm יִבלְעָם.° And he fled°° to Mæqiddô מְגִדּוֹ,° and died°° there.°

 9:27 ¶ But when Achazyah the king of Yehudah saw [this], he fled by the way of the garden house. And Yehu followed after him, and said, Smite him also in the chariot. [And they did so] at the going up to Gur, which [is] by Yivleam. And he fled to Megiddo, and died there.

 9:28 And his servants° carried°° him in a chariot°° to Yærûšälaim יְרוּשָׁלִַם,° and buried°° him in his sepulchre° with° his fathers° in the city° of Däwiđ דָּוִד.°

 9:28 And his servants carried him in a chariot to Yerushalaim, and buried him in his sepulchre with his fathers in the city of Dawid.

 9:29 And in the eleventh°°° year° of Yôräm יוֹרָם° the son° of ´Aç´äv אַחאָב° began ´Áçazyà אֲחַזיָה° to reign°° over° Yæhûđà יְהוּדָה.°

 9:29 And in the eleventh year of Yoram the son of Achav began Achazyah to reign over Yehudah.

 9:30 ¶ And when Yëhû´ יֵהוּא° was come°° to Yizræ`e´l יִזרְעֶאל,° ´Îzevel אִיזֶבֶל° heard°° [of it]; and she painted°°° her face,° and tired°°° her head,° and looked out°° at° a window.°

 9:30 ¶ And when Yehu was come to Yizreel, Izevel heard [of it]; and she painted her face, and tired her head, and looked out at a window.

 9:31 And as Yëhû´ יֵהוּא° entered in°° at the gate,° she said,°° [Had] Zimrî זִמרִי° peace,° who slew°° his ´áđôn אֲדוֹן?°

 9:31 And as Yehu entered in at the gate, she said, [Had] Zimri peace, who slew his adon?

 9:32 And he lifted up°° his face° to° the window,° and said,°° Who° [is] on my side?° who?° And there looked out°° to° him two° [or] three° eunuchs.°

 9:32 And he lifted up his face to the window, and said, Who [is] on my side? who? And there looked out to him two [or] three eunuchs.

 9:33 And he said,°° Throw her down.°° So they threw her down:°° and [some] of her blood°° was sprinkled°° on° the wall,° and on° the horses:° and he trode her under foot.°°

 9:33 And he said, Throw her down. So they threw her down: and [some] of her blood was sprinkled on the wall, and on the horses: and he trode her under foot.

 9:34 And when he was come in,°° he did eat°° and drink,°° and said,°° Go,°° see° now°° this° cursed°° [woman], and bury°° her: for° she° [is] a king's° daughter.°

 9:34 And when he was come in, he did eat and drink, and said, Go, see now this cursed [woman], and bury her: for she [is] a king's daughter.

 9:35 And they went°°° to bury°° her: but they found°° no more° of her than°° the skull,° and the feet,° and the palms° of [her] hands.°

 9:36 Wherefore they came again,°° and told°° him. And he said,°° This° [is] the word° of Yähwè יָהוֶה,° which° he spake°° by° his servant° ´Ëliyyà אֵלִיָּה° the Tišbî תִּשׁבִּי,° saying,°° In the portion° of Yizræ`e´l יִזרְעֶאל° shall dogs° eat°°° the flesh° of ´Îzevel אִיזֶבֶל:°

 9:36 Wherefore they came again, and told him. And he said, This [is] the word of Yahweh, which he spake by his servant Eliyyah the Tishbi, saying, In the portion of Yizreel shall dogs eat the flesh of Izevel:

 9:37 And the carcase° of ´Îzevel אִיזֶבֶל° shall be° as dung° upon° the face° of the field° in the portion° of Yizræ`e´l יִזרְעֶאל;° [so] that° they shall not° say,°° This° [is] ´Îzevel אִיזֶבֶל.°

 9:37 And the carcase of Izevel shall be as dung upon the face of the field in the portion of Yizreel; [so] that they shall not say, This [is] Izevel.
