In the second year of Yoash son of Yehoachaz king of Yisrael reigned Amatzyah the son of Yoash king of Yehudah. |

He wasº
twentyº
and fiveº
yearsº
oldº
when he began to reign,ºº
and reignedºº
twentyº
and nineº
yearsº
in
Yærûšälaim
יְרוּשָׁלִַם.º
And his mother'sº
nameº
[was]
Yæhô`addän
יְהוֹעַדָּןº
ofº
Yærûšälaim
יְרוּשָׁלִַם.º |

14:2
He was twenty and five years old when he began to reign, and reigned twenty and nine years in Yerushalaim. And his mother's name [was] Yehoaddan of Yerushalaim. |

And he didºº
[that which was] rightº
in the sightº

yetº
notº
like
Däwið
דָּוִדº
his father:º
he didºº
according to all thingsº
asº

his fatherº

And he did [that which was] right in the sight of Yahweh, yet not like Dawid his father: he did according to all things as Yoash his father did. |

Howbeitº
the high placesº
were notº
taken away:ºº
as yetº
the peopleº
did sacrificeºº
and burnt incenseºº
on the high places.º |

Howbeit the high places were not taken away: as yet the people did sacrifice and burnt incense on the high places. |

14:5 ¶
And it came to pass,º
as soon asº
the kingdomº
was confirmedºº
in his hand,º
that he slewººº
his servantsº
which had slainººº
the kingº
his father.º |

And it came to pass, as soon as the kingdom was confirmed in his hand, that he slew his servants which had slain the king his father. |

But the childrenº
of the murderersºº
he slewºº
not:º
according unto that which is writtenºº
in the bookº
of the lawº

whereinº

יָהוֶהº
commanded,ºº
saying,ºº
The fathersº
shall notº
be put to deathºº

the children,º

the fathers;º

for his own sin.º |

But the children of the murderers he slew not: according unto that which is written in the book of the law of Mosheh, wherein Yahweh commanded, saying, The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, nor the children be put to death for the fathers; but every man shall be put to death for his own sin. |

Then Amatzyah sent messengers to Yehoash, the son of Yehoachaz son of Yehu, king of Yisrael, saying, Come, let us look one another in the face. |

thy daughterº
to my sonº
to wife:º
and there passedºº
byº
a wildº
beastº
thatº
[was] in
Lævänôn
לְבָנוֹן,º
and trode downººº
the thistle.º |

14:9
And Yehoash the king of Yisrael sent to Amatzyah king of Yehudah, saying, The thistle that [was] in Levanon sent to the cedar that [was] in Levanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son to wife: and there passed by a wild beast that [was] in Levanon, and trode down the thistle. |
|
14:10
Thou hast indeedºº

and thine heartº
hath lifted thee up:ºº

[of this], and tarryºº
at home:º
for whyº
shouldest thou meddleºº
to [thy] hurt,º
that thou shouldest fall,ºº

Thou hast indeed smitten Edom, and thine heart hath lifted thee up: glory [of this], and tarry at home: for why shouldest thou meddle to [thy] hurt, that thou shouldest fall, [even] thou, and Yehudah with thee? |

[belongeth] to

But Amatzyah would not hear. Therefore Yehoash king of Yisrael went up; and he and Amatzyah king of Yehudah looked one another in the face at Beth-Shemesh, which [belongeth] to Yehudah. |

was put to the worseºº
beforeº

יִשׂרָאֵל;º
and they fledºº
every manº
to their tents.º |

And Yehudah was put to the worse before Yisrael; and they fled every man to their tents. |

And Yehoash king of Yisrael took Amatzyah king of Yehudah, the son of Yehoash the son of Achazyah, at Beth-Shemesh, and came to Yerushalaim, and brake down the wall of Yerushalaim from the gate of Efrayim unto the corner gate, four hundred cubits. |

And he tookººº

and silver,º
and allº
the vesselsº
that were foundºº
in the houseº
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה,º
and in the treasuresº
of the king'sº
house,º
and hostages,ºº

And he took all the gold and silver, and all the vessels that were found in the house of Yahweh, and in the treasures of the king's house, and hostages, and returned to Shomron. |

Now the rest of the acts of Yehoash which he did, and his might, and how he fought with Amatzyah king of Yehudah, [are] they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Yisrael? |

his fathers,º
and was buriedºº
in

in his stead.º |

And Yehoash slept with his fathers, and was buried in Shomron with the kings of Yisrael; and Yorovam his son reigned in his stead. |

And Amatzyah the son of Yoash king of Yehudah lived after the death of Yehoash son of Yehoachaz king of Yisrael fifteen years. |

a conspiracyº
againstº

Yærûšälaim
יְרוּשָׁלִַם:º
and he fledºº

לָכִישׁ;º
but they sentºº
afterº
him to
Lä¢îš
לָכִישׁ,º
and slewºº
him there.º |

Now they made a conspiracy against him in Yerushalaim: and he fled to Lakhish; but they sent after him to Lakhish, and slew him there. |

14:20
And they broughtºº
him onº
horses:º
and he was buriedºº
at
Yærûšälaim
יְרוּשָׁלִַםº
withº
his fathersº
in the cityº
of
Däwið
דָּוִד.º |

14:20
And they brought him on horses: and he was buried at Yerushalaim with his fathers in the city of Dawid. |

14:21 ¶
And allº
the peopleº
of
Yæhûðà
יְהוּדָהº
tookººº
`Ázaryà
עֲזַריָה,º
whichº
[was] sixteenºº
yearsº
old,º
and made him kingººº
instead ofº
his fatherº
´Ámaxyà
אֲמַציָה.º |

14:21 ¶
And all the people of Yehudah took Azaryah, which [was] sixteen years old, and made him king instead of his father Amatzyah. |

and restoredºº

afterº
thatº
the kingº
sleptºº
withº
his fathers.º |

14:22
He built Elath, and restored it to Yehudah, after that the king slept with his fathers. |

14:23 ¶
In the fifteenthººº

In the fifteenth year of Amatzyah the son of Yoash king of Yehudah Yorovam the son of Yoash king of Yisrael began to reign in Shomron, [and reigned] forty and one years. |

in the sightº

he departedºº

from allºº
the sinsº

יָרָבעָםº
the sonº

And he did [that which was] evil in the sight of Yahweh: he departed not from all the sins of Yorovam the son of Nevat, who made Yisrael to sin. |

He restored the coast of Yisrael from the entering of Chamath unto the sea of the plain, according to the word of Yahweh Elohim of Yisrael, which he spake by the hand of his servant Yonah, the son of Amittay, the prophet, which [was] of Gath-Chefer. |

For Yahweh saw the affliction of Yisrael, [that it was] very bitter: for [there was] not any shut up, nor any left, nor any helper for Yisrael. |

heaven:º
but he savedºº
them by the handº

And Yahweh said not that he would blot out the name of Yisrael from under heaven: but he saved them by the hand of Yorovam the son of Yoash. |
