 1:1 ¶ The wordº of Yähwè יָהוֶהº thatº cameº untoº Hôšëå` הוֹשֵׁעַ,º the sonº of Bæ´ërî בְּאֵרִי,º in the daysº of `Uzziyyà עֻזִּיָּה,º Yô±äm יוֹתָם,º ´Äçäz אָחָז,º [and] Çizkiyyà חִזקִיָּה,º kingsº of Yæhûðà יְהוּדָה,º and in the daysº of Yorov`äm יָרָבעָםº the sonº of Yô´äš יוֹאָשׁ,º kingº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל.º

 1:1 ¶ The word of Yahweh that came unto Hoshea, the son of Beeri, in the days of Uzziyyah, Yotham, Achaz, [and] Chizqiyyah, kings of Yehudah, and in the days of Yorovam the son of Yoash, king of Yisrael.

 1:2 The beginningº of the wordºº of Yähwè יָהוֶהº by Hôšëå` הוֹשֵׁעַ.º And Yähwè יָהוֶהº saidºº toº Hôšëå` הוֹשֵׁעַ,º Go,ººº takeºº unto thee a wifeº of whoredomsº and childrenº of whoredoms:º forº the landº hath committed greatºº whoredom,ºº [departing] fromºº Yähwè יָהוֶה.º

 1:2 The beginning of the word of Yahweh by Hoshea. And Yahweh said to Hoshea, Go, take unto thee a wife of whoredoms and children of whoredoms: for the land hath committed great whoredom, [departing] from Yahweh.

 1:3 So he wentººº and tookººº Gömer גֹּמֶרº the daughterº of Divläyim דִּבלָיִם;º which conceived,ºº and bareºº him a son.º

 1:3 So he went and took Gomer the daughter of Divlayim; which conceived, and bare him a son.

 1:4 And Yähwè יָהוֶהº saidºº untoº him, Callºº his nameº Yizræ`e´l יִזרְעֶאל;º forº yetº a littleº [while], and I will avengeººº the bloodº of Yizræ`e´l יִזרְעֶאלº uponº the houseº of Yëhû´ יֵהוּא,º and will cause to ceaseºº the kingdomº of the houseº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל.º

 1:4 And Yahweh said unto him, Call his name Yizreel; for yet a little [while], and I will avenge the blood of Yizreel upon the house of Yehu, and will cause to cease the kingdom of the house of Yisrael.

 1:5 And it shall come to passº at thatº day,º that I will breakººº the bowº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº in the valleyº of Yizræ`e´l יִזרְעֶאל.º

 1:5 And it shall come to pass at that day, that I will break the bow of Yisrael in the valley of Yizreel.

 1:6 ¶ And she conceivedº again,ººº and bareºº a daughter.º And [Yähwè יָהוֶה] saidºº unto him, Callºº her nameº Lö´ Ruçämà לֹא־רֻחָמָה:ºº forº I will noº moreººº have mercyºº uponºº the houseº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל;º butº I will utterlyºº take them away.ºº

 1:6 ¶ And she conceived again, and bare a daughter. And [Yahweh] said unto him, Call her name Lo-Ruchamah: for I will no more have mercy upon the house of Yisrael; but I will utterly take them away.

 1:7 But I will have mercyºº uponº the houseº of Yæhûðà יְהוּדָה,º and will saveºº them by Yähwè יָהוֶהº their ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים,º and will notº saveºº them by bow,º nor by sword,º nor by battle,º by horses,º nor by horsemen.º

 1:7 But I will have mercy upon the house of Yehudah, and will save them by Yahweh their Elohim, and will not save them by bow, nor by sword, nor by battle, by horses, nor by horsemen.

 1:8 ¶ Now when she had weanedººº Lö´ Ruçämà לֹא־רֻחָמָה,ºº she conceived,ºº and bareºº a son.º

 1:8 ¶ Now when she had weaned Lo-Ruchamah, she conceived, and bare a son.

 1:9 Then saidºº [Yähwè יָהוֶה], Callºº his nameº Lö´ `Ammî לֹא־עַמִּי:º forº yeº [are] notº my people,º and Iº will notº beº your [´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים].

 1:9 Then said [Yahweh], Call his name Lo-Ammi: for ye [are] not my people, and I will not be your [Elohim].

 1:10 ¶ Yet the numberº of the childrenº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº shall beº as the sandº of the sea,º whichº cannotº be measuredºº norº numbered;ºº and it shall come to pass,º [that] in the placeº whereº it was saidºº unto them, Yeº [are] notº my people,º [there] it shall be saidºº unto them, [Ye are] the sonsº of the livingº ´Ël אֵל.º

 1:10 ¶ Yet the number of the children of Yisrael shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to pass, [that] in the place where it was said unto them, Ye [are] not my people, [there] it shall be said unto them, [Ye are] the sons of the living El.

 1:11 Then shall the childrenº of Yæhûðà יְהוּדָהº and the childrenº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº be gatheredºº together,ºº and appointºº themselves oneº head,º and they shall come upºº out ofº the land:º forº greatº [shall be] the dayº of Yizræ`e´l יִזרְעֶאל.º

 1:11 Then shall the children of Yehudah and the children of Yisrael be gathered together, and appoint themselves one head, and they shall come up out of the land: for great [shall be] the day of Yizreel.
