becauseº
[there is] noº
truth,º
norº
mercy,º
norº
knowledgeº
of
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִיםº
in the land.º |

4:1 ¶
Hear the word of Yahweh, ye children of Yisrael: for Yahweh hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because [there is] no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of Elohim in the land. |

By swearing,ºº
and lying,ºº
and killing,ºº
and stealing,ºº
and committing adultery,ºº
they break out,ºº
and bloodº
touchethºº
blood.º |

By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood toucheth blood. |

4:3
Thereforeºº
shall the landº
mourn,ºº
and every oneº
that dwellethºº
therein shall languish,ºº
with the beastsº
of the field,º
and with the fowlsº
of heaven;º
yea, the fishesº
of the seaº
alsoº
shall be taken away.ºº |

Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven; yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away. |

Yetº
let noº
manº
strive,ºº
norº
reproveºº
another:º
for thy peopleº
[are] as they that striveºº
with the priest.º |

Yet let no man strive, nor reprove another: for thy people [are] as they that strive with the priest. |

4:5
Therefore shalt thou fallºº
in the day,º
and the prophetº
alsoº
shall fallºº
withº
thee in the night,º
and I will destroyºº
thy mother.º |

Therefore shalt thou fall in the day, and the prophet also shall fall with thee in the night, and I will destroy thy mother. |

4:6 ¶
My peopleº
are destroyedºº
for lackºº
of knowledge:º
becauseº
thouº
hast rejectedºº
knowledge,º
I will also rejectºº
thee, that thou shalt be no priestººº
to me: seeing thou hast forgottenºº
the lawº
of thy
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים,º
Iº
will alsoº
forgetºº
thy children.º |

4:6 ¶
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy Elohim, I will also forget thy children. |

As they were increased,ºº
soº
they sinnedºº
against me: [therefore] will I changeºº
their gloryº
into shame.º |

As they were increased, so they sinned against me: [therefore] will I change their glory into shame. |

4:8
They eat upºº
the sinº
of my people,º
and they setºº
their heartº
onº
their iniquity.º |

They eat up the sin of my people, and they set their heart on their iniquity. |

And there shall be,º
like people,º
like priest:º
and I will punishººº
them for their ways,º
and rewardºº
them their doings.º |

And there shall be, like people, like priest: and I will punish them for their ways, and reward them their doings. |
|
4:10
For they shall eat,ºº
and notº
have enough:ºº
they shall commit whoredom,ºº
and shall notº
increase:ºº
becauseº
they have left offºº
to take heedººº
to
Yähwè
יָהוֶה.º |

4:10
For they shall eat, and not have enough: they shall commit whoredom, and shall not increase: because they have left off to take heed to Yahweh. |

4:11
Whoredomº
and wineº
and new wineº
take awayºº
the heart.º |
|
4:11
Whoredom and wine and new wine take away the heart. |

4:12 ¶
My peopleº
askºº
counselº
at their stocks,º
and their staffº
declarethºº
unto them: forº
the spiritº
of whoredomsº
hath caused [them] to err,ºº
and they have gone a whoringºº
from underºº
their
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים.º |

4:12 ¶
My people ask counsel at their stocks, and their staff declareth unto them: for the spirit of whoredoms hath caused [them] to err, and they have gone a whoring from under their Elohim. |

4:13
They sacrificeºº
uponº
the topsº
of the mountains,º
and burn incenseºº
uponº
the hills,º
underº
oaksº
and poplarsº
and elms,º
becauseº
the shadowº
thereof [is] good:º
thereforeºº
your daughtersº
shall commit whoredom,ºº
and your spousesº
shall commit adultery.ºº |

They sacrifice upon the tops of the mountains, and burn incense upon the hills, under oaks and poplars and elms, because the shadow thereof [is] good: therefore your daughters shall commit whoredom, and your spouses shall commit adultery. |

I will notº
punishººº
your daughtersº
whenº
they commit whoredom,ºº
nor your spousesº
whenº
they commit adultery:ºº
forº
themselvesº
are separatedºº
withº
whores,ºº
and they sacrificeºº
withº
harlots:º
therefore the peopleº
[that] doth notº
understandºº
shall fall.ºº |

4:14
I will not punish your daughters when they commit whoredom, nor your spouses when they commit adultery: for themselves are separated with whores, and they sacrifice with harlots: therefore the people [that] doth not understand shall fall. |

swear,ºº

יָהוֶהº
liveth.º |

Though thou, Yisrael, play the harlot, [yet] let not Yehudah offend; and come not ye unto Gilgal, neither go ye up to Beth-Awen, nor swear, Yahweh liveth. |

them as a lambº
in a large place.º |

For Yisrael slideth back as a backsliding heifer: now Yahweh will feed them as a lamb in a large place. |

אֶפרַיִםº
[is] joinedºº
to idols:º
let him alone.ººº |

Their drinkº
is sour:ºº
they have committed whoredomºº
continually:ºº
her rulersº
[with] shameº
do love,ºº

Their drink is sour: they have committed whoredom continually: her rulers [with] shame do love, Give ye. |

The windº
hath bound her upººº
in her wings,º
and they shall be ashamedºº
because of their sacrifices.ºº |
