 12:1 ¶ ´Efrayim אֶפרַיִםº feedethºº on wind,º and followethºº afterº the east wind:º he dailyºº increasethºº liesº and desolation;º and they do makeºº a covenantº withº the ´Aššûrîm אַשּׁוּרִים,º and oilº is carriedºº into Mixrayim מִצרַיִם.º

 12:1 ¶ Efrayim feedeth on wind, and followeth after the east wind: he daily increaseth lies and desolation; and they do make a covenant with the Ashshurim, and oil is carried into Mitzrayim.

 12:2 Yähwè יָהוֶהº hath also a controversyº withº Yæhûðà יְהוּדָה,º and will punishººº Ya`áköv יַעֲקֹבº according to his ways;º according to his doingsº will he recompenseºº him.

 12:2 Yahweh hath also a controversy with Yehudah, and will punish Yaaqov according to his ways; according to his doings will he recompense him.

 12:3 ¶ He took his brotherº by the heelºººº in the womb,º and by his strengthº he had powerºº withº ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים:º

 12:3 ¶ He took his brother by the heel in the womb, and by his strength he had power with Elohim:

 12:4 Yea, he had powerººº overº the angel,º and prevailed:ºº he wept,ºº and made supplicationºº unto him: he foundºº him [in] Bê± ´Ël בֵּית־אֵל,º and thereº he spakeºº withº us;

 12:4 Yea, he had power over the angel, and prevailed: he wept, and made supplication unto him: he found him [in] Beth-El, and there he spake with us;

 12:5 Even Yähwè יָהוֶהº ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº Xævä´ô± צְבָאוֹת;º Yähwè יָהוֶהº [is] his memorial.º

 12:6 Therefore turnºº thouº to thy ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים:º keepºº mercyº and judgment,º and waitºº onº thy ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº continually.º

 12:6 Therefore turn thou to thy Elohim: keep mercy and judgment, and wait on thy Elohim continually.

 12:7 ¶ [He is] a merchant,º the balancesº of deceitº [are] in his hand:º he lovethºº to oppress.ºº

 12:7 ¶ [He is] a merchant, the balances of deceit [are] in his hand: he loveth to oppress.

 12:8 And ´Efrayim אֶפרַיִםº said,ºº Yetº I am become rich,ºº I have found me outºº substance:º [in] allº my laboursº they shall findºº noneº iniquityº in me thatº [were] sin.º

 12:8 And Efrayim said, Yet I am become rich, I have found me out substance: [in] all my labours they shall find none iniquity in me that [were] sin.

 12:9 And Iº [that am] Yähwè יָהוֶהº thy ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº from the landºº of Mixrayim מִצרַיִםº will yetº make thee to dwellºº in tabernacles,º as in the daysº of the solemn feast.º

 12:9 And I [that am] Yahweh thy Elohim from the land of Mitzrayim will yet make thee to dwell in tabernacles, as in the days of the solemn feast.

 12:10 I have also spokenºº byº the prophets,º and Iº have multipliedºº visions,º and used similitudes,ºº by the ministryº of the prophets.º

 12:10 I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and used similitudes, by the ministry of the prophets.

 12:11 [Is there] iniquityº [in] Gil`äð גִּלעָד?º surelyº they areº vanity:º they sacrificeºº bullocksº in Gilgäl גִּלגָּל;º yea,º their altarsº [are] as heapsº inº the furrowsº of the fields.º

 12:11 [Is there] iniquity [in] Gilad? surely they are vanity: they sacrifice bullocks in Gilgal; yea, their altars [are] as heaps in the furrows of the fields.

 12:12 And Ya`áköv יַעֲקֹבº fledºº into the countryº of ´Áräm אֲרָם,º and Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº servedºº for a wife,º and for a wifeº he keptºº [sheep].

 12:12 And Yaaqov fled into the country of Aram, and Yisrael served for a wife, and for a wife he kept [sheep].

 12:13 And by a prophetº Yähwè יָהוֶהº broughtººº Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº out of Mixrayim מִצרַיִם,ºº and by a prophetº was he preserved.ºº

 12:13 And by a prophet Yahweh brought Yisrael out of Mitzrayim, and by a prophet was he preserved.

 12:14 ´Efrayim אֶפרַיִםº provoked [him] to angerºº most bitterly:º therefore shall he leaveºº his bloodº uponº him, and his reproachº shall his ´Áðönîm אֲדֹנִיםº returnºº unto him.

 12:14 Efrayim provoked [him] to anger most bitterly: therefore shall he leave his blood upon him, and his reproach shall his Adonim return unto him.
