17:1 ¶
There was also a lot for the tribe of Menashsheh; for he [was] the firstborn of Yosef; [to wit], for Makhir the firstborn of Menashsheh, the father of Gilad: because he was a man of war, therefore he had Gilad and Bashan. |

There wasº
also [a lot] for the restºº
of the childrenº
of
Mænaššè
מְנַשֶּׁהº
by their families;º
for the childrenº
of
´Ávî`ezer
אֲבִיעֶזֶר,º
and for the childrenº
of
Çëlek
חֵלֶק,º
and for the childrenº
of
´A$rî´ël
אַשׂרִיאֵל,º
and for the childrenº
of
Šæ¢em
שְׁכֶם,º
and for the childrenº
of
Çëfer
חֵפֶר,º
and for the childrenº
of
Šæmîðä`
שְׁמִידָע:º
theseº
[were] the maleº
childrenº
of
Mænaššè
מְנַשֶּׁהº
the sonº
of
Yôsëf
יוֹסֵףº
by their families.º |

There was also [a lot] for the rest of the children of Menashsheh by their families; for the children of Aviezer, and for the children of Cheleq, and for the children of Asriel, and for the children of Shekhem, and for the children of Chefer, and for the children of Shemida: these [were] the male children of Menashsheh the son of Yosef by their families. |

17:3 ¶
But Tzelofchad, the son of Chefer, the son of Gilad, the son of Makhir, the son of Menashsheh, had no sons, but daughters: and these [are] the names of his daughters, Machlah, and Noach, Choglah, Milkah, and Tirtzah. |

17:4
And they came nearºº

us an inheritanceº
amongº
our brethren.º
Therefore accordingº
to the commandmentº
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
he gaveºº
them an inheritanceº
amongº
the brethrenº
of their father.º |

And they came near before Elazar the priest, and before Yehoshua the son of Nun, and before the princes, saying, Yahweh commanded Mosheh to give us an inheritance among our brethren. Therefore according to the commandment of Yahweh he gave them an inheritance among the brethren of their father. |

And there fellºº

And there fell ten portions to Menashsheh, beside the land of Gilad and Bashan, which [were] on the other side Yarden; |

Becauseº
the daughtersº

Mænaššè
מְנַשֶּׁהº
hadºº
an inheritanceºº
amongº
his sons:º
and the restºº
of
Mænaššè's
מְנַשֶּׁהº
sonsº
hadº
the landº
of

Because the daughters of Menashsheh had an inheritance among his sons: and the rest of Menashsheh's sons had the land of Gilad. |

17:7 ¶
And the coastº

Mænaššè

wasº

אָשֵׁרºº
to
Mi¢mæ±ä±
מִכמְתָת,º
thatº
[lieth] beforeºº

שְׁכֶם;º
and the borderº
went alongºº
onº
the right handº
untoº
the inhabitantsºº
of
`Ên Tappûåç
עֵין־תַּפּוּחַ.º |

17:7 ¶
And the coast of Menashsheh was from Asher to Mikhmethath, that [lieth] before Shekhem; and the border went along on the right hand unto the inhabitants of En-Tappuach. |

[Now] Menashsheh had the land of Tappuach: but Tappuach on the border of Menashsheh [belonged] to the children of Efrayim; |

And the coastº
descendedºº
unto the riverº

citiesº

´Efrayim

[are] amongº
the citiesº
of
Mænaššè
מְנַשֶּׁה:º
the coastº
of
Mænaššè
מְנַשֶּׁהº
also [was] on the north sideºº
of the river,º
and the outgoingsº
of it wereº
at the sea:º |

And the coast descended unto the river Qanah, southward of the river: these cities of Efrayim [are] among the cities of Menashsheh: the coast of Menashsheh also [was] on the north side of the river, and the outgoings of it were at the sea: |

and the seaº

his border;º
and they met togetherºº

Southward [it was] Efrayim's, and northward [it was] Menashsheh's, and the sea is his border; and they met together in Asher on the north, and in Yissaskhar on the east. |

And Menashsheh had in Yissaskhar and in Asher Beth-Shean and her towns, and Yivleam and her towns, and the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, and the inhabitants of En-Dor and her towns, and the inhabitants of Tanakh and her towns, and the inhabitants of Megiddo and her towns, [even] three countries. |

Yet the childrenº
of
Mænaššè
מְנַשֶּׁהº
couldºº
notº
drive outºº
[the inhabitants of]º
thoseº
cities;º
but the
Cæna`ánîm
כְּנַעֲנִיםº
wouldºº
dwellºº
in thatº
land.º |

17:12
Yet the children of Menashsheh could not drive out [the inhabitants of] those cities; but the Kenaanim would dwell in that land. |
|
17:13
Yet it came to pass,º
whenº
the childrenº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵלº
were waxen strong,ºº
that they putººº
the
Cæna`ánîm
כְּנַעֲנִיםº
to tribute;º
but did notº
utterlyºº
drive them out.ºº |

17:13
Yet it came to pass, when the children of Yisrael were waxen strong, that they put the Kenaanim to tribute; but did not utterly drive them out. |

17:14
And the childrenº
of
Yôsëf
יוֹסֵףº
spakeºº
untoºº
Yæhôšuå`
יְהוֹשֻׁעַ,º
saying,ºº
Whyº
hast thou givenºº
me [but] oneº
lotº
and oneº
portionº
to inherit,º
seeing Iº
[am] a greatº
people,º
forasmuchº
asº
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
hath blessedºº
me hitherto?ººº |

17:14
And the children of Yosef spake unto Yehoshua, saying, Why hast thou given me [but] one lot and one portion to inherit, seeing I [am] a great people, forasmuch as Yahweh hath blessed me hitherto? |

[then] get thee upºº
to the woodº
[country], and cut downºº
for thyself thereº
in the landº

be too narrowºº
for thee. |

17:15
And Yehoshua answered them, If thou [be] a great people, [then] get thee up to the wood [country], and cut down for thyself there in the land of the Perizzim and of the giants, if mount Efrayim be too narrow for thee. |

17:16
And the childrenº

The hillº

enoughºº
for us: and allº
the
Cæna`ánîm
כְּנַעֲנִיםº
that dwellºº
in the landº
of the valleyº
have chariotsº
of iron,º

בֵּית־שְׁאָןº
and her towns,º
and [they] whoº
[are] of the valleyº

Yizræ`e´l
יִזרְעֶאל.º |

And the children of Yosef said, The hill is not enough for us: and all the Kenaanim that dwell in the land of the valley have chariots of iron, [both they] who [are] of Beth-Shean and her towns, and [they] who [are] of the valley of Yizreel. |

And Yehoshua spake unto the house of Yosef, [even] to Efrayim and to Menashsheh, saying, Thou [art] a great people, and hast great power: thou shalt not have one lot [only]: |

Butº
the mountainº

[is] a wood,º
and thou shalt cut it down:ºº
and the outgoingsº
of it shall beº
thine: forº
thou shalt drive outººº
the

כְּנַעֲנִים,º
thoughº
they have ironº
chariots,º
[and] thoughº
theyº
[be] strong.º |

But the mountain shall be thine; for it [is] a wood, and thou shalt cut it down: and the outgoings of it shall be thine: for thou shalt drive out the Kenaanim, though they have iron chariots, [and] though they [be] strong. |
