the lipsº
of a strange womanºº
dropºº
[as] an honeycomb,º
and her mouthº
[is] smootherº
than oil:ºº |

For the lips of a strange woman drop [as] an honeycomb, and her mouth [is] smoother than oil: |

But her endº
is bitterº
as wormwood,º
sharpº
as a twoedgedº
sword.º |

But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a twoedged sword. |

Her feetº
go downºº
to death;º
her stepsº
take holdºº
on hell.º |

Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell. |

thou shouldest ponderºº
the pathº
of life,º
her waysº
are moveable,ºº
[that] thou canst notº
knowºº
[them]. |

Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, [that] thou canst not know [them]. |

me nowº
therefore, O ye children,º
and departºº
notº
from the wordsºº
of my mouth.º |

Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth. |

Removeºº
thy wayº
farººº
fromºº
her, and come not nighºººº
the doorº
of her house:º |

Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house: |

Lestº
thou giveºº
thine honourº
unto others,º
and thy yearsº
unto the cruel:º |

Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel: |

Lestº
strangersºº
be filledºº
with thy wealth;º
and thy laboursº
[be] in the houseº
of a stranger;º |

Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours [be] in the house of a stranger; |

And thou mournºº
at the last,º
when thy fleshº
and thy bodyº
are consumed,ºº |

And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed, |

And say,ºº
Howº
have I hatedºº
instruction,º
and my heartº
despisedºº
reproof;º |

And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof; |

And have notº
obeyedºº
the voiceº
of my teachers,ºº
norº
inclinedºº
mine earº
to them that instructedºº
me! |

And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me! |

evilº
in the midstº
of the congregationº
and assembly.º |

I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly. |

Drinkºº
watersº
out of thine own cistern,ºº
and running watersºº
out ofºº
thine own well.º |

Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well. |

Let thy fountainsº
be dispersedºº
abroad,º
[and] riversº
of watersº
in the streets.º |

Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, [and] rivers of waters in the streets. |

Let them beº
onlyº
thine own, and notº
strangers'ºº
withº
thee. |

Let them be only thine own, and not strangers' with thee. |

Let thy fountainº
beº
blessed:ºº
and rejoiceºº
with the wifeºº
of thy youth.º |

Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth. |

[Let her be as] the lovingº
hindº
and pleasantº
roe;º
let her breastsº
satisfyºº
thee at allº
times;º
and be thou ravishedºº
alwaysº

[Let her be as] the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love. |

And whyº
wilt thou, my son,º
be ravishedºº
with a strange woman,ºº
and embraceºº
the bosomº
of a stranger?º |

5:20
And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger? |

Forº
the waysº
of manº
[are] beforeº
the eyesº
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה,º
and he ponderethºº
allº
his goings.º |
|
5:21
For the ways of man [are] before the eyes of Yahweh, and he pondereth all his goings. |
|
5:22 ¶
His own iniquitiesº
shall takeººº
the wickedº
himself, and he shall be holdenºº
with the cordsº
of his sins.º |
|
5:22 ¶
His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins. |
|
5:23
Heº
shall dieºº
withoutº
instruction;º
and in the greatnessº
of his follyº
he shall go astray.ºº |
|
5:23
He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray. |
