 1:1 ¶ The word of the Lord which came to Hosea{gr.Osee} the son of Beeri, in the days of Uzziah{gr.Ozias}, and Jotham{gr.Joatham}, and Ahaz{gr.Achaz}, and Hezekiah{gr.Ezekias}, kings of Judah{gr.Juda}, and in the days of Jeroboam son of Joash{gr.Joas}, king of Israel.

 1:1 ¶ The wordº of Yahwehº thatº cameº untoº Hosea,º the sonº of Beeri,º in the daysº of Uzziah,º Jotham,º Ahaz,º [and] Hezekiah,º kingsº of Judah,º and in the daysº of Jeroboamº the sonº of Joash,º kingº of Israel.º

 1:2 The beginning of the word of the Lord by Hosea{gr.Osee}. And the Lord said to Hosea{gr.Osee}, Go, take to thyself a wife of fornication, and children of fornication: for the land will surely go a-whoring in departing from the Lord.

 1:2 The beginningº of the wordºº of Yahwehº by Hosea.º And Yahwehº saidºº toº Hosea,º Go,ººº takeºº unto thee a wifeº of whoredomsº and childrenº of whoredoms:º forº the landº hath committed greatºº whoredom,ºº [departing] fromºº Yahweh.º

 1:3 So he went and took Gomer, daughter of Debelaim; and she conceived, and bore him a son.

 1:3 So he wentººº and tookººº Gomerº the daughterº of Diblaim;º which conceived,ºº and bareºº him a son.º

 1:4 And the Lord said to him, Call his name Jezreel{gr.Jezrael}; for yet a little [while], and I will avenge the blood of Jezreel{gr.Jezrael} on the house of Judah{gr.Juda}, and will make to cease the kingdom of the house of Israel.

 1:4 And Yahwehº saidºº untoº him, Callºº his nameº Jezreel;º forº yetº a littleº [while], and I will avengeººº the bloodº of Jezreelº uponº the houseº of Jehu,º and will cause to ceaseºº the kingdomº of the houseº of Israel.º

 1:5 And it shall be, in that day, [that] I will break the bow of Israel in the valley of Jezreel{gr.Jezrael}.

 1:5 And it shall come to passº at thatº day,º that I will breakººº the bowº of Israelº in the valleyº of Jezreel.º

 1:6 ¶ And she conceived again, and bore a daughter. And he said to him, Call her name, Unpitied: for I will no more have mercy on the house of Israel, but will surely set myself in array against them.

 1:6 ¶ And she conceivedº again,ººº and bareºº a daughter.º And [Yahweh] saidºº unto him, Callºº her nameº Loruhamah:ºº forº I will noº moreººº have mercyºº uponºº the houseº of Israel;º butº I will utterlyºº take them away.ºº

 1:7 But I will have mercy on the house of Judah{gr.Juda}, and will save them by the Lord their God, and will not save them with bow, nor with sword, nor by war, nor by horses, nor by horsemen.

 1:7 But I will have mercyºº uponº the houseº of Judah,º and will saveºº them by Yahwehº their Elohim,º and will notº saveºº them by bow,º nor by sword,º nor by battle,º by horses,º nor by horsemen.º

 1:8 ¶ And she weaned Unpitied; and she conceived again, and bore a son.

 1:8 ¶ Now when she had weanedººº Loruhamah,ºº she conceived,ºº and bareºº a son.º

 1:9 And he said, Call his name, Not my people: for ye are not my people, and I am not your [God].

 1:9 Then saidºº [Yahweh], Callºº his nameº Loammi:º forº yeº [are] notº my people,º and Iº will notº beº your [Elohim].

 1:10 ¶ Yet the number of the children of Israel was as the sand of the sea, which shall not be measured nor numbered: and it shall come to pass, [that] in the place where it was said to them, Ye are not my people, even they shall be called the sons of the living God.

 1:10 ¶ Yet the numberº of the childrenº of Israelº shall beº as the sandº of the sea,º whichº cannotº be measuredºº norº numbered;ºº and it shall come to pass,º [that] in the placeº whereº it was saidºº unto them, Yeº [are] notº my people,º [there] it shall be saidºº unto them, [Ye are] the sonsº of the livingº El.º

 1:11 And the children of Judah{gr.Juda} shall be gathered, and the children of Israel together, and shall appoint themselves one head, and shall come up out of the land: for great [shall be] the day of Jezreel{gr.Jezrael}.

 1:11 Then shall the childrenº of Judahº and the childrenº of Israelº be gatheredºº together,ºº and appointºº themselves oneº head,º and they shall come upºº out ofº the land:º forº greatº [shall be] the dayº of Jezreel.º
