 13:1 ¶
According to the word of Ephraim he adopted ordinances for himself in Israel; and he established them for Baal, and died. |
|
 13:1 ¶
When Ephraimº
spakeºº
trembling,º
heº
exaltedºº
himself in Israel;º
but when he offendedºº
in Baal,º
he died.ºº |
 13:2
And now they have sinned increasingly, and have made for themselves a molten image of their silver, according to the fashion of idols, the work of artificers accomplished for them: they say, Sacrifice men, for the calves have come to an end. |
|
 13:2
And nowº
they sinºº
more and more,ºº
and have madeºº
them molten imagesº
of their silver,ºº
[and] idolsº
according to their own understanding,º
allº
of it the workº
of the craftsmen:º
theyº
sayºº
of them, Let the menº
that sacrificeºº
kissºº
the calves.º |
 13:3
Therefore shall they be as a morning cloud, and as the early dew that passes away, as chaff blown away from the threshing-floor, and as a vapor from tears. |
|
 13:3
Thereforeº
they shall beº
as the morningº
cloud,º
and as the earlyºº
dewº
that passeth away,ºº
as the chaffº
[that] is driven with the whirlwindºº
out of the floor,ºº
and as the smokeº
out of the chimney.ºº |
 13:4
But I am the Lord thy God that establishes the heaven, and creates the earth, whose hands have framed the whole host of heaven: but I shewed them not to thee that thou shouldest go after them: and I brought thee up out of the land of Mizraim{gr.Egypt}, and thou shalt know no God but me; and there is no Saviour beside me. |
|
 13:4
Yet Iº
[am] Yahwehº
thy Elohimº
from the landºº
of Egypt,º
and thou shalt knowºº
noº
elohimº
butº
me:º
for [there is] noº
saviourºº
besideº
me.º |
 13:5 ¶
I tended thee as a shepherd in the wilderness, in an uninhabited land. |
|
 13:5 ¶
Iº
did knowºº
thee in the wilderness,º
in the landº
of great drought.º |
 13:6
According to their pastures, so they were completely filled; and their hearts were exalted; therefore they forgot me. |
|
 13:6
According to their pasture,º
so were they filled;ºº
they were filled,ºº
and their heartº
was exalted;ºº
thereforeºº
have they forgottenºº
me. |
 13:7
And I will be to them as a panther, and as a leopard. |
|
 13:7
Therefore I will beº
unto them asº
a lion:º
as a leopardº
byº
the wayº
will I observeºº
[them]: |
 13:8
I will meet them by the way of the Assyrians, as a she-bear excited, and I will rend the caul of their heart, and the lions' whelps of the thicket shall devour them there; the wild beasts of the field shall rend them in pieces. |
|
 13:8
I will meetºº
them as a bearº
[that is] bereavedº
[of her whelps], and will rendºº
the caulº
of their heart,º
and thereº
will I devourºº
them like a lion:º
the wildº
beastº
shall tearºº
them. |
 13:9 ¶
O Israel, who will aid [thee] in thy destruction? |
|
 13:9 ¶
O Israel,º
thou hast destroyedºº
thyself; butº
in me [is] thine help.º |
 13:10
Where is this thy king? let him even save thee in all thy cities: let him judge thee, of whom thou saidst, Give me a king and a prince. |
|
 13:10
I willº
beº
thy king:º
whereº
[is any other] that may saveºº
thee in allº
thy cities?º
and thy judgesºº
of whomº
thou saidst,ºº
Giveºº
me a kingº
and princes?º |
 13:11
And I gave thee a king in mine anger, and kept [him] back in my wrath. |
|
 13:11
I gaveºº
thee a kingº
in mine anger,º
and tookºº
[him] awayº
in my wrath.º |
 13:12
Ephraim [has framed] a conspiracy of unrighteousness, his sin is hidden. |
|
 13:12
The iniquityº
of Ephraimº
[is] bound up;ºº
his sinº
[is] hid.ºº |
 13:13
Pains as of a woman in travail shall come upon him: he is thy wise son, because he shall not stay in the destruction of [thy] children. |
|
 13:13
The sorrowsº
of a travailing womanºº
shall comeºº
upon him: heº
[is] an unwiseºº
son;º
forº
he should notº
stayºº
longº
in [the place of] the breaking forthº
of children.º |
 13:14
I will deliver [them] out of the power of the grave{gr.Hades}, and will redeem them from death: where is thy penalty, O death? O grave{gr.Hades}, where is thy sting? comfort is hidden from mine eyes. |
|
 13:14
I will ransomºº
them from the powerºº
of the grave;º
I will redeemºº
them from death:ºº
O death,º
I willº
beº
thy plagues;º
O grave,º
I willº
beº
thy destruction:º
repentanceº
shall be hidºº
from mine eyes.ºº |
 13:15 ¶
Forasmuch as he will cause a division among [his] brethren, the Lord shall bring upon him an east wind from the desert, and shall dry up his veins [and] quite drain his fountains: he shall dry up his land, and [spoil] all his precious vessels. |
|
 13:15 ¶
Thoughº
heº
be fruitfulºº
amongº
[his] brethren,º
an east windº
shall come,ºº
the windº
of Yahwehº
shall come upºº
from the wilderness,ºº
and his springº
shall become dry,ºº
and his fountainº
shall be dried up:ºº
heº
shall spoilºº
the treasureº
of allº
pleasantº
vessels.º |
 13:16
Samaria shall be utterly destroyed: for she has resisted her God; they shall fall by the sword, and their sucklings shall be dashed against the ground, and their women and child ripped up. |
|
 13:16
Samariaº
shall become desolate;ºº
forº
she hath rebelledºº
against her Elohim:º
they shall fallºº
by the sword:º
their infantsº
shall be dashed in pieces,ºº
and their women with childº
shall be ripped up.ºº |
