 10:1 ¶ Israel is a vine with goodly branches, her fruit is abundant: according to the multitude of her fruits she has multiplied [her] altars; according to the wealth of his land, he has set up pillars.

 10:1 ¶ Israelº [is] an emptyºº vine,º he bringeth forthºº fruitº unto himself: according to the multitudeº of his fruitº he hath increasedºº the altars;º according to the goodnessº of his landº they have made goodlyººº images.º

 10:2 They have divided their hearts; now shall they be utterly destroyed: he shall dig down their altars, their pillars shall mourn.

 10:2 Their heartº is divided;ºº nowº shall they be found faulty:ºº heº shall break downºº their altars,º he shall spoilºº their images.º

 10:3 Because now they shall say, We have no king, because we feared not the Lord:

 10:3 Forº nowº they shall say,ºº We have noº king,º becauseº we fearedºº notºº Yahweh;º whatº then should a kingº doºº to us?

 10:4 and what should a king do for us, speaking false professions [as his] words? he will make a covenant: judgment shall spring up as a weed on the soil of the field.

 10:4 They have spokenºº words,º swearingºº falselyº in makingºº a covenant:º thus judgmentº springeth upºº as hemlockº inº the furrowsº of the field.º

 10:5 The inhabitants of Samaria shall dwell near the calf of the house of On; for the people of it mourned for it: and as they provoked him, they shall rejoice at his glory, because he has departed from them.

 10:5 The inhabitantsº of Samariaº shall fearºº because of the calvesº of Bethaven:º forº the peopleº thereof shall mournºº overº it, and the priestsº thereof [that] rejoicedºº onº it, forº the gloryº thereof, becauseº it is departedºº fromº it.

 10:6 And having bound it for the Assyrians, they carried it away as presents to king Jarim: Ephraim shall receive a gift, and Israel shall be ashamed of his counsel.

 10:6 It shall be alsoº carriedºº unto Assyriaº [for] a presentº to kingº Jareb:º Ephraimº shall receiveºº shame,º and Israelº shall be ashamedºº of his own counsel.ºº

 10:7 Samaria has cast off her king as a twig on the surface of the water.

 10:7 [As for] Samaria,º her kingº is cut offºº as the foamº uponºº the water.º

 10:8 And the altars of On, the sins of Israel, shall be taken away: thorns and thistles shall come up on their altars; and they shall say to the mountains, Cover us; and to the hills, Fall on us.

 10:8 The high placesº also of Aven,º the sinº of Israel,º shall be destroyed:ºº the thornº and the thistleº shall come upºº onº their altars;º and they shall sayºº to the mountains,º Coverºº us; and to the hills,º Fallºº onº us.

 10:9 From the time the hills [existed] Israel has sinned: there they stood: war [waged] against the children of iniquity

 10:9 O Israel,º thou hast sinnedºº from the daysºº of Gibeah:º thereº they stood:ºº the battleº in Gibeahº againstº the childrenº of iniquityº did notº overtakeºº them.

 10:10 to chastise them shall not overtake them on the hill, the nations shall be gathered against them, when they are chastened for their two sins,

 10:10 [It is] in my desireº that I should chastiseºº them; and the peopleº shall be gatheredºº againstº them, when they shall bindºº themselves in their twoº furrows.º

 10:11 Ephraim is a heifer taught to love victory, but I will come upon the fairest part of her neck: I will mount Ephraim; I will pass over Judah{gr.Juda} in silence; Jacob shall prevail against him.

 10:11 And Ephraimº [is as] an heiferº [that is] taught,ºº [and] lovethºº to tread outºº [the corn]; but Iº passed overºº uponº her fairº neck:º I will make Ephraimº to ride;ºº Judahº shall plow,ºº [and] Jacobº shall break his clods.ºº

 10:12 Sow to yourselves for righteousness, gather in for the fruit of life: light ye for yourselves the light of knowledge; seek the Lord till the fruits of righteousness come upon you.

 10:12 Sowºº to yourselves in righteousness,º reapºº inº mercy;º break upºº your fallow ground:º for [it is] timeº to seekººº Yahweh,º tillº he comeºº and rainºº righteousnessº upon you.

 10:13 Wherefore have ye passed over ungodliness in silence, and reaped the sins of it? ye have eaten false fruit; for thou has trusted in thy sins, in the abundance of thy power.

 10:13 Ye have plowedºº wickedness,º ye have reapedºº iniquity;º ye have eatenºº the fruitº of lies:º becauseº thou didst trustºº in thy way,º in the multitudeº of thy mighty men.º

 10:14 Therefore shall destruction rise up among thy people, and all thy strong places shall be ruined: as a prince Solomon [departed] out of the house of Jeroboam, in the days of battle they dashed the mother to the ground upon the children,

 10:14 Therefore shall a tumultº ariseºº among thy people,º and allº thy fortressesº shall be spoiled,ºº as Shalmanº spoiledº Betharbelº in the dayº of battle:º the motherº was dashed in piecesºº uponº [her] children.º

 10:15 thus will I do to you, O house of Israel, because of the unrighteousness of your sins.

 10:15 Soº shall Bethelº doºº unto you becauseºº of your greatº wickedness:º in a morningº shall the kingº of Israelº utterlyºº be cut off.ºº
