 9:1 ¶ Rejoice not, O Israel, neither make merry, as [other] nations: for thou hast gone a-whoring from thy God; thou hast loved gifts upon every threshing-floor.

 9:1 ¶ Rejoiceºº not,º O Israel,º forº joy,º as [other] people:º forº thou hast gone a whoringºº fromºº thy Elohim,º thou hast lovedºº a rewardº uponº everyº cornfloor.ºº

 9:2 The threshing-floor and wine-press knew them not, and the wine disappointed them.

 9:2 The floorº and the winepressº shall notº feedºº them, and the new wineº shall failºº in her.

 9:3 They dwelt not in the Lord's land: Ephraim dwelt in Mizraim{gr.Egypt}, and they shall eat unclean things among the Assyrians.

 9:3 They shall notº dwellºº in Yahweh'sº land;º but Ephraimº shall returnºº to Egypt,º and they shall eatºº uncleanº [things] in Assyria.º

 9:4 They have not offered wine to the Lord, neither have their sacrifices been sweet to him, [but] as the bread of mourning to them; all that eat them shall be defiled; for their bread for their soul shall not enter into the house of the Lord.

 9:4 They shall notº offerºº wineº [offerings] to Yahweh,º neitherº shall they be pleasingºº unto him: their sacrificesº [shall be] unto them as the breadº of mourners;º allº that eatºº thereof shall be polluted:ºº forº their breadº for their soulº shall notº comeºº intoº the houseº of Yahweh.º

 9:5 What will ye do in the day of the general assembly, and in the day of the feast of the Lord?

 9:5 Whatº will ye doºº in the solemnº day,º and in the dayº of the feastº of Yahweh?º

 9:6 Therefore, behold, they go forth from the trouble of Mizraim{gr.Egypt}, and Noph{gr.Memphis} shall receive them, and Michmash{gr.Machmas} shall bury them: [as for] their silver, destruction shall inherit it; thorns [shall be] in their tents.

 9:6 For,º lo,º they are goneºº because of destruction:ºº Egyptº shall gather them up,ºº Memphisº shall buryºº them: the pleasantº [places] for their silver,º nettlesº shall possessºº them: thornsº [shall be] in their tabernacles.º

 9:7 The days of vengeance are come, the days of thy recompense are come; and Israel shall be afflicted as the prophet that is mad, as a man deranged: by reason of the multitude of thine iniquities thy madness has abounded.

 9:7 The daysº of visitationº are come,ºº the daysº of recompenceº are come;ºº Israelº shall knowºº [it]: the prophetº [is] a fool,º the spiritualº manº [is] mad,ºº forº the multitudeº of thine iniquity,º and the greatº hatred.º

 9:8 The watchman of Ephraim [was] with God: the prophet is a crooked snare in all his ways: they have established madness in the house of God.

 9:8 The watchmanºº of Ephraimº [was] withº my Elohim:º [but] the prophetº [is] a snareº of a fowlerº inº allº his ways,º [and] hatredº in the houseº of his Elohim.º

 9:9 They have corrupted themselves according to the days of the hill: he will remember their iniquities, he will take vengeance on their sins.

 9:9 They have deeplyºº corruptedºº [themselves], as in the daysº of Gibeah:º [therefore] he will rememberºº their iniquity,º he will visitºº their sins.º

 9:10 I found Israel as grapes in the wilderness, and I saw their fathers as an early watchman in a fig-tree: they went in to Baal{gr.Beel}-phegor, and were shamefully estranged, and the abominable became as the beloved.

 9:10 I foundºº Israelº like grapesº in the wilderness;º I sawºº your fathersº as the firstripeº in the fig treeº at her first time:º [but] theyº wentºº to Baalpeor,º and separatedºº themselvesº unto [that] shame;º and [their] abominationsº wereº according as they loved.ºº

 9:11 Ephraim has flown away as a bird; their glories from the birth, and the travail, and the conception.

 9:11 [As for] Ephraim,º their gloryº shall fly awayºº like a bird,º from the birth,ººº and from the womb,ºº and from the conception.ºº

 9:12 For even if they should rear their children, yet shall they be utterly bereaved: wherefore also there is woe to them, [though] my flesh is of them.

 9:12 Thoughºº they bring upººº their children,º yet will I bereaveºº them, [that there shall] not [be] a manºº [left]: yea,º woeº alsoº to them when I departºº fromº them!

 9:13 Ephraim, [even] as I saw, gave their children for a prey; yea, Ephraim [was ready] to bring out his children to slaughter.

 9:13 Ephraim,º asº I sawºº Tyrus,º [is] plantedºº in a pleasant place:º but Ephraimº shall bring forthºº his childrenº toº the murderer.ºº

 9:14 Give them, O Lord: what wilt thou give them? a miscarrying womb, and dry breasts.

 9:14 Giveºº them, O Yahweh:º whatº wilt thou give?ºº giveºº them a miscarryingºº wombº and dryºº breasts.º

 9:15 All their wickedness is in Gilgal{gr.Galgal}: for there I hated them: because of the wickedness of their practices, I will cast them out of my house, I will not love them any more: all their princes are disobedient.

 9:15 Allº their wickednessº [is] in Gilgal:º forº thereº I hatedºº them: forº the wickednessº of their doingsº I will drive them outºº of mine house,ºº I will loveºº them noº more:ºº allº their princesº [are] revolters.ºº

 9:16 Ephraim is sick, he is dried up at his roots, he shall in no wise any more bear fruit: wherefore even if they should beget [children], I will kill the desired [fruit] of their womb.

 9:16 Ephraimº is smitten,ºº their rootº is dried up,ºº they shall bearºº noº fruit:º yea,º thoughº they bring forth,ºº yet will I slayºº [even] the belovedº [fruit] of their womb.º

 9:17 God shall reject them, because they have not hearkened to him: and they shall be wanderers among the nations.

 9:17 My Elohimº will cast them away,ºº becauseº they did notº hearkenºº unto him: and they shall beº wanderersºº among the nations.º
