 2:1 ¶ Then we turned,ºº and took our journeyºº into the wildernessº by the wayº of the Sûf סוּףº sea,º asº Yähwè יָהוֶהº spakeºº untoº me: and we compassedººº mountº §ë`îr שֵׂעִירº manyº days.º

 2:1 ¶ Then we turned, and took our journey into the wilderness by the way of the Suf sea, as Yahweh spake unto me: and we compassed mount Seir many days.

 2:2 And Yähwè יָהוֶהº spakeºº untoº me, saying,ºº

 2:2 And Yahweh spake unto me, saying,

 2:3 Ye have compassedººº thisº mountainº long enough:º turnºº you northward.º

 2:3 Ye have compassed this mountain long enough: turn you northward.

 2:4 And commandºº thou the people,º saying,ºº Yeº [are] to passºº throughº the coastº of your brethrenº the childrenº of `Ë$äw עֵשָׂו,º which dwellºº in §ë`îr שֵׂעִיר;º and they shall be afraidºº ofº you: take ye goodº heedºº unto yourselves therefore:ºº

 2:4 And command thou the people, saying, Ye [are] to pass through the coast of your brethren the children of Esaw, which dwell in Seir; and they shall be afraid of you: take ye good heed unto yourselves therefore:

 2:5 Meddleºº notº with them; forº I will notº giveºº you of their land,ºº no, not so muchº as a footº breadth;ººº becauseº I have givenººº mountº §ë`îr שֵׂעִירº unto `Ë$äw עֵשָׂוº [for] a possession.º

 2:5 Meddle not with them; for I will not give you of their land, no, not so much as a foot breadth; because I have given mount Seir unto Esaw [for] a possession.

 2:6 Ye shall buyºº meatº ofºº them for money,º that ye may eat;ºº and ye shall alsoº buyºº waterº ofºº them for money,º that ye may drink.ºº

 2:6 Ye shall buy meat of them for money, that ye may eat; and ye shall also buy water of them for money, that ye may drink.

 2:7 Forº Yähwè יָהוֶהº thy ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº hath blessedºº thee in allº the worksº of thy hand:º he knowethºº thy walkingºº throughºº thisº greatº wilderness:º theseº fortyº yearsº Yähwè יָהוֶהº thy ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº [hath been] withº thee; thou hast lackedºº nothing.ºº

 2:7 For Yahweh thy Elohim hath blessed thee in all the works of thy hand: he knoweth thy walking through this great wilderness: these forty years Yahweh thy Elohim [hath been] with thee; thou hast lacked nothing.

 2:8 And when we passedºº byº fromºº our brethrenº the childrenº of `Ë$äw עֵשָׂו,º which dweltºº in §ë`îr שֵׂעִיר,º through the wayºº of the plainº from ´Êla± אֵילַת,ºº and from `Exyôn Gäver עֶציוֹן־גָּבֶר,ºº we turnedºº and passedºº by the wayº of the wildernessº of Mô´äv מוֹאָב.º

 2:8 And when we passed by from our brethren the children of Esaw, which dwelt in Seir, through the way of the plain from Elath, and from Etzyon-Gaver, we turned and passed by the way of the wilderness of Moav.

 2:9 And Yähwè יָהוֶהº saidºº untoº me, Distressºº notºº the Mô´ävîm מוֹאָבִים,º neitherº contendºº with them in battle:º forº I will notº giveºº thee of their landºº [for] a possession;º becauseº I have givenººº `Är עָרº unto the childrenº of Lô+ לוֹטº [for] a possession.º

 2:9 And Yahweh said unto me, Distress not the Moavim, neither contend with them in battle: for I will not give thee of their land [for] a possession; because I have given Ar unto the children of Lot [for] a possession.

 2:10 The ´Êmîm אֵימִיםº dweltºº therein in times past,º a peopleº great,º and many,º and tall,ºº as the `Ánäkîm עֲנָקִים;º

 2:10 The Emim dwelt therein in times past, a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anaqim;

 2:11 Whichº alsoº were accountedºº giants,º as the `Ánäkîm עֲנָקִים;º but the Mô´ävîm מוֹאָבִיםº callºº them ´Êmîm אֵימִים.º

 2:11 Which also were accounted giants, as the Anaqim; but the Moavim call them Emim.

 2:12 The Çörîm חֹרִיםº also dweltºº in §ë`îr שֵׂעִירº beforetime;º but the childrenº of `Ë$äw עֵשָׂוº succeededºº them, when they had destroyedºº them from beforeºº them, and dweltºº in their stead;º asº Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº didºº unto the landº of his possession,º whichº Yähwè יָהוֶהº gaveºº unto them.

 2:12 The Chorim also dwelt in Seir beforetime; but the children of Esaw succeeded them, when they had destroyed them from before them, and dwelt in their stead; as Yisrael did unto the land of his possession, which Yahweh gave unto them.

 2:13 Nowº rise up,ºº [said I], and get you overººº the brookº Zereð זֶרֶד.º And we went overººº the brookº Zereð זֶרֶד.º

 2:13 Now rise up, [said I], and get you over the brook Zered. And we went over the brook Zered.

 2:14 And the spaceº in whichº we cameºº from Käðëš Barnëå` קָדֵשׁ־בַּרנֵעַ,ºº untilºº we were come overººº the brookº Zereð זֶרֶד,º [was] thirtyº and eightº years;º untilº allº the generationº of the menºº of warº were wastedº outºº from amongºº the host,º asº Yähwè יָהוֶהº swareºº unto them.

 2:14 And the space in which we came from Qadesh-Barnea, until we were come over the brook Zered, [was] thirty and eight years; until all the generation of the men of war were wasted out from among the host, as Yahweh sware unto them.

 2:15 For indeedº the handº of Yähwè יָהוֶהº wasº against them, to destroyºº them from amongºº the host,º untilº they were consumed.ºº

 2:15 For indeed the hand of Yahweh was against them, to destroy them from among the host, until they were consumed.

 2:16 ¶ So it came to pass,º whenº allº the menºº of warº were consumedºº and deadºº from amongºº the people,º

 2:16 ¶ So it came to pass, when all the men of war were consumed and dead from among the people,

 2:17 That Yähwè יָהוֶהº spakeºº untoº me, saying,ºº

 2:17 That Yahweh spake unto me, saying,

 2:18 Thouº art to pass overºº throughº `Är עָר,ºº the coastº of Mô´äv מוֹאָב,º this day:º

 2:18 Thou art to pass over through Ar, the coast of Moav, this day:

 2:19 And [when] thou comest nighºº over againstº the childrenº of `Ammôn עַמּוֹן,º distressºº them not,º norº meddleºº with them: forº I will notº giveºº thee of the landºº of the childrenº of `Ammôn עַמּוֹןº [any] possession;º becauseº I have givenºº it unto the childrenº of Lô+ לוֹטº [for] a possession.º

 2:19 And [when] thou comest nigh over against the children of Ammon, distress them not, nor meddle with them: for I will not give thee of the land of the children of Ammon [any] possession; because I have given it unto the children of Lot [for] a possession.

 2:20 (Thatº alsoº was accountedºº a landº of giants:º giantsº dweltºº therein in old time;º and the `Ammönîm עַמֹּנִיםº callºº them Zamzummîm זַמזֻמִּים;º

 2:20 (That also was accounted a land of giants: giants dwelt therein in old time; and the Ammonim call them Zamzummim;

 2:21 A peopleº great,º and many,º and tall,ºº as the `Ánäkîm עֲנָקִים;º but Yähwè יָהוֶהº destroyedºº them beforeºº them; and they succeededºº them, and dweltºº in their stead:º

 2:21 A people great, and many, and tall, as the Anaqim; but Yahweh destroyed them before them; and they succeeded them, and dwelt in their stead:

 2:22 Asº he didºº to the childrenº of `Ë$äw עֵשָׂו,º which dweltºº in §ë`îr שֵׂעִיר,º whenº he destroyedººº the Çörîm חֹרִיםº from beforeºº them; and they succeededºº them, and dweltºº in their steadº even untoº thisº day:º

 2:22 As he did to the children of Esaw, which dwelt in Seir, when he destroyed the Chorim from before them; and they succeeded them, and dwelt in their stead even unto this day:

 2:23 And the `Awwîm עַוִּיםºº which dweltºº in Çáxërîm חֲצֵרִים,º [even] untoº `Azzà עַזָּה,º the Caftörîm כַּפתֹּרִים,º which came forthºº out of Caftôr כַּפתּוֹר,ºº destroyedºº them, and dweltºº in their stead.)º

 2:23 And the Awwim which dwelt in Chatzerim, [even] unto Azzah, the Kaftorim, which came forth out of Kaftor, destroyed them, and dwelt in their stead.)

 2:24 ¶ Rise ye up,ºº take your journey,ºº and pass overººº the riverº ´Arnôn אַרנוֹן:º behold,ºº I have givenºº into thine handºº Sîçôn סִיחוֹןº the ´Émörî אֱמֹרִי,º kingº of Çešbôn חֶשׁבּוֹן,º and his land:º beginºº to possessºº [it], and contendºº with him in battle.º

 2:24 ¶ Rise ye up, take your journey, and pass over the river Arnon: behold, I have given into thine hand Sichon the Emori, king of Cheshbon, and his land: begin to possess [it], and contend with him in battle.

 2:25 Thisº dayº will I beginºº to putºº the dreadº of thee and the fearº of thee uponº the nationsºº [that are] underº the wholeº heaven,º whoº shall hearºº reportº of thee, and shall tremble,ºº and be in anguishºº becauseºº of thee.º

 2:25 This day will I begin to put the dread of thee and the fear of thee upon the nations [that are] under the whole heaven, who shall hear report of thee, and shall tremble, and be in anguish because of thee.

 2:26 ¶ And I sentºº messengersº out of the wildernessºº of Kæðëmô± קְדֵמוֹתº untoº Sîçôn סִיחוֹןº kingº of Çešbôn חֶשׁבּוֹןº with wordsº of peace,º saying,ºº

 2:26 ¶ And I sent messengers out of the wilderness of Qedemoth unto Sichon king of Cheshbon with words of peace, saying,

 2:27 Let me passºº through thy land:º I will goººº along by the high way,º I will neitherº turnºº unto the right handº nor to the left.º

 2:27 Let me pass through thy land: I will go along by the high way, I will neither turn unto the right hand nor to the left.

 2:28 Thou shalt sellºº me meatº for money,º that I may eat;ºº and giveºº me waterº for money,º that I may drink:ºº onlyº I will pass throughºº on my feet;º

 2:28 Thou shalt sell me meat for money, that I may eat; and give me water for money, that I may drink: only I will pass through on my feet;

 2:29 (Asº the childrenº of `Ë$äw עֵשָׂוº which dwellºº in §ë`îr שֵׂעִיר,º and the Mô´ävîm מוֹאָבִיםº which dwellºº in `Är עָר,º didºº unto me;) untilºº I shall pass overººº Yardën יַרדֵּןº intoº the landº whichº Yähwè יָהוֶהº our ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº givethºº us.

 2:29 (As the children of Esaw which dwell in Seir, and the Moavim which dwell in Ar, did unto me;) until I shall pass over Yarden into the land which Yahweh our Elohim giveth us.

 2:30 But Sîçôn סִיחוֹןº kingº of Çešbôn חֶשׁבּוֹןº wouldºº notº let us passºº by him: forº Yähwè יָהוֶהº thy ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº hardenedººº his spirit,º and made his heartº obstinate,ºººº thatº he might deliverºº him into thy hand,º as [appeareth] thisº day.º

 2:30 But Sichon king of Cheshbon would not let us pass by him: for Yahweh thy Elohim hardened his spirit, and made his heart obstinate, that he might deliver him into thy hand, as [appeareth] this day.

 2:31 And Yähwè יָהוֶהº saidºº untoº me, Behold,ºº I have begunºº to giveººº Sîçôn סִיחוֹןº and his landº beforeº thee: beginºº to possess,ºº that thou mayest inheritººº his land.º

 2:31 And Yahweh said unto me, Behold, I have begun to give Sichon and his land before thee: begin to possess, that thou mayest inherit his land.

 2:32 Then Sîçôn סִיחוֹןº came outºº againstºº us, heº and allº his people,º to fightº at Yahax יַהַץ.º

 2:32 Then Sichon came out against us, he and all his people, to fight at Yahatz.

 2:33 And Yähwè יָהוֶהº our ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº deliveredºº him beforeº us; and we smoteººº him, and his sons,º and allº his people.º

 2:33 And Yahweh our Elohim delivered him before us; and we smote him, and his sons, and all his people.

 2:34 And we tookººº allº his citiesº at thatº time,º and utterly destroyedºº the men,º and the women,º and the little ones,ºº of everyº city,º we leftºº noneº to remain:º

 2:34 And we took all his cities at that time, and utterly destroyed the men, and the women, and the little ones, of every city, we left none to remain:

 2:35 Onlyº the cattleº we took for a preyºº unto ourselves, and the spoilº of the citiesº whichº we took.ºº

 2:35 Only the cattle we took for a prey unto ourselves, and the spoil of the cities which we took.

 2:36 Fromº `Árö`ër עֲרֹעֵר,º whichº [is] byº the brinkº of the riverº of ´Arnôn אַרנוֹן,º and [from] the cityº thatº [is] by the river,º even untoº Gil`äð גִּלעָד,º there wasº notº one cityº too strongºº forº us: Yähwè יָהוֶהº our ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº deliveredººº allº untoº us:º

 2:36 From Aroer, which [is] by the brink of the river of Arnon, and [from] the city that [is] by the river, even unto Gilad, there was not one city too strong for us: Yahweh our Elohim delivered all unto us:

 2:37 Onlyº untoº the landº of the childrenº of `Ammôn עַמּוֹןº thou camestºº not,º [nor] unto anyº placeº of the riverº Yabbök יַבֹּק,º nor unto the citiesº in the mountains,º nor unto whatsoeverº Yähwè יָהוֶהº our ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº forbadºº us.

 2:37 Only unto the land of the children of Ammon thou camest not, [nor] unto any place of the river Yabboq, nor unto the cities in the mountains, nor unto whatsoever Yahweh our Elohim forbad us.
