 9:1 ¶ And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star from heaven fallen unto the earth: and there was given to him the key of the pit of the abyss.

 9:1 ¶ Andº theº fifthº angelº sounded,ºº andº I sawºº a starº fallºº fromº heavenº untoº theº earth:º andº to himº was givenºº theº keyº of theº bottomlessº pit.º

 9:2 And he opened the pit of the abyss; and there went up a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit.

 9:2 Andº he openedºº theº bottomlessº pit;º andº there aroseºº a smokeº out ofº theº pit,º asº the smokeº of a greatº furnace;º andº theº sunº andº theº airº were darkenedºº by reason ofº theº smokeº of theº pit.º

 9:3 And out of the smoke came forth locusts upon the earth; and power was given them, as the scorpions of the earth have power.

 9:3 Andº there cameºº out ofº theº smokeº locustsº uponº theº earth:º andº unto themº was givenºº power,º asº theº scorpionsº of theº earthº haveºº power.º

 9:4 And it was said unto them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree, but only such men as have not the seal of God on their foreheads.

 9:4 Andº it was commandedºº themº thatººº they shouldºº notºº hurtºº theº grassº of theº earth,º neitherº anyº green thing,º neitherº anyº tree;º butº onlyº those menº whichº haveºº notº theº sealº of Godº inº theirºº foreheads.º

 9:5 And it was given them that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when it striketh a man.

 9:5 Andº to themº it was givenºº thatººº they shouldºº notºº killºº them,º butº thatº they should be tormentedºº fiveº months:º andº theirºº tormentº [was] asº the tormentº of a scorpion,º whenº he strikethºº a man.º

 9:6 And in those days men shall seek death, and shall in no wise find it; and they shall desire to die, and death fleeth from them.

 9:6 Andº inº thoseº daysº shall menº seekºº death,º andº shallºº notº findºº it;º andº shall desireºº to die,ºº andº deathº shall fleeºº fromº them.º

 9:7 And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared for war; and upon their heads as it were crowns like unto gold, and their faces were as men's faces.

 9:7 Andº theº shapesº of theº locustsº [were] likeº untoº horsesº preparedºº untoº battle;º andº onº theirºº headsº [were] as it wereº crownsº likeº gold,º andº theirºº facesº [were] asº the facesº of men.º

 9:8 And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as [teeth] of lions.

 9:8 Andº they hadºº hairº asº the hairº of women,º andº theirºº teethº wereºº asº [the teeth] of lions.º

 9:9 And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots, of many horses rushing to war.

 9:9 Andº they hadºº breastplates,º as it wereº breastplatesº of iron;º andº theº soundº of theirºº wingsº [was] asº the soundº of chariotsº of manyº horsesº runningºº toº battle.º

 9:10 And they have tails like unto scorpions, and stings; and in their tails is their power to hurt men five months.

 9:10 Andº they hadºº tailsº likeº untoº scorpions,º andº there wereºº stingsº inº theirºº tails:º andº theirºº powerº [was] to hurtºº menº fiveº months.º

 9:11 They have over them as king the angel of the abyss: his name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in the Greek [tongue] he hath the name Apollyon.

 9:11 Andº they hadºº a kingº overº them,ºº [which is] theº angelº of theº bottomless pit,º whoseº nameº in the Hebrew tongueº [is] Abaddon,º butº inº theº Greek tongueº hathºº [his] nameº Apollyon.º

 9:12 The first Woe is past: behold, there come yet two Woes hereafter.

 9:12 Oneº woeº is past;ºº [and], behold,ºº there comeºº twoº woesº moreº hereafter.ºº

 9:13 And the sixth angel sounded, and I heard a voice from the horns of the golden altar which is before God,

 9:13 Andº theº sixthº angelº sounded,ºº andº I heardºº aº voiceº fromº theº fourº hornsº of theº goldenº altarº whichº is beforeº God,º

 9:14 one saying to the sixth angel that had one trumpet, Loose the four angels that are bound at the great river Euphrates.

 9:14 Sayingºº to theº sixthº angelº whichº hadºº theº trumpet,º Looseºº theº fourº angelsº whichº are boundºº inº theº greatº riverº Euphrates.º

 9:15 And the four angels were loosed, that had been prepared for the hour and day and month and year, that they should kill the third part of men.

 9:15 Andº theº fourº angelsº were loosed,ºº whichº were preparedºº forº an hour,º andº a day,º andº a month,º andº a year,º for toº slayºº theº third partº of men.º

 9:16 And the number of the armies of the horsemen was twice ten thousand times ten thousand: I heard the number of them.

 9:16 Andº theº numberº of the armyº of theº horsemenº [were] two hundredº thousandº thousand:ºº andº I heardºº theº numberº of them.º

 9:17 And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and them that sat on them, having breastplates [as] of fire and of hyacinth and of brimstone: and the heads of lions; and out of their mouths proceedeth fire and smoke and brimstone.

 9:17 Andº thusº I sawºº theº horsesº inº theº vision,º andº them that satºº onº them,º havingºº breastplatesº of fire,º andº of jacinth,º andº brimstone:º andº theº headsº of theº horsesº [were] asº the headsº of lions;º andº out ofº theirºº mouthsº issuedºº fireº andº smokeº andº brimstone.º

 9:18 By these three plagues was the third part of men killed, by the fire and the smoke and the brimstone, which proceeded out of their mouths.

 9:18 Byº theseº threeº wasºº theº third partº of menº killed,ºº byº theº fire,º andº byº theº smoke,º andº byº theº brimstone,º whichº issuedºº out ofº theirºº mouths.º

 9:19 For the power of the horses is in their mouth, and in their tails: for their tails are like unto serpents, and have heads; and with them they hurt.

 9:19 Forº theirºº powerº isºººº inº theirºº mouth,º andº inº theirºº tails:º forº theirºº tailsº [were] likeº untoº serpents,º and hadºº heads,º andº withº themº they do hurt.ºº

 9:20 And the rest of mankind, who were not killed with these plagues, repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship demons, and the idols of gold, and of silver, and of brass, and of stone, and of wood; which can neither see, nor hear, nor walk:

 9:20 Andº theº restº of theº menº whichº wereºº notº killedºº byº theseº plaguesº yetºº repentedºº notºº ofº theº worksº of theirºº hands,º thatººº they shouldºº notºº worshipºº devils,º andº idolsº of gold,º andº silver,º andº brass,º andº stone,º andº of wood:º whichº neitherº canºº see,ºº norº hear,ºº norº walk:ºº

 9:21 and they repented not of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.

 9:21 Neitherºº repentedº theyºº ofº theirºº murders,º norº ofº theirºº sorceries,º norº ofº theirºº fornication,º norº ofº theirºº thefts.º
