 17:1 ¶
And the borders of the tribe of the children of Manasseh{gr.Manasse}, (for he [was] the first-born of Joseph,) [assigned] to Machir the first-born of Manasseh{gr.Manasse} the father of Gilead{gr.Galaad}, for he was a warrior, [were] in the land of Gilead{gr.Galaad} and of Bashan{gr.Basan}. |
|
 17:1 ¶
There wasº
also a lotº
for the tribeº
of Manasseh;º
forº
heº
[was] the firstbornº
of Joseph;º
[to wit], for Machirº
the firstbornº
of Manasseh,º
the fatherº
of Gilead:º
becauseº
heº
wasº
a manº
of war,º
therefore he hadº
Gileadº
and Bashan.º |
 17:2
And there was [land] assigned to the other sons of Manasseh{gr.Manasse} according to their families; to the sons of Jezi, and to the sons of Kelez, and to the sons of Jeziel, and to the sons of Shechem{gr.Sychem}, and to the sons of Symarim, and to the sons of Hepher{gr.Opher}: these [are] the males according to their families. |
|
 17:2
There wasº
also [a lot] for the restºº
of the childrenº
of Manassehº
by their families;º
for the childrenº
of Abiezer,º
and for the childrenº
of Helek,º
and for the childrenº
of Asriel,º
and for the childrenº
of Shechem,º
and for the childrenº
of Hepher,º
and for the childrenº
of Shemida:º
theseº
[were] the maleº
childrenº
of Manassehº
the sonº
of Josephº
by their families.º |
 17:3 ¶
And Zelophehad{gr.Salpaad} the sons of Hepher{gr.Opher} had no sons but daughters: and these [are] the names of the daughters of Zelophehad{gr.Salpaad}; Maala, and Nua, and Hoglah{gr.Egla}, and Milcah{gr.Melcha}, and Tirzah{gr.Thersa}. |
|
 17:3 ¶
But Zelophehad,º
the sonº
of Hepher,º
the sonº
of Gilead,º
the sonº
of Machir,º
the sonº
of Manasseh,º
hadº
noº
sons,º
butºº
daughters:º
and theseº
[are] the namesº
of his daughters,º
Mahlah,º
and Noah,º
Hoglah,º
Milcah,º
and Tirzah.º |
 17:4
And they stood before Eleazar the priest, and before Joshua{gr.Jesus}, and before the rulers, saying, God gave a charge by the hand of Mosheh{gr.Moses}, to give us an inheritance in the midst of our brethren: so there was given to them by the command of the Lord an inheritance among the brethren of their father. |
|
 17:4
And they came nearºº
beforeº
Eleazarº
the priest,º
and beforeº
Joshuaº
the sonº
of Nun,º
and beforeº
the princes,º
saying,ºº
Yahwehº
commandedººº
Mosesº
to giveºº
us an inheritanceº
amongº
our brethren.º
Therefore accordingº
to the commandmentº
of Yahwehº
he gaveºº
them an inheritanceº
amongº
the brethrenº
of their father.º |
 17:5
And their lot fell [to them] from Anassa, and [to the] plain of Labec of the land of Gilead{gr.Galaad}, which is beyond Jordan. |
|
 17:5
And there fellºº
tenº
portionsº
to Manasseh,º
besideº
the landºº
of Gileadº
and Bashan,º
whichº
[were] on the other sideº
Jordan;º |
 17:6
For the daughters of the sons of Manasseh{gr.Manasse} inherited a portion in the midst of their brethren, and the land of Gilead{gr.Galaad} was assigned to the remainder of the sons of Manasseh{gr.Manasse}. |
|
 17:6
Becauseº
the daughtersº
of Manassehº
hadºº
an inheritanceºº
amongº
his sons:º
and the restºº
of Manasseh'sº
sonsº
hadº
the landº
of Gilead.º |
 17:7 ¶
And the borders of the sons of Manasseh{gr.Manasse} were Delanath, which is before the sons of Anath, and it proceeds to the borders [even] to Jamin and Jassib to the fountain of Thaphthoth. |
|
 17:7 ¶
And the coastº
of Manassehº
wasº
from Asherºº
to Michmethah,º
thatº
[lieth] beforeºº
Shechem;º
and the borderº
went alongºº
onº
the right handº
untoº
the inhabitantsºº
of Entappuah.º |
 17:8
It shall belong to Manasseh{gr.Manasse}, and Thapheth on the borders of Manasseh{gr.Manasse} [shall belong] to the sons of Ephraim. |
|
 17:8
[Now] Manassehº
hadº
the landº
of Tappuah:º
but Tappuahº
onº
the borderº
of Manassehº
[belonged] to the childrenº
of Ephraim;º |
 17:9
And the borders shall go down to the valley of Carana southward by the valley of Jariel, ([there is] a turpentine tree [belonging] to Ephraim between [that and] the city of Manasseh{gr.Manasse}:) and the borders of Manasseh{gr.Manasse} [are] northward to the brook; and the sea shall be its termination. |
|
 17:9
And the coastº
descendedºº
unto the riverº
Kanah,º
southwardº
of the river:º
theseº
citiesº
of Ephraimº
[are] amongº
the citiesº
of Manasseh:º
the coastº
of Manassehº
also [was] on the north sideºº
of the river,º
and the outgoingsº
of it wereº
at the sea:º |
 17:10
Southward [the land belongs] to Ephraim, and northward to Manasseh{gr.Manasse}; and the sea shall be their cost; and northward they shall border upon Aseb, and eastward upon Issachar. |
|
 17:10
Southwardº
[it was] Ephraim's,º
and northwardº
[it was] Manasseh's,º
and the seaº
isº
his border;º
and they met togetherºº
in Asherº
on the north,ºº
and in Issacharº
on the east.ºº |
 17:11
And Manasseh{gr.Manasses} shall have in [the portion of] Issachar and Asher{gr.Aser} Baethsan and their villages, and the inhabitants of Dor, and its villages, and the inhabitants of Megiddo{gr.Mageddo}, and its villages, and the third part of Mapheta, and its villages. |
|
 17:11
And Manassehº
hadº
in Issacharº
and in Asherº
Bethsheanº
and her towns,º
and Ibleamº
and her towns,º
and the inhabitantsºº
of Dorº
and her towns,º
and the inhabitantsºº
of Endorº
and her towns,º
and the inhabitantsºº
of Taanachº
and her towns,º
and the inhabitantsºº
of Megiddoº
and her towns,º
[even] threeº
countries.º |
 17:12
And the sons of Manasseh{gr.Manasse} were not able to destroy these cities; and the Canaanite{gr.Chananite} began to dwell in that land. |
|
 17:12
Yet the childrenº
of Manassehº
couldºº
notº
drive outºº
[the inhabitants of]º
thoseº
cities;º
but the Canaanitesº
wouldºº
dwellºº
in thatº
land.º |
 17:13
And it came to pass that when the children of Israel were strong, they made the Canaanites{gr.Chananites} subject, but they did not utterly destroy them. |
|
 17:13
Yet it came to pass,º
whenº
the childrenº
of Israelº
were waxen strong,ºº
that they putººº
the Canaanitesº
to tribute;º
but did notº
utterlyºº
drive them out.ºº |
 17:14
And the sons of Joseph answered Joshua{gr.Jesus}, saying, Wherefore hast thou caused us to inherit one inheritance, and one line? whereas I am a great people, and God has blessed me. |
|
 17:14
And the childrenº
of Josephº
spakeºº
untoºº
Joshua,º
saying,ºº
Whyº
hast thou givenºº
me [but] oneº
lotº
and oneº
portionº
to inherit,º
seeing Iº
[am] a greatº
people,º
forasmuchº
asº
Yahwehº
hath blessedºº
me hitherto?ººº |
 17:15
And Joshua{gr.Jesus} said to them, If thou be a great people, go up to the forest, and clear [the land] for thyself, If mount Ephraim be too little for thee. |
|
 17:15
And Joshuaº
answeredººº
them, Ifº
thouº
[be] a greatº
people,º
[then] get thee upºº
to the woodº
[country], and cut downºº
for thyself thereº
in the landº
of the Perizzitesº
and of the giants,º
ifº
mountº
Ephraimº
be too narrowºº
for thee. |
 17:16
And they said, The mount of Ephraim does not please us, and the Canaanite{gr.Chananite} dwelling in it in Baethsan, and in its villages, [and] in the valley of Jezreel{gr.Jezrael}, has choice cavalry and iron. |
|
 17:16
And the childrenº
of Josephº
said,ºº
The hillº
is notº
enoughºº
for us: and allº
the Canaanitesº
that dwellºº
in the landº
of the valleyº
have chariotsº
of iron,º
[both they] whoº
[are] of Bethsheanº
and her towns,º
and [they] whoº
[are] of the valleyº
of Jezreel.º |
 17:17
And Joshua{gr.Jesus} said to the sons of Joseph, If thou art a great people, and hast great strength, thou shalt not have [only] one inheritance. |
|
 17:17
And Joshuaº
spakeºº
untoº
the houseº
of Joseph,º
[even] to Ephraimº
and to Manasseh,º
saying,ºº
Thouº
[art] a greatº
people,º
and hast greatº
power:º
thou shalt notº
haveº
oneº
lotº
[only]: |
 17:18
For thou shalt have the wood, for there is a wood, and thou shalt clear it, and [the land] shall be thine; even when thou shalt have utterly destroyed the Canaanite{gr.Chananite}, for he has chosen cavalry; yet thou art stronger than he. |
|
 17:18
Butº
the mountainº
shall beº
thine; forº
itº
[is] a wood,º
and thou shalt cut it down:ºº
and the outgoingsº
of it shall beº
thine: forº
thou shalt drive outººº
the Canaanites,º
thoughº
they have ironº
chariots,º
[and] thoughº
theyº
[be] strong.º |
