 24:1 ¶
And Joshua{gr.Jesus} gathered all the tribe of Israel to Shiloh{gr.Selo}, and convoked their elders, and their officers, and their judges, and set them before God. |
|
 24:1 ¶
And Joshuaº
gatheredººº
allº
the tribesº
of Israelº
to Shechem,º
and calledºº
for the eldersº
of Israel,º
and for their heads,º
and for their judges,ºº
and for their officers;ºº
and they presentedºº
themselvesº
beforeº
Elohim.º |
 24:2
And Joshua{gr.Jesus} said to all the people, Thus says the Lord God of Israel, Your fathers at first sojourned beyond the river, [even] Thara, the father of Abraham{gr.Abraam} and the father of Nahor{gr.Nachor}; and they served other gods. |
|
 24:2
And Joshuaº
saidºº
untoº
allº
the people,º
Thusº
saithºº
Yahwehº
Elohimº
of Israel,º
Your fathersº
dweltºº
on the other sideº
of the floodº
in old time,ºº
[even] Terah,º
the fatherº
of Abraham,º
and the fatherº
of Nachor:º
and they servedºº
otherº
elohim.º |
 24:3
And I took your father Abraham{gr.Abraam} from the other side of the river, and I guided him through all the land, and I multiplied his seed; |
|
 24:3
And I tookººº
your fatherºº
Abrahamº
from the other sideºº
of the flood,º
and ledººº
him throughout allº
the landº
of Canaan,º
and multipliedººº
his seed,º
and gaveºº
himº
Isaac.º |
 24:4
and I gave to him Isaac, and to Isaac Jacob and Esau: and I gave to Esau mount Seir for him to inherit: and Jacob and his sons went down to Mizraim{gr.Egypt}, and became there a great and populous and mighty nation: and the Mizraimites{gr.Egyptians} afflicted them. |
|
 24:4
And I gaveºº
unto Isaacºº
Jacobº
and Esau:º
and I gaveºº
unto Esauºº
mountº
Seir,º
to possessºº
it; but Jacobº
and his childrenº
went downºº
into Egypt.º |
 24:5
And I smote Mizraim{gr.Egypt} with the wonders that I wrought among them. |
|
 24:5
I sentººº
Mosesº
also and Aaron,º
and I plaguedººº
Egypt,º
according to that whichº
I didºº
amongº
them: and afterwardº
I brought you out.ººº |
 24:6
And afterwards [God] brought out our fathers from Mizraim{gr.Egypt}, and ye entered into the Red Sea; and the Mizraimites{gr.Egyptians} pursued after our fathers with chariots and horses into the Red Sea. |
|
 24:6
And I broughtºº
your fathersº
outººº
of Egypt:ºº
and ye cameºº
unto the sea;º
and the Egyptiansº
pursuedºº
afterº
your fathersº
with chariotsº
and horsemenº
unto the Redº
sea.º |
 24:7
And we cried aloud to the Lord; and he put a cloud and darkness between us and the Mizraimites{gr.Egyptians}, and he brought the sea upon them, and covered them; and your eyes have seen all that the Lord did in the land of Mizraim{gr.Egypt}; and ye were in the wilderness many days. |
|
 24:7
And when they criedºº
untoº
Yahweh,º
he putºº
darknessº
betweenº
you and the Egyptians,º
and broughtººº
the seaº
uponº
them, and coveredºº
them; and your eyesº
have seenººº
whatº
I have doneºº
in Egypt:º
and ye dweltºº
in the wildernessº
a longº
season.º |
 24:8
And he brought us into the land of the Amorites that dwelt beyond Jordan, and the Lord delivered them into our hands; and ye inherited their land, and utterly destroyed them from before you. |
|
 24:8
And I broughtºº
you intoº
the landº
of the Amorites,º
which dweltºº
on the other sideº
Jordan;º
and they foughtºº
withº
you: and I gaveºº
them into your hand,º
that ye might possessººº
their land;º
and I destroyedºº
them from beforeºº
you. |
 24:9
And Bela{gr.Balac}, king of Moab, son of Zippor{gr.Sepphor}, rose up, and made war against Israel, and sent and called Balaam to curse us. |
|
 24:9
Then Balakº
the sonº
of Zippor,º
kingº
of Moab,º
aroseºº
and warredºº
against Israel,º
and sentºº
and calledºº
Balaamº
the sonº
of Beorº
to curseºº
you: |
 24:10
But the Lord thy God would not destroy thee; and he greatly blessed us, and rescued us out of their hands, and delivered them [to us]. |
|
 24:10
But I wouldºº
notº
hearkenºº
unto Balaam;º
therefore he blessedºº
you still:ºº
so I deliveredºº
you out of his hand.ºº |
 24:11
And ye crossed over Jordan, and came to Jericho; and the inhabitants of Jericho fought against us, the Amorite, and the Canaanite{gr.Chananite}, and the Perizzite{gr.Pherezite}, and the Hivite{gr.Evite}, and the Jebusite, and the Hittite{gr.Chettite}, and the Girgashite{gr.Gergesite}, and the Lord delivered them into our hands. |
|
 24:11
And ye went overººº
Jordan,º
and cameºº
untoº
Jericho:º
and the menº
of Jerichoº
foughtºº
against you, the Amorites,º
and the Perizzites,º
and the Canaanites,º
and the Hittites,º
and the Girgashites,º
the Hivites,º
and the Jebusites;º
and I deliveredºº
them into your hand.º |
 24:12
And he sent forth the hornet before you; and he drove them out from before you, [even] twelve kings of the Amorites, not with thy sword, nor with thy bow. |
|
 24:12
And I sentººº
the hornetº
beforeº
you, which drave them outººº
from beforeºº
you, [even] the twoº
kingsº
of the Amorites;º
[but] notº
with thy sword,º
norº
with thy bow.º |
 24:13
And he gave you a land on which ye did not labour, and cities which ye did not build, and ye were settled in them; and ye eat [of] vineyards and oliveyards which ye did not plant. |
|
 24:13
And I have givenºº
you a landº
for whichº
ye did notº
labour,ºº
and citiesº
whichº
ye builtºº
not,º
and ye dwellºº
in them; of the vineyardsº
and oliveyardsº
whichº
ye plantedºº
notº
do yeº
eat.ºº |
 24:14 ¶
And now fear the Lord, and serve him in righteousness and justice; and remove the strange gods, which our fathers served beyond the river, and in Mizraim{gr.Egypt}; and serve the Lord. |
|
 24:14 ¶
Now thereforeº
fearººº
Yahweh,º
and serveºº
him in sincerityº
and in truth:º
and put awayººº
the elohimº
whichº
your fathersº
servedºº
on the other sideº
of the flood,º
and in Egypt;º
and serveºº
yeº
Yahweh.º |
 24:15
But if it seem not good to you to serve the Lord, choose to yourselves this day whom ye will serve, whether the gods of your fathers that were on the other side of the river, or the gods of the Amorites, among whom ye dwell upon their land: but I and my house will serve the Lord, for he is holy. |
|
 24:15
And ifº
it seem evilºº
unto youºº
to serveººº
Yahweh,º
chooseºº
you this dayºº
whomºº
ye will serve;ºº
whetherºº
the elohimº
whichº
your fathersº
servedºº
thatº
[were] on the other sideº
of the flood,º
orºº
the elohimº
of the Amorites,º
in whose landº
yeº
dwell:ºº
but as for meº
and my house,º
we will serveººº
Yahweh.º |
 24:16
And the people answered and said, Far be it from us to forsake the Lord, so as to serve other gods. |
|
 24:16
And the peopleº
answeredºº
and said,ºº
God forbidº
that we should forsakeºººº
Yahweh,º
to serveºº
otherº
elohim;º |
 24:17
The Lord our God, he is God; he brought up us and our fathers from Mizraim{gr.Egypt}, and kept us in all the way wherein we walked, and among all the nations through whom we passed. |
|
 24:17
Forº
Yahwehº
our Elohim,º
heº
[it is] that broughtº
us upºº
and our fathersº
out of the landºº
of Egypt,º
from the houseºº
of bondage,º
and whichº
didºº
thoseº
greatºº
signsº
in our sight,º
and preservedºº
us in allº
the wayº
whereinº
we went,ºº
and among allº
the peopleº
throughº
whom we passed:ºº |
 24:18
And the Lord cast out the Amorite, and all the nations that inhabited the land from before us: yea, we will serve the Lord, for he is our God. |
|
 24:18
And Yahwehº
drave outºº
from beforeºº
usº
allº
the people,º
even the Amoritesº
which dweltºº
in the land:º
[therefore] will weº
alsoº
serveººº
Yahweh;º
forº
heº
[is] our Elohim.º |
 24:19
And Joshua{gr.Jesus} said to the people, Indeed ye will not be able to serve the Lord, for God is holy; and he being jealous will not forgive your sins and your transgressions. |
|
 24:19
And Joshuaº
saidºº
untoº
the people,º
Ye cannotººº
serveººº
Yahweh:º
forº
heº
[is] an holyº
Elohim;º
heº
[is] a jealousº
El;º
he will notº
forgiveºº
your transgressionsº
nor your sins.º |
 24:20
Whensoever ye shall forsake the Lord and serve other gods, then he shall come upon you and afflict you, and consume you, because he has done you good. |
|
 24:20
Ifº
ye forsakeººº
Yahweh,º
and serveºº
strangeº
elohim,º
then he will turnºº
and do you hurt,ºº
and consumeºº
you, afterº
thatº
he hath done you good.ºº |
 24:21
And the people said to Joshua{gr.Jesus}, Nay, but we will serve the Lord. |
|
 24:21
And the peopleº
saidºº
untoº
Joshua,º
Nay;º
butº
we will serveººº
Yahweh.º |
 24:22
And Joshua{gr.Jesus} said to the people, Ye [are] witnesses against yourselves, that ye have chosen the Lord to serve him. |
|
 24:22
And Joshuaº
saidºº
untoº
the people,º
Yeº
[are] witnessesº
against yourselves thatº
yeº
have chosenºº
youº
Yahweh,º
to serveºº
him. And they said,ºº
[We are] witnesses.º |
 24:23
And now take away the strange gods that are among you, and set your heart right toward the Lord God of Israel. |
|
 24:23
Nowº
therefore put away,ºº
[said he], theº
strangeº
elohimº
whichº
[are] amongº
you, and inclineººº
your heartº
untoº
Yahwehº
Elohimº
of Israel.º |
 24:24
And the people said to Joshua{gr.Jesus}, We will serve the Lord, and we will hearken to his voice. |
|
 24:24
And the peopleº
saidºº
untoº
Joshua,ºº
Yahwehº
our Elohimº
will we serve,ºº
and his voiceº
will we obey.ºº |
 24:25
So Joshua{gr.Jesus} made a covenant with the people on that day, and gave them a law and an ordinance in Shiloh{gr.Selo} before the tabernacle of the God of Israel. |
|
 24:25
So Joshuaº
madeºº
a covenantº
with the peopleº
thatº
day,º
and setºº
them a statuteº
and an ordinanceº
in Shechem.º |
 24:26 ¶
And he wrote these words in the book of the laws of God: and Joshua{gr.Jesus} took a great stone, and set it up under the oak before the Lord. |
|
 24:26 ¶
And Joshuaº
wroteºº
theseºº
wordsº
in the bookº
of the lawº
of Elohim,º
and tookºº
a greatº
stone,º
and set it upºº
thereº
underº
an oak,º
thatº
[was] by the sanctuaryº
of Yahweh.º |
 24:27
And Joshua{gr.Jesus} said to the people, Behold, this stone shall be among you for a witness, for it has heard all the words that have been spoken to it by the Lord; for he has spoken to you this day; and this [stone] shall be among you for a witness in the last days, whenever ye shall deal falsely with the Lord my God. |
|
 24:27
And Joshuaº
saidºº
untoº
allº
the people,º
Behold,º
thisº
stoneº
shall beº
a witnessº
unto us; forº
itº
hath heardººº
allº
the wordsº
of Yahwehº
whichº
he spakeºº
untoº
us: it shall beº
therefore a witnessº
unto you, lestº
ye denyºº
your Elohim.º |
 24:28
And Joshua{gr.Jesus} dismissed the people, and they went every man to his place. |
|
 24:28
So Joshuaº
letº
the peopleº
depart,ºº
every manº
unto his inheritance.º |
 24:29 ¶
And it came to pass after these things that Joshua{gr.Jesus} the son of Nun{gr.Naue} the servant of the Lord died, [at the age] of a hundred and ten years. |
|
 24:29 ¶
And it came to passº
afterº
theseº
things,º
that Joshuaº
the sonº
of Nun,º
the servantº
of Yahweh,º
died,ºº
[being] an hundredº
and tenº
yearsº
old.ºº |
 24:30
And they buried him by the borders of his inheritance in Thamnasarach in the mount of Ephraim, northward of the mount of Gilead{gr.Galaad}: there they put with him into the tomb in which they buried him, the knives of stone with which he circumcised the children of Israel in Gilgal{gr.Galgala}, when he brought them out of Mizraim{gr.Egypt}, as the Lord appointed them; and there they are to this day. |
|
 24:30
And they buriedºº
him in the borderº
of his inheritanceº
in Timnathserah,º
whichº
[is] in mountº
Ephraim,º
on the north sideºº
of the hillº
of Gaash.º |
 24:31
And Israel served the Lord all the days of Joshua{gr.Jesus}, and all the days of the elders that lived as long as Joshua{gr.Jesus}, and all that knew all the works of the Lord which he wrought for Israel. |
|
 24:31
And Israelº
servedººº
Yahwehº
allº
the daysº
of Joshua,º
and allº
the daysº
of the eldersº
thatº
overlivedºººº
Joshua,º
and whichº
had knownººº
allº
the worksº
of Yahweh,º
thatº
he had doneºº
for Israel.º |
 24:32 ¶
And the children of Israel brought up the bones of Joseph out of Mizraim{gr.Egypt}, and buried [them] in Shechem{gr.Sicima}, in the portion of the land which Jacob bought of the Amorites who dwelt in Shechem{gr.Sicima} for a hundred ewe-lambs; and he gave it to Joseph for a portion. |
|
 24:32 ¶
And the bonesº
of Joseph,º
whichº
the childrenº
of Israelº
brought upºº
out of Egypt,ºº
buriedºº
they in Shechem,º
in a parcelº
of groundº
whichº
Jacobº
boughtºº
ofºº
the sonsº
of Hamorº
the fatherº
of Shechemºº
for an hundredº
pieces of silver:º
and it becameº
the inheritanceº
of the childrenº
of Joseph.º |
 24:33
And it came to pass afterwards that Eleazar the high-priest the son of Aaron died, and was buried in Gabaar of Phinehas{gr.Phinees} his son, which he gave him in mount Ephraim. In that day the children of Israel took the ark of God, and carried it about among them; and Phinehas{gr.Phinees} exercised the priest's office in the room of Eleazar his father till he died, and he was buried in his own place Gabaar: but the children of Israel departed every one to their place, and to their own city: and the children of Israel worshipped Ashtaroth{gr.Astarte}, and Ashtaroth{gr.Astaroth}, and the gods of the nations round about them; and the Lord delivered them into the hands of Eglon{gr.Eglom} king of Moab and he ruled over them eighteen years. |
|
 24:33
And Eleazarº
the sonº
of Aaronº
died;ºº
and they buriedºº
him in a hillº
[that pertained to] Phinehasº
his son,º
whichº
was givenºº
him in mountº
Ephraim.º |
