Leviticus 16

1 How the high priest must enter into the holy place. 11 The sin offering for himself. 15 The sin offering for the people. 20 The scapegoat. 29 The yearly feast of the expiations.

 16:1 Now the LORD 3068 spoke 1696 to Moses 4872 after 310 the death 4194 of the two 8147 sons 1121 of Aaron 175, when they had approached 7126 the presence 6440 of the LORD 3068 and died 4191.

 16:2 The LORD 3068 said 559 to Moses 4872: ¶ “Tell 1696 your brother 251 Aaron 175 that he shall not enter 935 at any 3605 time 6256 into the holy 6944 place inside 4480 1004 the veil 6532, before 413 6440 the mercy 3727 seat 3727 which 834 is on the ark 727, or 3808 he will die 4191; for I will appear 7200 in the cloud 6051 over 5921 the mercy 3727 seat 3727.

 16:3 “Aaron 175 shall enter 935 the holy 6944 place with this 2088: with a bull 6499 1121 1241 for a sin 2403b offering 2403b and a ram 352a for a burnt 5930a offering 5930a.

 16:4 “He shall put 3847 on the holy 6944 linen 906 tunic 3801, and the linen 906 undergarments 4370 shall be next 5921 to his body 1320, and he shall be girded 2296 with the linen 906 sash 73 and attired 6801 with the linen 906 turban 4701 (these 1992a are holy 6944 garments 899b). Then he shall bathe 7364 his body 1320 in water 4325 and put 3847 them on.

 16:5 “He shall take 3947 from the congregation 5712 of the sons 1121 of Israel 3478 two 8147 male 8163b goats 5795 for a sin 2403b offering 2403b and one 259 ram 352a for a burnt 5930a offering 5930a.

 16:6 “Then Aaron 175 shall offer 7126 the bull 6499 for the sin 2403b offering 2403b which 834 is for himself, that he may make 3722a atonement 3722a for himself and for his household 1004.

 16:7 “He shall take 3947 the two 8147 goats 8163b and present 5975 them before 6440 the LORD 3068 at the doorway 6607 of the tent 168 of meeting 4150.

 16:8 “Aaron 175 shall cast 5414 lots 1486 for the two 8147 goats 8163b, one 259 lot 1486 for the LORD 3068 and the other 259 lot 1486 for the scapegoat 5799.

 16:9 “Then Aaron 175 shall offer 7126 the goat 5795 on which 834 the lot 1486 for the LORD 3068 fell 5927, and make 6213a it a sin 2403b offering 2403b.

 16:10 “But the goat 5795 on which 834 the lot 1486 for the scapegoat 5799 fell 5927 shall be presented 5975 alive 2416a before 6440 the LORD 3068, to make 3722a atonement 3722a upon it, to send 7971 it into the wilderness 4057b as the scapegoat 5799.

 16:11 ¶ “Then Aaron 175 shall offer 7126 the bull 6499 of the sin 2403b offering 2403b which 834 is for himself and make 3722a atonement 3722a for himself and for his household 1004, and he shall slaughter 7819 the bull 6499 of the sin 2403b offering 2403b which 834 is for himself.

 16:12 “He shall take 3947 a firepan 4289 full 4393 of coals 1513 of fire 784 from upon the altar 4196 before 4480 6440 the LORD 3068 and two handfuls 4393 2651 of finely 1851 ground 1851 sweet 5561 incense 7004, and bring 935 [it] inside 4480 1004 the veil 6532.

 16:13 “He shall put 5414 the incense 7004 on the fire 784 before 6440 the LORD 3068, that the cloud 6051 of incense 7004 may cover 3680 the mercy 3727 seat 3727 that is on [the ark of] the testimony 5715, otherwise 3808 he will die 4191.

 16:14 “Moreover, he shall take 3947 some 4480 of the blood 1818 of the bull 6499 and sprinkle 5137a [it] with his finger 676 on the mercy 3727 seat 3727 on the east 6924b [side]; also in front 6440 of the mercy 3727 seat 3727 he shall sprinkle 5137a some 4480 of the blood 1818 with his finger 676 seven 7651 times 6471.

 16:15 ¶ “Then he shall slaughter 7819 the goat 5795 of the sin 2403b offering 2403b which 834 is for the people 5971a, and bring 935 its blood 1818 inside 413 4480 1004 the veil 6532 and do 6213a with its blood 1818 as he did 6213a with the blood 1818 of the bull 6499, and sprinkle 5137a it on the mercy 3727 seat 3727 and in front 6440 of the mercy 3727 seat 3727.

 16:16 “He shall make 3722a atonement 3722a for the holy 6944 place, because 4480 of the impurities 2932a of the sons 1121 of Israel 3478 and because 4480 of their transgressions 6588 in regard to all 3605 their sins 2403b; and thus 3651 he shall do 6213a for the tent 168 of meeting 4150 which abides 7931 with them in the midst 8432 of their impurities 2932a.

 16:17 “When he goes 935 in to make 3722a atonement 3722a in the holy 6944 place, no 3808 one 120 shall be in the tent 168 of meeting 4150 until 5704 he comes 3318 out, that he may make 3722a atonement 3722a for himself and for his household 1004 and for all 3605 the assembly 6951 of Israel 3478.

 16:18 “Then he shall go 3318 out to the altar 4196 that is before 6440 the LORD 3068 and make 3722a atonement 3722a for it, and shall take 3947 some 4480 of the blood 1818 of the bull 6499 and of the blood 1818 of the goat 5795 and put 5414 it on the horns 7161 of the altar 4196 on all 5439 sides 5439.

 16:19 “With his finger 676 he shall sprinkle 5137a some 4480 of the blood 1818 on it seven 7651 times 6471 and cleanse 2891 it, and from the impurities 2932a of the sons 1121 of Israel 3478 consecrate 6942 it.

 16:20 ¶ “When he finishes 3615 atoning 3722a for the holy 6944 place and the tent 168 of meeting 4150 and the altar 4196, he shall offer 7126 the live 2416a goat 5795.

 16:21 “Then Aaron 175 shall lay 5564 both 8147 of his hands 3027 on the head 7218 of the live 2416a goat 5795, and confess 3034 over 5921 it all 3605 the iniquities 5771 of the sons 1121 of Israel 3478 and all 3605 their transgressions 6588 in regard to all 3605 their sins 2403b; and he shall lay 5414 them on the head 7218 of the goat 5795 and send 7971 [it] away 7971 into the wilderness 4057b by the hand 3027 of a man 376 who [stands] in readiness 6261.

 16:22 “The goat 5795 shall bear 5375 on itself all 3605 their iniquities 5771 to a solitary 1509 land 776; and he shall release 7971 the goat 8163b in the wilderness 4057b.

 16:23 ¶ “Then Aaron 175 shall come 935 into the tent 168 of meeting 4150 and take 6584 off 6584 the linen 906 garments 899b which 834 he put 3847 on when he went 935 into the holy 6944 place, and shall leave 5117 them there 8033.

 16:24 “He shall bathe 7364 his body 1320 with water 4325 in a holy 6918 place 4725 and put 3847 on his clothes 899b, and come 3318 forth 3318 and offer 6213a his burnt 5930a offering 5930a and the burnt 5930a offering 5930a of the people 5971a and make 3722a atonement 3722a for himself and for the people 5971a.

 16:25 “Then he shall offer 6999 up in smoke 6999 the fat 2459 of the sin 2403b offering 2403b on the altar 4196.

 16:26 “The one who released 7971 the goat 8163b as the scapegoat 5799 shall wash 3526 his clothes 899b and bathe 7364 his body 1320 with water 4325; then afterward 310 3651 he shall come 935 into the camp 4264.

 16:27 “But the bull 6499 of the sin 2403b offering 2403b and the goat 8163b of the sin 2403b offering 2403b, whose 834 blood 1818 was brought 935 in to make 3722a atonement 3722a in the holy 6944 place, shall be taken 3318 outside 413 4480 2351 the camp 4264, and they shall burn 8313 their hides 5785, their flesh 1320, and their refuse 6569 in the fire 784.

 16:28 “Then the one who burns 8313 them shall wash 3526 his clothes 899b and bathe 7364 his body 1320 with water 4325, then afterward 310 3651 he shall come 935 into the camp 4264.

 16:29 ¶ “[This] shall be a permanent 5769 statute 2708 for you: in the seventh 7637 month 2320, on the tenth 6218 day of the month 2320, you shall humble 6031a your souls 5315 and not do 6213a any 3605 work 4399, whether the native 249, or the alien 1616 who sojourns 1481a among 8432 you;

 16:30 for it is on this 2088 day 3117 that atonement 3722a shall be made 3722a for you to cleanse 2891 you; you will be clean 2891 from all 3605 your sins 2403b before 6440 the LORD 3068.

 16:31 “It is to be a sabbath 7676 of solemn 7677 rest 7677 for you, that you may humble 6031a your souls 5315; it is a permanent 5769 statute 2708.

 16:32 “So the priest 3548 who 834 is anointed 4886 and ordained 4390 3027 to serve 3547 as priest 3547 in his father’s 1 place 8478 shall make 3722a atonement 3722a: he shall thus put 3847 on the linen 906 garments 899b, the holy 6944 garments 899b,

 16:33 and make 3722a atonement 3722a for the holy 6944 sanctuary 4720, and he shall make 3722a atonement 3722a for the tent 168 of meeting 4150 and for the altar 4196. He shall also make 3722a atonement 3722a for the priests 3548 and for all 3605 the people 5971a of the assembly 6951.

 16:34 “Now you shall have 1961 this 2088 as a permanent 5769 statute 2708, to make 3722a atonement 3722a for the sons 1121 of Israel 3478 for all 3605 their sins 2403b once 259 every year 8141.” And just 3512c as the LORD 3068 had commanded 6680 Moses 4872, [so] he did 6213a.
