 9:1 ¶ Am I not free? Am I not an apostle? Have I not seen Jesus our Lord? Are not ye my work in the Lord?

 9:1 ¶ Amºº I notº an apostle?º amºº I notº free?º have I notº seenºº Jesusº Christº ourº Lord?º areºº notº yeº myº workº inº the Lord?º

 9:2 If to others I am not an apostle, yet at least I am to you; for the seal of mine apostleship are ye in the Lord.

 9:2 Ifº I beºº notº an apostleº unto others,º yetº doubtlessº I amºº to you:ºº forº theº sealº of mineº apostleshipº areºº yeº inº the Lord.º

 9:3 My defence to them that examine me is this.

 9:3 Mineº answerº to them that do examineºº meº isºº this,º

 9:4 Have we no right to eat and to drink?

 9:4 Haveº weºº notº powerº to eatºº andº to drink?ºº

 9:5 Have we no right to lead about a wife that is a believer, even as the rest of the apostles, and the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas?

 9:5 Haveº weºº notº powerº to lead aboutºº a sister,º a wife,º as well asºº otherº apostles,º andº [as] theº brethrenº of theº Lord,º andº Cephas?º

 9:6 Or I only and Barnabas, have we not a right to forbear working?

 9:6 Orº Iº onlyº andº Barnabas,º haveºº notº weºº powerº to forbearº working?ººº

 9:7 What soldier ever serveth at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not the fruit thereof? Or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock?

 9:7 Whoº goeth a warfareºº any timeº atº his ownº charges?º whoº plantethºº a vineyard,º andº eatethºº notº ofº theº fruitº thereof?ºº orº whoº feedethºº a flock,º andº eatethºº notº ofº theº milkº of theº flock?º

 9:8 Do I speak these things after the manner of men? or saith not the law also the same?

 9:8 Sayº Iºº these thingsºº asºº a man?º orº saithºº notº theº lawº theº sameº also?º

 9:9 For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox when he treadeth out the corn. Is it for the oxen that God careth,

 9:9 Forº it is writtenºº inº theº lawº of Moses,º Thou shaltºº notº muzzleºº the mouth of the oxº that treadeth out the corn.ººº Dothººº Godº take careºº for oxen?º

 9:10 or saith he it assuredly for our sake? Yea, for our sake it was written: because he that ploweth ought to plow in hope, and he that thresheth, [to thresh] in hope of partaking.

 9:10 Orº saithº heºº [it] altogetherº forºº ourº sakes?ºº Forºº ourº sakes,ºº no doubt,º [this] is written:ºº thatº he that plowethºº shouldºº plowºº inº hope;º andº that he that threshethºº inº hopeº should be partakerºº ofº hisºº hope.º

 9:11 If we sowed unto you spiritual things, is it a great matter if we shall reap your carnal things?

 9:11 Ifº weº have sownºº unto youº spiritual things,º [is it] a great thingº ifº weº shall reapºº yourº carnal things?º

 9:12 If others partake of [this] right over you, do not we yet more? Nevertheless we did not use this right; but we bear all things, that we may cause no hindrance to the gospel of Christ.

 9:12 Ifº othersº be partakersºº of [this] powerº over you,º [are] notº weº rather?º Neverthelessº we haveºº notº usedºº thisº power;º butº sufferºº all things,º lestº we shouldººº hinderººº theº gospelº of Christ.º

 9:13 Know ye not that they that minister about sacred things eat [of] the things of the temple, [and] they that wait upon the altar have their portion with the altar?

 9:13 Do yeºº notº knowºº thatº they which ministerºº about holy thingsº liveºº [of the things] ofº theº temple?º and they which waitºº at theº altarº are partakersºº withº theº altar?º

 9:14 Even so did the Lord ordain that they that proclaim the gospel should live of the gospel.

 9:14 Evenº soº hathºº theº Lordº ordainedºº that they which preachºº theº gospelº should liveºº ofº theº gospel.º

 9:15 But I have used none of these things: and I write not these things that it may be so done in my case; for [it were] good for me rather to die, than that any man should make my glorifying void.

 9:15 Butº Iº have usedºº noneº of these things:ºº neitherºº have I writtenºº these things,º thatº it should beºº soº doneºº untoº me:º forº [it were] betterºº for meº toº die,ººº thanº thatº any manº should makeºº myº gloryingº void.ºººº

 9:16 For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of; for necessity is laid upon me; for woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel.

 9:16 Forº thoughº I preach the gospel,ºº Iº haveºº nothingº to glory of:º forº necessityº is laid uponºº me;º yea,º woeº isºº unto me,º ifººº I preachºº notº the gospel!ººº

 9:17 For if I do this of mine own will, I have a reward: but if not of mine own will, I have a stewardship intrusted to me.

 9:17 Forº ifº I doºº this thingº willingly,º I haveºº a reward:º butº ifº against my will,º a dispensationº [of the gospel] is committedº unto me.ºº

 9:18 What then is my reward? That, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel without charge, so as not to use to the full my right in the gospel.

 9:18 Whatº isºº myº rewardº then?º [Verily] that,º when I preach the gospel,ºº I may makeºº theº gospelº of Christº without charge,º thatº I abuseºº notº myº powerº inº theº gospel.º

 9:19 For though I was free from all [men], I brought myself under bondage to all, that I might gain the more.

 9:19 Forº though I beºº freeº fromº allº [men], yet have I madeºº myselfº servantººº unto all,º thatº I might gainºº theº more.º

 9:20 And to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, not being myself under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law;

 9:20 Andº unto theº Jewsº I becameºº asº a Jew,º thatº I might gainºº the Jews;º to themº that are underº the law,º asº underº the law,º thatº I might gainºº themº that are underº the law;º

 9:21 to them that are without law, as without law, not being without law to God, but under law to Christ, that I might gain them that are without law.

 9:21 To them that are without law,º asº without law,º (beingºº notº without lawº to God,º butº under the lawº to Christ,)º thatº I might gainºº them that are without law.º

 9:22 To the weak I became weak, that I might gain the weak: I am become all things to all men, that I may by all means save some.

 9:22 To theº weakº becameº Iºº asº weak,º thatº I might gainºº theº weak:º I am madeºº all thingsº to allº [men], thatº I mightºº by all meansº saveºº some.º

 9:23 And I do all things for the gospel's sake, that I may be a joint partaker thereof.

 9:23 Andº thisº I doºº forºº the gospel'sº sake,ººº thatº I might beºº partakerºº thereofº withºº [you].

 9:24 Know ye not that they that run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? Even so run; that ye may attain.

 9:24 Knowº yeºº notº thatº they which runºº inº a raceº runºº all,ºº butº oneº receivethºº theº prize?º Soº run,ºº thatº ye may obtain.ºº

 9:25 And every man that striveth in the games exerciseth self-control in all things. Now they [do it] to receive a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.

 9:25 Andº every manº that striveth for the masteryºº is temperateºº in all things.ºº Nowº theyº [do it]º toº obtainºº a corruptibleº crown;º butº weº an incorruptible.º

 9:26 I therefore so run, as not uncertainly; so fight I, as not beating the air:

 9:26 Iº thereforeº soº run,ºº notº asº uncertainly;º soº fightº I,ºº notº asº one that beatethºº the air:º

 9:27 but I buffet my body, and bring it into bondage: lest by any means, after that I have preached to others, I myself should be rejected.

 9:27 Butº I keep underºº myº body,º andº bring [it] into subjection:ºº lest that by any means,ºº when I have preachedºº to others,º I myselfºº should beºº a castaway.º
