 1:1 ¶ And Solomon the son of David was established over his kingdom, and the Lord his God was with him, and increased him exceedingly.

 1:1 ¶ And Solomonº the sonº of Davidº was strengthenedºº inº his kingdom,º and Yahwehº his Elohimº [was] withº him, and magnifiedºº him exceedingly.º

 1:2 And Solomon spoke to all Israel, to the captains of thousands, and to the captains of hundreds, and to the judges, and to all the rulers over Israel, even the heads of the families;

 1:2 Then Solomonº spakeºº unto allº Israel,º to the captainsº of thousandsº and of hundreds,º and to the judges,ºº and to everyº governorº in allº Israel,º the chiefº of the fathers.º

 1:3 and Solomon and all the congregation went to the high place that was in Gibeon{gr.Gabaon}, where was God's tabernacle of witness, which Mosheh{gr.Moses} the servant of the Lord made in the wilderness.

 1:3 So Solomon,º and allº the congregationº withº him, wentººº to the high placeº thatº [was] at Gibeon;º forº thereº wasº the tabernacleº of the congregationº of Elohim,º whichº Mosesº the servantº of Yahwehº had madeºº in the wilderness.º

 1:4 But David had brought up the ark of God out of the city of Kirjathjearim{gr.Cariathiarim}; for David had prepared a place for it, for he had pitched a tabernacle for it in Jerusalem.

 1:4 Butº the arkº of Elohimº had Davidº brought upºº from Kirjathjearimºº to [the place which] Davidº had preparedºº for it: forº he had pitchedºº a tentº for it at Jerusalem.º

 1:5 And the brazen altar which Bezaleel{gr.Beseleel} the son of Uriah{gr.Urias}, the son of Or, had made, was there before the tabernacle of the Lord: and Solomon and the congregation enquired at it.

 1:5 Moreover the brasenº altar,º thatº Bezaleelº the sonº of Uri,º the sonº of Hur,º had made,ºº he putºº beforeº the tabernacleº of Yahweh:º and Solomonº and the congregationº soughtºº unto it.

 1:6 And Solomon brought [victims] thither to the brazen altar that was before the Lord in the tabernacle, and offered upon it a thousand whole-burnt-offerings.

 1:6 And Solomonº went upºº thitherº toº the brasenº altarº beforeº Yahweh,º whichº [was] at the tabernacleº of the congregation,º and offeredºº a thousandº burnt offeringsº uponº it.

 1:7 ¶ In that night God appeared to Solomon, and said to him, Ask what I shall give thee.

 1:7 ¶ In thatº nightº did Elohimº appearºº unto Solomon,º and saidºº unto him, Askºº whatº I shall giveºº thee.

 1:8 And Solomon said to God, Thou hast dealt very mercifully with my father David, and hast made me king in his stead.

 1:8 And Solomonº saidºº unto Elohim,º Thouº hast shewedºº greatº mercyº untoº Davidº my father,º and hast made me to reignºº in his stead.º

 1:9 And now, O Lord God, let, I pray thee, thy name be established upon David my father; for thou hast made me king over a people numerous as the dust of the earth.

 1:9 Now,º O Yahwehº Elohim,º let thy promiseº untoº Davidº my fatherº be established:ºº forº thouº hast made me kingºº overº a peopleº like the dustº of the earthº in multitude.º

 1:10 Now give me wisdom and understanding, that I may go out and come in before this people: for who shall judge this thy great people?

 1:10 Giveºº me nowº wisdomº and knowledge,º that I may go outºº and come inºº beforeº thisº people:º forº whoº can judgeºº thisºº thy people,º [that is so] great?º

 1:11 And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thy heart, and thou hast not asked great wealth, nor glory, nor the life of thine enemies, and thou hast not asked long life; but hast asked for thyself wisdom and understanding, that thou mightest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king:

 1:11 And Elohimº saidºº to Solomon,º Becauseºº thisº wasº inº thine heart,º and thou hast notº askedºº riches,º wealth,º or honour,º nor the lifeº of thine enemies,ºº neitherº yetº hast askedºº longº life;ºº but hast askedºº wisdomº and knowledgeº for thyself, thatº thou mayest judgeººº my people,º overº whomº I have made thee king:ºº

 1:12 I give thee this wisdom and understanding; and I will give thee wealth, and riches, and glory, so that there shall not have been [any] like thee among the kings before thee, neither shall there be such after thee.

 1:12 Wisdomº and knowledgeº [is] grantedºº unto thee; and I will giveºº thee riches,º and wealth,º and honour,º such asºº noneº of the kingsº have hadº thatº [have been] beforeº thee, neitherº shall there any afterº thee haveº the like.º

 1:13 ¶ And Solomon came from the high place that was in Gibeon{gr.Gabaon} to Jerusalem, [from] before the tabernacle of witness, and reigned over Israel.

 1:13 ¶ Then Solomonº cameºº [from his journey] to the high placeº thatº [was] at Gibeonº to Jerusalem,º from beforeºº the tabernacleº of the congregation,º and reignedºº overº Israel.º

 1:14 And Solomon collected chariots and horsemen: and he had fourteen hundred chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen: and he set them in the cities of chariots, and the people [were] with the king in Jerusalem.

 1:14 And Solomonº gatheredºº chariotsº and horsemen:º and he hadº a thousandº and fourº hundredº chariots,º and twelveºº thousandº horsemen,º which he placedººº in the chariotº cities,º and withº the kingº at Jerusalem.º

 1:15 And the king made silver and gold in Jerusalem [to be] as stones, and cedars in Judah{gr.Judea} as sycamores in the plain for multitude.

 1:15 And the kingº madeººº silverº and goldº at Jerusalemº [as plenteous] as stones,º and cedar treesº madeºº he as the sycomore treesº thatº [are] in the valeº for abundance.º

 1:16 And Solomon imported horses from Mizraim{gr.Egypt}, and the charge of the king's merchants for going [was as follows], and they traded,

 1:16 And Solomonº had horsesº broughtº outº of Egypt,ºº and linen yarn:º the king'sº merchantsºº receivedºº the linen yarnº at a price.º

 1:17 and went and brought out of Mizraim{gr.Egypt} a chariot for six hundred [pieces] of silver, and a horse for a hundred and fifty [pieces] of silver: and so they brought for all the kings of the Hittites{gr.Chettites}, and for the kings of Syria by their means.

 1:17 And they fetched up,ºº and brought forthºº out of Egyptºº a chariotº for sixº hundredº [shekels] of silver,º and an horseº for an hundredº and fifty:º and soº brought they outºº [horses] for allº the kingsº of the Hittites,º and for the kingsº of Syria,º by their means.º
