 28:1 ¶
Ahaz{gr.Achaz} was five and twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem: and he did not that which was right in the sight of the Lord, as David his father. |
|
 28:1 ¶
Ahazº
[was] twentyº
yearsº
oldº
when he began to reign,ºº
and he reignedºº
sixteenºº
yearsº
in Jerusalem:º
but he didºº
notº
[that which was] rightº
in the sightº
of Yahweh,º
like Davidº
his father:º |
 28:2
But he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, for he made graven images. |
|
 28:2
For he walkedº
inºº
the waysº
of the kingsº
of Israel,º
and madeºº
alsoº
molten imagesº
for Baalim.º |
 28:3
And [he sacrificed] to their idols in the valley of Benennom, and passed his children through the fire, according to the abominations of the heathen, whom the Lord cast out from before the children of Israel. |
|
 28:3
Moreover heº
burnt incenseºº
in the valleyº
of the sonº
of Hinnom,º
and burntººº
his childrenº
in the fire,º
after the abominationsº
of the heathenº
whomº
Yahwehº
had cast outºº
beforeºº
the childrenº
of Israel.º |
 28:4
And he burnt incense upon the high places, and upon the roofs, and under every shady tree. |
|
 28:4
He sacrificedºº
also and burnt incenseºº
in the high places,º
and onº
the hills,º
and underº
everyº
greenº
tree.º |
 28:5
And the Lord his God delivered him into the hand of the king of Syria; and he smote him, and took captive of them a great band of prisoners, and carried him to Damascus. Also [God] delivered him into the hands of the king of Israel, who smote him with a great slaughter. |
|
 28:5
Wherefore Yahwehº
his Elohimº
deliveredºº
him into the handº
of the kingº
of Syria;º
and they smoteºº
him, and carried awayºº
a greatº
multitudeº
ofº
them captives,º
and broughtºº
[them] to Damascus.º
And he was alsoº
deliveredºº
into the handº
of the kingº
of Israel,º
who smoteºº
him with a greatº
slaughter.º |
 28:6 ¶
And Pekah{gr.Phakee} the son of Remaliah{gr.Romelias} king of Israel, slew in Judah{gr.Juda} in one day a hundred and twenty thousand mighty men; because they had forsaken the Lord God of their fathers. |
|
 28:6 ¶
For Pekahº
the sonº
of Remaliahº
slewºº
in Judahº
an hundredº
and twentyº
thousandº
in oneº
day,º
[which were] allº
valiantº
men;ºº
because they had forsakenººº
Yahwehº
Elohimº
of their fathers.º |
 28:7
And Zichri{gr.Zechri}, a mighty man of Ephraim, slew Maaseiah{gr.Maasias} the king's son, and Ezrican the chief of his house, and Elcana the king's deputy. |
|
 28:7
And Zichri,º
a mighty manº
of Ephraim,º
slewººº
Maaseiahº
the king'sº
son,º
and Azrikamº
the governorº
of the house,º
and Elkanahº
[that was] nextº
to the king.º |
 28:8
And the children of Israel took captive of their brethren three hundred thousand, women, and sons, and daughters, and they spoiled them of much property, and brought the spoils to Samaria. |
|
 28:8
And the childrenº
of Israelº
carried away captiveºº
of their brethrenºº
two hundredº
thousand,º
women,º
sons,º
and daughters,º
and took also awayººº
muchº
spoilº
fromº
them, and broughtººº
the spoilº
to Samaria.º |
 28:9
And there was there a prophet of the Lord, his name [was] Oded: and he went out to meet the host that were coming to Samaria, and said to them, Behold, the wrath of the Lord God of your fathers [is] upon Judah{gr.Juda}, and he has delivered them into your hands, and ye have slain them in wrath, and it has reached even to heaven. |
|
 28:9
But a prophetº
of Yahwehº
wasº
there,º
whose nameº
[was] Oded:º
and he went outºº
beforeº
the hostº
that cameºº
to Samaria,º
and saidºº
unto them, Behold,º
because Yahwehº
Elohimº
of your fathersº
was wrothº
withº
Judah,º
he hath deliveredºº
them into your hand,º
and ye have slainºº
them in a rageº
[that] reacheth upºº
untoº
heaven.º |
 28:10
And now ye talk of keeping the children of Judah{gr.Juda} and Jerusalem for servants and handmaidens. Lo, am I not with you to testify for the Lord your God? |
|
 28:10
And nowº
yeº
purposeºº
to keep underºº
the childrenº
of Judahº
and Jerusalemº
for bondmenº
and bondwomenº
unto you: [but are there] notº
withº
you, evenº
with you,º
sinsº
against Yahwehº
your Elohim?º |
 28:11
And now hearken to me, and restore the prisoners of your brethren whom ye have taken: for the fierce anger of the Lord [is] upon you. |
|
 28:11
Nowº
hearºº
me therefore, and deliverºº
the captivesº
again, whichº
ye have taken captiveºº
of your brethren:ºº
forº
the fierceº
wrathº
of Yahwehº
[is] uponº
you. |
 28:12
And the chiefs of the sons of Ephraim rose up, Udias the son of Joanas, and Berechiah{gr.Barachias} the son of Mosolamoth, and Hezekiah{gr.Ezekias} the son of Shallum{gr.Sellem}, and Amaziah{gr.Amasias} the son of Eldai, against those that came from the war, |
|
 28:12
Then certainºº
of the headsºº
of the childrenº
of Ephraim,º
Azariahº
the sonº
of Johanan,º
Berechiahº
the sonº
of Meshillemoth,º
and Jehizkiahº
the sonº
of Shallum,º
and Amasaº
the sonº
of Hadlai,º
stood upºº
againstº
them that cameºº
fromº
the war,º |
 28:13
and said to them, Ye shall not bring in hither the prisoners to us, for whereas sin against the Lord [is] upon us, ye mean to add to our sins, and to our trespass: for our sin [is] great, and the fierce anger of the Lord [is] upon Israel. |
|
 28:13
And saidºº
unto them, Ye shall notº
bring inººº
the captivesº
hither:º
for whereasº
we have offendedº
againstºº
Yahwehº
[already], yeº
intendºº
to addºº
[more] toº
our sinsº
and toº
our trespass:º
forº
our trespassº
is great,º
and [there is] fierceº
wrathº
againstº
Israel.º |
 28:14
So the warriors left the prisoners and the spoils before the princes and all the congregation. |
|
 28:14
So the armed menºº
leftººº
the captivesº
and the spoilº
beforeº
the princesº
and allº
the congregation.º |
 28:15
And the men who were called by name rose up, and took hold of the prisoners, and clothed all the naked from the spoils, and gave them garments and shoes, and gave them [food] to eat, and [oil] to anoint themselves [with], and they helped also every one that was weak with asses, and placed them in Jericho, the city of palm-trees, with their brethren; and they returned to Samaria. |
|
 28:15
And the menºº
whichº
were expressedºº
by nameº
rose up,ºº
and tookºº
the captives,º
and withº
the spoilº
clothedºº
allº
that were nakedº
among them, and arrayedºº
them, and shodºº
them, and gave them to eatºº
and to drink,ºº
and anointedºº
them, and carriedºº
allº
the feebleºº
of them upon asses,º
and broughtºº
them to Jericho,º
the cityº
of palm trees,ººº
toº
their brethren:º
then they returnedºº
to Samaria.º |
 28:16 ¶
At that time king Ahaz{gr.Achaz} sent to the king of Assyria to help him, and on this occasion, |
|
 28:16 ¶
At thatº
timeº
did kingº
Ahazº
sendºº
untoº
the kingsº
of Assyriaº
to helpºº
him. |
 28:17
because the Edomites{gr.Idumeans} had attacked [him], and smitten Judah{gr.Juda}, and taken a number of prisoners. |
|
 28:17
For againº
the Edomitesº
had comeºº
and smittenºº
Judah,º
and carried awayºº
captives.º |
 28:18
Also the Philistines had made an attack on the cities of the plain country, and the cities of the south of Judah{gr.Juda}, and taken Bethshemesh{gr.Baethsamys}, and [the things in the house of the Lord, and the things in the house of the king, and of the princes: and they gave to the king] Aijalon{gr.Aelon}, and Galero, and Socho and her villages, and Timnath{gr.Thamna} and her villages, and Gamzo and her villages: and they dwelt there. |
|
 28:18
The Philistinesº
also had invadedºº
the citiesº
of the low country,º
and of the southº
of Judah,º
and had takenººº
Bethshemesh,º
and Ajalon,º
and Gederoth,º
and Shochoº
with the villagesº
thereof, and Timnahº
with the villagesº
thereof, Gimzoº
also and the villagesº
thereof: and they dweltºº
there.º |
 28:19
For the Lord humbled Judah{gr.Juda} because of Ahaz{gr.Achaz} king of Judah{gr.Juda}, because he grievously departed from the Lord. |
|
 28:19
Forº
Yahwehº
broughtººº
Judahº
lowºº
because ofº
Ahazº
kingº
of Israel;º
forº
he madeºº
Judahº
naked,ººº
and transgressedºº
soreº
against Yahweh.º |
 28:20
And there came against him Thalgaphellasar king of Assyria, and he afflicted him. |
|
 28:20
And Tilgathpilneserº
kingº
of Assyriaº
cameºº
untoº
him, and distressedºº
him, but strengthenedºº
him not.º |
 28:21
And Ahaz{gr.Achaz} took the things [that were] in the house of the Lord, and the things in the house of the king, and of the princes, and gave them to the king of Assyria: but he was no help to him, |
|
 28:21
Forº
Ahazº
took away a portionºº
[out] ofº
the houseº
of Yahweh,º
and [out] of the houseº
of the king,º
and of the princes,º
and gaveºº
[it] unto the kingº
of Assyria:º
but he helpedº
him not.º |
 28:22 ¶
but only [troubled him] in his affliction: and he departed yet more from the Lord, and king Ahaz{gr.Achaz} said, |
|
 28:22 ¶
And in the timeº
of his distressºº
did he trespassºº
yet moreºº
against Yahweh:º
thisº
[is that] kingº
Ahaz.º |
 28:23
I will seek after the gods of Damascus that smite me. And he said, Forasmuch as the gods of the king of Syria themselves strengthen them, therefore will I sacrifice to them, and they will help me. But they became a stumbling-block to him, and to all Israel. |
|
 28:23
For he sacrificedºº
unto the elohimº
of Damascus,º
which smoteºº
him: and he said,ºº
Becauseº
the elohimº
of the kingsº
of Syriaº
helpºº
them, [therefore] will I sacrificeºº
to them, that they may helpºº
me. But theyº
wereº
the ruinºº
of him, and of allº
Israel.º |
 28:24
And Ahaz{gr.Achaz} removed the vessels of the house of the Lord, and cut them in pieces, and shut the doors of the house of the Lord, and made to himself altars in every corner in Jerusalem: |
|
 28:24
And Ahazº
gathered togetherººº
the vesselsº
of the houseº
of Elohim,º
and cut in piecesººº
the vesselsº
of the houseº
of Elohim,º
and shut upººº
the doorsº
of the houseº
of Yahweh,º
and he madeºº
him altarsº
in everyº
cornerº
of Jerusalem.º |
 28:25
and in each several city in Judah{gr.Juda} he made high places to burn incense to strange gods: and they provoked the Lord God of their fathers. |
|
 28:25
And in everyº
several cityº
of Judahº
he madeºº
high placesº
to burn incenseºº
unto otherº
elohim,º
and provoked to angerººº
Yahwehº
Elohimº
of his fathers.º |
 28:26 ¶
And the rest of his acts, and his deeds, the first and the last, behold, [they are] written in the book of the kings of Judah{gr.Juda} and Israel. |
|
 28:26 ¶
Now the restº
of his actsº
and of allº
his ways,º
firstº
and last,º
behold,º
they [are] writtenºº
inº
the bookº
of the kingsº
of Judahº
and Israel.º |
 28:27
And Ahaz{gr.Achaz} slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David; for they did not bring him into the sepulchres of the kings of Israel: and Hezekiah{gr.Ezekias} his son reigned in his stead. |
|
 28:27
And Ahazº
sleptºº
withº
his fathers,º
and they buriedºº
him in the city,º
[even] in Jerusalem:º
butº
they broughtºº
him notº
into the sepulchresº
of the kingsº
of Israel:º
and Hezekiahº
his sonº
reignedºº
in his stead.º |
