 18:1 ¶
And Jehoshaphat{gr.Josaphat} had yet great wealth and glory, and he connected himself by marriage with the house of Ahab{gr.Achaab}. |
|
 18:1 ¶
Now Jehoshaphatº
hadº
richesº
and honourº
in abundance,º
and joined affinityºº
with Ahab.º |
 18:2
And he went down after a term of years to Ahab{gr.Achaab} to Samaria: and Ahab{gr.Achaab} slew for him sheep and calves, in abundance, and for the people with him, and he much desired him to go up with him to Ramoth of the country of Gilead{gr.Galaad}. |
|
 18:2
And afterº
[certain] yearsº
he went downºº
toº
Ahabº
to Samaria.º
And Ahabº
killedºº
sheepº
and oxenº
for him in abundance,º
and for the peopleº
thatº
[he had] withº
him, and persuadedºº
him to go upºº
[with him] toº
Ramothgilead.ºº |
 18:3
And Ahab{gr.Achaab} king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat{gr.Josaphat} king of Judah{gr.Juda}, Wilt thou go with me to Ramoth of the country of Gilead{gr.Galaad}? And he said to him, As I [am], so also [art] thou, as thy people, [so] also [is] my people with thee for the war. |
|
 18:3
And Ahabº
kingº
of Israelº
saidºº
untoº
Jehoshaphatº
kingº
of Judah,º
Wilt thou goººº
withº
me to Ramothgilead?ºº
And he answeredºº
him, Iº
[am] as thouº
[art], and my peopleº
as thy people;º
and [we will be] withº
thee in the war.º |
 18:4 ¶
And Jehoshaphat{gr.Josaphat} said to the king of Israel, Seek, I pray thee, the Lord to-day. |
|
 18:4 ¶
And Jehoshaphatº
saidºº
untoº
the kingº
of Israel,º
Enquire,ºº
I pray thee,º
atº
the wordº
of Yahwehº
to day.º |
 18:5
And the king of Israel gathered the prophets, four hundred men, and said to them, Shall I go to Ramoth Gilead{gr.Galaad} to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, Go up, and God shall deliver [it] into the hands of the king. |
|
 18:5
Therefore the kingº
of Israelº
gathered togetherººº
of prophetsº
fourº
hundredº
men,º
and saidºº
untoº
them, Shall we goººº
toº
Ramothgileadºº
to battle,º
orº
shall I forbear?ºº
And they said,ºº
Go up;ºº
for Elohimº
will deliverºº
[it] into the king'sº
hand.º |
 18:6
And Jehoshaphat{gr.Josaphat} said, Is there not here a prophet of the Lord besides, that we may enquire of him? |
|
 18:6
But Jehoshaphatº
said,ºº
[Is there] notº
hereº
a prophetº
of Yahwehº
besides,º
that we might enquireºº
of him?ºº |
 18:7
And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat{gr.Josaphat}, There is yet one man by whom to enquire of the Lord; but I hate him, for he does not prophesy concerning me for good, for all his days [are] for evil: this [is] Micah{gr.Michaias} the son of Jembla. And Jehoshaphat{gr.Josaphat} said, Let not the king say so. |
|
 18:7
And the kingº
of Israelº
saidºº
untoº
Jehoshaphat,º
[There is] yetº
oneº
man,º
by whomºº
we may enquireºº
ofº
Yahweh:º
but Iº
hateºº
him; forº
he neverº
prophesiedºº
goodº
untoº
me, butº
alwaysºº
evil:º
the sameº
[is] Micaiahº
the sonº
of Imla.º
And Jehoshaphatº
said,ºº
Let notº
the kingº
sayºº
so.º |
 18:8
And the king called an eunuch, and said, [Fetch] quickly Micah{gr.Michaias} the son of Jembla. |
|
 18:8
And the kingº
of Israelº
calledºº
forº
oneº
[of his] officers,º
and said,ºº
Fetch quicklyºº
Micaiahº
the sonº
of Imla.º |
 18:9
And the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat{gr.Josaphat} king of Judah{gr.Juda} were sitting each on his throne, and clothed in their robes, sitting in the open space at the entrance of the gate of Samaria: and all the prophets were prophesying before them. |
|
 18:9
And the kingº
of Israelº
and Jehoshaphatº
kingº
of Judahº
satºº
eitherº
of them onº
his throne,º
clothedºº
in [their] robes,º
and they satºº
in a void placeº
at the entering inº
of the gateº
of Samaria;º
and allº
the prophetsº
prophesiedºº
beforeº
them. |
 18:10
And Zedekiah{gr.Sedekias} son of Canaan{gr.Chanaan} made for himself iron horns, and said, Thus saith the Lord, With these thou shalt thrust Syria until it be consumed. |
|
 18:10
And Zedekiahº
the sonº
of Chenaanahº
had madeºº
him hornsº
of iron,º
and said,ºº
Thusº
saithºº
Yahweh,º
With theseº
thou shalt pushººº
Syriaº
untilº
they be consumed.ºº |
 18:11
And all the prophets prophesied so, saying, Go up to Ramoth Gilead{gr.Galaad}, and thou shalt prosper; and the Lord shall deliver it into the hands of the king. |
|
 18:11
And allº
the prophetsº
prophesiedºº
so,º
saying,ºº
Go upºº
to Ramothgilead,ºº
and prosper:ºº
for Yahwehº
shall deliverºº
[it] into the handº
of the king.º |
 18:12
And the messenger that went to call Micah{gr.Michaias} spoke to him, saying, Behold, the prophets have spoken favourably concerning the king with one mouth; let now, I pray thee, thy words be as [the words] of one of them, and do thou speak good things. |
|
 18:12
And the messengerº
thatº
wentºº
to callºº
Micaiahº
spakeºº
toº
him, saying,ºº
Behold,º
the wordsº
of the prophetsº
[declare] goodº
toº
the kingº
with oneº
assent;º
let thy wordº
therefore, I pray thee,º
beº
like oneº
ofº
theirs, and speakºº
thou good.º |
 18:13
And Micah{gr.Michaias} said, [As] the Lord lives, whatever God shall say to me, that will I speak. |
|
 18:13
And Micaiahº
said,ºº
[As] Yahwehº
liveth,º
evenºº
whatº
my Elohimº
saith,ºº
that will I speak.ºº |
 18:14
And he came to the king, and the king said to him, Micah{gr.Michaias}, shall I go up to Ramoth Gilead{gr.Galaad} to battle, or shall I forbear? And he said, Go up, and thou shalt prosper, and they shall be given into your hands. |
|
 18:14
And when he was comeºº
toº
the king,º
the kingº
saidºº
untoº
him, Micaiah,º
shall we goººº
toº
Ramothgileadºº
to battle,º
orº
shall I forbear?ºº
And he said,ºº
Go ye up,ºº
and prosper,ºº
and they shall be deliveredºº
into your hand.º |
 18:15
And the king said to him, How often shall I solemnly charge thee that thou speak to me nothing but truth in the name of the Lord? |
|
 18:15
And the kingº
saidºº
toº
him, How manyºº
timesº
shall Iº
adjureºº
thee thatº
thou sayºº
nothingº
butº
the truthº
toº
me in the nameº
of Yahweh?º |
 18:16
And he said, I saw Israel scattered on the mountains, as sheep without a shepherd: and the Lord said, These have no commander; let each return to his home in peace. |
|
 18:16
Then he said,ºº
I did seeººº
allº
Israelº
scatteredºº
uponº
the mountains,º
as sheepº
thatº
have noº
shepherd:ºº
and Yahwehº
said,ºº
Theseº
have noº
adon;º
let them returnºº
[therefore] every manº
to his houseº
in peace.º |
 18:17
And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat{gr.Josaphat}, Said I not to thee, that he would not prophesy concerning me good, but evil? |
|
 18:17
And the kingº
of Israelº
saidºº
toº
Jehoshaphat,º
Did I notº
tellººº
thee [that] he would notº
prophesyºº
goodº
untoº
me, butºº
evil?º |
 18:18
But he said, Not so. Hear ye the word of the Lord: I saw the Lord sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven stood by on his right hand and on his left. |
|
 18:18
Again he said,ºº
Thereforeº
hearºº
the wordº
of Yahweh;º
I sawººº
Yahwehº
sittingºº
uponº
his throne,º
and allº
the hostº
of heavenº
standingºº
onº
his right handº
and [on] his left.º |
 18:19
And the Lord said, Who will deceive Ahab{gr.Achaab} king of Israel, that he may go up, and fall in Ramoth Gilead{gr.Galaad}? And one spoke this way, and another spoke that way. |
|
 18:19
And Yahwehº
said,ºº
Whoº
shall enticeººº
Ahabº
kingº
of Israel,º
that he may go upºº
and fallºº
at Ramothgilead?ºº
And oneº
spakeºº
sayingºº
after this manner,º
and anotherº
sayingºº
after that manner.º |
 18:20
And there came forth a spirit, and stood before the Lord, and said, I will deceive him. And the Lord said, Whereby? |
|
 18:20
Then there came outºº
a spirit,º
and stoodºº
beforeº
Yahweh,º
and said,ºº
Iº
will enticeºº
him. And Yahwehº
saidºº
untoº
him, Wherewith?º |
 18:21
And he said, I will go forth, and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And [the Lord] said, Thou shalt deceive [him], and shalt prevail: go forth, and do so. |
|
 18:21
And he said,ºº
I will go out,ºº
and beº
a lyingº
spiritº
in the mouthº
of allº
his prophets.º
And [Yahweh] said,ºº
Thou shalt enticeºº
[him], and thou shalt alsoº
prevail:ºº
go out,ºº
and doºº
[even] so.º |
 18:22
And now, behold, the Lord has put a false spirit in the mouth of these thy prophets, and the Lord has spoken evil against thee. |
|
 18:22
Nowº
therefore, behold,º
Yahwehº
hath putºº
a lyingº
spiritº
in the mouthº
of theseº
thy prophets,º
and Yahwehº
hath spokenºº
evilº
againstº
thee. |
 18:23
Then Zedekiah{gr.Sedekias} the son of Canaan{gr.Chanaan} drew near, and smote Micah{gr.Michaias} on the cheek, and said to him, By what way passed the Spirit of the Lord from me to speak to thee? |
|
 18:23
Then Zedekiahº
the sonº
of Chenaanahº
came near,ºº
and smoteººº
Micaiahº
uponº
the cheek,º
and said,ºº
Whichºº
wayº
wentºº
the Spiritº
of Yahwehº
fromºº
me to speakºº
untoº
thee? |
 18:24
And Micah{gr.Michaias} said, Behold, thou shalt see in that day, when thou shalt go from chamber to chamber to hide thyself. |
|
 18:24
And Micaiahº
said,ºº
Behold,º
thou shalt seeºº
on thatº
dayº
whenº
thou shalt goºº
into an innerº
chamberº
to hideºº
thyself.º |
 18:25
And the king of Israel said, Take Micah{gr.Michaias}, and carry him back to Emer the governor of the city, and to Joash{gr.Joas} the captain, the king's son; |
|
 18:25
Then the kingº
of Israelº
said,ºº
Takeºº
yeº
Micaiah,º
and carry him backºº
toº
Amonº
the governorº
of the city,º
and toº
Joashº
the king'sº
son;º |
 18:26
and ye shall say, Thus said the king, Put this fellow into the prison house, and let him eat the bread of affliction, and [drink] the water of affliction, until I return in peace. |
|
 18:26
And say,ºº
Thusº
saithºº
the king,º
Putºº
thisº
[fellow] in the prison,ºº
and feedºº
him with breadº
of afflictionº
and with waterº
of affliction,º
untilº
I returnºº
in peace.º |
 18:27
And Micah{gr.Michaias} said, If thou do at all return in peace, the Lord has not spoken by me. And he said, Hear, all ye people. |
|
 18:27
And Micaiahº
said,ºº
Ifº
thou certainlyºº
returnºº
in peace,º
[then] hath notº
Yahwehº
spokenºº
by me. And he said,ºº
Hearken,ºº
allº
ye people.º |
 18:28
So the king of Israel, and Jehoshaphat{gr.Josaphat} king of Judah{gr.Juda}, went up to Ramoth Gilead{gr.Galaad}. |
|
 18:28
So the kingº
of Israelº
and Jehoshaphatº
the kingº
of Judahº
went upºº
toº
Ramothgilead.ºº |
 18:29
And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat{gr.Josaphat}, Disguise me, and I will enter into the battle: and do thou put on my raiment. so the king of Israel disguised himself, and entered into the battle. |
|
 18:29
And the kingº
of Israelº
saidºº
untoº
Jehoshaphat,º
I will disguiseºº
myself,º
and will goºº
to the battle;º
but putºº
thou onºº
thy robes.º
So the kingº
of Israelº
disguisedºº
himself;º
and they wentºº
to the battle.º |
 18:30
Now the king of Syria had commanded the captains of the chariots that were with him, saying, Fight neither against small nor great, but only against the king of Israel. |
|
 18:30
Now the kingº
of Syriaº
had commandedººº
the captainsº
of the chariotsº
thatº
[were] with him, saying,ºº
Fightºº
ye notº
withº
smallº
orº
great,º
saveºº
onlyº
withº
the kingº
of Israel.º |
 18:31
And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat{gr.Josaphat}, that they said, It is the king of Israel: and they compassed him about to fight against him: and Jehoshaphat{gr.Josaphat} cried out, and the Lord delivered him; and God turned them away from him. |
|
 18:31
And it came to pass,º
when the captainsº
of the chariotsº
sawººº
Jehoshaphat,º
that theyº
said,ºº
Itº
[is] the kingº
of Israel.º
Therefore they compassedº
aboutººº
him to fight:ºº
but Jehoshaphatº
cried out,ºº
and Yahwehº
helpedºº
him; and Elohimº
movedºº
them [to depart] fromº
him. |
 18:32
And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw that it was not the king of Israel, that they turned away from him. |
|
 18:32
For it came to pass,º
that, when the captainsº
of the chariotsº
perceivedºº
thatº
it wasº
notº
the kingº
of Israel,º
they turned back againºº
from pursuingºº
him. |
 18:33
And a man drew a bow with a good aim, and smote the king of Israel between the lungs and the breast-plate: and he said to the charioteer, Turn thine hand, drive me out of the battle, for I am wounded. |
|
 18:33
And a [certain] manº
drewºº
a bowº
at a venture,º
and smoteººº
the kingº
of Israelº
betweenº
the jointsº
of the harness:º
therefore he saidºº
to his chariotº
man,ºº
Turnºº
thine hand,º
that thou mayest carry me outºº
ofº
the host;º
forº
I am wounded.ºº |
 18:34
And the battle turned in that day; and the king of Israel remained on the chariot against Syria until evening, and died at sunset. |
|
 18:34
And the battleº
increasedºº
thatº
day:º
howbeit the kingº
of Israelº
stayed [himself] upººº
in [his] chariotº
againstº
the Syriansº
untilº
the even:º
and about the timeº
of the sunº
going downºº
he died.ºº |
