 6:1 ¶ Then said Solomon, The Lord said that he would dwell in thick darkness.

 6:1 ¶ Thenº saidºº Solomon,º Yahwehº hath saidºº that he would dwellºº in the thick darkness.º

 6:2 But I have built a house to thy name, holy to thee, and prepared [for thee] to dwell in for ever.

 6:2 But Iº have builtºº an houseº of habitationº for thee, and a placeº for thy dwellingºº for ever.º

 6:3 And the king turned his face, and blessed all the congregation of Israel: and all the congregation of Israel stood by.

 6:3 And the kingº turnedººº his face,º and blessedººº the wholeº congregationº of Israel:º and allº the congregationº of Israelº stood.ºº

 6:4 And he said, Blessed [be] the Lord God of Israel: he has even fulfilled with his hands as he spoke with his mouth to my father David, saying,

 6:4 And he said,ºº Blessedºº [be] Yahwehº Elohimº of Israel,º who hath with his handsº fulfilledºº [that] whichº he spakeºº with his mouthº toº my fatherº David,º saying,ºº

 6:5 From the day when I brought up my people out of the land of Mizraim{gr.Egypt}, I chose no city of all the tribes of Israel, to build a house that my name should be there; neither did I choose a man to be a leader over my people Israel.

 6:5 Sinceº the dayº thatº I brought forthººº my peopleº out of the landºº of Egyptº I choseºº noº cityº among allºº the tribesº of Israelº to buildºº an houseº in, that my nameº might beº there;º neitherº choseºº I any manº to beº a rulerº overº my peopleº Israel:º

 6:6 But I chose Jerusalem that my name should be there; and I chose David to be over my people Israel.

 6:6 But I have chosenºº Jerusalem,º that my nameº might beº there;º and have chosenºº Davidº to beº overº my peopleº Israel.º

 6:7 And it came into the heart of David my father, to build a house for the name of the Lord God of Israel.

 6:7 Now it wasº inº the heartº of Davidº my fatherº to buildºº an houseº for the nameº of Yahwehº Elohimº of Israel.º

 6:8 But the Lord said to my father David, Whereas it came into thy heart to build a house for my name, thou didst well that it came into thy heart.

 6:8 But Yahwehº saidºº toº Davidº my father,º Forasmuchºº as it wasº inº thine heartº to buildºº an houseº for my name,º thou didst wellºº in thatº it wasº inº thine heart:º

 6:9 Nevertheless thou shalt not build the house; for thy son who shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house for my name.

 6:9 Notwithstandingº thouº shalt notº buildºº the house;º butº thy sonº which shall come forthºº out ofº thy loins,º heº shall buildºº the houseº for my name.º

 6:10 And the Lord has confirmed this word, which he spoke; and I am raised up in the room of my father David, and I sit upon the throne of Israel as the Lord said, and I have built the house for the name of the Lord God of Israel:

 6:10 Yahwehº therefore hath performedººº his wordº thatº he hath spoken:ºº for I am risen upºº in the roomº of Davidº my father,º and am setºº onº the throneº of Israel,º asº Yahwehº promised,ºº and have builtºº the houseº for the nameº of Yahwehº Elohimº of Israel.º

 6:11 and I have set there the ark in which [is] the covenant of the Lord, which he made with Israel.

 6:11 And in itº have I putººº the ark,º whereinºº [is] the covenantº of Yahweh,º thatº he madeºº withº the childrenº of Israel.º

 6:12 ¶ And he stood before the altar of the Lord in the presence of all the congregation of Israel, and spread out his hands.

 6:12 ¶ And he stoodºº beforeº the altarº of Yahwehº in the presence ofº allº the congregationº of Israel,º and spread forthºº his hands:º

 6:13 For Solomon [had] made a brazen scaffold, and set it in the midst of the court of the sanctuary; the length of it [was] five cubits, and the breadth of it five cubits, and the height of it three cubits: and he stood upon it, and fell upon his knees before the whole congregation of Israel, and spread abroad his hands to heaven,

 6:13 Forº Solomonº had madeºº a brasenº scaffold,º of fiveº cubitsº long,º and fiveº cubitsº broad,º and threeº cubitsº high,º and had setºº it in the midstº of the court:º and uponº it he stood,ºº and kneeled downºº uponº his kneesº beforeº allº the congregationº of Israel,º and spread forthºº his handsº toward heaven,º

 6:14 and said, Lord God of Israel, there is no God like thee in heaven, or on the earth; keeping covenant and mercy with thy servants that walk before thee with [their] whole heart.

 6:14 And said,ºº O Yahwehº Elohimº of Israel,º [there is] noº Elohimº like theeº in the heaven,º nor in the earth;º which keepestºº covenant,º and [shewest] mercyº unto thy servants,º that walkºº beforeº thee with allº their hearts:º

 6:15 Even as thou hast kept [them] with thy servant David my father, as thou hast spoken to him in words:-- thou hast both spoken with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled [it] with thy hands, as it is this day.

 6:15 Thou whichº hast keptºº with thy servantº Davidº my fatherºº that whichº thou hast promisedºº him; and spakestºº with thy mouth,º and hast fulfilledºº [it] with thine hand,º as [it is] thisº day.º

 6:16 And now, Lord God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father the things which thou spokest to him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man before me sitting on the throne of Israel, if only thy sons will take heed to their way to walk in my law, as thou didst walk before me.

 6:16 Nowº therefore, O Yahwehº Elohimº of Israel,º keepºº with thy servantº Davidº my fatherºº that whichº thou hast promisedºº him, saying,ºº There shall notº failºº thee a manº in my sightºº to sitºº uponº the throneº of Israel;º yet soº that thy childrenº take heedººº to their wayº to walkººº in my law,º asº thou hast walkedºº beforeº me.

 6:17 And now, Lord God of Israel, let, I pray thee, thy word be confirmed, which thou hast spoken to thy servant David.

 6:17 Nowº then, O Yahwehº Elohimº of Israel,º let thy wordº be verified,ºº whichº thou hast spokenºº unto thy servantº David.º

 6:18 For will God indeed dwell with men upon the earth? if the heaven and the heaven of heavens will not suffice thee, what then is this house which I have built?

 6:18 Butº will Elohimº in very deedº dwellºº withº menº onº the earth?º behold,º heavenº and the heavenº of heavensº cannotº containºº thee; how much lessº thisº houseº whichº I have built!ºº

 6:19 Yet thou shalt have respect to the prayer of thy servant, and to my petition, O Lord God, so as to hearken to the petition and the prayer which thy servant prays before thee this day:

 6:19 Have respectºº therefore toº the prayerº of thy servant,º and toº his supplication,º O Yahwehº my Elohim,º to hearkenºº untoº the cryº and the prayerº whichº thy servantº prayethºº beforeº thee:

 6:20 so that thine eyes should be open over this house by day and by night, towards this place, whereon thou saidst thy name should be called, so as to hear the prayer which thy servant prays towards this house.

 6:20 That thine eyesº may beº openºº uponº thisº houseº dayº and night,º uponº the placeº whereofº thou hast saidºº that thou wouldest putºº thy nameº there;º to hearkenºº untoº the prayerº whichº thy servantº prayethºº towardº thisº place.º

 6:21 And thou shalt hear the supplication of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, whatsoever prayers they shall make towards this place: and thou shalt hearken in thy dwelling-place out of heaven, yea thou shalt hear, and be merciful.

 6:21 Hearkenºº therefore untoº the supplicationsº of thy servant,º and of thy peopleº Israel,º whichº they shall makeºº towardº thisº place:º hearºº thouº from thy dwellingºº place,ºº [even] fromº heaven;º and when thou hearest,ºº forgive.ºº

 6:22 ¶ If a man sin against his neighbour, and he bring an oath upon him so as to make him swear, and he come and swear before the altar in this house;

 6:22 ¶ Ifº a manº sinºº against his neighbour,º and an oathº be laidºº upon him to make him swear,ºº and the oathº comeºº beforeº thine altarº in thisº house;º

 6:23 then shalt thou hearken out of heaven, and do, and judge thy servants, to recompense the transgressor, and to return his ways upon his head: and to justify the righteous, to recompense him according to his righteousness.

 6:23 Then hearºº thouº fromº heaven,º and do,ºº and judgeººº thy servants,º by requitingºº the wicked,º by recompensingºº his wayº upon his own head;º and by justifyingºº the righteous,º by givingºº him according to his righteousness.º

 6:24 ¶ And if thy people Israel should be put to the worse before the enemy, if they should sin against thee, and [then] turn and confess to thy name, and pray and make supplication before thee in this house;

 6:24 ¶ And ifº thy peopleº Israelº be put to the worseºº beforeº the enemy,ºº becauseº they have sinnedºº against thee; and shall returnºº and confessººº thy name,º and prayºº and make supplicationºº beforeº thee in thisº house;º

 6:25 then shalt thou hearken out of heaven and shalt be merciful to the sins of thy people Israel, and thou shalt restore them to the land which thou gavest to them and to their fathers.

 6:25 Then hearºº thouº fromº the heavens,º and forgiveºº the sinº of thy peopleº Israel,º and bring them againºº untoº the landº whichº thou gavestºº to them and to their fathers.º

 6:26 ¶ When heaven is restrained, and there is no rain, because they shall have sinned against thee, and [when] they shall pray towards this place, and praise thy name, and shall turn from their sins, because thou shalt afflict them;

 6:26 ¶ When the heavenº is shut up,ºº and there isº noº rain,º becauseº they have sinnedºº against thee; [yet] if they prayºº towardº thisº place,º and confessººº thy name,º and turnºº from their sin,ºº whenº thou dost afflictºº them;

 6:27 then shalt thou hearken from heaven, and thou shalt be merciful to the sins of thy servants, and of thy people Israel; for thou shalt shew them the good way in which they shall walk; and thou shalt send rain upon thy land, which thou gavest to thy people for an inheritance.

 6:27 Then hearºº thouº from heaven,º and forgiveºº the sinº of thy servants,º and of thy peopleº Israel,º whenº thou hast taughtºº them the goodº way,º whereinº they should walk;ººº and sendºº rainº uponº thy land,º whichº thou hast givenºº unto thy peopleº for an inheritance.º

 6:28 ¶ If there should be famine upon the land, if there should be death, a pestilent wind an blight; if there should be locust and caterpiller, and if the enemy should harass them before their cities: in whatever plague and whatever distress [they may be];

 6:28 ¶ Ifº there beº dearthº in the land,º ifº there beº pestilence,º ifº there beº blasting,º or mildew,º locusts,º or caterpillers;º ifº their enemiesºº besiegeºº them in the citiesº of their land;º whatsoeverº soreº or whatsoeverº sicknessº [there be]:

 6:29 Then whatever prayer and whatever supplication shall be made by any man and all thy people Israel, if a man should know his own plague and his own sickness, and should spread forth his hands toward this house;

 6:29 [Then] whatº prayerº [or] whatº supplicationº soeverº shall be madeº of anyº man,º or of allº thy peopleº Israel,º whenº every oneº shall knowºº his own soreº and his own grief,º and shall spread forthºº his handsº inº thisº house:º

 6:30 then shalt thou hear from heaven, out of thy prepared dwelling-place, and shalt be merciful, and shalt recompense to the man according to his ways, as thou shalt know his heart [to be]; for thou alone knowest the heart of the children of men:

 6:30 Then hearºº thouº fromº heavenº thy dwellingºº place,º and forgive,ºº and renderºº unto every manº according unto allº his ways,ºº whose heartº thou knowest;ºº (forº thouº onlyº knowestººº the heartsº of the childrenº of men:)º

 6:31 that they may reverence all thy ways all the days which they live upon the face of the land, which thou gavest to our fathers.

 6:31 Thatº they may fearºº thee, to walkººº in thy ways,º so longºº asºº theyº liveºº inºº the landº whichº thou gavestºº unto our fathers.º

 6:32 ¶ And every stranger who is not himself of thy people Israel, and who shall have come from a distant land because of thy great name, and thy mighty hand, and thy high arm; when they shall come and worship toward this place;--

 6:32 ¶ Moreoverº concerningº the stranger,º whichº is notº of thy peopleºº Israel,º but is comeºº from a farº countryºº for thy greatº name'sº sake,ººº and thy mightyº hand,º and thy stretched outºº arm;º if they comeºº and prayºº inº thisº house;º

 6:33 then shalt thou hearken out of heaven, out of thy prepared dwelling-place, and shalt do according to all that the stranger shall call upon thee for; that all the nations of the earth may know thy name, and that they may fear thee, as thy people Israel [do], and that they may know that thy name is called upon this house which I have built.

 6:33 Then hearºº thouº fromº the heavens,º [even] from thy dwellingºº place,ºº and doºº according to allº thatº the strangerº callethºº toº thee for; thatº allº peopleº of the earthº may knowººº thy name,º and fearºº thee, as [doth] thy peopleº Israel,º and may knowºº thatº thisº houseº whichº I have builtºº is calledºº by thy name.º

 6:34 And if thy people shall go forth to war against their enemies by the way by which thou shalt send them, and shall pray to thee toward this city which thou hast chosen, and [toward] the house which I have built to thy name;

 6:34 Ifº thy peopleº go outºº to warº againstº their enemiesºº by the wayº thatº thou shalt sendºº them, and they prayºº untoº thee towardº thisº cityº whichº thou hast chosen,ºº and the houseº whichº I have builtºº for thy name;º

 6:35 then shalt thou hear out of heaven their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause.

 6:35 Then hearºº thou fromº the heavensºº their prayerº and their supplication,º and maintainºº their cause.º

 6:36 Whereas if they shall sin against thee, (for there is no man who will not sin,) and thou shalt smite them, and deliver them up before their enemies, and they that take them captive shall carry them away into a land of enemies, to a land far off or near;

 6:36 Ifº they sinºº against thee, (forº [there is] noº manº whichº sinnethºº not,)º and thou be angryºº with them, and deliverºº them over beforeº [their] enemies,ºº and they carry them awayºº captivesºº untoº a landº far offº orº near;º

 6:37 and [if] they shall repent in their land whither they were carried captive, and shall also turn and make supplication to thee in their captivity, saying, We have sinned, we have transgressed, we have wrought unrighteously;

 6:37 Yet [if] they bethinkººº themselvesººº in the landº whitherºº they are carried captive,ºº and turnºº and prayºº untoº thee in the landº of their captivity,º saying,ºº We have sinned,ºº we have done amiss,ºº and have dealt wickedly;ºº

 6:38 and [if] they shall turn to thee with all their heart and all their soul in the land of them that carried them captives, whither they carried them captives, and shall pray toward their land which thou gavest to their fathers, and the city which thou didst choose, and the house which I built to thy name:--

 6:38 If they returnºº toº thee with allº their heartº and with allº their soulº in the landº of their captivity,º whitherº they have carried them captives,ººº and prayºº towardº their land,º whichº thou gavestºº unto their fathers,º and [toward] the cityº whichº thou hast chosen,ºº and toward the houseº whichº I have builtºº for thy name:º

 6:39 then shalt thou hear out of heaven, out of thy prepared dwelling-place, their prayer and their supplication, and thou shalt execute justice, and shalt be merciful to thy people that sin against thee.

 6:39 Then hearºº thou fromº the heavens,º [even] from thy dwellingºº place,ººº their prayerº and their supplications,º and maintainºº their cause,º and forgiveºº thy peopleº whichº have sinnedºº against thee.

 6:40 And now, Lord, let, I pray thee, thine eyes be opened, and thine ears be attentive to the petition [made in] this place.

 6:40 Now,º my Elohim,º let, I beseech thee,º thine eyesº beº open,ºº and [let] thine earsº [be] attentº unto the prayerº [that is made] in thisº place.º

 6:41 And now, O Lord God, arise into thy resting-place, thou, and the ark of thy strength: let thy priests, O Lord God, clothe themselves with salvation, and thy sons rejoice in prosperity.

 6:41 Nowº therefore arise,ºº O Yahwehº Elohim,º into thy restingº place,º thou,º and the arkº of thy strength:º let thy priests,º O Yahwehº Elohim,º be clothedºº with salvation,º and let thy saintsº rejoiceºº in goodness.º

 6:42 O Lord God, turn not away the face of thine anointed: remember the mercies of thy servant David.

 6:42 O Yahwehº Elohim,º turn not awayººº the faceº of thine anointed:º rememberºº the merciesº of Davidº thy servant.º
