 2:1 ¶ And Solomon said that he would build a house to the name of the Lord, and a house for his kingdom.

 2:1 ¶ And Solomonº determinedºº to buildºº an houseº for the nameº of Yahweh,º and an houseº for his kingdom.º

 2:2 And Solomon gathered seventy thousand men that bore burdens, and eighty thousand hewers of stone in the mountain, and [there were] three thousand six hundred superintendents over them.

 2:2 And Solomonº told outºº threescore and tenº thousandº menº to bear burdens,º and fourscoreº thousandºº to hewºº in the mountain,º and threeº thousandº and sixº hundredº to overseeººº them.

 2:3 ¶ And Solomon sent to Huram{gr.Chiram} king of Tyre, saying, Whereas thou didst deal [favourably] with David my father, and didst send him cedars to build for himself a house to dwell in,

 2:3 ¶ And Solomonº sentºº toº Huramº the kingº of Tyre,º saying,ºº Asº thou didst dealºº withº Davidº my father,º and didst sendºº him cedarsº to buildºº him an houseº to dwellºº therein, [even so deal with me].

 2:4 behold, I also his son am building a house to the name of the Lord my God, to consecrate it to him, to burn incense before him, and [to offer] shewbread continually, and to offer up whole-burnt-offerings continually morning and evening, and on the sabbaths, and at the new moons, and at the feasts of the Lord our God: this [is] a perpetual [statute] for Israel.

 2:4 Behold,º Iº buildºº an houseº to the nameº of Yahwehº my Elohim,º to dedicateºº [it] to him, [and] to burnºº beforeº him sweetº incense,º and for the continualº shewbread,º and for the burnt offeringsº morningº and evening,º on the sabbaths,º and on the new moons,º and on the solemn feastsº of Yahwehº our Elohim.º Thisº [is an ordinance] for everº toº Israel.º

 2:5 And the house which I am building [is to be] great: for the Lord our God [is] great beyond all gods.

 2:5 And the houseº whichº Iº buildºº [is] great:º forº greatº [is] our Elohimº above allºº elohim.º

 2:6 And who will be able to build him a house? for the heaven and heaven of heavens do not bear his glory: and who am I, that I should build him a house, save only to burn incense before him?

 2:6 But whoº is ableººº to buildºº him an house,º seeingº the heavenº and heavenº of heavensº cannotº containºº him? whoº [am] Iº then, thatº I should buildºº him an house,º save onlyºº to burn sacrificeºº beforeº him?

 2:7 And now send me a man wise and skilled to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, and in iron, and in purple, and in scarlet, and in blue, and one that knows how to grave together with the craftsmen who are with me in Judah{gr.Juda} and in Jerusalem, which materials my father David prepared.

 2:7 Sendºº me nowº therefore a manº cunningº to workºº in gold,º and in silver,º and in brass,º and in iron,º and in purple,º and crimson,º and blue,º and that can skillºº to graveººº withº the cunning menº thatº [are] withº me in Judahº and in Jerusalem,º whomº Davidº my fatherº did provide.ºº

 2:8 And send me from Lebanon{gr.Libanus} cedar wood, and wood of juniper, and pine; for I know that thy servants are skilled in cutting timber in Lebanon{gr.Libanus}: and, behold, thy servants shall go with my servants,

 2:8 Sendºº me also cedarº trees,º fir trees,º and algum trees,º out of Lebanon:ºº forº Iº knowºº thatº thy servantsº can skillºº to cutºº timberº in Lebanon;º and, behold,º my servantsº [shall be] withº thy servants,º

 2:9 to prepare timber for me in abundance: for the house which I am building [must be] great and glorious.

 2:9 Even to prepareºº me timberº in abundance:º forº the houseº whichº Iº am about to buildºº [shall be] wonderfulºº great.º

 2:10 And, behold, I have given freely to thy servants that work and cut the wood, corn for food, [even] twenty thousand measures of wheat, and twenty thousand measures of barley, and twenty thousand measures of wine, and twenty thousand measures of oil.

 2:10 And, behold,º I will giveºº to thy servants,º the hewersºº that cutºº timber,º twentyº thousandº measuresº of beatenº wheat,º and twentyº thousandº measuresº of barley,º and twentyº thousandº bathsº of wine,º and twentyº thousandº bathsº of oil.º

 2:11 ¶ And Huram{gr.Chiram} king of Tyre answered in writing, and sent to Solomon, saying, Because the Lord loved his people, he made thee king over them.

 2:11 ¶ Then Huramº the kingº of Tyreº answeredºº in writing,º which he sentºº toº Solomon,º Because Yahwehº hath lovedºº his people,º he hath madeºº thee kingº overº them.

 2:12 And Huram{gr.Chiram} said, Blessed [be] the Lord God of Israel, who made heaven and earth, who has given to king David a wise son, and one endowed with knowledge and understanding, who shall build a house for the Lord, and a house for his kingdom.

 2:12 Huramº saidºº moreover, Blessedºº [be] Yahwehº Elohimº of Israel,º thatº madeººº heavenº and earth,º whoº hath givenºº to Davidº the kingº a wiseº son,º enduedºº with prudenceº and understanding,º thatº might buildºº an houseº for Yahweh,º and an houseº for his kingdom.º

 2:13 And now I have sent thee a wise and understanding man [who belonged] to Huram{gr.Chiram} my father

 2:13 And nowº I have sentºº a cunningº man,º enduedºº with understanding,º of Huramº my father's,º

 2:14 (his mother [was] of the daughters of Dan, and his father [was] a Tyrian), skilled to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, and in iron, and in stones and wood; and to weave with purple, and blue, and fine linen, and scarlet; and to engrave, and to understand every device, whatsoever thou shalt give him [to do] with thy craftsmen, and the craftsmen of my lord David thy father.

 2:14 The sonº of a womanº ofº the daughtersº of Dan,º and his fatherº [was] a manº of Tyre,º skilfulºº to workºº in gold,º and in silver,º in brass,º in iron,º in stone,º and in timber,º in purple,º in blue,º and in fine linen,º and in crimson;º also to graveºº any mannerº of graving,º and to find outºº everyº deviceº whichº shall be putºº to him, withº thy cunning men,º and with the cunning menº of my adonº Davidº thy father.º

 2:15 And now, the wheat, and the barley, and the oil, and the wine which my lord mentioned, let him send to his servants.

 2:15 Nowº therefore the wheat,º and the barley,º the oil,º and the wine,º whichº my adonº hath spokenºº of, let him sendºº unto his servants:º

 2:16 And we will cut timber out of Lebanon{gr.Libanus} according to all thy need, and we will bring it on rafts to the sea of Joppa, and thou shalt bring it to Jerusalem.

 2:16 And weº will cutºº woodº out ofº Lebanon,º as much as thouº shalt need:º and we will bringºº it to thee in floatsº byº seaº to Joppa;º and thouº shalt carry it upººº to Jerusalem.º

 2:17 ¶ And Solomon gathered all the foreigners that were in the land of Israel, after the numbering with which David his father numbered them; and there were found a hundred and fifty-three thousand six hundred.

 2:17 ¶ And Solomonº numberedºº allº the strangersººº thatº [were] in the landº of Israel,º afterº the numberingº wherewithº Davidº his fatherº had numberedºº them; and they were foundºº an hundredº and fiftyº thousandº and threeº thousandº and sixº hundred.º

 2:18 And he made of them seventy thousand burden-bearers, and eighty thousand hewers of stone, and three thousand six hundred taskmasters over the people.

 2:18 And he setºº threescore and tenº thousandº ofº them [to be] bearers of burdens,º and fourscoreº thousandº [to be] hewersºº in the mountain,º and threeº thousandº and sixº hundredº overseersºº to setººº the peopleº a work.ºº
