In the twenty-third year of Joash{gr.Joas} son of Ahaziah{gr.Ochozias} king of Judah{gr.Juda} began Jehoahaz{gr.Joachaz} the son of Jehu{gr.Ju} to reign in Samaria, [and he reigned] seventeen years. |

Israelº
in Samaria,º
[and reigned] seventeenºº

And he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, and walked after the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat{gr.Nabat}, who led Israel to sin; he departed not from them. |
|

And he didºº
[that which was] evilº
in the sightº
of Yahweh,º
and followedºººº
the sinsº
of Jeroboamº
the sonº
of Nebat,º
whichº
madeº
Israelº
to sin;ºº
he departedºº
notº
therefrom.º |

13:3 ¶
And the Lord was very angry with Israel, and delivered them into the hand of Hazael{gr.Azael} king of Syria, and into the hand of the son of Hadad{gr.Ader} son of Hazael{gr.Azael}, all their days. |
|
13:3 ¶
And the angerº
of Yahwehº
was kindledºº
against Israel,º
and he deliveredºº
them into the handº
of Hazaelº
kingº
of Syria,º
and into the handº
of Benhadadº
the sonº
of Hazael,º
allº
[their] days.º |

13:4
And Jehoahaz{gr.Joachaz} besought the Lord, and the Lord hearkened to him, for he saw the affliction of Israel, because the king of Syria afflicted them. |
|

And Jehoahazº
besoughtººº
Yahweh,ºº
and Yahwehº
hearkenedºº
untoºº
him: forº
he sawººº
the oppressionº
of Israel,º
becauseº
the kingº
of Syriaº
oppressedºº
them. |
|
13:5
And the Lord gave deliverance to Israel, and they escaped from under the hand of Syria: and the children of Israel dwelt in their tents as heretofore. |
|

(And Yahwehº
gaveºº
Israelº
a saviour,ºº
so that they went outºº
from underºº
the handº
of the Syrians:º
and the childrenº
of Israelº
dweltºº
in their tents,º
as beforetime.ºº |

Only they departed not from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, who led Israel to sin: they walked in them-- moreover the grove also remained in Samaria. |

Neverthelessº
they departedºº
notº
from the sinsºº
of the houseº
of Jeroboam,º
whoº
madeº
Israelº
sin,ºº
[but] walkedºº
therein: and there remainedºº
the groveº
alsoº
in Samaria.)º |

Whereas there was not left any army to Jehoahaz{gr.Joachaz}, except fifty horsemen, and ten chariots, and ten thousand infantry: for the king of Syria had destroyed them, and they made them as dust for trampling. |

did he leaveºº
of the peopleº
to Jehoahazº
butºº
fiftyº
horsemen,º
and tenº
chariots,º
and tenº
thousandº
footmen;º
forº
the kingº
of Syriaº
had destroyedºº
them, and had madeºº
them like the dustº
by threshing.ºº |

And the rest of the acts of Jehoahaz{gr.Joachaz}, and all that he did, and his mighty acts [are] not these things written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? |

Now the restº
of the actsº
of Jehoahaz,º
and allº
thatº
he did,ºº
and his might,º
[are] theyº
notº
writtenºº
inº
the bookº
of the chroniclesºº
of the kingsº
of Israel?º |

And Jehoahaz{gr.Joachaz} slept with his fathers, and they buried him in Samaria: and Joash{gr.Joas} his son reigned in his stead. |

and they buriedºº

and Joashº
his sonº

13:10 ¶
In the thirty-seventh year of Joash{gr.Joas} king of Judah{gr.Juda}, Joash{gr.Joas} the son of Jehoahaz{gr.Joachaz} began to reign over Israel in Samaria sixteen years. |

Now Elisha{gr.Elisaie} was sick of his sickness, whereof he died: and Joash{gr.Joas} king of Israel went down to him, and wept over his face, and said, [My] father, [my] father, the chariot of Israel, and the horseman thereof! |
|

Now Elishaº
was fallen sickºº
ofº
his sicknessº
whereofº
he died.ºº
And Joashº
the kingº
of Israelº
came downºº
untoº
him, and weptºº
overº
his face,º
and said,ºº
O my father,º
my father,º
the chariotº
of Israel,º

And Elisha{gr.Elisaie} said to him, Take bow and arrows. And he took to himself a bow and arrows. |

And Elishaº

unto him, Takeºº
bowº
and arrows.º
And he tookºº
untoº
him bowº
and arrows.º |

And he said to the king, Put thy hand on the bow. And Joash{gr.Joas} put his hand upon [it]: and Elisha{gr.Elisaie} put his hands upon the king's hands. |

to the kingº
of Israel,º
Putºº
thine handº
uponº
the bow.º
And he putºº
his handº
[upon it]: and Elishaº
putºº
his handsº
uponº
the king'sº
hands.º |

And he said, Open the window eastward. And he opened it. And Elisha{gr.Elisaie} said, Shoot. And he shot. And [Elisha{gr.Elisaie}] said, The arrow of the Lord's deliverance, and the arrow of deliverance from Syria; and thou shalt smite the Syrians in Aphec until thou have consumed them. |

the windowº
eastward.º
And he openedºº
[it]. Then Elishaº
said,ºº
Shoot.ºº
And he shot.ºº
And he said,ºº
The arrowº
of Yahweh'sº
deliverance,º
and the arrowº
of deliveranceº
from Syria:º
for thou shalt smiteººº
the Syriansº
in Aphek,º
tillº
thou have consumedºº
[them]. |

And Elisha{gr.Elisaie} said to him, Take bow and arrows. And he took them. And [he] said to the king of Israel, Smite upon the ground. And the king smote three times, and stayed. |
|

And he said,ºº
Takeºº
the arrows.º
And he tookºº
[them]. And he saidºº
unto the kingº
of Israel,º
Smiteºº
upon the ground.º
And he smoteºº
thrice,ºº
and stayed.ºº |

13:19
And the man of God was grieved at him, and said, If thou hadst smitten five or six times, then thou shouldest have smitten Syria till thou hadst consumed them; but now thou shalt smite Syria [only] thrice. |

And the manº
of Elohimº
was wrothºº
withº
him, and said,ºº
Thou shouldest have smittenºº
fiveº
orº
sixº
times;º
thenº
hadst thou smittenººº
Syriaº
tillº
thou hadst consumedºº
[it]: whereas nowº
thou shalt smiteººº
Syriaº
[but] thrice.ºº |

13:20 ¶
And Elisha{gr.Elisaie} died, and they buried him. And the bands of the Moabites came into the land, at the beginning of the year. |
|
13:20 ¶
And Elishaº
died,ºº
and they buriedºº
him. And the bandsº
of the Moabitesº
invadedºº
the landº
at the coming inºº
of the year.º |

13:21
And it came to pass as they were burying a man, that behold, they saw a band [of men], and they cast the man into the grave of Elisha{gr.Elisaie}: and as soon as he touched the bones of Elisha{gr.Elisaie}, he revived and stood up on his feet. |
|

And it came to pass,º
as theyº
were buryingºº
a man,º
that, behold,º
they spiedººº
a bandº
[of men]; and they castººº
the manº
into the sepulchreº
of Elisha:º
and when the manº
was let down,ººº
and touchedºº
the bonesº
of Elisha,º
he revived,ºº
and stood upºº
onº
his feet.º |

13:22 ¶
And Hazael{gr.Azael} greatly afflicted Israel all the days of Jehoahaz{gr.Joachaz}. |
|

But Hazaelº
kingº
of Syriaº
oppressedººº
Israelº
allº
the daysº
of Jehoahaz.º |

13:23
And the Lord had mercy and compassion upon them, and had respect to them because of his covenant with Abraham{gr.Abraam}, and Isaac, and Jacob; and the Lord would not destroy them, and did not cast them out from his presence. |

was graciousºº
unto them, and had compassionºº
onº
them, and had respectºº
untoº
them, becauseº
ofº
his covenantº
withº
Abraham,º
Isaac,º
and Jacob,º
and wouldºº
notº
destroyºº
them, neitherº

his presenceº
asº
yet.ºº |

And Hazael{gr.Azael} king of Syria died, and the son of Hadad{gr.Ader} his son reigned in his stead. |

And Joash{gr.Joas} the son of Jehoahaz{gr.Joachaz} returned, and took the cities out of the hand of the son of Hadad{gr.Ader} the son of Hazael{gr.Azael}, which he had taken out of the hand of Jehoahaz{gr.Joachaz} his father in the war: thrice did Joash{gr.Joas} smite him, and he recovered the cities of Israel. |
