Brenton's Septuagint (LXX) - Holy Name KJV
LXX < < 2 Kings{gr.Basileion D} 2 > > KJV
1 Elijah, taking his leave of Elisha, with his mantle divideth Jordan, 9 and, granting Elisha his request, is taken up by a whirlwind into heaven. 12 Elisha, dividing Jordan with Elijah's mantle, is acknowledged his successor. 16 The young prophets, hardly obtaining leave to seek Elijah, could not find him. 19 Elisha with salt healeth the unwholesome waters. 23 Bears destroy the children that mocked Elisha.
 2:1 ¶
And it came to pass, when the Lord was going to take Elijah{gr.Eliu} with a whirlwind as it were into heaven, that Elijah{gr.Eliu} and Elisha{gr.Elisaie} went out of Gilgal{gr.Galgala}. |
|
 2:1 ¶
And it came to pass,º
when Yahwehº
would take upººº
Elijahº
into heavenº
by a whirlwind,º
that Elijahº
wentººº
with Elishaº
fromº
Gilgal.º |
 2:2
And Elijah{gr.Eliu} said to Elisha{gr.Elisaie}, Stay here, I pray thee; for God has sent me to Bethel{gr.Baethel}. And Elisha{gr.Elisaie} said, [As] the Lord lives and thy soul lives, I will not leave thee; so they came to Bethel{gr.Baethel}. |
|
 2:2
And Elijahº
saidºº
untoº
Elisha,º
Tarryºº
here,º
I pray thee;º
forº
Yahwehº
hath sentºº
me toº
Bethel.º
And Elishaº
saidºº
[unto him, As] Yahwehº
liveth,º
and [as] thy soulº
liveth,º
I will notº
leaveºº
thee. So they went downºº
to Bethel.º |
 2:3
And the sons of the prophets who were in Bethel{gr.Baethel} came to Elisha{gr.Elisaie}, and said to him, Dost thou know, that the Lord this day is going to take thy lord away from thy head? And he said, Yea, I know [it]; be silent. |
|
 2:3
And the sonsº
of the prophetsº
thatº
[were] at Bethelº
came forthºº
toº
Elisha,º
and saidºº
untoº
him, Knowestºº
thou thatº
Yahwehº
will take awayººº
thy adonº
fromºº
thy headº
to day?º
And he said,ºº
Yea,º
Iº
knowºº
[it]; hold ye your peace.ºº |
 2:4
And Elijah{gr.Eliu} said to Elisha{gr.Elisaie}, Stay here, I pray thee; for the Lord has sent me to Jericho. And he said, [As] the Lord lives and thy soul lives, I will not leave thee. And they came to Jericho. |
|
 2:4
And Elijahº
saidºº
unto him, Elisha,º
tarryºº
here,º
I pray thee;º
forº
Yahwehº
hath sentºº
me to Jericho.º
And he said,ºº
[As] Yahwehº
liveth,º
and [as] thy soulº
liveth,º
I will notº
leaveºº
thee. So they cameºº
to Jericho.º |
 2:5
And the sons of the prophets who were in Jericho drew near to Elisha{gr.Elisaie}, and said to him, Dost thou know that the Lord is about to take away thy master to-day from thy head? And he said, Yea, I know [it]; hold your peace. |
|
 2:5
And the sonsº
of the prophetsº
thatº
[were] at Jerichoº
cameºº
toº
Elisha,º
and saidºº
untoº
him, Knowestºº
thou thatº
Yahwehº
will take awayººº
thy adonº
fromºº
thy headº
to day?º
And he answered,ºº
Yea,º
Iº
knowºº
[it]; hold ye your peace.ºº |
 2:6
And Elijah{gr.Eliu} said to him, Stay here, I pray thee, for the Lord has sent me to Jordan. And Elisha{gr.Elisaie} said, [As] the Lord lives and thy soul lives, I will not leave thee: and they both went on. |
|
 2:6
And Elijahº
saidºº
unto him, Tarry,ºº
I pray thee,º
here;º
forº
Yahwehº
hath sentºº
me to Jordan.º
And he said,ºº
[As] Yahwehº
liveth,º
and [as] thy soulº
liveth,º
I will notº
leaveºº
thee. And they twoº
went on.ººº |
 2:7
And fifty men of the sons of the prophets [went also], and they stood opposite afar off: and both stood on [the bank] of Jordan. |
|
 2:7
And fiftyº
menº
of the sonsºº
of the prophetsº
went,ºº
and stoodºº
to viewºº
afar off:ºº
and they twoº
stoodºº
byº
Jordan.º |
 2:8
And Elijah{gr.Eliu} took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and smote the water: and the water was divided on this side and on that side, and they both went over on dry ground. |
|
 2:8
And Elijahº
tookººº
his mantle,º
and wrapped [it] together,ºº
and smoteººº
the waters,º
and they were dividedºº
hitherº
and thither,º
so that they twoº
went overºº
on dryº
ground.º |
 2:9 ¶
And it came to pass while they were crossing over, that Elijah{gr.Eliu} said to Elisha{gr.Elisaie}, Ask what I shall do for thee before I am taken up from thee. And Elisha{gr.Elisaie} said, Let there be, I pray thee, a double [portion] of thy spirit upon me. |
|
 2:9 ¶
And it came to pass,º
when they were gone over,ºº
that Elijahº
saidºº
untoº
Elisha,º
Askºº
whatº
I shall doºº
for thee, beforeº
I be taken awayºº
fromºº
thee. And Elishaº
said,ºº
I pray thee,º
let a doubleº
portionº
of thy spiritº
beº
uponº
me. |
 2:10
And Elijah{gr.Eliu} said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: if thou shalt see me when I am taken up from thee, then shall it be so to thee; and if not, it shall not be [so]. |
|
 2:10
And he said,ºº
Thou hast askedºº
a hard thing:ºº
[nevertheless], ifº
thou seeºº
me [when I am] takenºº
fromºº
thee, it shall beº
soº
unto thee; but ifº
not,º
it shall notº
beº
[so]. |
 2:11
And it came to pass as they were going, they went on talking; and, behold, a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and it separated between them both; and Elijah{gr.Eliu} was taken up in a whirlwind as it were into heaven. |
|
 2:11
And it came to pass,º
as theyº
stillºº
went on,ºº
and talked,ºº
that, behold,º
[there appeared] a chariotº
of fire,º
and horsesº
of fire,º
and partedºº
them bothº
asunder;º
and Elijahº
went upºº
by a whirlwindº
into heaven.º |
 2:12 ¶
And Elisha{gr.Elisaie} saw, and cried, Father, father, the chariot of Israel, and the horseman thereof! And he saw him no more: and he took hold of his garments, and rent them into two pieces. |
|
 2:12 ¶
And Elishaº
sawºº
[it], and heº
cried,ºº
My father,º
my father,º
the chariotº
of Israel,º
and the horsemenº
thereof. And he sawºº
him noº
more:º
and he took holdºº
of his own clothes,º
and rentºº
them in twoº
pieces.º |
 2:13
And Elisha{gr.Elisaie} took up the mantle of Elijah{gr.Eliu}, which fell from off him upon Elisha{gr.Elisaie}; and Elisha{gr.Elisaie} returned, and stood upon the brink of Jordan; |
|
 2:13
He took upºº
alsoº
the mantleº
of Elijahº
thatº
fellºº
fromºº
him, and went back,ºº
and stoodºº
byº
the bankº
of Jordan;º |
 2:14
and he took the mantle of Elijah{gr.Eliu}, which fell from off him, and smote the water, and said, Where is the Lord God of Elijah{gr.Eliu}? and he smote the waters, and they were divided hither and thither; and Elisha{gr.Elisaie} went over. |
|
 2:14
And he tookººº
the mantleº
of Elijahº
thatº
fellºº
fromºº
him, and smoteººº
the waters,º
and said,ºº
Whereº
[is] Yahwehº
Elohimº
of Elijah?º
and when heº
alsoº
had smittenººº
the waters,º
they partedºº
hitherº
and thither:º
and Elishaº
went over.ºº |
 2:15
And the sons of the prophets who were in Jericho on the opposite side saw him, and said, The spirit of Elijah{gr.Eliu} has rested upon Elisha{gr.Elisaie}. And they came to meet him, and did obeisance to him to the ground. |
|
 2:15
And when the sonsº
of the prophetsº
whichº
[were] to viewºº
at Jerichoº
sawºº
him, they said,ºº
The spiritº
of Elijahº
doth restºº
onº
Elisha.º
And they cameºº
to meetºº
him, and bowedºº
themselvesº
to the groundº
before him. |
 2:16 ¶
And they said to him, Behold now, [there are] with thy servants fifty men of strength: let them go now, and seek thy lord: peradventure the Spirit of the Lord has taken him up, and cast him into Jordan, or on one of the mountains, or on one of the hills. And Elisha{gr.Elisaie} said, Ye shall not send. |
|
 2:16 ¶
And they saidºº
untoº
him, Beholdº
now,º
there beº
withº
thy servantsº
fiftyº
strongºº
men;ººº
let them go,ººº
we pray thee,º
and seekººº
thy adon:º
lest peradventureº
the Spiritº
of Yahwehº
hath taken him up,ºº
and castºº
him upon someº
mountain,º
orº
into someº
valley.º
And he said,ºº
Ye shall notº
send.ºº |
 2:17
And they pressed him until he was ashamed; and he said, Send. And they sent fifty men, and sought three days, and found him not. |
|
 2:17
And when they urgedºº
him tillº
he was ashamed,ºº
he said,ºº
Send.ºº
They sentºº
therefore fiftyº
men;º
and they soughtºº
threeº
days,º
but foundºº
him not.º |
 2:18
And they returned to him, for he dwelt in Jericho: and Elisha{gr.Elisaie} said, Did I not say to you, Go not? |
|
 2:18
And when they came againºº
toº
him, (for heº
tarriedºº
at Jericho,)º
he saidºº
untoº
them, Did I notº
sayºº
untoº
you, Goººº
not?º |
 2:19 ¶
And the men of the city said to Elisha{gr.Elisaie}, Behold, the situation of the city [is] good, as [our] lord sees; but the waters [are] bad, and the ground barren. |
|
 2:19 ¶
And the menºº
of the cityº
saidºº
untoº
Elisha,º
Behold,º
I pray thee,º
the situationº
of this cityº
[is] pleasant,º
asº
my adonº
seeth:ºº
but the waterº
[is] naught,º
and the groundº
barren.ºº |
 2:20
And Elisha{gr.Elisaie} said, Bring me a new pitcher, and put salt in it. And they took [one], and brought [it] to him. |
|
 2:20
And he said,ºº
Bringºº
me a newº
cruse,º
and putºº
saltº
therein.º
And they broughtºº
[it] toº
him. |
 2:21
And Elisha{gr.Elisaie} went out to the spring of the waters, and cast salt therein, and says, Thus saith the Lord, I have healed these waters; there shall not be any longer death thence or barren [land]. |
|
 2:21
And he went forthºº
untoº
the springº
of the waters,º
and castºº
the saltº
in there,º
and said,ºº
Thusº
saithºº
Yahweh,º
I have healedºº
theseº
waters;º
there shall notº
beº
from thenceºº
any moreº
deathº
or barrenºº
[land]. |
 2:22
And the waters were healed until this day, according to the word of Elisha{gr.Elisaie} which he spoke. |
|
 2:22
So the watersº
were healedºº
untoº
thisº
day,º
according to the sayingº
of Elishaº
whichº
he spake.ºº |
 2:23 ¶
And he went up thence to Bethel{gr.Baethel}: and as he was going up by the way there came up also little children from the city, and mocked him, and said to him, Go up, bald-head, go up. |
|
 2:23 ¶
And he went upºº
from thenceºº
unto Bethel:º
and as heº
was going upºº
by the way,º
there came forthºº
littleº
childrenº
out ofº
the city,º
and mockedºº
him, and saidºº
unto him, Go up,ºº
thou bald head;º
go up,ºº
thou bald head.º |
 2:24
And he turned after them, and saw them, and cursed them in the name of the Lord. And, behold, there came out two bears out of the wood, and they tore forty and two children of them. |
|
 2:24
And he turnedºº
back,º
and lookedºº
on them, and cursedºº
them in the nameº
of Yahweh.º
And there came forthºº
twoº
she bearsº
out ofº
the wood,º
and tareºº
fortyº
and twoº
childrenº
ofº
them. |
 2:25
And he went thence to mount Carmel, and returned thence to Samaria. |
|
 2:25
And he wentººº
from thenceºº
toº
mountº
Carmel,º
and from thenceºº
he returnedºº
to Samaria.º |
