 4:1 ¶
And one of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried to Elisha{gr.Elisaie}, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant feared the Lord: and the creditor is come to take my two sons to be his servants. |
|
 4:1 ¶
Now there criedºº
a certainº
womanº
of the wivesºº
of the sonsº
of the prophetsº
untoº
Elisha,º
saying,ºº
Thy servantº
my husbandº
is dead;ºº
and thouº
knowestºº
thatº
thy servantº
didº
fearººº
Yahweh:º
and the creditorºº
is comeºº
to takeºº
unto himº
my twoº
sonsº
to be bondmen.º |
 4:2
And Elisha{gr.Elisaie} said, What shall I do for thee? tell me what thou hast in the house. And she said, Thy servant has nothing in the house, except oil wherewith I anoint myself. |
|
 4:2
And Elishaº
saidºº
untoº
her, Whatº
shall I doºº
for thee? tellºº
me, whatº
hastº
thou in the house?º
And she said,ºº
Thine handmaidº
hath notº
any thingº
in the house,º
saveºº
a potº
of oil.º |
 4:3
And he said to her, Go, borrow for thyself vessels without of all thy neighbours, [even] empty vessels; borrow not a few. |
|
 4:3
Then he said,ºº
Go,ººº
borrowºº
thee vesselsº
abroadºº
ofºº
allº
thy neighbours,º
[even] emptyº
vessels;º
borrow not a few.ººº |
 4:4
And thou shalt go in and shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and thou shalt pour forth into these vessels, and remove that which is filled. |
|
 4:4
And when thou art come in,ºº
thou shalt shutºº
the doorº
uponº
thee and uponº
thy sons,º
and shalt pour outºº
intoº
allº
thoseº
vessels,º
and thou shalt set asideºº
that which is full.º |
 4:5
And she departed from him, and shut the door upon herself and upon her sons: they brought the vessels near to her, and she poured in until the vessels were filled. |
|
 4:5
So she wentººº
fromºº
him, and shutºº
the doorº
uponº
her and uponº
her sons,º
whoº
broughtºº
[the vessels] toº
her; and sheº
poured out.ºº |
 4:6
And she said to her sons, Bring me yet a vessel. And they said to her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed. |
|
 4:6
And it came to pass,º
when the vesselsº
were full,ºº
that she saidºº
untoº
her son,º
Bringººº
me yetº
a vessel.º
And he saidºº
untoº
her, [There is] notº
a vesselº
more.º
And the oilº
stayed.ºº |
 4:7
And she came and told the man of God: and Elisha{gr.Elisaie} said, Go, and sell the oil, and thou shalt pay thy debts, and thou and thy sons shall live of the remaining oil. |
|
 4:7
Then she cameºº
and toldºº
the manº
of Elohim.º
And he said,ºº
Go,ººº
sellººº
the oil,º
and payººº
thy debt,º
and liveºº
thouº
and thy childrenº
of the rest.ºº |
 4:8 ¶
And a day came, when Elisha{gr.Elisaie} passed over to Soman, and [there was] a great lady there, and she constrained him to eat bread: and it came to pass as often as he went into [the city, that] he turned aside to eat there. |
|
 4:8 ¶
And it fellº
on a day,º
that Elishaº
passedºº
toº
Shunem,º
whereº
[was] a greatº
woman;º
and she constrainedºº
him to eatºº
bread.º
And [so] it was,º
[that] as oftºº
as he passed by,ºº
he turnedºº
inº
thitherº
to eatºº
bread.º |
 4:9
And the woman said to her husband, See now, I know that this [is] a holy man of God who comes over continually to us. |
|
 4:9
And she saidºº
untoº
her husband,º
Beholdº
now,º
I perceiveºº
thatº
thisº
[is] an holyº
manº
of Elohim,º
which passethºº
byºº
us continually.º |
 4:10
Let us now make for him an upper chamber, a small place; and let us put there for him a bed, and a table, and a stool, and a candlestick: and it shall come to pass that when he comes in to us, he shall turn in thither. |
|
 4:10
Let us makeºº
a littleº
chamber,º
I pray thee,º
on the wall;º
and let us setºº
for him thereº
a bed,º
and a table,º
and a stool,º
and a candlestick:º
and it shall be,º
when he comethºº
toº
us, that he shall turnºº
inº
thither.º |
 4:11
And a day came, and he went in thither, and turned aside into the upper chamber, and lay there. |
|
 4:11
And it fellº
on a day,º
that he cameºº
thither,º
and he turnedºº
intoº
the chamber,º
and layºº
there.º |
 4:12
And he said to Gehazi{gr.Giezi} his servant, Call me this Shunammite{gr.Somanite}. and he called her, and she stood before him. |
|
 4:12
And he saidºº
toº
Gehaziº
his servant,º
Callºº
thisº
Shunammite.º
And when he had calledºº
her, she stoodºº
beforeº
him. |
 4:13
And he said to him, Say now to her, Behold, thou hast taken all this trouble for us; what should I do for thee? Hast thou any request [to make] to the king, or to the captain of the host? And she said, I dwell in the midst of my people. |
|
 4:13
And he saidºº
unto him, Sayºº
nowº
untoº
her, Behold,º
thou hast been carefulºº
forº
us withº
allº
thisº
care;º
whatº
[is] to be doneºº
for thee? wouldestº
thou be spokenºº
for toº
the king,º
orº
toº
the captainº
of the host?º
And she answered,ºº
Iº
dwellºº
amongº
mine own people.º |
 4:14
And he said to Gehazi{gr.Giezi}, What must we do for her? and Gehazi{gr.Giezi} his servant said, Indeed she has no son, and her husband [is] old. |
|
 4:14
And he said,ºº
Whatº
then [is] to be doneºº
for her? And Gehaziº
answered,ºº
Verilyº
she hath noº
child,º
and her husbandº
is old.ºº |
 4:15
And he called her, and she stood by the door. |
|
 4:15
And he said,ºº
Callºº
her. And when he had calledºº
her, she stoodºº
in the door.º |
 4:16
And Elisha{gr.Elisaie} said to her, At this time [next year], as the season [is], thou [shalt be] alive, and embrace a son. And she said, Nay, my lord, do not lie to thy servant. |
|
 4:16
And he said,ºº
About thisº
season,º
according to the timeº
of life,º
thouº
shalt embraceºº
a son.º
And she said,ºº
Nay,º
my adon,º
[thou] manº
of Elohim,º
do not lieººº
unto thine handmaid.º |
 4:17
And the woman conceived, and bore a son at the very time, as the season was, being alive, as Elisha{gr.Elisaie} said to her. |
|
 4:17
And the womanº
conceived,ºº
and bareºº
a sonº
at thatº
seasonº
thatº
Elishaº
had saidºº
untoº
her, according to the timeº
of life.º |
 4:18 ¶
And the child grew: and it came to pass when he went out to his father to the reapers, |
|
 4:18 ¶
And when the childº
was grown,ºº
it fellº
on a day,º
that he went outºº
toº
his fatherº
toº
the reapers.ºº |
 4:19
that he said to his father, My head, my head. and [his father] said to a servant, carry him to his mother. |
|
 4:19
And he saidºº
untoº
his father,º
My head,º
my head.º
And he saidºº
toº
a lad,º
Carryºº
him toº
his mother.º |
 4:20
And he carried him to his mother, and he lay upon her knees till noon, and died. |
|
 4:20
And when he had takenºº
him, and broughtºº
him toº
his mother,º
he satºº
onº
her kneesº
tillº
noon,º
and [then] died.ºº |
 4:21
And she carried him up and laid him on the bed of the man of god; and she shut the door upon him, and went out. |
|
 4:21
And she went up,ºº
and laidºº
him onº
the bedº
of the manº
of Elohim,º
and shutºº
[the door] uponº
him, and went out.ºº |
 4:22
And she called her husband, and said, Send now for me one of the young men, and one of the asses, and I will ride quickly to the man of God, and return. |
|
 4:22
And she calledºº
untoº
her husband,º
and said,ºº
Sendºº
me, I pray thee,º
oneº
ofº
the young men,º
and oneº
of the asses,º
that I may runºº
toº
the manº
of Elohim,º
and come again.ºº |
 4:23
And he said, Why art thou going to him to-day? It is neither new moon, nor the Sabbath. And she said, [It is] well. |
|
 4:23
And he said,ºº
Whereforeº
wilt thouº
goºº
toº
him to day?º
[it is] neitherº
new moon,º
norº
sabbath.º
And she said,ºº
[It shall be] well.º |
 4:24
And she saddled the ass, and said to her servant, Be quick, proceed: spare not on my account to ride, unless I shall tell thee. Go, and thou shalt proceed, and come to the man of God to mount Carmel. |
|
 4:24
Then she saddledºº
an ass,º
and saidºº
toº
her servant,º
Drive,ºº
and go forward;ººº
slackºº
notº
[thy] ridingºº
for me, exceptºº
I bidºº
thee. |
 4:25
And she rode and came to the man of God to the mountain: and it came to pass when Elisha{gr.Elisaie} saw her coming, that he said to Gehazi{gr.Giezi} his servant, See now, that Shunammite{gr.Somanite} comes. |
|
 4:25
So she wentººº
and cameºº
untoº
the manº
of Elohimº
toº
mountº
Carmel.º
And it came to pass,º
when the manº
of Elohimº
sawº
her afar off,ºººº
that he saidºº
toº
Gehaziº
his servant,º
Behold,º
[yonder is] thatº
Shunammite:º |
 4:26
Now run to meet her, and thou shalt say, [Is it] well with thee? [is it] well with thy husband? [is it] well with the child? and she said, [It is] well. |
|
 4:26
Runºº
now,º
I pray thee,º
to meetººº
her, and sayºº
unto her, [Is it] wellº
with thee? [is it] wellº
with thy husband?º
[is it] wellº
with the child?º
And she answered,ºº
[It is] well.º |
 4:27
And she came to Elisha{gr.Elisaie} to the mountain, and laid hold of his feet; and Gehazi{gr.Giezi} drew near to thrust her away. And Elisha{gr.Elisaie} said, Let her alone, for her soul [is] much grieved in her, and the Lord has hidden [it] from me, and has not told [it] me. |
|
 4:27
And when she cameºº
toº
the manº
of Elohimº
toº
the hill,º
she caughtºº
him by the feet:º
but Gehaziº
came nearºº
to thrust her away.ºº
And the manº
of Elohimº
said,ºº
Let her alone;ºº
forº
her soulº
[is] vexedºº
within her: and Yahwehº
hath hidºº
[it] fromº
me, and hath notº
toldºº
me. |
 4:28
And she said, Did I ask a son of my lord? For did I not say, Do not deal deceitfully with me? |
|
 4:28
Then she said,ºº
Did I desireºº
a sonº
ofºº
my adon?º
did I notº
say,ºº
Do notº
deceiveºº
me? |
 4:29
And Elisha{gr.Elisaie} said to Gehazi{gr.Giezi}, Gird up thy loins, and take my staff in thy hand, and go: if thou meet any man, thou shalt not salute him, and if a man salute thee thou shalt not answer him: and thou shalt lay my staff on the child's face. |
|
 4:29
Then he saidºº
to Gehazi,º
Gird upºº
thy loins,º
and takeºº
my staffº
in thine hand,º
and go thy way:ººº
ifº
thou meetºº
any man,º
saluteºº
him not;º
and ifº
anyº
saluteºº
thee, answerº
him notº
again:ºº
and layºº
my staffº
uponº
the faceº
of the child.º |
 4:30
And the mother of the child said, [As] the Lord lives and [as] thy soul lives, I will not leave thee. And Elisha{gr.Elisaie} arose, and went after her. |
|
 4:30
And the motherº
of the childº
said,ºº
[As] Yahwehº
liveth,º
and [as] thy soulº
liveth,º
I will notº
leaveºº
thee. And he arose,ºº
and followedºººº
her. |
 4:31
And Gehazi{gr.Giezi} went on before her, and laid his staff on the child's face: but there was neither voice nor any hearing. So he returned to meet him, and told him, saying, The child is not awaked. |
|
 4:31
And Gehaziº
passed onºº
beforeº
them, and laidººº
the staffº
uponº
the faceº
of the child;º
but [there was] neitherº
voice,º
norº
hearing.º
Wherefore he went againºº
to meetººº
him, and toldºº
him, saying,ºº
The childº
is notº
awaked.ºº |
 4:32
And Elisha{gr.Elisaie} went into the house, and, behold, the dead child was laid upon his bed. |
|
 4:32
And when Elishaº
was comeºº
into the house,º
behold,º
the childº
was dead,ºº
[and] laidºº
uponº
his bed.º |
 4:33
And Elisha{gr.Elisaie} went into the house, and shut the door upon themselves, the two, and prayed to the Lord. |
|
 4:33
He went inºº
therefore, and shutºº
the doorº
uponº
them twain,º
and prayedºº
untoº
Yahweh.º |
 4:34
And he went up, and lay upon the child, and put his mouth upon his mouth, and his eyes upon his eyes, and his hands upon his hands; and bowed himself upon him, and the flesh of the child grew warm. |
|
 4:34
And he went up,ºº
and layºº
uponº
the child,º
and putºº
his mouthº
uponº
his mouth,º
and his eyesº
uponº
his eyes,º
and his handsº
uponº
his hands:º
and he stretchedºº
himself uponº
the child; and the fleshº
of the childº
waxed warm.ºº |
 4:35
And he returned, and walked up and down in the house: and he went up, and bowed himself on the child seven times; and the child opened his eyes. |
|
 4:35
Then he returned,ºº
and walkedººº
in the houseº
toºº
and fro;ºº
and went up,ºº
and stretchedºº
himself uponº
him: and the childº
sneezedººº
sevenº
times,º
and the childº
openedººº
his eyes.º |
 4:36
And Elisha{gr.Elisaie} cried out to Gehazi{gr.Giezi}, and said, Call this Shunammite{gr.Somanite}. So he called her, and she came in to him: and Elisha{gr.Elisaie} said, Take thy son. |
|
 4:36
And he calledººº
Gehazi,º
and said,ºº
Callººº
thisº
Shunammite.º
So he calledºº
her. And when she was comeº
inºº
untoº
him, he said,ºº
Take upºº
thy son.º |
 4:37
And the woman went in, and fell at his feet, and did obeisance [bowing] to the ground; and she took her son, and went out. |
|
 4:37
Then she went in,ºº
and fellºº
atº
his feet,º
and bowedºº
herselfº
to the ground,º
and took upººº
her son,º
and went out.ºº |
 4:38 ¶
And Elisha{gr.Elisaie} returned to Gilgal{gr.Galgala}: and a famine [was] in the land; and the sons of the prophets sat before him: and Elisha{gr.Elisaie} said to his servant, Set on the great pot, and boil pottage for the sons of the prophets. |
|
 4:38 ¶
And Elishaº
came againºº
to Gilgal:º
and [there was] a dearthº
in the land;º
and the sonsº
of the prophetsº
[were] sittingºº
beforeº
him: and he saidºº
unto his servant,º
Setºº
onº
the greatº
pot,º
and seetheºº
pottageº
for the sonsº
of the prophets.º |
 4:39
And he went out into the field to gather herbs, and found a vine in the field, and gathered of it wild gourds, his garment full; and he cast it into the caldron of pottage, for they knew [them] not. |
|
 4:39
And oneº
went outºº
intoº
the fieldº
to gatherºº
herbs,º
and foundºº
a wildº
vine,º
and gatheredºº
thereofº
wildº
gourdsº
his lapº
full,º
and cameºº
and shredºº
[them] intoº
the potº
of pottage:º
forº
they knewºº
[them] not.º |
 4:40
And he poured it out for the men to eat: and it came to pass, when they were eating of the pottage, that lo! they cried out, and said, [There is] death in the pot, O man of God. And they could not eat. |
|
 4:40
So they poured outºº
for the menºº
to eat.ºº
And it came to pass,º
as they were eatingºº
of the pottage,ºº
that theyº
cried out,ºº
and said,ºº
O [thou] manº
of Elohim,º
[there is] deathº
in the pot.º
And they couldºº
notº
eatºº
[thereof]. |
 4:41
And he said, Take meal, and cast it into the pot. And Elisha{gr.Elisaie} said to his servant Gehazi{gr.Giezi}, Pour out for the people, and let them eat. And there was no longer there any hurtful thing in the pot. |
|
 4:41
But he said,ºº
Then bringºº
meal.º
And he castºº
[it] intoº
the pot;º
and he said,ºº
Pour outºº
for the people,º
that they may eat.ºº
And there wasº
noº
harmºº
in the pot.º |
 4:42 ¶
And there came a man over from Baetharisa, and brought to the man of God twenty barley loaves and cakes of figs, of the first-fruits. And he said, Give to the people, and let them eat. |
|
 4:42 ¶
And there cameºº
a manº
from Baalshalisha,ºº
and broughtºº
the manº
of Elohimº
breadº
of the firstfruits,º
twentyº
loavesº
of barley,º
and full ears of cornº
in the huskº
thereof. And he said,ºº
Giveºº
unto the people,º
that they may eat.ºº |
 4:43
And his servant said, Why should I set this before a hundred men? and he said, Give to the people, and let them eat; for thus saith the Lord, They shall eat and leave. |
|
 4:43
And his servitorºº
said,ºº
What,º
should I setºº
thisº
beforeº
an hundredº
men?º
He saidº
again,ºº
Giveºº
the people,º
that they may eat:ºº
forº
thusº
saithºº
Yahweh,º
They shall eat,ºº
and shall leaveºº
[thereof]. |
 4:44
And they ate and left, according to the word of the Lord. |
|
 4:44
So he setºº
[it] beforeº
them, and they did eat,ºº
and leftºº
[thereof], according to the wordº
of Yahweh.º |
