 23:1 ¶
So they reported the word to the king: and the king sent and gathered all the elders of Judah{gr.Juda} and Jerusalem to himself. |
|
 23:1 ¶
And the kingº
sent,ºº
and they gatheredºº
untoº
him allº
the eldersº
of Judahº
and of Jerusalem.º |
 23:2
And the king went up to the house of the Lord, and every man of Judah{gr.Juda} and all who dwelt in Jerusalem with him, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the people small and great; and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant that was found in the house of the Lord. |
|
 23:2
And the kingº
went upºº
into the houseº
of Yahweh,º
and allº
the menº
of Judahº
and allº
the inhabitantsºº
of Jerusalemº
withº
him, and the priests,º
and the prophets,º
and allº
the people,º
both smallºº
and great:º
and he readºº
in their earsºº
allº
the wordsº
of the bookº
of the covenantº
which was foundºº
in the houseº
of Yahweh.º |
 23:3 ¶
And the king stood by a pillar, and made a covenant before the Lord, to walk after the Lord, to keep his commandments and his testimonies and his ordinances with all the heart and with all the soul, to confirm the words of this covenant; [even] the things written in this book. And all the people stood to the covenant. |
|
 23:3 ¶
And the kingº
stoodºº
byº
a pillar,º
and madeººº
a covenantº
beforeº
Yahweh,º
to walkººº
afterº
Yahweh,º
and to keepºº
his commandmentsº
and his testimoniesº
and his statutesº
with allº
[their] heartº
and allº
[their] soul,º
to performººº
the wordsº
of thisº
covenantº
that were writtenºº
inº
thisº
book.º
And allº
the peopleº
stoodºº
to the covenant.º |
 23:4
And the king commanded Hilkiah{gr.Chelcias} the high priest, and the priests of the second order, and them that kept the door, to bring out of the temple of the Lord all the vessels that were made for Baal, and for the grove, and all the host of heaven, and he burned them without Jerusalem in the fields of Kidron{gr.Kedron}, and took the ashes of them to Bethel{gr.Baethel}. |
|
 23:4
And the kingº
commandedººº
Hilkiahº
the highº
priest,º
and the priestsº
of the second order,º
and the keepersºº
of the door,º
to bring forthºº
out of the templeºº
of Yahwehºº
allº
the vesselsº
that were madeºº
for Baal,º
and for the grove,º
and for allº
the hostº
of heaven:º
and he burnedºº
them withoutºº
Jerusalemº
in the fieldsº
of Kidron,º
and carriedººº
the ashesº
of them unto Bethel.º |
 23:5
And he burned the idolatrous priests, whom the kings of Judah{gr.Juda} [had] appointed, (and they burned incense in the high places and in the cities of Judah{gr.Juda}, and the places around about Jerusalem); and them that burned incense to Baal, and to the sun, and to the moon, and to Mazuroth, and to all the host of heaven. |
|
 23:5
And he put downººº
the idolatrous priests,º
whomº
the kingsº
of Judahº
had ordainedºº
to burn incenseºº
in the high placesº
in the citiesº
of Judah,º
and in the places round aboutº
Jerusalem;º
them also that burned incenseºº
unto Baal,º
to the sun,º
and to the moon,º
and to the planets,º
and to allº
the hostº
of heaven.º |
 23:6
And he carried out the grove from the house of the Lord to the brook Kidron{gr.Kedron}, and burned it at the brook Kidron{gr.Kedron}, and reduced it to powder, and cast its powder on the sepulchres of the sons of the people. |
|
 23:6
And he brought outººº
the groveº
from the houseºº
of Yahweh,º
withoutºº
Jerusalem,º
untoº
the brookº
Kidron,º
and burnedºº
it at the brookº
Kidron,º
and stamped [it] smallºº
to powder,º
and castººº
the powderº
thereof uponº
the gravesº
of the childrenº
of the people.º |
 23:7
And he pulled down the house of the sodomites that were by the house of the Lord, where the women wove tents for the grove. |
|
 23:7
And he brake downººº
the housesº
of the sodomites,º
thatº
[were] by the houseº
of Yahweh,º
whereºº
the womenº
woveºº
hangingsº
for the grove.º |
 23:8
And he brought up all the priest from the cities of Judah{gr.Juda}, and defiled the high places where the priests burned incense, from Ebal{gr.Gaebal} even to Beersheba{gr.Bersabee}; and he pulled down the house of the gates that was by the door of the gate of Joshua{gr.Jesus} the ruler of the city, on a man's left hand at the gate of the city. |
|
 23:8
And he broughtººº
allº
the priestsº
out of the citiesºº
of Judah,º
and defiledººº
the high placesº
whereºº
the priestsº
had burned incense,ºº
from Gebaºº
toº
Beersheba,º
and brake downººº
the high placesº
of the gatesº
thatº
[were] in the entering inº
of the gateº
of Joshuaº
the governorº
of the city,º
whichº
[were] onº
a man'sº
left handº
at the gateº
of the city.º |
 23:9
Only the priests of the high places went not up to the altar of the Lord in Jerusalem, for they only ate leavened bread in the midst of their brethren. |
|
 23:9
Neverthelessº
the priestsº
of the high placesº
came not upººº
toº
the altarº
of Yahwehº
in Jerusalem,º
butºº
they did eatºº
of the unleavened breadº
amongº
their brethren.º |
 23:10
And he defiled Tapheth which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom{gr.Ennom}, [constructed] for a man to cause his son or his daughter to pass through fire to Molech{gr.Moloch}. |
|
 23:10
And he defiledººº
Topheth,º
whichº
[is] in the valleyº
of the childrenºº
of Hinnom,º
that noº
manº
might makeº
his sonº
or his daughterº
to pass throughºº
the fireº
to Molech.º |
 23:11
And he burned the horses which the king of Judah{gr.Juda} had given to the sun in the entrance of the house of the Lord, by the treasury of Nathan the king's eunuch, in the suburbs; and he burned the chariot of the sun with fire. |
|
 23:11
And he took awayººº
the horsesº
thatº
the kingsº
of Judahº
had givenºº
to the sun,º
at the entering inººº
of the houseº
of Yahweh,º
byº
the chamberº
of Nathanmelechº
the chamberlain,º
whichº
[was] in the suburbs,º
and burnedºº
the chariotsº
of the sunº
with fire.º |
 23:12
And the altars that were on the roof of the upper chamber of Ahaz{gr.Achaz}, which the kings of Judah{gr.Juda} had made, and the altars which Manasseh{gr.Manasses} had made in the two courts of the house of the Lord, did the king pull down and forcibly remove from thence, and cast their dust into the brook of Kidron{gr.Kedron}. |
|
 23:12
And the altarsº
thatº
[were] onº
the topº
of the upper chamberº
of Ahaz,º
whichº
the kingsº
of Judahº
had made,ºº
and the altarsº
whichº
Manassehº
had madeºº
in the twoº
courtsº
of the houseº
of Yahweh,º
did the kingº
beat down,ºº
and brake [them] downºº
from thence,ºº
and castººº
the dustº
of them intoº
the brookº
Kidron.º |
 23:13
And the king defiled the house that was before Jerusalem, on the right hand of the mount of Mosthath, which Solomon king of Israel built to Ashtaroth{gr.Astarte} the abomination of the Zidonians{gr.Sidonians}, and to Chemosh{gr.Chamos} the abomination of Moab, and to Molech{gr.Moloch} the abomination of the children of Ammon. |
|
 23:13
And the high placesº
thatº
[were] beforeºº
Jerusalem,º
whichº
[were] on the right handºº
of the mountº
of corruption,º
whichº
Solomonº
the kingº
of Israelº
had buildedºº
for Ashtorethº
the abominationº
of the Zidonians,º
and for Chemoshº
the abominationº
of the Moabites,º
and for Milcomº
the abominationº
of the childrenº
of Ammon,º
did the kingº
defile.ºº |
 23:14
And he broke in pieces the pillars, and utterly destroyed the groves, and filled their places with the bones of men. |
|
 23:14
And he brake in piecesººº
the images,º
and cut downººº
the groves,º
and filledººº
their placesº
with the bonesº
of men.º |
 23:15 ¶
Also the high altar in Bethel{gr.Baethel}, which Jeroboam the son of Nebat{gr.Nabat}, who made Israel to sin, had made, even that high altar he tore down, and broke in pieces the stones of it, and reduced it to powder, and burnt the grove. |
|
 23:15 ¶
Moreoverºº
the altarº
thatº
[was] at Bethel,º
[and] the high placeº
whichº
Jeroboamº
the sonº
of Nebat,º
whoº
madeº
Israelº
to sin,ºº
had made,ºº
bothºº
thatº
altarº
and the high placeº
he brake down,ºº
and burnedººº
the high place,º
[and] stampedºº
[it] smallº
to powder,º
and burnedºº
the grove.º |
 23:16
And Josiah{gr.Josias} turned aside, and saw the tombs that were there in the city, and sent, and took the bones out of the tombs, and burnt them on the altar, and defiled it, according to the word of the Lord which the man of God spoke, when Jeroboam stood by the altar at the feast: and he turned and raised his eyes to the tomb of the man of God that spoke these words. |
|
 23:16
And as Josiahº
turnedºº
himself, he spiedººº
the sepulchresº
thatº
[were] thereº
in the mount,º
and sent,ºº
and tookººº
the bonesº
out ofº
the sepulchres,º
and burnedºº
[them] uponº
the altar,º
and pollutedºº
it, according to the wordº
of Yahwehº
whichº
the manº
of Elohimº
proclaimed,ºº
whoº
proclaimedººº
theseº
words.º |
 23:17
And he said, What [is] that mound which I see? And the men of the city said to him, [It is the grave of] the man of God that came out of Judah{gr.Juda}, and uttered these imprecations which he imprecated upon the altar of Bethel{gr.Baethel}. |
|
 23:17
Then he said,ºº
Whatº
titleº
[is] thatº
thatº
Iº
see?ºº
And the menºº
of the cityº
toldººº
him, [It is] the sepulchreº
of the manº
of Elohim,º
whichº
cameºº
from Judah,ºº
and proclaimedººº
theseº
thingsº
thatº
thou hast doneºº
againstº
the altarº
of Bethel.º |
 23:18
And he said, Let him alone; let no one disturb his bones. So his bones were spared, together with the bones of the prophet that came out of Samaria. |
|
 23:18
And he said,ºº
Let him alone;ººº
let noº
manº
moveºº
his bones.º
So they let his bonesº
alone,ººº
withº
the bonesº
of the prophetº
thatº
cameº
outºº
of Samaria.ºº |
 23:19
Moreover Josiah{gr.Josias} removed all the houses of the high places that were in the cities of Samaria, which the kings of Israel made to provoke the Lord, and did to them all that he did in Bethel{gr.Baethel}. |
|
 23:19
Andº
allº
the housesº
alsoº
of the high placesº
thatº
[were] in the citiesº
of Samaria,º
whichº
the kingsº
of Israelº
had madeºº
to provoke [Yahweh] to anger,ºº
Josiahº
took away,ºº
and didºº
to them according to allº
the actsº
thatº
he had doneºº
in Bethel.º |
 23:20
And he sacrificed all the priests of the high places that were there on the altars, and burnt the bones of men upon them, and returned to Jerusalem. |
|
 23:20
And he slewººº
allº
the priestsº
of the high placesº
thatº
[were] thereº
uponº
the altars,º
and burnedººº
men'sº
bonesº
uponº
them, and returnedºº
to Jerusalem.º |
 23:21 ¶
And the king commanded all the people, saying, Keep the passover to the Lord your God, as it is written in the book of this covenant. |
|
 23:21 ¶
And the kingº
commandedººº
allº
the people,º
saying,ºº
Keepºº
the passoverº
unto Yahwehº
your Elohim,º
as [it is] writtenºº
inº
the bookº
of thisº
covenant.º |
 23:22
For a passover [such as] this had not been kept from the days of the judges who judged Israel, even all the days of the kings of Israel, and of the kings of Judah{gr.Juda}. |
|
 23:22
Surelyº
there was notº
holdenºº
suchº
a passoverº
from the daysºº
of the judgesºº
thatº
judgedººº
Israel,º
nor in allº
the daysº
of the kingsº
of Israel,º
nor of the kingsº
of Judah;º |
 23:23
But in the eighteenth year of king Josiah{gr.Josias}, was the passover kept to the Lord in Jerusalem. |
|
 23:23
Butºº
in the eighteenthºº
yearº
of kingº
Josiah,º
[wherein] thisº
passoverº
was holdenºº
to Yahwehº
in Jerusalem.º |
 23:24 ¶
Moreover Josiah{gr.Josias} removed the sorcerers, and the wizards, and the theraphin, and the idols, and all the abominations that had been set up in the land of Judah{gr.Juda} and in Jerusalem, that he might keep the words of the law that were written in the book, which Hilkiah{gr.Chelcias} the priest found in the house of the Lord. |
|
 23:24 ¶
Moreoverºº
the [workers with] familiar spirits,º
and the wizards,º
and the images,º
and the idols,º
and allº
the abominationsº
thatº
were spiedºº
in the landº
of Judahº
and in Jerusalem,º
did Josiahº
put away,ºº
thatº
he might performººº
the wordsº
of the lawº
which were writtenºº
inº
the bookº
thatº
Hilkiahº
the priestº
foundºº
in the houseº
of Yahweh.º |
 23:25
There was no king like him before him, who turned to the Lord with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his strength, according to all the law of Mosheh{gr.Moses}; and after him there rose not one like him. |
|
 23:25
And like unto himº
wasº
there noº
kingº
beforeº
him, thatº
turnedºº
toº
Yahwehº
with allº
his heart,º
and with allº
his soul,º
and with allº
his might,º
according to allº
the lawº
of Moses;º
neitherº
afterº
him aroseºº
there [any] like him.º |
 23:26 ¶
Nevertheless the Lord turned not from the fierceness of his great anger, wherewith he was wroth in his anger against Judah{gr.Juda}, because of the provocations, wherewith Manasseh{gr.Manasses} provoked him. |
|
 23:26 ¶
Notwithstandingº
Yahwehº
turnedºº
notº
from the fiercenessºº
of his greatº
wrath,º
wherewithº
his angerº
was kindledºº
against Judah,º
becauseº
of allº
the provocationsº
thatº
Manassehº
had provokedºº
him withal. |
 23:27
And the Lord said, I will also remove Judah{gr.Juda} from my presence, as I removed Israel, and will reject this city which I have chosen [even] Jerusalem, and the house [of] which I said, My name shall be there. |
|
 23:27
And Yahwehº
said,ºº
I will removeººº
Judahº
alsoº
out ofºº
my sight,º
asº
I have removedººº
Israel,º
and will cast offººº
thisº
cityºº
Jerusalemº
whichº
I have chosen,ºº
and the houseº
of whichº
I said,ºº
My nameº
shall beº
there.º |
 23:28
And the rest of the acts of Josiah{gr.Josias}, and all that he did, [are] not these things written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah{gr.Juda}? |
|
 23:28
Now the restº
of the actsº
of Josiah,º
and allº
thatº
he did,ºº
[are] theyº
notº
writtenºº
inº
the bookº
of the chroniclesºº
of the kingsº
of Judah?º |
 23:29 ¶
And in his days went up Pharaoh{gr.Pharao} Nechoh{gr.Nechao} king of Mizraim{gr.Egypt} against the king of the Assyrians to the river Euphrates: and Josiah{gr.Josias} went out to meet him: and Nechoh{gr.Nechao} slew him in Megiddo{gr.Mageddo} when he saw him. |
|
 23:29 ¶
In his daysº
Pharaohnechohº
kingº
of Egyptº
went upºº
againstº
the kingº
of Assyriaº
toº
the riverº
Euphrates:º
and kingº
Josiahº
wentººº
againstººº
him; and he slewºº
him at Megiddo,º
when he had seenºº
him. |
 23:30
And his servants carried him dead from Megiddo{gr.Mageddo}, and brought him to Jerusalem, and buried him in his sepulchre: and the people of the land took Jehoahaz{gr.Joachaz} the son of Josiah{gr.Josias}, and anointed him, and made him king in the room of his father. |
|
 23:30
And his servantsº
carriedº
him in a chariotºº
deadºº
from Megiddo,ºº
and broughtºº
him to Jerusalem,º
and buriedºº
him in his own sepulchre.º
And the peopleº
of the landº
tookººº
Jehoahazº
the sonº
of Josiah,º
and anointedºº
him, and made him kingººº
in his father'sº
stead.ºº |
 23:31 ¶
Twenty and three years old was Jehoahaz{gr.Joachaz} when he began to reign, and he reigned three months in Jerusalem: and his mother's name [was] Amital, daughter of Jeremiah{gr.Jeremias} of Libnah{gr.Lobna}. |
|
 23:31 ¶
Jehoahazº
[was] twentyº
and threeº
yearsº
oldº
when he began to reign;ºº
and he reignedºº
threeº
monthsº
in Jerusalem.º
And his mother'sº
nameº
[was] Hamutal,º
the daughterº
of Jeremiahº
of Libnah.ºº |
 23:32
And he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, according to all that his fathers did. |
|
 23:32
And he didºº
[that which was] evilº
in the sightº
of Yahweh,º
according to allº
thatº
his fathersº
had done.ºº |
 23:33
And Pharaoh{gr.Pharao} Nechoh{gr.Nechao} removed him to Rablaam in the land of Hamath{gr.Emath}, so that he should not reign in Jerusalem; and imposed a tribute on the land, a hundred talents of silver, and a hundred talents of gold. |
|
 23:33
And Pharaohnechohº
put him in bandsºº
at Riblahº
in the landº
of Hamath,º
that he might not reignººº
in Jerusalem;º
and putººº
the landº
to a tributeº
of an hundredº
talentsº
of silver,º
and a talentº
of gold.º |
 23:34
And Pharaoh{gr.Pharao} Nechoh{gr.Nechao} made Eliakim son of Josiah{gr.Josias} king of Judah{gr.Juda} king over them in the place of his father Josiah{gr.Josias}, and he changed his name [to] Jehoiakim{gr.Joakim}, and he took Jehoahaz{gr.Joachaz} and brought him to Mizraim{gr.Egypt}, and he died there. |
|
 23:34
And Pharaohnechohº
madeºº
Eliakimº
the sonº
of Josiahº
kingºº
in the roomº
of Josiahº
his father,º
and turnedººº
his nameº
to Jehoiakim,º
and tookºº
Jehoahazº
away:ºº
and he cameºº
to Egypt,º
and diedºº
there.º |
 23:35
And Jehoiakim{gr.Joakim} gave the silver and the gold to Pharaoh{gr.Pharao}; but he assessed the land to give the money at the command of Pharaoh{gr.Pharao}: they gave the silver and the gold [each] man according to his assessment together with the people of the land to give to Pharaoh{gr.Pharao} Nechoh{gr.Nechao}. |
|
 23:35
And Jehoiakimº
gaveºº
the silverº
and the goldº
to Pharaoh;º
butº
he taxedººº
the landº
to giveººº
the moneyº
accordingº
to the commandmentº
of Pharaoh:º
he exactedººº
the silverº
and the goldº
ofº
the peopleº
of the land,º
of every oneº
according to his taxation,º
to giveºº
[it] unto Pharaohnechoh.º |
 23:36 ¶
Twenty-five years old [was] Jehoiakim{gr.Joakim} when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem: and his mother's name [was] Jeldaph, daughter of Phadail of Ruma. |
|
 23:36 ¶
Jehoiakimº
[was] twentyº
and fiveº
yearsº
oldº
when he began to reign;ºº
and he reignedºº
elevenºº
yearsº
in Jerusalem.º
And his mother'sº

of Pedaiahº
ofº
Rumah.º |
 23:37
And he did that which was evil in the eyes of the lord, according to all that his fathers had done. |

 23:37
And he didºº
[that which was] evilº
in the sightº
of Yahweh,º
according to allº
thatº
his fathersº
had done.ºº |
