 4:1 ¶
And the children of Israel continued to do evil against the Lord; and Ehud{gr.Aod} was dead. |
|
 4:1 ¶
And the childrenº
of Israelº
againºº
didºº
evilº
in the sightº
of Yahweh,º
when Ehudºº
was dead.ºº |
 4:2
And the Lord sold the children of Israel into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan{gr.Chanaan}, who ruled in Hazor{gr.Asor}; and the chief of his host was Sisera{gr.Sisara}, and he dwelt in Arisoth of the Gentiles. |
|
 4:2
And Yahwehº
soldºº
them into the handº
of Jabinº
kingº
of Canaan,º
thatº
reignedºº
in Hazor;º
the captainº
of whose hostº
[was] Sisera,º
whichº
dweltºº
in Haroshethº
of the Gentiles.ºº |
 4:3
And the children of Israel cried to the Lord, because he had nine hundred chariots of iron; and he mightily oppressed Israel twenty years. |
|
 4:3
And the childrenº
of Israelº
criedºº
untoº
Yahweh:º
forº
he had nineº
hundredº
chariotsº
of iron;º
and twentyº
yearsº
heº
mightilyºº
oppressedººº
the childrenº
of Israel.º |
 4:4 ¶
And Deborah{gr.Debbora}, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth,-- she judged Israel at that time. |
|
 4:4 ¶
And Deborah,º
a prophetess,ºº
the wifeº
of Lapidoth,º
sheº
judgedººº
Israelº
at thatº
time.º |
 4:5
And she sat under the palm-tree of Deborah{gr.Debbora} between Ramah{gr.Rama} and Bethel{gr.Baethel} in mount Ephraim; and the children of Israel went up to her for judgement. |
|
 4:5
And sheº
dweltºº
underº
the palm treeº
of Deborahº
betweenº
Ramahº
and Bethelº
in mountº
Ephraim:º
and the childrenº
of Israelº
came upºº
toº
her for judgment.º |
 4:6
And Deborah{gr.Debbora} sent and called Barak{gr.Barac} the son of Abineem out of Kadesh{gr.Cades} Naphtali{gr.Nephthali}, and she said to him, Has not the Lord God of Israel commanded thee? and thou shalt depart to mount Tabor{gr.Thabor}, and shalt take with thyself ten thousand men of the sons of Naphtali{gr.Nephthali} and of the sons of Zebulun{gr.Zabulon}. |
|
 4:6
And she sentºº
and calledºº
Barakº
the sonº
of Abinoamº
out of Kedeshnaphtali,ººº
and saidºº
untoº
him, Hath notº
Yahwehº
Elohimº
of Israelº
commanded,ºº
[saying], Goººº
and drawºº
toward mountº
Tabor,º
and takeºº
withº
thee tenº
thousandº
menº
of the childrenºº
of Naphtaliº
and of the childrenºº
of Zebulun?º |
 4:7
And I will bring to thee to the torrent of Kishon{gr.Kison} Sisera{gr.Sisara} the captain of the host of Jabin, and his chariots, and his multitude, and I will deliver them into thine hands. |
|
 4:7
And I will drawºº
untoº
thee toº
the riverº
Kishonºº
Sisera,º
the captainº
of Jabin'sº
army,º
with his chariotsº
and his multitude;º
and I will deliverºº
him into thine hand.º |
 4:8
And Barak{gr.Barac} said to her, If thou wilt go with me, I will go; and if thou wilt not go, I will not go; for I know not the day on which the Lord prospers his messenger with me. |
|
 4:8
And Barakº
saidºº
untoº
her, Ifº
thou wilt goººº
withº
me, then I will go:ºº
but ifº
thou wilt notº
goººº
withº
me, [then] I will notº
go.ººº |
 4:9
And she said, I will surely go with thee; but know that thy honour shall not attend on the expedition on which thou goest, for the Lord shall sell Sisera{gr.Sisara} into the hands of a women: and Deborah{gr.Debbora} arose, and went with Barak{gr.Barac} out of Kadesh{gr.Cades}. |
|
 4:9
And she said,ºº
I will surelyºº
goººº
withº
thee: notwithstandingººº
the journeyº
thatº
thouº
takestºº
shall notº
beº
for thine honour;º
forº
Yahwehº
shall sellººº
Siseraº
into the handº
of a woman.º
And Deborahº
arose,ºº
and wentººº
withº
Barakº
to Kedesh.º |
 4:10 ¶
And Barak{gr.Barac} called Zebulun{gr.Zabulon} and Naphtali{gr.Nephthali} out of Kadesh{gr.Cades}, and there went up at his feet ten thousand men, and Deborah{gr.Debbora} went up with him. |
|
 4:10 ¶
And Barakº
calledººº
Zebulunº
and Naphtaliº
to Kedesh;º
and he went upºº
with tenº
thousandº
menº
at his feet:º
and Deborahº
went upºº
withº
him. |
 4:11
And Heber{gr.Chaber} the Kenite had removed from Caina, from the sons of Jobab the father-in-law of Mosheh{gr.Moses}, and pitched his tent by the oak of the covetous ones, which is near Kedes. |
|
 4:11
Now Heberº
the Kenite,ºº
[which was] of the childrenºº
of Hobabº
the father in lawºº
of Moses,º
had severedºº
himselfº
from the Kenites,ºº
and pitchedºº
his tentº
untoº
the plainº
of Zaanaim,º
whichº
[is] byº
Kedesh.º |
 4:12
And it was told Sisera{gr.Sisara} that Barak{gr.Barac} the son of Abineem was gone up to mount Tabor{gr.Thabor}. |
|
 4:12
And they shewedºº
Siseraº
thatº
Barakº
the sonº
of Abinoamº
was gone upºº
to mountº
Tabor.º |
 4:13
And Sisera{gr.Sisara} summoned all his chariots, nine hundred chariots of iron and all the people with him, from Arisoth of the Gentiles to the brook of Kishon{gr.Kison}. |
|
 4:13
And Siseraº
gathered togetherººº
allº
his chariots,º
[even] nineº
hundredº
chariotsº
of iron,º
and allº
the peopleº
thatº
[were] withº
him, from Haroshethº
of the Gentilesººº
untoº
the riverº
of Kishon.º |
 4:14
And Deborah{gr.Debbora} said to Barak{gr.Barac}, Rise up, for this [is] the day on which the Lord has delivered Sisera{gr.Sisara} into thy hand, for the Lord shall go forth before thee: and Barak{gr.Barac} went down from mount Tabor{gr.Thabor}, and ten thousand men after him. |
|
 4:14
And Deborahº
saidºº
untoº
Barak,º
Up;ºº
forº
thisº
[is] the dayº
in whichº
Yahwehº
hath deliveredººº
Siseraº
into thine hand:º
is notº
Yahwehº
gone outºº
beforeº
thee? So Barakº
went downºº
from mountºº
Tabor,º
and tenº
thousandº
menº
afterº
him. |
 4:15
And the Lord discomfited Sisera{gr.Sisara}, and all his chariots, and all his army, with the edge of the sword before Barak{gr.Barac}: and Sisera{gr.Sisara} descended from off his chariot, and fled on his feet. |
|
 4:15
And Yahwehº
discomfitedººº
Sisera,º
and allº
[his] chariots,º
and allº
[his] host,º
with the edgeº
of the swordº
beforeº
Barak;º
so that Siseraº
lighted downºº
offºº
[his] chariot,º
and fled awayºº
on his feet.º |
 4:16
And Barak{gr.Barac} pursued after the chariots and after the army, into Arisoth of the Gentiles; and the whole army of Sisera{gr.Sisara} fell by the edge of the sword, there was not one left. |
|
 4:16
But Barakº
pursuedºº
afterº
the chariots,º
and afterº
the host,º
untoº
Haroshethº
of the Gentiles:ºº
and allº
the hostº
of Siseraº
fellºº
upon the edgeº
of the sword;º
[and] there was notº
a manº
left.ºº |
 4:17
And Sisera{gr.Sisara} fled on his feet to the tent of Jael the wife of Heber{gr.Chaber} the Kenite his friend: for there was peace between Jabin king of Hazor{gr.Asor} and the house of Heber{gr.Chaber} the Kenite. |
|
 4:17
Howbeit Siseraº
fled awayºº
on his feetº
toº
the tentº
of Jaelº
the wifeº
of Heberº
the Kenite:º
forº
[there was] peaceº
betweenº
Jabinº
the kingº
of Hazorº
and the houseº
of Heberº
the Kenite.º |
 4:18 ¶
And Jael went, out to meet Sisera{gr.Sisara}, and said to him, Turn aside, my lord, turn aside to me, fear not: and he turned aside to her into the tent; and she covered him with a mantle. |
|
 4:18 ¶
And Jaelº
went outºº
to meetºº
Sisera,º
and saidºº
untoº
him, Turn in,ºº
my adon,º
turn inºº
toº
me; fearºº
not.º
And when he had turned inºº
untoº
her into the tent,º
she coveredºº
him with a mantle.º |
 4:19
And Sisera{gr.Sisara} said to her, Give me, I pray thee, a little water to drink, for I am thirsty: and she opened a bottle of milk, and gave him to drink, and covered him. |
|
 4:19
And he saidºº
untoº
her, Give me, I pray thee,º
a littleº
waterº
to drink;ºº
forº
I am thirsty.ºº
And she openedººº
a bottleº
of milk,º
and gave him drink,ºº
and coveredºº
him. |
 4:20
And Sisera{gr.Sisara} said to her, Stand now by the door of the tent, and it shall come to pass if any man come to thee, and ask of thee, and say, Is there [any] man here? then thou shalt say, There is not. |
|
 4:20
Again he saidºº
untoº
her, Standº
inºº
the doorº
of the tent,º
and it shall be,º
whenº
any manº
doth comeºº
and enquireºº
of thee, and say,ºº
Isº
thereºº
any manº
here?ºº
that thou shalt say,ºº
No.º |
 4:21
And Jael the wife of Heber{gr.Chaber} took a pin of the tent, and took a hammer in her hand, and went secretly to him, and fastened the pin in his temple, and it went through to the earth, and he fainted away, and darkness fell upon him and he died. |
|
 4:21
Then Jaelº
Heber'sº
wifeº
tookººº
a nailº
of the tent,º
and tookººº
an hammerº
in her hand,º
and wentºº
softlyº
untoº
him, and smoteººº
the nailº
into his temples,ºº
and fastenedºº
it into the ground:º
for heº
was fast asleepºº
and weary.ºº
So he died.ºº |
 4:22
And, behold, Barak{gr.Barac} [was] pursuing Sisera{gr.Sisara}: and Jael went out to meet him, and he said to him, Come, and I will shew thee the man whom thou seekest: and he went in to her; and, behold, Sisera{gr.Sisara} was fallen dead, and the pin [was] in his temple. |
|
 4:22
And, behold,º
as Barakº
pursuedººº
Sisera,º
Jaelº
came outºº
to meetºº
him, and saidºº
unto him, Come,ººº
and I will shewºº
theeº
the manº
whomº
thouº
seekest.ºº
And when he cameºº
intoº
her [tent], behold,º
Siseraº
layºº
dead,ºº
and the nailº
[was] in his temples.ºº |
 4:23
So God routed Jabin king of Canaan{gr.Chanaan} in that day before the children of Israel. |
|
 4:23
So Elohimº
subduedºº
on thatº
dayºº
Jabinº
the kingº
of Canaanº
beforeº
the childrenº
of Israel.º |
 4:24
And the hand of the children of Israel prevailed more and more against Jabin king of Canaan{gr.Chanaan}, until they utterly destroyed Jabin king of Canaan{gr.Chanaan}. |
|
 4:24
And the handº
of the childrenº
of Israelº
prospered,ºººº
and prevailedºº
againstº
Jabinº
the kingº
of Canaan,º
untilºº
they had destroyedººº
Jabinº
kingº
of Canaan.º |
