 7:1 ¶
And Jerubbaal{gr.Jerobaal} rose early, the same is Gideon{gr.Gedeon}, and all the people with him, and encamped at the fountain of Arad; and the camp of Midian{gr.Madiam} was to the north of him, [reaching] from Gabaathamorai, in the valley. |
|
 7:1 ¶
Then Jerubbaal,º
whoº
[is] Gideon,º
and allº
the peopleº
thatº
[were] withº
him, rose up early,ºº
and pitchedºº
besideº
the wellº
of Harod:º
so that the hostº
of the Midianitesº
wereº
on the north sideºº
of them, by the hillºº
of Moreh,º
in the valley.º |
 7:2
And the Lord said to Gideon{gr.Gedeon}, The people with thee [are] many, so that I may not deliver Midian{gr.Madiam} into their hand, lest at any time Israel boast against me, saying, My hand has saved me. |
|
 7:2
And Yahwehº
saidºº
untoº
Gideon,º
The peopleº
thatº
[are] withº
thee [are] too manyº
for me to giveººº
the Midianitesº
into their hands,º
lestº
Israelº
vauntºº
themselvesº
againstº
me, saying,ºº
Mine own handº
hath savedºº
me. |
 7:3
And now speak in the ears of the people, saying, Who [is] afraid and fearful? let him turn and depart from mount Gilead{gr.Galaad}: and there returned of the people twenty-two thousand, and ten thousand were left. |
|
 7:3
Nowº
therefore go to,º
proclaimºº
in the earsº
of the people,º
saying,ºº
Whosoeverº
[is] fearfulº
and afraid,º
let him returnºº
and depart earlyºº
from mountºº
Gilead.º
And there returnedºº
ofº
the peopleº
twentyº
and twoº
thousand;º
and there remainedºº
tenº
thousand.º |
 7:4
And the Lord said to Gideon{gr.Gedeon}, The people is yet numerous; bring them down to the water, and I will purge them there for thee: and it shall come to pass that of whomsoever I shall say to thee, This one shall go with thee, [even] he shall go with thee; and of whomsoever I shall say to thee, This one shall not go with thee, [even] he shall not go with thee. |
|
 7:4
And Yahwehº
saidºº
untoº
Gideon,º
The peopleº
[are] yetº
[too] many;º
bring them downººº
untoº
the water,º
and I will tryºº
them for thee there:º
and it shall be,º
[that] of whomº
I sayºº
untoº
thee, Thisº
shall goººº
withº
thee, the sameº
shall goººº
withº
thee; and of whomsoeverºº
I sayºº
untoº
thee, Thisº
shall notº
goººº
withº
thee, the sameº
shall notº
go.ººº |
 7:5
And he brought the people down to the water; and the Lord said to Gideon{gr.Gedeon}, Whosoever shall lap of the water with his tongue as if a dog should lap, thou shalt set him apart, and [also] whosoever shall bow down upon his knees to drink. |
|
 7:5
So he brought downººº
the peopleº
untoº
the water:º
and Yahwehº
saidºº
untoº
Gideon,º
Every oneº
thatº
lappethºº
ofº
the waterº
with his tongue,º
asº
a dogº
lappeth,ºº
him shalt thou setºº
by himself;º
likewise every oneº
thatº
boweth downºº
uponº
his kneesº
to drink.ºº |
 7:6
And the number of those that lapped with their hand to their mouth was three hundred men; and all the rest of the people bowed upon their knees to drink water. |
|
 7:6
And the numberº
of them that lapped,ºº
[putting] their handº
toº
their mouth,º
wereº
threeº
hundredº
men:º
but allº
the restº
of the peopleº
bowed downºº
uponº
their kneesº
to drinkºº
water.º |
 7:7
And the Lord said to Gideon{gr.Gedeon}, I will save you by the three hundred men that lapped, and I will give Midian{gr.Madiam} into thy hand; and all the [rest of the] people shall go every one to his place. |
|
 7:7
And Yahwehº
saidºº
untoº
Gideon,º
By the threeº
hundredº
menº
that lappedºº
will I saveºº
you, and deliverººº
the Midianitesº
into thine hand:º
and let allº
the [other] peopleº
goººº
every manº
unto his place.º |
 7:8
And they took the provision of the people in their hand, and their horns; and he sent away every man of Israel each to his tent, and he strengthened the three hundred; and the army of Midian{gr.Madiam} were beneath him in the valley. |
|
 7:8
So the peopleº
tookººº
victualsº
in their hand,º
and their trumpets:º
and he sentºº
allºº
[the rest of] Israelº
every manº
unto his tent,º
and retainedºº
those threeº
hundredº
men:º
and the hostº
of Midianº
wasº
beneathºº
him in the valley.º |
 7:9 ¶
And it came to pass in that night that the Lord said to him, Arise, go down into the camp, for I have delivered it into thy hand. |
|
 7:9 ¶
And it came to passº
the sameº
night,º
that Yahwehº
saidºº
untoº
him, Arise,ºº
get thee downºº
unto the host;º
forº
I have deliveredºº
it into thine hand.º |
 7:10
And if thou art afraid to go down, go down thou and thy servant Phara into the camp. |
|
 7:10
But ifº
thouº
fearºº
to go down,ºº
goºº
thouº
with Phurahº
thy servantº
downºº
toº
the host:º |
 7:11
And thou shalt hear what they shall say, and afterwards thy hands shall be strong, and thou shalt go down into the camp: and he went down and Phara his servant to the extremity of the [companies of] fifty, which were in the camp. |
|
 7:11
And thou shalt hearºº
whatº
they say;ºº
and afterwardº
shall thine handsº
be strengthenedºº
to go downºº
unto the host.º
Then went he downºº
with Phurahº
his servantº
untoº
the outsideº
of the armed menº
thatº
[were] in the host.º |
 7:12
And Midian{gr.Madiam} and Amalek{gr.Amalec} and all the children of the east [were] scattered in the valley, as the locust for multitude; and there was no number to their camels, but they were as the sand on the seashore for multitude. |
|
 7:12
And the Midianitesº
and the Amalekitesºº
and allº
the childrenº
of the eastº
layºº
along in the valleyº
like grasshoppersº
for multitude;º
and their camelsº
[were] withoutº
number,º
as the sandº
byºº
the seaº
sideº
for multitude.º |
 7:13
And Gideon{gr.Gedeon} came, and behold a man [was] relating to his neighbour a dream, and he said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream, and behold, a cake of barley bread rolling into the camp of Midian{gr.Madiam}, and it came as far as a tent, and smote it, and it fell, and it turned it up, and the tent fell. |
|
 7:13
And when Gideonº
was come,ºº
behold,º
[there was] a manº
that toldºº
a dreamº
unto his fellow,º
and said,ºº
Behold,º
I dreamedºº
a dream,º
and, lo,º
a cakeºº
of barleyº
breadº
tumbledºº
into the hostº
of Midian,º
and cameºº
untoº
a tent,º
and smoteºº
it that it fell,ºº
and overturnedººº
it, that the tentº
lay along.ºº |
 7:14
And his neighbour answered and said, This is none other than the sword of Gideon{gr.Gedeon}, son of Joash{gr.Joas}, a man of Israel: God has delivered Midian{gr.Madiam} and all the host into his hand. |
|
 7:14
And his fellowº
answeredºº
and said,ºº
Thisº
[is] nothing elseº
saveºº
the swordº
of Gideonº
the sonº
of Joash,º
a manº
of Israel:º
[for] into his handº
hath Elohimº
deliveredººº
Midian,º
and allº
the host.º |
 7:15 ¶
And it came to pass when Gideon{gr.Gedeon} heard the account of the dream and the interpretation of it, that he worshipped the Lord, and returned to the camp of Israel, and said, Rise, for the Lord has delivered the camp of Midian{gr.Madiam} into our hand. |
|
 7:15 ¶
And it wasº
[so], when Gideonº
heardººº
the tellingº
of the dream,º
and the interpretationº
thereof, that he worshipped,ºº
and returnedºº
intoº
the hostº
of Israel,º
and said,ºº
Arise;ºº
forº
Yahwehº
hath deliveredºº
into your handºº
the hostº
of Midian.º |
 7:16
And he divided the three hundred men into three companies, and put horns in the hands of all, and empty pitchers, and torches in the pitchers: |
|
 7:16
And he dividedººº
the threeº
hundredº
menº
[into] threeº
companies,º
and he putºº
a trumpetº
in every man'sº
hand,º
with emptyº
pitchers,º
and lampsº
withinº
the pitchers.º |
 7:17
and he said to them, Ye shall look at me, and so shall ye do; and behold, I will go into the beginning of the host, and it shall come to pass [that] as I do, so shall ye do. |
|
 7:17
And he saidºº
untoº
them, Lookºº
onº
me, and doºº
likewise:º
and, behold,º
when Iº
comeºº
to the outsideº
of the camp,º
it shall beº
[that], asº
I do,ºº
soº
shall ye do.ºº |
 7:18
And I will sound with the horn, and all ye with me shall sound with the horn round about the whole camp, and ye shall say, For the Lord and Gideon{gr.Gedeon}. |
|
 7:18
When I blowºº
with a trumpet,º
Iº
and allº
thatº
[are] withº
me, then blowºº
yeº
the trumpetsº
alsoº
on every sideº
of allº
the camp,º
and say,ºº
[The sword] of Yahweh,º
and of Gideon.º |
 7:19 ¶
And Gideon{gr.Gedeon} and the hundred men that were with him came to the extremity of the army in the beginning of the middle watch; and they completely roused the guards, and sounded with the horns, and they broke the pitchers that were in their hands, |
|
 7:19 ¶
So Gideon,º
and the hundredº
menº
thatº
[were] withº
him, cameºº
unto the outsideº
of the campº
in the beginningº
of the middleº
watch;º
and they had butº
newlyºº
setººº
the watch:ºº
and they blewºº
the trumpets,º
and brakeºº
the pitchersº
thatº
[were] in their hands.º |
 7:20
and the three companies sounded with the horns, and broke the pitchers, and held the torches in their left hands, and in their right hands their horns to sound with; and they cried out, A sword for the Lord and for Gideon{gr.Gedeon}. |
|
 7:20
And the threeº
companiesº
blewºº
the trumpets,º
and brakeºº
the pitchers,º
and heldºº
the lampsº
in their leftº
hands,º
and the trumpetsº
in their rightº
handsº
to blowºº
[withal]: and they cried,ºº
The swordº
of Yahweh,º
and of Gideon.º |
 7:21
And [every] man stood in his place round about the host; and all the host ran, and sounded [an alarm], and fled. |
|
 7:21
And they stoodºº
every manº
in his placeº
round aboutº
the camp:º
and allº
the hostº
ran,ºº
and cried,ºº
and fled.ºººº |
 7:22
And they sounded with the three hundred horns; and the Lord set [every] man's sword in all the host against his neighbour. |
|
 7:22
And the threeº
hundredº
blewºº
the trumpets,º
and Yahwehº
setººº
every man'sº
swordº
against his fellow,º
even throughout allº
the host:º
and the hostº
fledºº
toº
Bethshittahº
in Zererath,º
[and] toº
the borderº
of Abelmeholah,º
untoº
Tabbath.º |
 7:23
And the host fled as far as Bethseed Tagaragatha Abel-meula to Tabath; and the men of Israel from Naphtali{gr.Nephthali}, and from Asher{gr.Aser}, and from all Manasseh{gr.Manasse}, came to help, and followed after Midian{gr.Madiam}. |
|
 7:23
And the menº
of Israelº
gathered themselves togetherºº
out of Naphtali,ºº
and out ofº
Asher,º
and out ofº
allº
Manasseh,º
and pursuedºº
afterº
the Midianites.º |
 7:24 ¶
And Gideon{gr.Gedeon} sent messengers into all mount Ephraim, saying, Come down to meet Midian{gr.Madiam}, and take to yourselves the water as far as Baethera and Jordan: and every man of Ephraim cried out, and they took the water before hand unto Baethera and Jordan. |
|
 7:24 ¶
And Gideonº
sentºº
messengersº
throughout allº
mountº
Ephraim,º
saying,ºº
Come downºº
againstºº
the Midianites,º
and takeºº
before themº
the watersº
untoº
Bethbarahº
and Jordan.º
Then allº
the menº
of Ephraimº
gathered themselves together,ºº
and tookººº
the watersº
untoº
Bethbarahº
and Jordan.º |
 7:25
And they took the princes of Midian{gr.Madiam}, even Oreb and Zeeb{gr.Zeb}; and they slew Oreb in Shur{gr.Sur} Oreb, and they slew Zeeb{gr.Zeb} in Jakephzeph; and they pursued Midian{gr.Madiam}, and brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb{gr.Zeb} to Gideon{gr.Gedeon} from beyond Jordan. |
|
 7:25
And they tookºº
twoº
princesº
of the Midianites,ºº
Orebº
and Zeeb;º
and they slewººº
Orebº
upon the rockº
Oreb,º
and Zeebº
they slewºº
at the winepressº
of Zeeb,º
and pursuedººº
Midian,º
and broughtºº
the headsº
of Orebº
and Zeebº
toº
Gideonº
on the other sideºº
Jordan.º |
