10:1 ¶
Now the Pelishtim fought against Yisrael; and the men of Yisrael fled from before the Pelishtim, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa. |

שָׁאוּל,º
and afterº
his sons;º
and the
Pælištîm
פְּלִשׁתִּיםº
slewººº

אֲבִינָדָב,º
and
Malcî Šûå`
מַלכִּי־שׁוּעַ,º
the sonsº
of
Šä´ûl
שָׁאוּל.º |

And the Pelishtim followed hard after Shaul, and after his sons; and the Pelishtim slew Yehonathan, and Avinadav, and Malki-Shua, the sons of Shaul. |

And the battleº
went soreºº
againstº
Šä´ûl
שָׁאוּל,º
and the archersººº
hitºº
him, and he was woundedºº
ofº
the archers.ºº |

And the battle went sore against Shaul, and the archers hit him, and he was wounded of the archers. |

Then saidºº

שָׁאוּלº
toº
his armourbearer,ººº
Drawºº
thy sword,º
and thrustºº
me throughº
therewith; lestº
theseº
uncircumcisedº
comeºº
and abuseºº
me. But his armourbearerººº
wouldºº
not;º
forº
he was soreº
afraid.ººº
So
Šä´ûl
שָׁאוּלº
tookººº
a sword,º
and fellºº
uponº
it. |

Then said Shaul to his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. So Shaul took a sword, and fell upon it. |

And when his armourbearerººº
sawºº
thatº
Šä´ûl
שָׁאוּלº
was dead,ºº
heº
fellºº
likewiseº
onº
the sword,º
and died.ºº |

And when his armourbearer saw that Shaul was dead, he fell likewise on the sword, and died. |

and his threeº
sons,º
and allº
his houseº
diedºº
together.º |

So Shaul died, and his three sons, and all his house died together. |

[were] in the valleyº

they fled,ºº

and his sonsº
were dead,ºº
then they forsookºº
their cities,º
and fled:ºº

פְּלִשׁתִּיםº
cameºº
and dweltºº
in them. |

And when all the men of Yisrael that [were] in the valley saw that they fled, and that Shaul and his sons were dead, then they forsook their cities, and fled: and the Pelishtim came and dwelt in them. |

And it came to passº
onº
the morrow,º
when the
Pælištîm
פְּלִשׁתִּיםº
cameºº
to stripººº
the slain,º
that they foundººº
Šä´ûl
שָׁאוּלº
and his sonsº
fallenºº
in mountº
Gilböå`
גִּלבֹּעַ.º |

10:8 ¶
And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Pelishtim came to strip the slain, that they found Shaul and his sons fallen in mount Gilboa. |

And when they had strippedºº
him, they tookººº
his head,º
and his armour,º
and sentºº
into the landº
of the
Pælištîm
פְּלִשׁתִּיםº
round about,º
to carry tidingsººº
unto their idols,º
and to the people.º |

And when they had stripped him, they took his head, and his armour, and sent into the land of the Pelishtim round about, to carry tidings unto their idols, and to the people. |
|

And they putººº
his armourº
in the houseº
of their
´élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים,º
and fastenedºº
his headº
in the templeº
of
Däqôn
דָּגוֹן.º |

And they put his armour in the house of their elohim, and fastened his head in the temple of Dagon. |

10:11 ¶
And when allº
Yävêš Gil`äð
יָבֵישׁ־גִּלעָדºº
heardººº
allº
thatº
the
Pælištîm
פְּלִשׁתִּיםº
had doneºº
to
Šä´ûl
שָׁאוּל,º |

10:11 ¶
And when all Yavesh-Gilad heard all that the Pelishtim had done to Shaul, |

They arose,ºº
allº
the valiantº
men,º
and took awayººº
the bodyº
of
Šä´ûl
שָׁאוּל,º
and the bodiesº
of his sons,º
and broughtºº
them to
Yävêš
יָבֵישׁ,º
and buriedººº
their bonesº
underº
the oakº
in
Yävêš
יָבֵישׁ,º
and fastedºº
sevenº
days.º |

They arose, all the valiant men, and took away the body of Shaul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Yavesh, and buried their bones under the oak in Yavesh, and fasted seven days. |

10:13 ¶

[even] againstº
the wordº

Yähwè
יָהוֶה,º
whichº
he keptºº

[counsel] of [one that had] a familiar spirit,º
to enquireºº
[of it]; |

10:13 ¶
So Shaul died for his transgression which he committed against Yahweh, [even] against the word of Yahweh, which he kept not, and also for asking [counsel] of [one that had] a familiar spirit, to enquire [of it]; |

therefore he slewºº
him, and turnedººº
the kingdomº
unto
Däwið
דָּוִדº
the sonº
of
Yišay
יִשַׁי.º |

10:14
And enquired not of Yahweh: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto Dawid the son of Yishay. |
