 1:2 Wherefore his servants° said°° unto him, Let there be sought°° for my ´áđôn אֲדוֹן° the king° a young° virgin:° and let her stand°° before° the king,° and let her cherish°° him, and let her lie°° in thy bosom,° that my ´áđôn אֲדוֹן° the king° may get heat.°°

 1:2 Wherefore his servants said unto him, Let there be sought for my adon the king a young virgin: and let her stand before the king, and let her cherish him, and let her lie in thy bosom, that my adon the king may get heat.

 1:3 So they sought°° for a fair° damsel° throughout all° the coasts° of Yiŝrä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,° and found°°° ´Ávîšaq אֲבִישַׁג° a Šûnammîŧ שׁוּנַמִּית,° and brought°° her to the king.°

 1:5 ¶ Then Adoniyyah the son of Chaggith exalted himself, saying, I will be king: and he prepared him chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him.

 1:6 And his father° had not° displeased°° him at any time°° in saying,°° Why° hast thou done° so?°°° and he° also° [was a] very° goodly°° [man]; and [his mother] bare°° him after° ´Avšälôm אַבשָׁלוֹם.°

 1:6 And his father had not displeased him at any time in saying, Why hast thou done so? and he also [was a] very goodly [man]; and [his mother] bare him after Avshalom.

 1:7 And he conferred° with° Yô´äv יוֹאָב° the son° of Xærûyà צְרוּיָה,° and with° ´Evyäŧär אֶביָתָר° the priest:° and they following° ´Áđöniyyà אֲדֹנִיָּה° helped°° [him].

 1:7 And he conferred with Yoav the son of Tzeruyah, and with Evyathar the priest: and they following Adoniyyah helped [him].

 1:8 But Xäđôk צָדוֹק° the priest,° and Bænäyà בְּנָיָה° the son° of Yæhôyäđä` יְהוֹיָדָע,° and Näŧän נָתָן° the prophet,° and Šim`î שִׁמעִי,° and Rë`î רֵעִי,° and the mighty men° which° [belonged] to Däwiđ דָּוִד,° were° not° with° ´Áđöniyyà אֲדֹנִיָּה.°

 1:8 But Tzadoq the priest, and Benayah the son of Yehoyada, and Nathan the prophet, and Shimi, and Rei, and the mighty men which [belonged] to Dawid, were not with Adoniyyah.

 1:9 And ´Áđöniyyà אֲדֹנִיָּה° slew°° sheep° and oxen° and fat cattle° by° the stone° of Zöçeleŧ זֹחֶלֶת,° which° [is] by° `Ên Röqël עֵין־רֹגֵל,° and called°°° all° his brethren° the king's° sons,° and all° the men°° of Yæhûđà יְהוּדָה° the king's° servants:°

 1:9 And Adoniyyah slew sheep and oxen and fat cattle by the stone of Zocheleth, which [is] by En-Rogel, and called all his brethren the king's sons, and all the men of Yehudah the king's servants:

 1:10 But Näŧän נָתָן° the prophet,° and Bænäyà בְּנָיָה,° and the mighty men,° and Šælömò שְׁלֹמֹה° his brother,° he called°° not.°

 1:10 But Nathan the prophet, and Benayah, and the mighty men, and Shelomoh his brother, he called not.

 1:11 ¶ Wherefore Näŧän נָתָן° spake°° unto° Baŧ Ševa` בַּת־שֶׁבַע° the mother° of Šælömò שְׁלֹמֹה,° saying,°° Hast thou not° heard°° that° ´Áđöniyyà אֲדֹנִיָּה° the son° of Çaggîŧ חַגִּית° doth reign,°° and Däwiđ דָּוִד° our ´áđôn אֲדוֹן° knoweth°° [it] not?°

 1:11 ¶ Wherefore Nathan spake unto Bath-Sheva the mother of Shelomoh, saying, Hast thou not heard that Adoniyyah the son of Chaggith doth reign, and Dawid our adon knoweth [it] not?

 1:12 Now° therefore come,°°° let me, I pray thee,° give° thee counsel,°°° that thou mayest save°°° thine own life,° and the life° of thy son° Šælömò שְׁלֹמֹה.°

 1:12 Now therefore come, let me, I pray thee, give thee counsel, that thou mayest save thine own life, and the life of thy son Shelomoh.

 1:13 Go°°° and get thee in°° unto° king° Däwiđ דָּוִד,° and say°° unto° him, Didst not° thou,° my ´áđôn אֲדוֹן,° O king,° swear°° unto thine handmaid,° saying,°° Assuredly° Šælömò שְׁלֹמֹה° thy son° shall reign°° after° me, and he° shall sit°° upon° my throne?° why° then doth ´Áđöniyyà אֲדֹנִיָּה° reign?°°

 1:13 Go and get thee in unto king Dawid, and say unto him, Didst not thou, my adon, O king, swear unto thine handmaid, saying, Assuredly Shelomoh thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne? why then doth Adoniyyah reign?

 1:14 Behold,° while thou yet° talkest°° there° with° the king,° I° also will come in°° after° thee, and confirm°°° thy words.°

 1:15 ¶ And Baŧ Ševa` בַּת־שֶׁבַע° went in°° unto° the king° into the chamber:° and the king° was very° old;°° and ´Ávîšaq אֲבִישַׁג° the Šûnammîŧ שׁוּנַמִּית° ministered°° unto°° the king.°

 1:17 And she said unto him, My adon, thou swarest by Yahweh thy Elohim unto thine handmaid, [saying], Assuredly Shelomoh thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne.

 1:18 And now,° behold,° ´Áđöniyyà אֲדֹנִיָּה° reigneth;°° and now,° my ´áđôn אֲדוֹן° the king,° thou knowest°° [it] not:°

 1:18 And now, behold, Adoniyyah reigneth; and now, my adon the king, thou knowest [it] not:

 1:19 And he hath slain°° oxen° and fat cattle° and sheep° in abundance,° and hath called°° all° the sons° of the king,° and ´Evyäŧär אֶביָתָר° the priest,° and Yô´äv יוֹאָב° the captain° of the host:° but Šælömò שְׁלֹמֹה° thy servant° hath he not° called.°°

 1:19 And he hath slain oxen and fat cattle and sheep in abundance, and hath called all the sons of the king, and Evyathar the priest, and Yoav the captain of the host: but Shelomoh thy servant hath he not called.

 1:20 And thou,° my ´áđôn אֲדוֹן,° O king,° the eyes° of all° Yiŝrä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל° [are] upon° thee, that thou shouldest tell°° them who° shall sit°° on° the throne° of my ´áđôn אֲדוֹן° the king° after° him.

 1:20 And thou, my adon, O king, the eyes of all Yisrael [are] upon thee, that thou shouldest tell them who shall sit on the throne of my adon the king after him.

 1:21 Otherwise it shall come to pass,° when my ´áđôn אֲדוֹן° the king° shall sleep°° with° his fathers,° that I° and my son° Šælömò שְׁלֹמֹה° shall be counted° offenders.°

 1:21 Otherwise it shall come to pass, when my adon the king shall sleep with his fathers, that I and my son Shelomoh shall be counted offenders.

 1:22 ¶ And, lo,° while she yet° talked°° with° the king,° Näŧän נָתָן° the prophet° also came in.°°

 1:23 And they told°° the king,° saying,°° Behold° Näŧän נָתָן° the prophet.° And when he was come in°° before° the king,° he bowed°° himself° before the king° with° his face° to the ground.°

 1:23 And they told the king, saying, Behold Nathan the prophet. And when he was come in before the king, he bowed himself before the king with his face to the ground.

 1:24 And Näŧän נָתָן° said,°° My ´áđôn אֲדוֹן,° O king,° hast thou° said,°° ´Áđöniyyà אֲדֹנִיָּה° shall reign°° after° me, and he° shall sit°° upon° my throne?°

 1:24 And Nathan said, My adon, O king, hast thou said, Adoniyyah shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne?

 1:25 For° he is gone down°° this day,° and hath slain°° oxen° and fat cattle° and sheep° in abundance,° and hath called°° all° the king's° sons,° and the captains° of the host,° and ´Evyäŧär אֶביָתָר° the priest;° and, behold,° they eat°° and drink°° before° him, and say,°° God save°° king° ´Áđöniyyà אֲדֹנִיָּה.°

 1:25 For he is gone down this day, and hath slain oxen and fat cattle and sheep in abundance, and hath called all the king's sons, and the captains of the host, and Evyathar the priest; and, behold, they eat and drink before him, and say, God save king Adoniyyah.

 1:26 But me, [even] me° thy servant,° and Xäđôk צָדוֹק° the priest,° and Bænäyà בְּנָיָה° the son° of Yæhôyäđä` יְהוֹיָדָע,° and thy servant° Šælömò שְׁלֹמֹה,° hath he not° called.°°

 1:26 But me, [even] me thy servant, and Tzadoq the priest, and Benayah the son of Yehoyada, and thy servant Shelomoh, hath he not called.

 1:27 Is this° thing° done°° by°° my ´áđôn אֲדוֹן° the king,° and thou hast not° shewed°° [it] unto°° thy servant,° who° should sit°° on° the throne° of my ´áđôn אֲדוֹן° the king° after° him?

 1:27 Is this thing done by my adon the king, and thou hast not shewed [it] unto thy servant, who should sit on the throne of my adon the king after him?

 1:28 ¶ Then king° Däwiđ דָּוִד° answered°° and said,°° Call°° me Baŧ Ševa` בַּת־שֶׁבַע.° And she came°° into° the king's° presence,° and stood°° before° the king.°

 1:28 ¶ Then king Dawid answered and said, Call me Bath-Sheva. And she came into the king's presence, and stood before the king.

 1:29 And the king° sware,°° and said,°° [As] Yähwè יָהוֶה° liveth,° that° hath redeemed°°° my soul° out of all°° distress,°

 1:29 And the king sware, and said, [As] Yahweh liveth, that hath redeemed my soul out of all distress,

 1:30 Even° as° I sware°° unto thee by Yähwè יָהוֶה° ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים° of Yiŝrä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,° saying,°° Assuredly° Šælömò שְׁלֹמֹה° thy son° shall reign°° after° me, and he° shall sit°° upon° my throne° in my stead;° even° so° will I certainly do°° this° day.°

 1:30 Even as I sware unto thee by Yahweh Elohim of Yisrael, saying, Assuredly Shelomoh thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne in my stead; even so will I certainly do this day.

 1:31 Then Baŧ Ševa` בַּת־שֶׁבַע° bowed°° with [her] face° to the earth,° and did reverence°° to the king,° and said,°° Let my ´áđôn אֲדוֹן° king° Däwiđ דָּוִד° live°° for ever.°

 1:31 Then Bath-Sheva bowed with [her] face to the earth, and did reverence to the king, and said, Let my adon king Dawid live for ever.

 1:32 ¶ And king° Däwiđ דָּוִד° said,°° Call°° me Xäđôk צָדוֹק° the priest,° and Näŧän נָתָן° the prophet,° and Bænäyà בְּנָיָה° the son° of Yæhôyäđä` יְהוֹיָדָע.° And they came°° before° the king.°

 1:32 ¶ And king Dawid said, Call me Tzadoq the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benayah the son of Yehoyada. And they came before the king.

 1:33 The king° also said°° unto them, Take°° with° you° the servants° of your ´áđôn אֲדוֹן,° and cause° Šælömò שְׁלֹמֹה° my son° to ride°° upon° mine own mule,° and bring him down°°° to° Gîçôn גִּיחוֹן:°

 1:33 The king also said unto them, Take with you the servants of your adon, and cause Shelomoh my son to ride upon mine own mule, and bring him down to Gichon:

 1:34 And let Xäđôk צָדוֹק° the priest° and Näŧän נָתָן° the prophet° anoint°° him there° king° over° Yiŝrä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל:° and blow°° ye with the trumpet,° and say,°° God save°° king° Šælömò שְׁלֹמֹה.°

 1:34 And let Tzadoq the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him there king over Yisrael: and blow ye with the trumpet, and say, God save king Shelomoh.

 1:35 Then ye shall come up°° after° him, that he may come°° and sit°° upon° my throne;° for he° shall be king°° in my stead:° and I have appointed°° him to be° ruler° over° Yiŝrä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל° and over° Yæhûđà יְהוּדָה.°

 1:35 Then ye shall come up after him, that he may come and sit upon my throne; for he shall be king in my stead: and I have appointed him to be ruler over Yisrael and over Yehudah.

 1:36 And Bænäyà בְּנָיָה° the son° of Yæhôyäđä` יְהוֹיָדָע° answered°°° the king,° and said,°° Amen:° Yähwè יָהוֶה° ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים° of my ´áđôn אֲדוֹן° the king° say°° so° [too].

 1:36 And Benayah the son of Yehoyada answered the king, and said, Amen: Yahweh Elohim of my adon the king say so [too].

 1:37 As° Yähwè יָהוֶה° hath been° with° my ´áđôn אֲדוֹן° the king,° even so° be° he with° Šælömò שְׁלֹמֹה,° and make°° his throne° greater°°°° than the throne°° of my ´áđôn אֲדוֹן° king° Däwiđ דָּוִד.°

 1:37 As Yahweh hath been with my adon the king, even so be he with Shelomoh, and make his throne greater than the throne of my adon king Dawid.

 1:38 So Xäđôk צָדוֹק° the priest,° and Näŧän נָתָן° the prophet,° and Bænäyà בְּנָיָה° the son° of Yæhôyäđä` יְהוֹיָדָע,° and the Cærëŧîm כְּרֵתִים,° and the Pælëŧîm פְּלֵתִים,° went down,°° and caused° Šælömò שְׁלֹמֹה° to ride°° upon° king° Däwiđ's דָּוִד° mule,° and brought°°° him to° Gîçôn גִּיחוֹן.°

 1:38 So Tzadoq the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benayah the son of Yehoyada, and the Kerethim, and the Pelethim, went down, and caused Shelomoh to ride upon king Dawid's mule, and brought him to Gichon.

 1:39 And Xäđôk צָדוֹק° the priest° took°°° an horn° of oil° out of° the tabernacle,° and anointed°°° Šælömò שְׁלֹמֹה.° And they blew°° the trumpet;° and all° the people° said,°° God save°° king° Šælömò שְׁלֹמֹה.°

 1:39 And Tzadoq the priest took an horn of oil out of the tabernacle, and anointed Shelomoh. And they blew the trumpet; and all the people said, God save king Shelomoh.

 1:40 And all° the people° came up°° after° him, and the people° piped°° with pipes,° and rejoiced° with great° joy,° so that the earth° rent°° with the sound° of them.

 1:41 ¶ And ´Áđöniyyà אֲדֹנִיָּה° and all° the guests°° that° [were] with° him heard°° [it] as they° had made an end°° of eating.°° And when Yô´äv יוֹאָב° heard°°° the sound° of the trumpet,° he said,°° Wherefore° [is this] noise° of the city° being in an uproar?°°

 1:41 ¶ And Adoniyyah and all the guests that [were] with him heard [it] as they had made an end of eating. And when Yoav heard the sound of the trumpet, he said, Wherefore [is this] noise of the city being in an uproar?

 1:42 And while he yet° spake,°° behold,° Yæhônäŧän יְהוֹנָתָן° the son° of ´Evyäŧär אֶביָתָר° the priest° came:°° and ´Áđöniyyà אֲדֹנִיָּה° said°° unto him, Come in;°° for° thou° [art] a valiant° man,°°° and bringest°° good° tidings.°°°

 1:42 And while he yet spake, behold, Yehonathan the son of Evyathar the priest came: and Adoniyyah said unto him, Come in; for thou [art] a valiant man, and bringest good tidings.

 1:43 And Yæhônäŧän יְהוֹנָתָן° answered°° and said°° to ´Áđöniyyà אֲדֹנִיָּה,° Verily° our ´áđôn אֲדוֹן° king° Däwiđ דָּוִד° hath made Šælömò שְׁלֹמֹה° king.°°°°

 1:43 And Yehonathan answered and said to Adoniyyah, Verily our adon king Dawid hath made Shelomoh king.

 1:44 And the king° hath sent°° with° him° Xäđôk צָדוֹק° the priest,° and Näŧän נָתָן° the prophet,° and Bænäyà בְּנָיָה° the son° of Yæhôyäđä` יְהוֹיָדָע,° and the Cærëŧîm כְּרֵתִים,° and the Pælëŧîm פְּלֵתִים,° and they have caused him to ride°°° upon° the king's° mule:°

 1:44 And the king hath sent with him Tzadoq the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benayah the son of Yehoyada, and the Kerethim, and the Pelethim, and they have caused him to ride upon the king's mule:

 1:45 And Xäđôk צָדוֹק° the priest° and Näŧän נָתָן° the prophet° have anointed°° him king° in Gîçôn גִּיחוֹן:° and they are come up°° from thence°° rejoicing,° so that the city° rang° again.°° This° [is] the noise° that° ye have heard.°°

 1:45 And Tzadoq the priest and Nathan the prophet have anointed him king in Gichon: and they are come up from thence rejoicing, so that the city rang again. This [is] the noise that ye have heard.

 1:46 And also° Šælömò שְׁלֹמֹה° sitteth°° on° the throne° of the kingdom.°

 1:46 And also Shelomoh sitteth on the throne of the kingdom.

 1:47 And moreover° the king's° servants° came°° to bless°°° our ´áđôn אֲדוֹן° king° Däwiđ דָּוִד,° saying,°° ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים° make° the name° of Šælömò שְׁלֹמֹה° better°° than thy name,°° and make°°° his throne° greater°° than thy throne.°° And the king° bowed°° himself° upon° the bed.°

 1:47 And moreover the king's servants came to bless our adon king Dawid, saying, Elohim make the name of Shelomoh better than thy name, and make his throne greater than thy throne. And the king bowed himself upon the bed.

 1:48 And also° thus° said°° the king,° Blessed°° [be] Yähwè יָהוֶה° ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים° of Yiŝrä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,° which° hath given°° [one] to sit°° on° my throne° this day,° mine eyes° even seeing°° [it].

 1:48 And also thus said the king, Blessed [be] Yahweh Elohim of Yisrael, which hath given [one] to sit on my throne this day, mine eyes even seeing [it].

 1:49 And all° the guests°° that° [were] with ´Áđöniyyà אֲדֹנִיָּה° were afraid,°° and rose up,°° and went°°° every man° his way.°

 1:49 And all the guests that [were] with Adoniyyah were afraid, and rose up, and went every man his way.

 1:50 ¶ And ´Áđöniyyà אֲדֹנִיָּה° feared°° because°° of Šælömò שְׁלֹמֹה,° and arose,°° and went,°°° and caught hold°° on the horns° of the altar.°

 1:50 ¶ And Adoniyyah feared because of Shelomoh, and arose, and went, and caught hold on the horns of the altar.

 1:51 And it was told°° Šælömò שְׁלֹמֹה,° saying,°° Behold,° ´Áđöniyyà אֲדֹנִיָּה° feareth°°° king° Šælömò שְׁלֹמֹה:° for, lo,° he hath caught hold°° on the horns° of the altar,° saying,°° Let king° Šælömò שְׁלֹמֹה° swear°° unto me to day° that he will not° slay°°° his servant° with the sword.°

 1:51 And it was told Shelomoh, saying, Behold, Adoniyyah feareth king Shelomoh: for, lo, he hath caught hold on the horns of the altar, saying, Let king Shelomoh swear unto me to day that he will not slay his servant with the sword.

 1:52 And Šælömò שְׁלֹמֹה° said,°° If° he will shew° himself a worthy° man,° there shall not° an hair° of°° him fall°° to the earth:° but if° wickedness° shall be found°° in him, he shall die.°°

 1:52 And Shelomoh said, If he will shew himself a worthy man, there shall not an hair of him fall to the earth: but if wickedness shall be found in him, he shall die.

 1:53 So king° Šælömò שְׁלֹמֹה° sent,°° and they brought him down°° from°° the altar.° And he came°° and bowed°° himself° to king° Šælömò שְׁלֹמֹה:° and Šælömò שְׁלֹמֹה° said°° unto him, Go°°° to thine house.°

 1:53 So king Shelomoh sent, and they brought him down from the altar. And he came and bowed himself to king Shelomoh: and Shelomoh said unto him, Go to thine house.
