 22:1 ¶ And they continuedºº threeº yearsº withoutº warº betweenº ´Áräm אֲרָםº and Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל.º

 22:1 ¶ And they continued three years without war between Aram and Yisrael.

 22:2 And it came to passº in the thirdº year,º that Yæhôšäfä+ יְהוֹשָׁפָטº the kingº of Yæhûðà יְהוּדָהº came downºº toº the kingº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל.º

 22:2 And it came to pass in the third year, that Yehoshafat the king of Yehudah came down to the king of Yisrael.

 22:3 And the kingº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº saidºº untoº his servants,º Knowºº ye thatº Rämô± רָמוֹתº in Gil`äð גִּלעָדºº [is] ours, and weº [be] still,ºº [and] takeººº it not out of the handºº of the kingº of ´Áräm אֲרָם?º

 22:3 And the king of Yisrael said unto his servants, Know ye that Ramoth in Gilad [is] ours, and we [be] still, [and] take it not out of the hand of the king of Aram?

 22:4 And he saidºº untoº Yæhôšäfä+ יְהוֹשָׁפָט,º Wilt thou goººº withº me to battleº to Rämô± Gil`äð רָמוֹת־גִּלעָד?ºº And Yæhôšäfä+ יְהוֹשָׁפָטº saidºº toº the kingº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,º I [am] as thouº [art], my peopleº as thy people,º my horsesº as thy horses.º

 22:4 And he said unto Yehoshafat, Wilt thou go with me to battle to Ramoth-Gilad? And Yehoshafat said to the king of Yisrael, I [am] as thou [art], my people as thy people, my horses as thy horses.

 22:5 And Yæhôšäfä+ יְהוֹשָׁפָטº saidºº untoº the kingº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,º Enquire,ºº I pray thee,º atº the wordº of Yähwè יָהוֶהº to day.º

 22:5 And Yehoshafat said unto the king of Yisrael, Enquire, I pray thee, at the word of Yahweh to day.

 22:6 Then the kingº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº gatheredºº the prophetsº together,ºººº about fourº hundredº men,º and saidºº untoº them, Shall I goººº againstº Rämô± Gil`äð רָמוֹת־גִּלעָדºº to battle,º orº shall I forbear?ºº And they said,ºº Go up;ºº for Yähwè יָהוֶהº shall deliverºº [it] into the handº of the king.º

 22:6 Then the king of Yisrael gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said unto them, Shall I go against Ramoth-Gilad to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, Go up; for Yahweh shall deliver [it] into the hand of the king.

 22:7 And Yæhôšäfä+ יְהוֹשָׁפָטº said,ºº [Is there] notº hereº a prophetº of Yähwè יָהוֶהº besides,º that we might enquireºº ofºº him?

 22:7 And Yehoshafat said, [Is there] not here a prophet of Yahweh besides, that we might enquire of him?

 22:8 And the kingº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº saidºº untoº Yæhôšäfä+ יְהוֹשָׁפָט,º [There is] yetº oneº man,º Mî¢äyhû מִיכָיהוּº the sonº of Yimlà יִמלָה,º byºº whom we may enquireºº ofº Yähwè יָהוֶה:º but Iº hateºº him; forº he doth notº prophesyºº goodº concerningº me, butºº evil.º And Yæhôšäfä+ יְהוֹשָׁפָטº said,ºº Let notº the kingº sayºº so.º

 22:8 And the king of Yisrael said unto Yehoshafat, [There is] yet one man, Mikhayhu the son of Yimlah, by whom we may enquire of Yahweh: but I hate him; for he doth not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. And Yehoshafat said, Let not the king say so.

 22:9 Then the kingº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº calledººº anº officer,º and said,ºº Hastenºº [hither] Mî¢äyhû מִיכָיהוּº the sonº of Yimlà יִמלָה.º

 22:9 Then the king of Yisrael called an officer, and said, Hasten [hither] Mikhayhu the son of Yimlah.

 22:10 And the kingº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº and Yæhôšäfä+ יְהוֹשָׁפָטº the kingº of Yæhûðà יְהוּדָהº satºº eachº onº his throne,º having put onºº their robes,º in a void placeº in the entranceº of the gateº of Šömrôn שֹׁמרוֹן;º and allº the prophetsº prophesiedºº beforeº them.

 22:10 And the king of Yisrael and Yehoshafat the king of Yehudah sat each on his throne, having put on their robes, in a void place in the entrance of the gate of Shomron; and all the prophets prophesied before them.

 22:11 And Xiðkiyyà צִדקִיָּהº the sonº of Cæna`ánà כְּנַעֲנָהº madeºº him hornsº of iron:º and he said,ºº Thusº saithºº Yähwè יָהוֶה,º With theseº shalt thou pushººº the ´Árammîm אֲרַמִּים,º untilº thou have consumedºº them.

 22:11 And Tzidqiyyah the son of Kenaanah made him horns of iron: and he said, Thus saith Yahweh, With these shalt thou push the Arammim, until thou have consumed them.

 22:12 And allº the prophetsº prophesiedºº so,º saying,ºº Go upºº to Rämô± Gil`äð רָמוֹת־גִּלעָד,ºº and prosper:ºº for Yähwè יָהוֶהº shall deliverºº [it] into the king'sº hand.º

 22:12 And all the prophets prophesied so, saying, Go up to Ramoth-Gilad, and prosper: for Yahweh shall deliver [it] into the king's hand.

 22:13 And the messengerº thatº was goneºº to callºº Mî¢äyhû מִיכָיהוּº spakeºº untoº him, saying,ºº Beholdº now,º the wordsº of the prophetsº [declare] goodº untoº the kingº with oneº mouth:º let thy word,º I pray thee,º beº like the wordº of oneº of them,º and speakºº [that which is] good.º

 22:13 And the messenger that was gone to call Mikhayhu spake unto him, saying, Behold now, the words of the prophets [declare] good unto the king with one mouth: let thy word, I pray thee, be like the word of one of them, and speak [that which is] good.

 22:14 And Mî¢äyhû מִיכָיהוּº said,ºº [As] Yähwè יָהוֶהº liveth,º whatº Yähwè יָהוֶהº saithºº untoº me, that will I speak.ºº

 22:14 And Mikhayhu said, [As] Yahweh liveth, what Yahweh saith unto me, that will I speak.

 22:15 ¶ So he cameºº toº the king.º And the kingº saidºº untoº him, Mî¢äyhû מִיכָיהוּ,º shall we goººº againstº Rämô± Gil`äð רָמוֹת־גִּלעָדºº to battle,º orº shall we forbear?ºº And he answeredººº him, Go,ºº and prosper:ºº for Yähwè יָהוֶהº shall deliverºº [it] into the handº of the king.º

 22:15 ¶ So he came to the king. And the king said unto him, Mikhayhu, shall we go against Ramoth-Gilad to battle, or shall we forbear? And he answered him, Go, and prosper: for Yahweh shall deliver [it] into the hand of the king.

 22:16 And the kingº saidºº untoº him, Howº manyº timesº shall Iº adjureºº thee thatº thou tellººº me nothingº butº [that which is] trueº in the nameº of Yähwè יָהוֶה?º

 22:16 And the king said unto him, How many times shall I adjure thee that thou tell me nothing but [that which is] true in the name of Yahweh?

 22:17 And he said,ºº I sawººº allº Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº scatteredºº uponº the hills,º as sheepº thatº have notº a shepherd:ºº and Yähwè יָהוֶהº said,ºº Theseº have noº ´áðôn אֲדוֹן:º let them returnºº every manº to his houseº in peace.º

 22:17 And he said, I saw all Yisrael scattered upon the hills, as sheep that have not a shepherd: and Yahweh said, These have no adon: let them return every man to his house in peace.

 22:18 And the kingº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº saidºº untoº Yæhôšäfä+ יְהוֹשָׁפָט,º Did I notº tellººº thee that he would prophesyºº noº goodº concerningº me, butºº evil?º

 22:18 And the king of Yisrael said unto Yehoshafat, Did I not tell thee that he would prophesy no good concerning me, but evil?

 22:19 And he said,ºº Hearºº thou thereforeº the wordº of Yähwè יָהוֶה:º I sawººº Yähwè יָהוֶהº sittingºº onº his throne,º and allº the hostº of heavenº standingºº byº him on his right handºº and on his left.ºº

 22:19 And he said, Hear thou therefore the word of Yahweh: I saw Yahweh sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left.

 22:20 And Yähwè יָהוֶהº said,ºº Whoº shall persuadeººº ´Aç´äv אַחאָב,º that he may go upºº and fallºº at Rämô± Gil`äð רָמוֹת־גִּלעָד?ºº And oneº saidºº on this manner,º and anotherº saidºº on that manner.º

 22:20 And Yahweh said, Who shall persuade Achav, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth-Gilad? And one said on this manner, and another said on that manner.

 22:21 And there came forthºº a spirit,º and stoodºº beforeº Yähwè יָהוֶה,º and said,ºº Iº will persuadeºº him.

 22:21 And there came forth a spirit, and stood before Yahweh, and said, I will persuade him.

 22:22 And Yähwè יָהוֶהº saidºº untoº him, Wherewith?º And he said,ºº I will go forth,ºº and I will beº a lyingº spiritº in the mouthº of allº his prophets.º And he said,ºº Thou shalt persuadeºº [him], and prevailºº also:º go forth,ºº and doºº so.º

 22:22 And Yahweh said unto him, Wherewith? And he said, I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt persuade [him], and prevail also: go forth, and do so.

 22:23 Nowº therefore, behold,º Yähwè יָהוֶהº hath putºº a lyingº spiritº in the mouthº of allº theseº thy prophets,º and Yähwè יָהוֶהº hath spokenºº evilº concerningº thee.

 22:23 Now therefore, behold, Yahweh hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and Yahweh hath spoken evil concerning thee.

 22:24 But Xiðkiyyà צִדקִיָּהº the sonº of Cæna`ánà כְּנַעֲנָהº went near,ºº and smoteººº Mî¢äyhû מִיכָיהוּº onº the cheek,º and said,ºº Whichº wayºº wentºº the Spiritº of Yähwè יָהוֶהº fromºº me to speakºº untoº thee?

 22:24 But Tzidqiyyah the son of Kenaanah went near, and smote Mikhayhu on the cheek, and said, Which way went the Spirit of Yahweh from me to speak unto thee?

 22:25 And Mî¢äyhû מִיכָיהוּº said,ºº Behold,º thou shalt seeºº in thatº day,º whenº thou shalt goºº intoº an innerº chamberº to hideºº thyself.º

 22:25 And Mikhayhu said, Behold, thou shalt see in that day, when thou shalt go into an inner chamber to hide thyself.

 22:26 And the kingº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº said,ºº Takeººº Mî¢äyhû מִיכָיהוּ,º and carry him backºº untoº ´Ämôn אָמוֹןº the governorº of the city,º and toº Yô´äš יוֹאָשׁº the king'sº son;º

 22:26 And the king of Yisrael said, Take Mikhayhu, and carry him back unto Amon the governor of the city, and to Yoash the king's son;

 22:27 And say,ºº Thusº saithºº the king,º Putººº thisº [fellow] in the prison,ºº and feedºº him with breadº of afflictionº and with waterº of affliction,º untilº I comeºº in peace.º

 22:27 And say, Thus saith the king, Put this [fellow] in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I come in peace.

 22:28 And Mî¢äyhû מִיכָיהוּº said,ºº Ifº thou returnºº at allºº in peace,º Yähwè יָהוֶהº hath notº spokenºº by me. And he said,ºº Hearken,ºº O people,º everyº one of you.

 22:28 And Mikhayhu said, If thou return at all in peace, Yahweh hath not spoken by me. And he said, Hearken, O people, every one of you.

 22:29 So the kingº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº and Yæhôšäfä+ יְהוֹשָׁפָטº the kingº of Yæhûðà יְהוּדָהº went upºº to Rämô± Gil`äð רָמוֹת־גִּלעָד.ºº

 22:29 So the king of Yisrael and Yehoshafat the king of Yehudah went up to Ramoth-Gilad.

 22:30 And the kingº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº saidºº untoº Yæhôšäfä+ יְהוֹשָׁפָט,º I will disguiseºº myself,º and enterºº into the battle;º but putº thouº onºº thy robes.º And the kingº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº disguisedºº himself,º and wentºº into the battle.º

 22:30 And the king of Yisrael said unto Yehoshafat, I will disguise myself, and enter into the battle; but put thou on thy robes. And the king of Yisrael disguised himself, and went into the battle.

 22:31 But the kingº of ´Áräm אֲרָםº commandedººº hisº thirtyº and twoº captainsº that had rule overº hisº chariots,º saying,ºº Fightºº neitherº withº smallº nor great,º saveºº onlyº withº the kingº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל.º

 22:31 But the king of Aram commanded his thirty and two captains that had rule over his chariots, saying, Fight neither with small nor great, save only with the king of Yisrael.

 22:32 And it came to pass,º when the captainsº of the chariotsº sawººº Yæhôšäfä+ יְהוֹשָׁפָט,º that theyº said,ºº Surelyº itº [is] the kingº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל.º And they turned asideºº to fightºº againstº him: and Yæhôšäfä+ יְהוֹשָׁפָטº cried out.ºº

 22:32 And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Yehoshafat, that they said, Surely it [is] the king of Yisrael. And they turned aside to fight against him: and Yehoshafat cried out.

 22:33 And it came to pass,º when the captainsº of the chariotsº perceivedºº thatº itº [was] notº the kingº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,º that they turned backºº from pursuingºº him.

 22:33 And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots perceived that it [was] not the king of Yisrael, that they turned back from pursuing him.

 22:34 And a [certain] manº drewºº a bowº at a venture,º and smoteººº the kingº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº betweenº the jointsº of the harness:º wherefore he saidºº unto the driver of his chariot,º Turnºº thine hand,º and carry me outºº ofº the host;º forº I am wounded.ºº

 22:34 And a [certain] man drew a bow at a venture, and smote the king of Yisrael between the joints of the harness: wherefore he said unto the driver of his chariot, Turn thine hand, and carry me out of the host; for I am wounded.

 22:35 And the battleº increasedºº thatº day:º and the kingº wasº stayed upºº in his chariotº againstº the ´Árammîm אֲרַמִּים,º and diedºº at even:º and the bloodº ran outºº of the woundº intoº the midstº of the chariot.º

 22:35 And the battle increased that day: and the king was stayed up in his chariot against the Arammim, and died at even: and the blood ran out of the wound into the midst of the chariot.

 22:36 And there wentºº a proclamationº throughout the hostº about the going downºº of the sun,º saying,ºº Every manº toº his city,º and every manº toº his own country.º

 22:36 And there went a proclamation throughout the host about the going down of the sun, saying, Every man to his city, and every man to his own country.

 22:37 ¶ So the kingº died,ºº and was broughtºº to Šömrôn שֹׁמרוֹן;º and they buriedººº the kingº in Šömrôn שֹׁמרוֹן.º

 22:37 ¶ So the king died, and was brought to Shomron; and they buried the king in Shomron.

 22:38 And [one] washedººº the chariotº inº the poolº of Šömrôn שֹׁמרוֹן;º and the dogsº licked upººº his blood;º and they washedºº his armour;º according unto the wordº of Yähwè יָהוֶהº whichº he spake.ºº

 22:38 And [one] washed the chariot in the pool of Shomron; and the dogs licked up his blood; and they washed his armour; according unto the word of Yahweh which he spake.

 22:39 Now the restº of the actsº of ´Aç´äv אַחאָב,º and allº thatº he did,ºº and the ivoryº houseº whichº he made,ºº and allº the citiesº thatº he built,ºº [are] theyº notº writtenºº inº the bookº of the chroniclesºº of the kingsº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל?º

 22:39 Now the rest of the acts of Achav, and all that he did, and the ivory house which he made, and all the cities that he built, [are] they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Yisrael?

 22:40 So ´Aç´äv אַחאָבº sleptºº withº his fathers;º and ´Áçazyà אֲחַזיָהº his sonº reignedºº in his stead.º

 22:40 So Achav slept with his fathers; and Achazyah his son reigned in his stead.

 22:41 ¶ And Yæhôšäfä+ יְהוֹשָׁפָטº the sonº of ´Äsä´ אָסָאº began to reignºº overº Yæhûðà יְהוּדָהº in the fourthº yearº of ´Aç´äv אַחאָבº kingº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל.º

 22:41 ¶ And Yehoshafat the son of Asa began to reign over Yehudah in the fourth year of Achav king of Yisrael.

 22:42 Yæhôšäfä+ יְהוֹשָׁפָטº [was] thirtyº and fiveº yearsº oldº when he began to reign;ºº and he reignedºº twentyº and fiveº yearsº in Yærûšälaim יְרוּשָׁלִַם.º And his mother'sº nameº [was] `Ázûvà עֲזוּבָהº the daughterº of Šilçî שִׁלחִי.º

 22:42 Yehoshafat [was] thirty and five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and five years in Yerushalaim. And his mother's name [was] Azuvah the daughter of Shilchi.

 22:43 And he walkedººº in allº the waysº of ´Äsä´ אָסָאº his father;º he turned not asideººº fromº it, doingºº [that which was] rightº in the eyesº of Yähwè יָהוֶה:º neverthelessº the high placesº were notº taken away;ºº [for] the peopleº offeredºº and burnt incenseºº yetº in the high places.º

 22:43 And he walked in all the ways of Asa his father; he turned not aside from it, doing [that which was] right in the eyes of Yahweh: nevertheless the high places were not taken away; [for] the people offered and burnt incense yet in the high places.

 22:44 And Yæhôšäfä+ יְהוֹשָׁפָטº made peaceºº withº the kingº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל.º

 22:44 And Yehoshafat made peace with the king of Yisrael.

 22:45 Now the restº of the actsº of Yæhôšäfä+ יְהוֹשָׁפָט,º and his mightº thatº he shewed,ºº and howº he warred,ºº [are] theyº notº writtenºº inº the bookº of the chroniclesºº of the kingsº of Yæhûðà יְהוּדָה?º

 22:45 Now the rest of the acts of Yehoshafat, and his might that he shewed, and how he warred, [are] they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Yehudah?

 22:46 And the remnantº of the sodomites,º whichº remainedºº in the daysº of his fatherº ´Äsä´ אָסָא,º he tookºº out ofº the land.º

 22:46 And the remnant of the sodomites, which remained in the days of his father Asa, he took out of the land.

 22:47 [There was] then noº kingº in ´Éðôm אֱדוֹם:º a deputyºº [was] king.º

 22:47 [There was] then no king in Edom: a deputy [was] king.

 22:48 Yæhôšäfä+ יְהוֹשָׁפָטº madeºººº shipsº of Taršîš תַּרשִׁישׁº to goººº to ´Ôfîr אוֹפִירº for gold:º but they wentºº not;º forº the shipsº were brokenºº at `Exyôn Gever עֶציוֹן־גֶּבֶר.º

 22:48 Yehoshafat made ships of Tarshish to go to Ofir for gold: but they went not; for the ships were broken at Etzyon-Gever.

 22:49 Thenº saidºº ´Áçazyà אֲחַזיָהº the sonº of ´Aç´äv אַחאָבº untoº Yæhôšäfä+ יְהוֹשָׁפָט,º Let my servantsº goººº withº thy servantsº in the ships.º But Yæhôšäfä+ יְהוֹשָׁפָטº wouldºº not.º

 22:49 Then said Achazyah the son of Achav unto Yehoshafat, Let my servants go with thy servants in the ships. But Yehoshafat would not.

 22:50 ¶ And Yæhôšäfä+ יְהוֹשָׁפָטº sleptºº withº his fathers,º and was buriedºº withº his fathersº in the cityº of Däwið דָּוִדº his father:º and Yæhôräm יְהוֹרָםº his sonº reignedºº in his stead.º

 22:50 ¶ And Yehoshafat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of Dawid his father: and Yehoram his son reigned in his stead.

 22:51 ¶ ´Áçazyà אֲחַזיָהº the sonº of ´Aç´äv אַחאָבº began to reignºº overº Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº in Šömrôn שֹׁמרוֹןº the seventeenthºº yearº of Yæhôšäfä+ יְהוֹשָׁפָטº kingº of Yæhûðà יְהוּדָה,º and reignedºº two yearsº overº Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל.º

 22:51 ¶ Achazyah the son of Achav began to reign over Yisrael in Shomron the seventeenth year of Yehoshafat king of Yehudah, and reigned two years over Yisrael.

 22:52 And he didºº evilº in the sightº of Yähwè יָהוֶה,º and walkedººº in the wayº of his father,º and in the wayº of his mother,º and in the wayº of Yorov`äm יָרָבעָםº the sonº of Nævä+ נְבָט,º whoº made Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº to sin:ºººº

 22:52 And he did evil in the sight of Yahweh, and walked in the way of his father, and in the way of his mother, and in the way of Yorovam the son of Nevat, who made Yisrael to sin:

 22:53 For he servedººº Bä`al בָּעַל,º and worshippedºº him, and provoked to angerººº Yähwè יָהוֶהº ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,º according to allº thatº his fatherº had done.ºº

 22:53 For he served Baal, and worshipped him, and provoked to anger Yahweh Elohim of Yisrael, according to all that his father had done.
