 19:1 ¶
And Achav told Izevel all that Eliyyah had done, and withal how he had slain all the prophets with the sword. |

a messengerº

´Ëliyyà
אֵלִיָּה,º
saying,ºº
Soº
let the
´élöhîm
אֱלֹהִיםº

[to me], and moreºº

thy lifeº
as the lifeº
of oneº
ofº
them by to morrowº
about this time.º |

 19:2
Then Izevel sent a messenger unto Eliyyah, saying, So let the elohim do [to me], and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time. |
 19:3
And when he sawºº
[that], he arose,ºº
and wentººº
forº
his life,º
and cameºº
to
Bæ´ër Ševa`
בְּאֵר־שֶׁבַע,º
whichº
[belongeth] to
Yæhûðà
יְהוּדָה,º
and leftºººº
his servantº
there.º |

 19:3
And when he saw [that], he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beer-Sheva, which [belongeth] to Yehudah, and left his servant there. |
 19:4 ¶
But he himselfº
wentºº
a day'sº
journeyº
into the wilderness,º
and cameºº
and sat downºº
underº
aº
juniper tree:º
and he requestedººº
for himselfº
that he might die;ºº
and said,ºº
It is enough;º
now,º
O
Yähwè
יָהוֶה,º
take awayºº
my life;º
forº
Iº
[am] notº
betterº
than my fathers.ºº |

 19:4 ¶
But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O Yahweh, take away my life; for I [am] not better than my fathers. |
 19:5
And as he layºº
and sleptºº
underº
aº
juniper tree,º
behold,º
thenº
an angelº
touchedºº
him, and saidºº
unto him, Ariseºº
[and] eat.ºº |

 19:5
And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise [and] eat. |
 19:6
And he looked,ºº
and, behold,º
[there was] a cakeº
baken on the coals,º
and a cruseº
of waterº
at his head.º
And he did eatºº
and drink,ºº
and laid him downºº
again.ºº |

And he looked, and, behold, [there was] a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again. |

And the angelº
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
came againºº
the second time,º
and touchedºº
him, and said,ºº
Ariseºº
[and] eat;ºº
becauseº
the journeyº
[is] too greatº
forº
thee. |

 19:7
And the angel of Yahweh came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise [and] eat; because the journey [is] too great for thee. |
 19:8
And he arose,ºº
and did eatºº
and drink,ºº
and wentººº
in the strengthº
of thatº
meatº
fortyº
daysº
and fortyº
nightsº
untoº

the mountº

´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים.º |

 19:8
And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Chorev the mount of Elohim. |
 19:9 ¶
And he cameºº
thitherº
untoº
a cave,º
and lodgedºº
there;º
and, behold,º
the wordº
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
[came] toº
him, and he saidºº
unto him, Whatº
doest thou here,º
´Ëliyyà
אֵלִיָּה?º |

 19:9 ¶
And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of Yahweh [came] to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Eliyyah? |
 19:10
And he said,ºº
I have been veryºº
jealousºº
for
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִיםº
Xævä´ô±
צְבָאוֹת:º
forº
the childrenº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵלº
have forsakenºº
thy covenant,º
thrown downººº
thine altars,º
and slainºº
thy prophetsº
with the sword;º
and I,º
[even] I only,º
am left;ºº
and they seekººº
my life,º
to take it away.ºº |

 19:10
And he said, I have been very jealous for Yahweh Elohim Tzevaoth: for the children of Yisrael have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, [even] I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away. |
 19:11
And he said,ºº
Go forth,ºº
and standºº
upon the mountº
beforeº
Yähwè
יָהוֶה.º
And, behold,º
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
passed by,ºº
and a greatº
and strongº
windº
rentºº
the mountains,º
and brake in piecesºº
the rocksº
beforeº
Yähwè
יָהוֶה;º
[but]
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
[was] notº
in the wind:º
and afterº
the windº
an earthquake;º
[but]
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
[was] notº
in the earthquake:º |

 19:11
And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before Yahweh. And, behold, Yahweh passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before Yahweh; [but] Yahweh [was] not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; [but] Yahweh [was] not in the earthquake: |
 19:12
And afterº
the earthquakeº
a fire;º
[but]
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
[was] notº
in the fire:º
and afterº
the fireº
a stillº
smallº
voice.º |

 19:12
And after the earthquake a fire; [but] Yahweh [was] not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice. |
 19:13
And it wasº
[so], when
´Ëliyyà
אֵלִיָּהº
heardºº
[it], that he wrappedºº
his faceº
in his mantle,º
and went out,ºº
and stoodºº
in the entering inº
of the cave.º
And, behold,º
[there came] a voiceº
untoº
him, and said,ºº
Whatº
doest thou here,º
´Ëliyyà
אֵלִיָּה?º |

And it was [so], when Eliyyah heard [it], that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, [there came] a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Eliyyah? |
 19:14
And he said,ºº

And Yehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint [to be] king over Yisrael: and Elisha the son of Shafat of Avel-Mecholah shalt thou anoint [to be] prophet in thy room. |

And it shall come to pass,º
[that] him that escapethºº
the swordºº
of

חֲזָאֵלº
shall

יֵהוּאº
slay:ºº
and him that escapethºº
from the swordºº
of
Yëhû´
יֵהוּאº
shall
´Élîšä`

 19:17
And it shall come to pass, [that] him that escapeth the sword of Chazael shall Yehu slay: and him that escapeth from the sword of Yehu shall Elisha slay. |

Yet I have leftºº
[me] sevenº
thousandº
in
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל,º
allº
the kneesº
whichº
have notº
bowedºº
unto
Bä`al
בָּעַל,º
and everyº
mouthº
whichº
hath notº
kissedºº
him. |

 19:18
Yet I have left [me] seven thousand in Yisrael, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him. |
 19:19 ¶
So he departedººº
thence,ºº
and foundººº

אֱלִישָׁעº
the sonº
of

שָׁפָט,º
whoº
[was] plowingºº
[with] twelveºº
yokeº
[of oxen] beforeº
him, and heº
with the twelfth:ºº

his mantleº

 19:19 ¶
So he departed thence, and found Elisha the son of Shafat, who [was] plowing [with] twelve yoke [of oxen] before him, and he with the twelfth: and Eliyyah passed by him, and cast his mantle upon him. |
 19:20
And he leftººº
the oxen,º
and ranºº
afterº
´Ëliyyà
אֵלִיָּה,º
and said,ºº
Let me, I pray thee,º
kissºº
my fatherº
and my mother,º
and [then] I will followºººº
thee. And he saidºº
unto him, Goº
backºº
again:ºº
forº
whatº
have I doneºº
to thee? |

 19:20
And he left the oxen, and ran after Eliyyah, and said, Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, and [then] I will follow thee. And he said unto him, Go back again: for what have I done to thee? |
 19:21
And he returned backºº
fromºº
him,º
and tookººº
a yokeº
of oxen,º
and slewºº
them, and boiledºº
their fleshº
with the instrumentsº
of the oxen,º
and gaveºº
unto the people,º
and they did eat.ºº
Then he arose,ºº
and wentººº
afterº
´Ëliyyà
אֵלִיָּה,º
and ministeredºº
unto him. |
|
 19:21
And he returned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen, and slew them, and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave unto the people, and they did eat. Then he arose, and went after Eliyyah, and ministered unto him. |
