 14:1 ¶ At thatº timeº ´Áviyyà אֲבִיָּהº the sonº of Yorov`äm יָרָבעָםº fell sick.ºº

 14:1 ¶ At that time Aviyyah the son of Yorovam fell sick.

 14:2 And Yorov`äm יָרָבעָםº saidºº to his wife,º Arise,ºº I pray thee,º and disguiseºº thyself,º thatº thouº be notº knownºº to be the wifeº of Yorov`äm יָרָבעָם;º and getºº thee to Šîlò שִׁילֹה:º behold,º thereº [is] ´Áçiyyà אֲחִיָּהº the prophet,º whichº toldººº me that [I should be] kingº overº thisº people.º

 14:2 And Yorovam said to his wife, Arise, I pray thee, and disguise thyself, that thou be not known to be the wife of Yorovam; and get thee to Shiloh: behold, there [is] Achiyyah the prophet, which told me that [I should be] king over this people.

 14:3 And takeºº withº theeº tenº loaves,º and cracknels,º and a cruseº of honey,º and goºº toº him: heº shall tellºº thee whatº shall becomeº of the child.º

 14:3 And take with thee ten loaves, and cracknels, and a cruse of honey, and go to him: he shall tell thee what shall become of the child.

 14:4 And Yorov`äm's יָרָבעָםº wifeº didº so,ººº and arose,ºº and wentººº to Šîlò שִׁילֹה,º and cameºº to the houseº of ´Áçiyyà אֲחִיָּה.º But ´Áçiyyà אֲחִיָּהº couldºº notº see;ºº forº his eyesº were setºº by reason of his age.ºº

 14:4 And Yorovam's wife did so, and arose, and went to Shiloh, and came to the house of Achiyyah. But Achiyyah could not see; for his eyes were set by reason of his age.

 14:5 ¶ And Yähwè יָהוֶהº saidºº untoº ´Áçiyyà אֲחִיָּה,º Behold,º the wifeº of Yorov`äm יָרָבעָםº comethºº to askºº a thingº ofºº thee forº her son;º forº heº [is] sick:ºº thusº and thusº shalt thou sayºº untoº her: for it shall be,º when she cometh in,ºº that sheº shall feign herself [to be] anotherºº [woman].º

 14:5 ¶ And Yahweh said unto Achiyyah, Behold, the wife of Yorovam cometh to ask a thing of thee for her son; for he [is] sick: thus and thus shalt thou say unto her: for it shall be, when she cometh in, that she shall feign herself [to be] another [woman].

 14:6 And it wasº [so], when ´Áçiyyà אֲחִיָּהº heardººº the soundº of her feet,º as she came inºº at the door,º that he said,ºº Come in,ºº thou wifeº of Yorov`äm יָרָבעָם;º whyºº feignest thou thyself [to be] another?ººº for Iº [am] sentºº toº thee [with] heavyº [tidings].

 14:6 And it was [so], when Achiyyah heard the sound of her feet, as she came in at the door, that he said, Come in, thou wife of Yorovam; why feignest thou thyself [to be] another? for I [am] sent to thee [with] heavy [tidings].

 14:7 Go,ººº tellºº Yorov`äm יָרָבעָם,º Thusº saithºº Yähwè יָהוֶהº ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,º Forasmuchºº asº I exaltedºº thee from amongºº the people,º and madeºº thee princeº overº my peopleº Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,º

 14:7 Go, tell Yorovam, Thus saith Yahweh Elohim of Yisrael, Forasmuch as I exalted thee from among the people, and made thee prince over my people Yisrael,

 14:8 And rentººº the kingdomº awayºº from the houseºº of Däwið דָּוִד,º and gaveºº it thee: and [yet] thou hast notº beenº as my servantº Däwið דָּוִד,º whoº keptºº my commandments,º and whoº followedººº me with allº his heart,º to doºº [that] onlyº [which was] rightº in mine eyes;º

 14:8 And rent the kingdom away from the house of Dawid, and gave it thee: and [yet] thou hast not been as my servant Dawid, who kept my commandments, and who followed me with all his heart, to do [that] only [which was] right in mine eyes;

 14:9 But hast doneºº evilºº above allºº thatº wereº beforeº thee: for thou hast goneººº and madeºº thee otherº ´élöhîm אֱלֹהִים,º and molten images,º to provoke me to anger,ºº and hast castºº me behindº thy back:º

 14:9 But hast done evil above all that were before thee: for thou hast gone and made thee other elohim, and molten images, to provoke me to anger, and hast cast me behind thy back:

 14:10 Therefore,º behold,º I will bringºº evilº uponº the houseº of Yorov`äm יָרָבעָם,º and will cut offºº from Yorov`äm יָרָבעָםº him that pissethºº against the wall,º [and] him that is shut upºº and leftºº in Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,º and will take awayºº the remnantº of the houseº of Yorov`äm יָרָבעָם,º asº a man taketh awayºº dung,º tillº it be all gone.ºº

 14:10 Therefore, behold, I will bring evil upon the house of Yorovam, and will cut off from Yorovam him that pisseth against the wall, [and] him that is shut up and left in Yisrael, and will take away the remnant of the house of Yorovam, as a man taketh away dung, till it be all gone.

 14:11 Him that diethºº of Yorov`äm יָרָבעָםº in the cityº shall the dogsº eat;ºº and him that diethºº in the fieldº shall the fowlsº of the airº eat:ºº forº Yähwè יָהוֶהº hath spokenºº [it].

 14:11 Him that dieth of Yorovam in the city shall the dogs eat; and him that dieth in the field shall the fowls of the air eat: for Yahweh hath spoken [it].

 14:12 Ariseºº thouº therefore, getººº thee to thine own house:º [and] when thy feetº enterºº into the city,º the childº shall die.ºº

 14:12 Arise thou therefore, get thee to thine own house: [and] when thy feet enter into the city, the child shall die.

 14:13 And allº Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº shall mournºº for him, and buryºº him: forºº he onlyº of Yorov`äm יָרָבעָםº shall comeºº toº the grave,º becauseº in him there is foundºº [some] goodº thingº towardº Yähwè יָהוֶהº ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº in the houseº of Yorov`äm יָרָבעָם.º

 14:13 And all Yisrael shall mourn for him, and bury him: for he only of Yorovam shall come to the grave, because in him there is found [some] good thing toward Yahweh Elohim of Yisrael in the house of Yorovam.

 14:14 Moreover Yähwè יָהוֶהº shall raise him upºº a kingº overº Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,º whoº shall cut offººº the houseº of Yorov`äm יָרָבעָםº thatº day:º but what?º evenº now.º

 14:14 Moreover Yahweh shall raise him up a king over Yisrael, who shall cut off the house of Yorovam that day: but what? even now.

 14:15 For Yähwè יָהוֶהº shall smiteººº Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,º asº a reedº is shakenºº in the water,º and he shall root upººº Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº out ofºº thisº goodº land,º whichº he gaveºº to their fathers,º and shall scatterºº them beyondºº the river,º becauseºº they have madeººº their groves,º provoking Yähwè יָהוֶהº to anger.ºººº

 14:15 For Yahweh shall smite Yisrael, as a reed is shaken in the water, and he shall root up Yisrael out of this good land, which he gave to their fathers, and shall scatter them beyond the river, because they have made their groves, provoking Yahweh to anger.

 14:16 And he shall giveºº Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº upºººº becauseº of the sinsº of Yorov`äm יָרָבעָם,º whoº did sin,ºº and whoº made Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº to sin.ºººº

 14:16 And he shall give Yisrael up because of the sins of Yorovam, who did sin, and who made Yisrael to sin.

 14:17 ¶ And Yorov`äm's יָרָבעָםº wifeº arose,ºº and departed,ººº and cameºº to Tirxà תִּרצָה:º [and] when sheº cameºº to the thresholdº of the door,º the childº died;ºº

 14:17 ¶ And Yorovam's wife arose, and departed, and came to Tirtzah: [and] when she came to the threshold of the door, the child died;

 14:18 And they buriedºº him; and allº Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº mournedºº for him, according to the wordº of Yähwè יָהוֶה,º whichº he spakeºº by the handº of his servantº ´Áçiyyà אֲחִיָּהº the prophet.º

 14:18 And they buried him; and all Yisrael mourned for him, according to the word of Yahweh, which he spake by the hand of his servant Achiyyah the prophet.

 14:19 And the restº of the actsº of Yorov`äm יָרָבעָם,º howº he warred,ºº and howº he reigned,ºº behold,º they [are] writtenºº inº the bookº of the chroniclesºº of the kingsº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל.º

 14:19 And the rest of the acts of Yorovam, how he warred, and how he reigned, behold, they [are] written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Yisrael.

 14:20 And the daysº whichº Yorov`äm יָרָבעָםº reignedºº [were] twoº and twentyº years:º and he sleptºº withº his fathers,º and Näðäv נָדָבº his sonº reignedºº in his stead.º

 14:20 And the days which Yorovam reigned [were] two and twenty years: and he slept with his fathers, and Nadav his son reigned in his stead.

 14:21 ¶ And Ræçav`äm רְחַבעָםº the sonº of Šælömò שְׁלֹמֹהº reignedºº in Yæhûðà יְהוּדָה.º Ræçav`äm רְחַבעָםº [was] fortyº and oneº yearsº oldº when he began to reign,ºº and he reignedºº seventeenºº yearsº in Yærûšälaim יְרוּשָׁלִַם,º the cityº whichº Yähwè יָהוֶהº did chooseºº out of allºº the tribesº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,º to putººº his nameº there.º And his mother'sº nameº [was] Na`ámà נַעֲמָהº an `Ammönî± עַמֹּנִית.ºº

 14:21 ¶ And Rechavam the son of Shelomoh reigned in Yehudah. Rechavam [was] forty and one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Yerushalaim, the city which Yahweh did choose out of all the tribes of Yisrael, to put his name there. And his mother's name [was] Naamah an Ammonith.

 14:22 And Yæhûðà יְהוּדָהº didºº evilº in the sightº of Yähwè יָהוֶה,º and they provoked him to jealousyººº with their sinsº whichº they had committed,ºº above allºº thatº their fathersº had done.ºº

 14:22 And Yehudah did evil in the sight of Yahweh, and they provoked him to jealousy with their sins which they had committed, above all that their fathers had done.

 14:23 For theyº alsoº builtºº them high places,º and images,º and groves,º onº everyº highº hill,º and underº everyº greenº tree.º

 14:23 For they also built them high places, and images, and groves, on every high hill, and under every green tree.

 14:24 And there wereº alsoº sodomitesº in the land:º [and] they didºº according to allº the abominationsº of the nationsº whichº Yähwè יָהוֶהº cast outºº beforeºº the childrenº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל.º

 14:24 And there were also sodomites in the land: [and] they did according to all the abominations of the nations which Yahweh cast out before the children of Yisrael.

 14:25 ¶ And it came to passº in the fifthº yearº of kingº Ræçav`äm רְחַבעָם,º [that] Šîšak שִׁישַׁקº kingº of Mixrayim מִצרַיִםº came upºº againstº Yærûšälaim יְרוּשָׁלִַם:º

 14:25 ¶ And it came to pass in the fifth year of king Rechavam, [that] Shishaq king of Mitzrayim came up against Yerushalaim:

 14:26 And he took awayººº the treasuresº of the houseº of Yähwè יָהוֶה,º and the treasuresº of the king'sº house;º he even took awayºº all:º and he took awayººº allº the shieldsº of goldº whichº Šælömò שְׁלֹמֹהº had made.ºº

 14:26 And he took away the treasures of the house of Yahweh, and the treasures of the king's house; he even took away all: and he took away all the shields of gold which Shelomoh had made.

 14:27 And kingº Ræçav`äm רְחַבעָםº madeºº in their steadº brasenº shields,º and committedºº [them] untoº the handsº of the chiefº of the guard,ºº which keptºº the doorº of the king'sº house.º

 14:27 And king Rechavam made in their stead brasen shields, and committed [them] unto the hands of the chief of the guard, which kept the door of the king's house.

 14:28 And it wasº [so], whenºº the kingº wentºº into the houseº of Yähwè יָהוֶה,º that the guardºº bareºº them, and brought them backºº intoº the guardºº chamber.º

 14:28 And it was [so], when the king went into the house of Yahweh, that the guard bare them, and brought them back into the guard chamber.

 14:29 ¶ Now the restº of the actsº of Ræçav`äm רְחַבעָם,º and allº thatº he did,ºº [are] theyº notº writtenºº inº the bookº of the chroniclesºº of the kingsº of Yæhûðà יְהוּדָה?º

 14:29 ¶ Now the rest of the acts of Rechavam, and all that he did, [are] they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Yehudah?

 14:30 And there wasº warº betweenº Ræçav`äm רְחַבעָםº and Yorov`äm יָרָבעָםº allº [their] days.º

 14:30 And there was war between Rechavam and Yorovam all [their] days.

 14:31 And Ræçav`äm רְחַבעָםº sleptºº withº his fathers,º and was buriedºº withº his fathersº in the cityº of Däwið דָּוִד.º And his mother'sº nameº [was] Na`ámà נַעֲמָהº an `Ammönî± עַמֹּנִית.ºº And ´Áviyyäm אֲבִיָּםº his sonº reignedºº in his stead.º

 14:31 And Rechavam slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of Dawid. And his mother's name [was] Naamah an Ammonith. And Aviyyam his son reigned in his stead.
