 3:1 ¶ And Šælömò שְׁלֹמֹהº made affinityºº withº Par`ò פַּרעֹהº kingº of Mixrayim מִצרַיִם,º and tookººº Par`ò's פַּרעֹהº daughter,º and broughtºº her intoº the cityº of Däwið דָּוִד,º untilº he had made an endºº of buildingººº his own house,º and the houseº of Yähwè יָהוֶה,º and the wallº of Yærûšälaim יְרוּשָׁלִַםº round about.º

 3:1 ¶ And Shelomoh made affinity with Paroh king of Mitzrayim, and took Paroh's daughter, and brought her into the city of Dawid, until he had made an end of building his own house, and the house of Yahweh, and the wall of Yerushalaim round about.

 3:2 Onlyº the peopleº sacrificedºº in high places,º becauseº there was noº houseº builtºº unto the nameº of Yähwè יָהוֶה,º untilº thoseº days.º

 3:2 Only the people sacrificed in high places, because there was no house built unto the name of Yahweh, until those days.

 3:3 And Šælömò שְׁלֹמֹהº lovedººº Yähwè יָהוֶה,º walkingººº in the statutesº of Däwið דָּוִדº his father:º onlyº heº sacrificedºº and burnt incenseºº in high places.º

 3:3 And Shelomoh loved Yahweh, walking in the statutes of Dawid his father: only he sacrificed and burnt incense in high places.

 3:4 And the kingº wentººº to Giv`ôn גִּבעוֹןº to sacrificeºº there;º forº thatº [was] the greatº high place:º a thousandº burnt offeringsº did Šælömò שְׁלֹמֹהº offerºº uponº thatº altar.º

 3:4 And the king went to Givon to sacrifice there; for that [was] the great high place: a thousand burnt offerings did Shelomoh offer upon that altar.

 3:5 ¶ In Giv`ôn גִּבעוֹןº Yähwè יָהוֶהº appearedºº toº Šælömò שְׁלֹמֹהº in a dreamº by night:º and ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº said,ºº Askºº whatº I shall giveºº thee.

 3:5 ¶ In Givon Yahweh appeared to Shelomoh in a dream by night: and Elohim said, Ask what I shall give thee.

 3:6 And Šælömò שְׁלֹמֹהº said,ºº Thouº hast shewedºº untoº thy servantº Däwið דָּוִדº my fatherº greatº mercy,º according asº he walkedºº beforeº thee in truth,º and in righteousness,º and in uprightnessº of heartº withº thee; and thou hast keptºº for himº thisº greatº kindness,º that thou hast givenºº him a sonº to sitºº onº his throne,º as [it is] thisº day.º

 3:6 And Shelomoh said, Thou hast shewed unto thy servant Dawid my father great mercy, according as he walked before thee in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him this great kindness, that thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as [it is] this day.

 3:7 And now,º O Yähwè יָהוֶהº my ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים,º thouº hast madeº thy servantº kingºº insteadº of Däwið דָּוִדº my father:º and Iº [am but] a littleº child:º I knowºº notº [how] to go outºº or come in.ºº

 3:7 And now, O Yahweh my Elohim, thou hast made thy servant king instead of Dawid my father: and I [am but] a little child: I know not [how] to go out or come in.

 3:8 And thy servantº [is] in the midstº of thy peopleº whichº thou hast chosen,ºº a greatº people,º thatº cannotº be numberedºº norº countedºº for multitude.ºº

 3:8 And thy servant [is] in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude.

 3:9 Giveºº therefore thy servantº an understandingºº heartº to judgeººº thy people,º that I may discernºº betweenº goodº and bad:º forº whoº is ableºº to judgeºº thisº thy so greatºº a people?º

 3:9 Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?

 3:10 And the speechº pleasedººº Yähwè יָהוֶה,º thatº Šælömò שְׁלֹמֹהº had askedººº thisº thing.º

 3:10 And the speech pleased Yahweh, that Shelomoh had asked this thing.

 3:11 And ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº saidºº untoº him, Becauseºº thou hast askedººº thisº thing,º and hast notº askedºº for thyself longº life;º neitherº hast askedºº richesº for thyself, norº hast askedºº the lifeº of thine enemies;ºº but hast askedºº for thyself understandingºº to discernºº judgment;º

 3:11 And Elohim said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment;

 3:12 Behold,º I have doneºº according to thy words:º lo,º I have givenºº thee a wiseº and an understandingºº heart;º so thatº there wasº noneº like theeº beforeº thee, neitherº afterº thee shall any ariseºº like unto thee.º

 3:12 Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.

 3:13 And I have alsoº givenºº thee that whichº thou hast notº asked,ºº bothº riches,º andº honour:º so thatº there shall notº beº anyº among the kingsº like unto theeº allº thy days.º

 3:13 And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches, and honour: so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee all thy days.

 3:14 And ifº thou wilt walkººº in my ways,º to keepºº my statutesº and my commandments,º asº thy fatherº Däwið דָּוִדº did walk,ºº then I will lengthenººº thy days.º

 3:14 And if thou wilt walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as thy father Dawid did walk, then I will lengthen thy days.

 3:15 And Šælömò שְׁלֹמֹהº awoke;ºº and, behold,º [it was] a dream.º And he cameºº to Yærûšälaim יְרוּשָׁלִַם,º and stoodºº beforeº the arkº of the covenantº of Yähwè יָהוֶה,ºº and offered upºº burnt offerings,º and offeredºº peace offerings,º and madeºº a feastº to allº his servants.º

 3:15 And Shelomoh awoke; and, behold, [it was] a dream. And he came to Yerushalaim, and stood before the ark of the covenant of Yahweh, and offered up burnt offerings, and offered peace offerings, and made a feast to all his servants.

 3:16 ¶ Thenº cameºº there twoº women,º [that were] harlots,ºº untoº the king,º and stoodºº beforeº him.

 3:16 ¶ Then came there two women, [that were] harlots, unto the king, and stood before him.

 3:17 And the oneº womanº said,ºº Oº my ´áðôn אֲדוֹן,º Iº and thisº womanº dwellºº in oneº house;º and I was delivered of a childºº withº her in the house.º

 3:17 And the one woman said, O my adon, I and this woman dwell in one house; and I was delivered of a child with her in the house.

 3:18 And it came to passº the thirdº dayº after that I was delivered,ºº that thisº womanº was deliveredºº also:º and weº [were] together;º [there was] noº strangerºº withº us in the house,º saveº weº twoº in the house.º

 3:18 And it came to pass the third day after that I was delivered, that this woman was delivered also: and we [were] together; [there was] no stranger with us in the house, save we two in the house.

 3:19 And thisº woman'sº childº diedºº in the night;º becauseº she overlaidººº it.

 3:19 And this woman's child died in the night; because she overlaid it.

 3:20 And she aroseºº at midnight,ºº and tookººº my sonº from besideºº me, while thine handmaidº slept,º and laidºº it in her bosom,º and laidºº her deadºº childº in my bosom.º

 3:20 And she arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me, while thine handmaid slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom.

 3:21 And when I roseºº in the morningº to give my childº suck,ººººº behold,º it was dead:ºº but when I had consideredººº it in the morning,º behold,º it wasº notº my son,º whichº I did bear.ºº

 3:21 And when I rose in the morning to give my child suck, behold, it was dead: but when I had considered it in the morning, behold, it was not my son, which I did bear.

 3:22 And the otherº womanº said,ºº Nay;º butº the livingº [is] my son,º and the deadºº [is] thy son.º And thisº said,ºº No;º butº the deadºº [is] thy son,º and the livingº [is] my son.º Thus they spakeºº beforeº the king.º

 3:22 And the other woman said, Nay; but the living [is] my son, and the dead [is] thy son. And this said, No; but the dead [is] thy son, and the living [is] my son. Thus they spake before the king.

 3:23 Then saidºº the king,º The oneº saith,ºº Thisº [is] my sonº that liveth,º and thy sonº [is] the dead:ºº and the otherº saith,ºº Nay;º butº thy sonº [is] the dead,ºº and my sonº [is] the living.º

 3:23 Then said the king, The one saith, This [is] my son that liveth, and thy son [is] the dead: and the other saith, Nay; but thy son [is] the dead, and my son [is] the living.

 3:24 And the kingº said,ºº Bringºº me a sword.º And they broughtºº a swordº beforeº the king.º

 3:24 And the king said, Bring me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king.

 3:25 And the kingº said,ºº Divideººº the livingº childº in two,º and giveººº halfº to the one,º and halfº to the other.º

 3:25 And the king said, Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other.

 3:26 Then spakeºº the womanº whoseº the livingº childº [was] untoº the king,º forº her bowelsº yearnedºº uponº her son,º and she said,ºº Oº my ´áðôn אֲדוֹן,º giveºº herº the livingº child,ºº and in noº wiseºº slayºº it. But the otherº said,ºº Let it beº neitherºº mine norº thine, [but] divideºº [it].

 3:26 Then spake the woman whose the living child [was] unto the king, for her bowels yearned upon her son, and she said, O my adon, give her the living child, and in no wise slay it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor thine, [but] divide [it].

 3:27 Then the kingº answeredºº and said,ºº Giveºº herº the livingº child,ºº and in noº wiseºº slayºº it: sheº [is] the motherº thereof.

 3:27 Then the king answered and said, Give her the living child, and in no wise slay it: she [is] the mother thereof.

 3:28 And allº Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº heardºº ofº the judgmentº whichº the kingº had judged;ºº and they fearedºººº the king:ºº forº they sawºº thatº the wisdomº of ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº [was] in him,º to doºº judgment.º

 3:28 And all Yisrael heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king: for they saw that the wisdom of Elohim [was] in him, to do judgment.
