Then the word of Yahweh came to Yehu the son of Chanani against Basha, saying, |

Forasmuchºº
as I exaltedºº
thee out ofº
the dust,º
and madeºº
thee princeº
overº
my peopleº
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל;º
and thou hast walkedººº
in the wayº
of
Yorov`äm
יָרָבעָם,º
and hast madeº
my peopleº
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵלº
to sin,ºº
to provoke me to angerºº
with their sins;º |

Forasmuch as I exalted thee out of the dust, and made thee prince over my people Yisrael; and thou hast walked in the way of Yorovam, and hast made my people Yisrael to sin, to provoke me to anger with their sins; |

Behold,º
I will take awayºº
the posterityº
of
Ba`šä´
בַּעשָׁא,º
and the posterityº
of his house;º
and will makeººº
thy houseº
like the houseº
of
Yorov`äm
יָרָבעָםº
the sonº
of
Nævä+
נְבָט.º |

Behold, I will take away the posterity of Basha, and the posterity of his house; and will make thy house like the house of Yorovam the son of Nevat. |

Him that diethºº

in the cityº
shall the dogsº
eat;ºº
and him that diethºº
of his in the fieldsº
shall the fowlsº
of the airº
eat.ºº |

Him that dieth of Basha in the city shall the dogs eat; and him that dieth of his in the fields shall the fowls of the air eat. |

Now the rest of the acts of Basha, and what he did, and his might, [are] they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Yisrael? |

his fathers,º
and was buriedºº
in

תִּרצָה:º
and
´Ëlà
אֵלָהº
his sonº
reignedºº
in his stead.º |

So Basha slept with his fathers, and was buried in Tirtzah: and Elah his son reigned in his stead. |

And alsoº
by the handº
of the prophetº

and againstº
his house,º

the evilº

of his hands,º

like the houseº

and becauseºº
he killedºº

And also by the hand of the prophet Yehu the son of Chanani came the word of Yahweh against Basha, and against his house, even for all the evil that he did in the sight of Yahweh, in provoking him to anger with the work of his hands, in being like the house of Yorovam; and because he killed him. |

In the twenty and sixth year of Asa king of Yehudah began Elah the son of Basha to reign over Yisrael in Tirtzah, two years. |

16:9
And his servantº
Zimrî
זִמרִי,º
captainº
of halfº
[his] chariots,º
conspiredºº
againstº
him, as heº
was in
Tirxà
תִּרצָה,º
drinkingºº
himself drunkº
in the houseº
of
´Arxä´
אַרצָאº
stewardº
of [his] houseº
in
Tirxà
תִּרצָה.º |

And his servant Zimri, captain of half [his] chariots, conspired against him, as he was in Tirtzah, drinking himself drunk in the house of Artza steward of [his] house in Tirtzah. |
|
16:10
And
Zimrî
זִמרִיº
went inºº
and smoteºº
him, and killedºº
him, in the twentyº
and seventhº
yearº
of
´Äsä´
אָסָאº
kingº
of
Yæhûðà
יְהוּדָה,º
and reignedºº
in his stead.º |

16:10
And Zimri went in and smote him, and killed him, in the twenty and seventh year of Asa king of Yehudah, and reigned in his stead. |
|
16:11 ¶
And it came to pass,º
when he began to reign,ºº
as soon as he satºº
onº
his throne,º
[that] he slewººº
allº
the houseº
of
Ba`šä´
בַּעשָׁא:º
he leftºº
him notº
one that pissethºº
against a wall,º
neither of his kinsfolks,ºº
nor of his friends.º |

16:11 ¶
And it came to pass, when he began to reign, as soon as he sat on his throne, [that] he slew all the house of Basha: he left him not one that pisseth against a wall, neither of his kinsfolks, nor of his friends. |
|
16:12
Thus did

according to the wordº

יָהוֶה,º
whichº
he spakeºº
againstº

Thus did Zimri destroy all the house of Basha, according to the word of Yahweh, which he spake against Basha by Yehu the prophet, |

his son,º
by whichº
they sinned,ºº
and by whichº

For all the sins of Basha, and the sins of Elah his son, by which they sinned, and by which they made Yisrael to sin, in provoking Yahweh Elohim of Yisrael to anger with their vanities. |

16:15 ¶
In the twenty and seventh year of Asa king of Yehudah did Zimri reign seven days in Tirtzah. And the people [were] encamped against Gibbethon, which [belonged] to the Pelishtim. |
|
16:16
And the peopleº
[that were] encampedºº
heardºº
say,ºº
Zimrî
זִמרִיº
hath conspired,ºº
and hath alsoº
slainººº
the king:º
wherefore allº
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵלº
madeº
`Omrî
עָמרִי,º
the captainº
of the host,º
kingºº
overº
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵלº
thatº
dayº
in the camp.º |

16:16
And the people [that were] encamped heard say, Zimri hath conspired, and hath also slain the king: wherefore all Yisrael made Omri, the captain of the host, king over Yisrael that day in the camp. |
|
16:17
And

went upºº
fromº
Gibbæ±ôn
גִּבְּתוֹן,º
and allº
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵלº
withº
him, and they besiegedººº
Tirxà
תִּרצָה.º |

And Omri went up from Gibbethon, and all Yisrael with him, and they besieged Tirtzah. |
|
16:18
And it came to pass,º
when
Zimrî
זִמרִיº
sawºº
thatº
the cityº
was taken,ºº
that he wentºº
intoº
the palaceº
of the king'sº
house,º
and burntººº
the king'sº
houseº
overº
him with fire,º
and died,ºº |

And it came to pass, when Zimri saw that the city was taken, that he went into the palace of the king's house, and burnt the king's house over him with fire, and died, |

For his sins which he sinned in doing evil in the sight of Yahweh, in walking in the way of Yorovam, and in his sin which he did, to make Yisrael to sin. |

dividedºº
into two parts:º
halfº
of the peopleº
followedººº
Tivnî
תִּבנִיº
the sonº

Gîna±
גִּינַת,º
to make him king;ºº
and halfº
followedº
`Omrî
עָמרִי.º |

16:21 ¶
Then were the people of Yisrael divided into two parts: half of the people followed Tivni the son of Ginath, to make him king; and half followed Omri. |
|
16:22
But the peopleº
thatº
followedº
`Omrî
עָמרִיº
prevailedºº
againstººº
the peopleº
thatº
followedº
Tivnî
תִּבנִיº
the sonº
of
Gîna±
גִּינַת:º
so
Tivnî
תִּבנִיº
died,ºº
and
`Omrî

reigned.ºº |

But the people that followed Omri prevailed against the people that followed Tivni the son of Ginath: so Tivni died, and Omri reigned. |

16:23 ¶
In the thirty and first year of Asa king of Yehudah began Omri to reign over Yisrael, twelve years: six years reigned he in Tirtzah. |
|
16:24
And he boughtººº
the hillº

שֹׁמרוֹןº
ofºº
Šemer
שֶׁמֶרº
for two talentsº
of silver,º
and builtºº
onºº
the hill,º
and calledººº
the nameº
of the cityº
whichº
he built,ºº
afterº
the nameº
of
Šemer
שֶׁמֶר,º
´áðôn
אֲדוֹןº
of the hill,º
Šömrôn
שֹׁמרוֹן.º |

And he bought the hill Shomron of Shemer for two talents of silver, and built on the hill, and called the name of the city which he built, after the name of Shemer, adon of the hill, Shomron. |

16:25 ¶
But

in the eyesº

יָהוֶה,º
and did worseºº
than allºº
thatº
[were] beforeº
him. |

16:25 ¶
But Omri wrought evil in the eyes of Yahweh, and did worse than all that [were] before him. |

For he walkedººº

wherewithº
he made

And it came to pass, as if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Yorovam the son of Nevat, that he took to wife Izevel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Tzidonim, and went and served Baal, and worshipped him. |

And he reared upºº
an altarº

in the houseº

Bä`al
בָּעַל,º
whichº
he had builtºº

שֹׁמרוֹן.º |

And he reared up an altar for Baal in the house of Baal, which he had built in Shomron. |

In his days did Chiel the Beth-Eli build Yericho: he laid the foundation thereof in Aviram his firstborn, and set up the gates thereof in his youngest [son] Seguv, according to the word of Yahweh, which he spake by Yehoshua the son of Nun. |
