 20:1 ¶ And it came to passº in the seventhº year,º in the fifthº [month], the tenthº [day] of the month,º [that] certainºº of the eldersºº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº cameºº to enquireººº of Yähwè יָהוֶה,º and satºº beforeº me.

 20:1 ¶ And it came to pass in the seventh year, in the fifth [month], the tenth [day] of the month, [that] certain of the elders of Yisrael came to enquire of Yahweh, and sat before me.

 20:2 Then cameº the wordº of Yähwè יָהוֶהº untoº me, saying,ºº

 20:2 Then came the word of Yahweh unto me, saying,

 20:3 Sonº of man,º speakººº unto the eldersº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,º and sayºº untoº them, Thusº saithºº ´Áðönäy אֲדֹנָיº Yähwè יָהוֶה;º Are yeº comeºº to enquireºº of me? [As] Iº live,º saithºº ´Áðönäy אֲדֹנָיº Yähwè יָהוֶה,º I will notº be enquiredºº of by you.

 20:3 Son of man, speak unto the elders of Yisrael, and say unto them, Thus saith Adonay Yahweh; Are ye come to enquire of me? [As] I live, saith Adonay Yahweh, I will not be enquired of by you.

 20:4 Wilt thou judgeºº them, sonº of man,º wilt thou judgeºº [them]? cause them to knowººº the abominationsº of their fathers:º

 20:4 Wilt thou judge them, son of man, wilt thou judge [them]? cause them to know the abominations of their fathers:

 20:5 ¶ And sayºº untoº them, Thusº saithºº ´Áðönäy אֲדֹנָיº Yähwè יָהוֶה;º In the dayº when I choseºº Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,º and lifted upºº mine handº unto the seedº of the houseº of Ya`áköv יַעֲקֹב,º and made myself knownºº unto them in the landº of Mixrayim מִצרַיִם,º when I liftedºº upº mine handº unto them, saying,ºº Iº [am] Yähwè יָהוֶהº your ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים;º

 20:5 ¶ And say unto them, Thus saith Adonay Yahweh; In the day when I chose Yisrael, and lifted up mine hand unto the seed of the house of Yaaqov, and made myself known unto them in the land of Mitzrayim, when I lifted up mine hand unto them, saying, I [am] Yahweh your Elohim;

 20:6 In the dayº [that] I lifted upºº mine handº unto them, to bring them forthºº of the landºº of Mixrayim מִצרַיִםº intoº a landº thatº I had espiedºº for them, flowingºº with milkº and honey,º whichº [is] the gloryº of allº lands:º

 20:6 In the day [that] I lifted up mine hand unto them, to bring them forth of the land of Mitzrayim into a land that I had espied for them, flowing with milk and honey, which [is] the glory of all lands:

 20:7 Then saidºº I untoº them, Cast ye awayºº every manº the abominationsº of his eyes,º and defileºº not yourselvesºº with the idolsº of Mixrayim מִצרַיִם:º Iº [am] Yähwè יָהוֶהº your ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים.º

 20:7 Then said I unto them, Cast ye away every man the abominations of his eyes, and defile not yourselves with the idols of Mitzrayim: I [am] Yahweh your Elohim.

 20:8 But they rebelledºº against me, and wouldºº notº hearkenºº untoº me: they did notº every manº cast awayººº the abominationsº of their eyes,º neitherº did they forsakeºº the idolsº of Mixrayim מִצרַיִם:º then I said,ºº I will pour outºº my furyº uponº them, to accomplishºº my angerº against them in the midstº of the landº of Mixrayim מִצרַיִם.º

 20:8 But they rebelled against me, and would not hearken unto me: they did not every man cast away the abominations of their eyes, neither did they forsake the idols of Mitzrayim: then I said, I will pour out my fury upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the midst of the land of Mitzrayim.

 20:9 But I wroughtºº for my name'sº sake,ºº that it should notº be pollutedºº beforeº the heathen,º amongº whomº theyº [were], in whoseº sightº I made myself knownºº untoº them, in bringing them forthºº out of the landºº of Mixrayim מִצרַיִם.º

 20:9 But I wrought for my name's sake, that it should not be polluted before the heathen, among whom they [were], in whose sight I made myself known unto them, in bringing them forth out of the land of Mitzrayim.

 20:10 ¶ Wherefore I caused them to goº forthºº out of the landºº of Mixrayim מִצרַיִם,º and broughtºº them intoº the wilderness.º

 20:10 ¶ Wherefore I caused them to go forth out of the land of Mitzrayim, and brought them into the wilderness.

 20:11 And I gaveºº themº my statutes,º and shewedºº them my judgments,º whichº [if] a manº do,ººº he shall even liveººº in them.

 20:11 And I gave them my statutes, and shewed them my judgments, which [if] a man do, he shall even live in them.

 20:12 Moreover alsoº I gaveºº themº my sabbaths,º to beº a signº betweenº me and them, that they might knowºº thatº Iº [am] Yähwè יָהוֶהº Mækaddiš¢em מְקַדִּשׁכֶם.ºº

 20:12 Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I [am] Yahweh Meqaddishkhem.

 20:13 But the houseº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº rebelledºº against me in the wilderness:º they walkedºº notº in my statutes,º and they despisedºº my judgments,º whichº [if] a manº do,ººº he shall even liveººº in them; and my sabbathsº they greatlyº polluted:ºº then I said,ºº I would pour outºº my furyº uponº them in the wilderness,º to consumeºº them.

 20:13 But the house of Yisrael rebelled against me in the wilderness: they walked not in my statutes, and they despised my judgments, which [if] a man do, he shall even live in them; and my sabbaths they greatly polluted: then I said, I would pour out my fury upon them in the wilderness, to consume them.

 20:14 But I wroughtºº for my name'sº sake,ºº that it should notº be pollutedºº beforeº the heathen,º in whoseº sightº I brought them out.ºº

 20:14 But I wrought for my name's sake, that it should not be polluted before the heathen, in whose sight I brought them out.

 20:15 Yet alsoº Iº lifted upºº my handº unto them in the wilderness,º that I would notº bringºº them intoº the landº whichº I had givenºº [them], flowingºº with milkº and honey,º whichº [is] the gloryº of allº lands;º

 20:15 Yet also I lifted up my hand unto them in the wilderness, that I would not bring them into the land which I had given [them], flowing with milk and honey, which [is] the glory of all lands;

 20:16 Becauseº they despisedºº my judgments,º and walkedºº notº in my statutes,º but pollutedºº my sabbaths:º forº their heartº wentºº afterº their idols.º

 20:16 Because they despised my judgments, and walked not in my statutes, but polluted my sabbaths: for their heart went after their idols.

 20:17 Nevertheless mine eyeº sparedººº them from destroyingººº them, neitherº did I makeºº an endº of them in the wilderness.º

 20:17 Nevertheless mine eye spared them from destroying them, neither did I make an end of them in the wilderness.

 20:18 But I saidºº untoº their childrenº in the wilderness,º Walkººº ye notº in the statutesº of your fathers,º neitherº observeºº their judgments,º norº defileºº yourselvesº with their idols:º

 20:18 But I said unto their children in the wilderness, Walk ye not in the statutes of your fathers, neither observe their judgments, nor defile yourselves with their idols:

 20:19 Iº [am] Yähwè יָהוֶהº your ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים;º walkººº in my statutes,º and keepºº my judgments,º and doºº them;

 20:19 I [am] Yahweh your Elohim; walk in my statutes, and keep my judgments, and do them;

 20:20 And hallowºº my sabbaths;º and they shall beº a signº betweenº me and you, that ye may knowºº thatº Iº [am] Yähwè יָהוֶהº your ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים.º

 20:20 And hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I [am] Yahweh your Elohim.

 20:21 Notwithstanding the childrenº rebelledºº against me: they walkedºº notº in my statutes,º neitherº keptºº my judgmentsº to doºº them, whichº [if] a manº do,ººº he shall even liveººº in them; they pollutedººº my sabbaths:º then I said,ºº I would pour outºº my furyº uponº them, to accomplishºº my angerº against them in the wilderness.º

 20:21 Notwithstanding the children rebelled against me: they walked not in my statutes, neither kept my judgments to do them, which [if] a man do, he shall even live in them; they polluted my sabbaths: then I said, I would pour out my fury upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the wilderness.

 20:22 Nevertheless I withdrewººº mine hand,º and wroughtºº for my name'sº sake,ºº that it should notº be pollutedºº in the sightº of the heathen,º in whoseº sightº I brought them forth.ººº

 20:22 Nevertheless I withdrew mine hand, and wrought for my name's sake, that it should not be polluted in the sight of the heathen, in whose sight I brought them forth.

 20:23 Iº lifted upººº mine handº unto them alsoº in the wilderness,º that I would scatterºº them among the heathen,º and disperseºº them through the countries;º

 20:23 I lifted up mine hand unto them also in the wilderness, that I would scatter them among the heathen, and disperse them through the countries;

 20:24 Becauseº they had notº executedºº my judgments,º but had despisedºº my statutes,º and had pollutedºº my sabbaths,º and their eyesº wereº afterº their fathers'º idols.º

 20:24 Because they had not executed my judgments, but had despised my statutes, and had polluted my sabbaths, and their eyes were after their fathers' idols.

 20:25 Wherefore Iº gaveºº them alsoº statutesº [that were] notº good,º and judgmentsº whereby they should notº live;ºº

 20:25 Wherefore I gave them also statutes [that were] not good, and judgments whereby they should not live;

 20:26 And I pollutedºº them in their own gifts,º in that they caused to pass throughºº [the fire] allº that openethº the womb,º thatº I might make them desolate,ºº to the endº thatº they might knowºº thatº Iº [am] Yähwè יָהוֶה.º

 20:26 And I polluted them in their own gifts, in that they caused to pass through [the fire] all that openeth the womb, that I might make them desolate, to the end that they might know that I [am] Yahweh.

 20:27 ¶ Therefore,º sonº of man,º speakºº untoº the houseº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,º and sayºº untoº them, Thusº saithºº ´Áðönäy אֲדֹנָיº Yähwè יָהוֶה;º Yetº in thisº your fathersº have blasphemedºº me, in that they have committedºº a trespassº against me.

 20:27 ¶ Therefore, son of man, speak unto the house of Yisrael, and say unto them, Thus saith Adonay Yahweh; Yet in this your fathers have blasphemed me, in that they have committed a trespass against me.

 20:28 [For] when I had broughtºº them intoº the land,º [for] the whichº I lifted upººº mine handº to giveºº it to them, then they sawºº everyº highºº hill,º and allº the thickº trees,º and they offeredºº thereºº their sacrifices,º and thereº they presentedºº the provocationº of their offering:º thereº also they madeºº their sweetº savour,º and poured outºº thereºº their drink offerings.º

 20:28 [For] when I had brought them into the land, [for] the which I lifted up mine hand to give it to them, then they saw every high hill, and all the thick trees, and they offered there their sacrifices, and there they presented the provocation of their offering: there also they made their sweet savour, and poured out there their drink offerings.

 20:29 Then I saidºº untoº them, Whatº [is] the high placeº whereuntoºº yeº go?ºº And the nameº thereof is calledºº Bämà בָּמָהº untoº thisº day.º

 20:29 Then I said unto them, What [is] the high place whereunto ye go? And the name thereof is called Bamah unto this day.

 20:30 Whereforeº sayºº untoº the houseº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,º Thusº saithºº ´Áðönäy אֲדֹנָיº Yähwè יָהוֶה;º Are yeº pollutedºº after the mannerº of your fathers?º and commit ye whoredomººº afterº their abominations?º

 20:30 Wherefore say unto the house of Yisrael, Thus saith Adonay Yahweh; Are ye polluted after the manner of your fathers? and commit ye whoredom after their abominations?

 20:31 For when ye offerºº your gifts,º when ye make your sonsº to passº throughºº the fire,º yeº polluteºº yourselvesº with allº your idols,º even untoº this day:º and shall Iº be enquiredºº ofº by you, O houseº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל?º [As] Iº live,º saithºº ´Áðönäy אֲדֹנָיº Yähwè יָהוֶה,º I will notº be enquiredºº ofº by you.

 20:31 For when ye offer your gifts, when ye make your sons to pass through the fire, ye pollute yourselves with all your idols, even unto this day: and shall I be enquired of by you, O house of Yisrael? [As] I live, saith Adonay Yahweh, I will not be enquired of by you.

 20:32 And that which comethºº intoº your mindº shall notº be at all,º thatº yeº say,ºº We will beºº as the heathen,º as the familiesº of the countries,º to serveºº woodº and stone.º

 20:32 And that which cometh into your mind shall not be at all, that ye say, We will be as the heathen, as the families of the countries, to serve wood and stone.

 20:33 ¶ [As] Iº live,º saithºº ´Áðönäy אֲדֹנָיº Yähwè יָהוֶה,º surelyºº with a mightyº hand,º and with a stretched outºº arm,º and with furyº poured out,ºº will I ruleºº overº you:

 20:33 ¶ [As] I live, saith Adonay Yahweh, surely with a mighty hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with fury poured out, will I rule over you:

 20:34 And I will bring you outººº fromº the people,º and will gatherºº you out ofº the countriesº whereinº ye are scattered,ºº with a mightyº hand,º and with a stretched outºº arm,º and with furyº poured out.ºº

 20:34 And I will bring you out from the people, and will gather you out of the countries wherein ye are scattered, with a mighty hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with fury poured out.

 20:35 And I will bringºº you intoº the wildernessº of the people,º and thereº will I pleadºº withº you faceº toº face.º

 20:35 And I will bring you into the wilderness of the people, and there will I plead with you face to face.

 20:36 Like asº I pleadedºº withº your fathersº in the wildernessº of the landº of Mixrayim מִצרַיִם,º soº will I pleadºº withº you, saithºº ´Áðönäy אֲדֹנָיº Yähwè יָהוֶה.º

 20:36 Like as I pleaded with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Mitzrayim, so will I plead with you, saith Adonay Yahweh.

 20:37 And I will cause you to passºº underº the rod,º and I will bringºº you into the bondº of the covenant:º

 20:37 And I will cause you to pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant:

 20:38 And I will purge outºº fromº among you the rebels,ºº and them that transgressºº against me: I will bring them forthººº out of the countryºº where they sojourn,º and they shall notº enterºº intoº the landº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל:º and ye shall knowºº thatº Iº [am] Yähwè יָהוֶה.º

 20:38 And I will purge out from among you the rebels, and them that transgress against me: I will bring them forth out of the country where they sojourn, and they shall not enter into the land of Yisrael: and ye shall know that I [am] Yahweh.

 20:39 As for you,º O houseº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,º thusº saithºº ´Áðönäy אֲדֹנָיº Yähwè יָהוֶה;º Goººº ye, serveºº ye every oneº his idols,º and hereafterº [also], ifº ye will notº hearkenºº untoº me: but polluteºº ye my holyº nameº noº moreº with your gifts,º and with your idols.º

 20:39 As for you, O house of Yisrael, thus saith Adonay Yahweh; Go ye, serve ye every one his idols, and hereafter [also], if ye will not hearken unto me: but pollute ye my holy name no more with your gifts, and with your idols.

 20:40 Forº in mine holyº mountain,º in the mountainº of the heightº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,º saithºº ´Áðönäy אֲדֹנָיº Yähwè יָהוֶה,º thereº shall allº the houseº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,º allº of them in the land,º serveºº me: thereº will I acceptºº them, and thereº will I requireººº your offerings,º and the firstfruitsº of your oblations,º with allº your holy things.º

 20:40 For in mine holy mountain, in the mountain of the height of Yisrael, saith Adonay Yahweh, there shall all the house of Yisrael, all of them in the land, serve me: there will I accept them, and there will I require your offerings, and the firstfruits of your oblations, with all your holy things.

 20:41 I will acceptºº you with your sweetº savour,º when I bring you outººº fromº the people,º and gatherºº you out ofº the countriesº whereinº ye have been scattered;ºº and I will be sanctifiedºº in you beforeº the heathen.º

 20:41 I will accept you with your sweet savour, when I bring you out from the people, and gather you out of the countries wherein ye have been scattered; and I will be sanctified in you before the heathen.

 20:42 And ye shall knowºº thatº Iº [am] Yähwè יָהוֶה,º when I shall bringºº you intoº the landº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,º intoº the countryº [for] the whichº I lifted upººº mine handº to giveºº it to your fathers.º

 20:42 And ye shall know that I [am] Yahweh, when I shall bring you into the land of Yisrael, into the country [for] the which I lifted up mine hand to give it to your fathers.

 20:43 And thereº shall ye rememberººº your ways,º and allº your doings,º whereinº ye have been defiled;ºº and ye shall lotheºº yourselvesº in your own sightº for allº your evilsº thatº ye have committed.ºº

 20:43 And there shall ye remember your ways, and all your doings, wherein ye have been defiled; and ye shall lothe yourselves in your own sight for all your evils that ye have committed.

 20:44 And ye shall knowºº thatº Iº [am] Yähwè יָהוֶה,º when I have wroughtºº withº you for my name'sº sake,ºº notº according to your wickedº ways,º nor according to your corruptºº doings,º O ye houseº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,º saithºº ´Áðönäy אֲדֹנָיº Yähwè יָהוֶה.º

 20:44 And ye shall know that I [am] Yahweh, when I have wrought with you for my name's sake, not according to your wicked ways, nor according to your corrupt doings, O ye house of Yisrael, saith Adonay Yahweh.

 20:45 ¶ Moreover the wordº of Yähwè יָהוֶהº cameº untoº me, saying,ºº

 20:45 ¶ Moreover the word of Yahweh came unto me, saying,

 20:46 Sonº of man,º setºº thy faceº towardº the south,º and dropºº [thy word] towardº the south,º and prophesyºº againstº the forestº of the southº field;º

 20:46 Son of man, set thy face toward the south, and drop [thy word] toward the south, and prophesy against the forest of the south field;

 20:47 And sayºº to the forestº of the south,º Hearºº the wordº of Yähwè יָהוֶה;º Thusº saithºº ´Áðönäy אֲדֹנָיº Yähwè יָהוֶה;º Behold,º I will kindleºº a fireº in thee, and it shall devourºº everyº greenº treeº in thee, and everyº dryº tree:º the flamingº flameº shall notº be quenched,ºº and allº facesº from the southºº to the northº shall be burnedºº therein.

 20:47 And say to the forest of the south, Hear the word of Yahweh; Thus saith Adonay Yahweh; Behold, I will kindle a fire in thee, and it shall devour every green tree in thee, and every dry tree: the flaming flame shall not be quenched, and all faces from the south to the north shall be burned therein.

 20:48 And allº fleshº shall seeºº thatº Iº Yähwè יָהוֶהº have kindledºº it: it shall notº be quenched.ºº

 20:48 And all flesh shall see that I Yahweh have kindled it: it shall not be quenched.

 20:49 Then saidºº I, Ahº ´Áðönäy אֲדֹנָיº Yähwè יָהוֶה!º theyº sayºº of me, Doth heº notº speakºº parables?º

 20:49 Then said I, Ah Adonay Yahweh! they say of me, Doth he not speak parables?
