 23:1 ¶ And Bil`äm בִּלעָםº saidºº untoº Bäläk בָּלָק,º Buildºº me hereº sevenº altars,º and prepareºº me hereº sevenº oxenº and sevenº rams.º

 23:1 ¶ And Bilam said unto Balaq, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven oxen and seven rams.

 23:2 And Bäläk בָּלָקº didºº asº Bil`äm בִּלעָםº had spoken;ºº and Bäläk בָּלָקº and Bil`äm בִּלעָםº offeredºº on [every] altarº a bullockº and a ram.º

 23:2 And Balaq did as Bilam had spoken; and Balaq and Bilam offered on [every] altar a bullock and a ram.

 23:3 And Bil`äm בִּלעָםº saidºº unto Bäläk בָּלָק,º Standºº byº thy burnt offering,º and I will go:ººº peradventureº Yähwè יָהוֶהº will comeºº to meetºº me: and whatsoeverºº he shewethºº me I will tellºº thee. And he wentººº to an high place.º

 23:3 And Bilam said unto Balaq, Stand by thy burnt offering, and I will go: peradventure Yahweh will come to meet me: and whatsoever he sheweth me I will tell thee. And he went to an high place.

 23:4 And ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº metººº Bil`äm בִּלעָם:º and he saidºº untoº him, I have preparedººº sevenº altars,º and I have offeredºº upon [every] altarº a bullockº and a ram.º

 23:4 And Elohim met Bilam: and he said unto him, I have prepared seven altars, and I have offered upon [every] altar a bullock and a ram.

 23:5 And Yähwè יָהוֶהº putºº a wordº in Bil`äm's בִּלעָםº mouth,º and said,ºº Returnºº untoº Bäläk בָּלָק,º and thusº thou shalt speak.ºº

 23:5 And Yahweh put a word in Bilam's mouth, and said, Return unto Balaq, and thus thou shalt speak.

 23:6 And he returnedºº untoº him, and, lo,º he stoodºº byº his burnt sacrifice,º he,º and allº the princesº of Mô´äv מוֹאָב.º

 23:6 And he returned unto him, and, lo, he stood by his burnt sacrifice, he, and all the princes of Moav.

 23:7 And he took upºº his parable,º and said,ºº Bäläk בָּלָקº the kingº of Mô´äv מוֹאָבº hath broughtºº me fromº ´Áräm אֲרָם,º out of the mountainsºº of the east,º [saying], Come,ººº curseºº me Ya`áköv יַעֲקֹב,º and come,ººº defyºº Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל.º

 23:7 And he took up his parable, and said, Balaq the king of Moav hath brought me from Aram, out of the mountains of the east, [saying], Come, curse me Yaaqov, and come, defy Yisrael.

 23:8 Howº shall I curse,ººº whom ´Ël אֵלº hath notº cursed?ºº or howº shall I defy,ºº [whom] Yähwè יָהוֶהº hath notº defied?ºº

 23:8 How shall I curse, whom El hath not cursed? or how shall I defy, [whom] Yahweh hath not defied?

 23:9 Forº from the topºº of the rocksº I seeºº him, and from the hillsºº I beholdºº him: lo,º the peopleº shall dwellºº alone,º and shall notº be reckonedºº among the nations.º

 23:9 For from the top of the rocks I see him, and from the hills I behold him: lo, the people shall dwell alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations.

 23:10 Whoº can countºº the dustº of Ya`áköv יַעֲקֹב,º and the numberº ofº the fourthº [part] of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל?º Let meº dieººº the deathº of the righteous,º and let my lastº endº beº like his!º

 23:10 Who can count the dust of Yaaqov, and the number of the fourth [part] of Yisrael? Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his!

 23:11 And Bäläk בָּלָקº saidºº untoº Bil`äm בִּלעָם,º Whatº hast thou doneºº unto me? I tookºº thee to curseºº mine enemies,ºº and, behold,º thou hast blessedºº [them] altogether.ºº

 23:11 And Balaq said unto Bilam, What hast thou done unto me? I took thee to curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou hast blessed [them] altogether.

 23:12 And he answeredºº and said,ºº Must I notº take heedºº to speakºº thatº whichº Yähwè יָהוֶהº hath putºº in my mouth?º

 23:12 And he answered and said, Must I not take heed to speak that which Yahweh hath put in my mouth?

 23:13 And Bäläk בָּלָקº saidºº untoº him, Come,ººº I pray thee,º withº me untoº anotherº place,º from whenceººº thou mayest seeºº them: thou shalt seeºº butº the utmostº partº of them, and shalt notº seeºº them all:º and curseºº me them from thence.ºº

 23:13 And Balaq said unto him, Come, I pray thee, with me unto another place, from whence thou mayest see them: thou shalt see but the utmost part of them, and shalt not see them all: and curse me them from thence.

 23:14 ¶ And he broughtºº him into the fieldº of Xöfîm צֹפִים,ºººº toº the topº of Pisgà פִּסגָּה,º and builtºº sevenº altars,º and offeredºº a bullockº and a ramº on [every] altar.º

 23:14 ¶ And he brought him into the field of Tzofim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars, and offered a bullock and a ram on [every] altar.

 23:15 And he saidºº untoº Bäläk בָּלָק,º Standºº hereº byº thy burnt offering,º while Iº meetºº [Yähwè יָהוֶה] yonder.º

 23:15 And he said unto Balaq, Stand here by thy burnt offering, while I meet [Yahweh] yonder.

 23:16 And Yähwè יָהוֶהº metººº Bil`äm בִּלעָם,º and putºº a wordº in his mouth,º and said,ºº Go againºº untoº Bäläk בָּלָק,º and sayºº thus.º

 23:16 And Yahweh met Bilam, and put a word in his mouth, and said, Go again unto Balaq, and say thus.

 23:17 And when he cameºº toº him, behold,º he stoodºº byº his burnt offering,º and the princesº of Mô´äv מוֹאָבº withº him. And Bäläk בָּלָקº saidºº unto him, Whatº hath Yähwè יָהוֶהº spoken?ºº

 23:17 And when he came to him, behold, he stood by his burnt offering, and the princes of Moav with him. And Balaq said unto him, What hath Yahweh spoken?

 23:18 And he took upºº his parable,º and said,ºº Rise up,ºº Bäläk בָּלָק,º and hear;ºº hearkenºº untoº me, thou sonº of Xippôr צִפּוֹר:º

 23:18 And he took up his parable, and said, Rise up, Balaq, and hear; hearken unto me, thou son of Tzippor:

 23:19 ´Ël אֵלº [is] notº a man,º that he should lie;ºº neither the sonº of man,º that he should repent:ºº hath heº said,ºº and shall he notº doºº [it]? or hath he spoken,ºº and shall he notº make it good?ºº

 23:19 El [is] not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do [it]? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

 23:20 Behold,º I have receivedºº [commandment] to bless:ºº and he hath blessed;ºº and I cannotº reverseºº it.

 23:20 Behold, I have received [commandment] to bless: and he hath blessed; and I cannot reverse it.

 23:21 He hath notº beheldºº iniquityº in Ya`áköv יַעֲקֹב,º neitherº hath he seenºº perversenessº in Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל:º Yähwè יָהוֶהº his ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº [is] withº him, and the shoutº of a kingº [is] among them.

 23:21 He hath not beheld iniquity in Yaaqov, neither hath he seen perverseness in Yisrael: Yahweh his Elohim [is] with him, and the shout of a king [is] among them.

 23:22 ´Ël אֵלº brought them outºº of Mixrayim מִצרַיִם;ºº he hath as it were the strengthº of an unicorn.º

 23:22 El brought them out of Mitzrayim; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn.

 23:23 Surelyº [there is] noº enchantmentº against Ya`áköv יַעֲקֹב,º neitherº [is there] any divinationº against Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל:º according to this timeº it shall be saidºº of Ya`áköv יַעֲקֹבº and of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,º Whatº hath ´Ël אֵלº wrought!ºº

 23:23 Surely [there is] no enchantment against Yaaqov, neither [is there] any divination against Yisrael: according to this time it shall be said of Yaaqov and of Yisrael, What hath El wrought!

 23:24 Behold,º the peopleº shall rise upºº as a great lion,º and lift upºº himselfº as a young lion:º he shall notº lie downºº untilº he eatºº [of] the prey,º and drinkºº the bloodº of the slain.º

 23:24 Behold, the people shall rise up as a great lion, and lift up himself as a young lion: he shall not lie down until he eat [of] the prey, and drink the blood of the slain.

 23:25 ¶ And Bäläk בָּלָקº saidºº untoº Bil`äm בִּלעָם,º Neitherºº curseºº them at all,ºº norºº blessºº them at all.ºº

 23:25 ¶ And Balaq said unto Bilam, Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all.

 23:26 But Bil`äm בִּלעָםº answeredºº and saidºº untoº Bäläk בָּלָק,º Toldººº notº I thee, saying,ºº Allº thatº Yähwè יָהוֶהº speaketh,ºº that I must do?ºº

 23:26 But Bilam answered and said unto Balaq, Told not I thee, saying, All that Yahweh speaketh, that I must do?

 23:27 ¶ And Bäläk בָּלָקº saidºº untoº Bil`äm בִּלעָם,º Come,ººº I pray thee,º I will bringºº thee untoº anotherº place;º peradventureº it will pleaseººº ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº that thou mayest curseºº me them from thence.ºº

 23:27 ¶ And Balaq said unto Bilam, Come, I pray thee, I will bring thee unto another place; peradventure it will please Elohim that thou mayest curse me them from thence.

 23:28 And Bäläk בָּלָקº broughtººº Bil`äm בִּלעָםº unto the topº of Pæ`ôr פְּעוֹר,º that lookethºº towardºº Yæšîmön יְשִׁימֹן.º

 23:28 And Balaq brought Bilam unto the top of Peor, that looketh toward Yeshimon.

 23:29 And Bil`äm בִּלעָםº saidºº untoº Bäläk בָּלָק,º Buildºº me hereº sevenº altars,º and prepareºº me hereº sevenº bullocksº and sevenº rams.º

 23:29 And Bilam said unto Balaq, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven bullocks and seven rams.

 23:30 And Bäläk בָּלָקº didºº asº Bil`äm בִּלעָםº had said,ºº and offeredºº a bullockº and a ramº on [every] altar.º

 23:30 And Balaq did as Bilam had said, and offered a bullock and a ram on [every] altar.
