 24:1 ¶
And when
Bil`äm
בִּלעָםº
sawºº
thatº
it pleasedººº
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
to blessººº
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל,º
he wentºº
not,º
as at other times,º
to seekºº
for enchantments,º
but he setºº
his faceº
towardº
the wilderness.º |
|
 24:1 ¶
And when Bilam saw that it pleased Yahweh to bless Yisrael, he went not, as at other times, to seek for enchantments, but he set his face toward the wilderness. |
 24:2
And
Bil`äm
בִּלעָםº
lifted upººº
his eyes,º
and he sawººº
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵלº
abidingºº
[in his tents] according to their tribes;º
and the spiritº
of
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִיםº
cameº
uponº
him. |
|
 24:2
And Bilam lifted up his eyes, and he saw Yisrael abiding [in his tents] according to their tribes; and the spirit of Elohim came upon him. |
 24:3
And he took upºº
his parable,º
and said,ºº
Bil`äm
בִּלעָםº
the sonº
of
Bæ`ôr
בְּעוֹרº
hath said,ºº
and the manº
whose eyesº
are openºº
hath said:ºº |
|
 24:3
And he took up his parable, and said, Bilam the son of Beor hath said, and the man whose eyes are open hath said: |
 24:4
He hath said,ºº
which heardºº
the wordsº
of
´Ël
אֵל,º
whichº
sawºº
the visionº
of
Šadday
שַׁדַּי,º
fallingºº
[into a trance], but having his eyesº
open:ºº |
|
 24:4
He hath said, which heard the words of El, which saw the vision of Shadday, falling [into a trance], but having his eyes open: |
 24:5
Howº
goodlyºº
are thy tents,º
O
Ya`áköv
יַעֲקֹב,º
[and] thy tabernacles,º
O
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל!º |
|
 24:5
How goodly are thy tents, O Yaaqov, [and] thy tabernacles, O Yisrael! |
 24:6
As the valleysº
are they spread forth,ºº
as gardensº
byº
the river'sº
side,º
as the trees of lign aloesº
which
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
hath planted,ºº
[and] as cedar treesº
besideº
the waters.º |
|
 24:6
As the valleys are they spread forth, as gardens by the river's side, as the trees of lign aloes which Yahweh hath planted, [and] as cedar trees beside the waters. |
 24:7
He shall pourºº
the waterº
outºº
of his buckets,ºº
and his seedº
[shall be] in manyº
waters,º
and his kingº
shall be higherºº
than
´Áqäq
אֲגָג,ºº
and his kingdomº
shall be exalted.ºº |
|
 24:7
He shall pour the water out of his buckets, and his seed [shall be] in many waters, and his king shall be higher than Agag, and his kingdom shall be exalted. |
 24:8
´Ël
אֵלº
brought him forthºº
out of
Mixrayim
מִצרַיִם;ºº
he hath as it were the strengthº
of an unicorn:º
he shall eat upºº
the nationsº
his enemies,º
and shall breakºº
their bones,º
and pierceºº
[them] throughº
with his arrows.º |
|
 24:8
El brought him forth out of Mitzrayim; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn: he shall eat up the nations his enemies, and shall break their bones, and pierce [them] through with his arrows. |
 24:9
He couched,ºº
he lay downºº
as a lion,º
and as a great lion:º
whoº
shall stir him up?ºº
Blessedºº
[is] he that blessethºº
thee, and cursedºº
[is] he that cursethºº
thee. |
|
 24:9
He couched, he lay down as a lion, and as a great lion: who shall stir him up? Blessed [is] he that blesseth thee, and cursed [is] he that curseth thee. |
 24:10 ¶
And
Bäläk's
בָּלָקº
angerº
was kindledºº
againstº
Bil`äm
בִּלעָם,º
and he smoteºº
his handsº
together:ºººº
and
Bäläk
בָּלָקº
saidºº
untoº
Bil`äm
בִּלעָם,º
I calledºº
thee to curseºº
mine enemies,ºº
and, behold,º
thou hast altogetherºº
blessedºº
[them] theseº
threeº
times.º |
|
 24:10 ¶
And Balaq's anger was kindled against Bilam, and he smote his hands together: and Balaq said unto Bilam, I called thee to curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou hast altogether blessed [them] these three times. |
 24:11
Therefore nowº
fleeºº
thou toº
thy place:º
I thoughtºº
to promoteºº
thee unto greatºº
honour;ºº
but, lo,º
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
hath kept thee backºº
from honour.ºº |
|
 24:11
Therefore now flee thou to thy place: I thought to promote thee unto great honour; but, lo, Yahweh hath kept thee back from honour. |
 24:12
And
Bil`äm
בִּלעָםº
saidºº
untoº
Bäläk
בָּלָק,º
Spakeºº
I notº
alsoº
toº
thy messengersº
whichº
thou sentestºº
untoº
me, saying,ºº |
|
 24:12
And Bilam said unto Balaq, Spake I not also to thy messengers which thou sentest unto me, saying, |
 24:13
Ifº
Bäläk
בָּלָקº
would giveºº
me his houseº
fullº
of silverº
and gold,º
I cannotººº
go beyondººº
the commandmentº
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה,º
to doºº
[either] goodº
orº
badº
of mine own mind;ºº
[but] whatº
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
saith,ºº
that will I speak?ºº |
|
 24:13
If Balaq would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the commandment of Yahweh, to do [either] good or bad of mine own mind; [but] what Yahweh saith, that will I speak? |
 24:14
And now,º
behold,º
I goºº
unto my people:º
comeººº
[therefore, and] I will advertiseºº
thee whatº
thisº
peopleº
shall doºº
to thy peopleº
in the latterº
days.º |
|
 24:14
And now, behold, I go unto my people: come [therefore, and] I will advertise thee what this people shall do to thy people in the latter days. |
 24:15 ¶
And he took upºº
his parable,º
and said,ºº
Bil`äm
בִּלעָםº
the sonº
of
Bæ`ôr
בְּעוֹרº
hath said,ºº
and the manº
whose eyesº
are openºº
hath said:ºº |
|
 24:15 ¶
And he took up his parable, and said, Bilam the son of Beor hath said, and the man whose eyes are open hath said: |
 24:16
He hath said,ºº
which heardºº
the wordsº
of
´Ël
אֵל,º
and knewºº
the knowledgeº
of
`Elyôn
עֶליוֹן,º
[which] sawºº
the visionº
of
Šadday
שַׁדַּי,º
fallingºº
[into a trance], but having his eyesº
open:ºº |
|
 24:16
He hath said, which heard the words of El, and knew the knowledge of Elyon, [which] saw the vision of Shadday, falling [into a trance], but having his eyes open: |
 24:17
I shall seeºº
him, but notº
now:º
I shall beholdºº
him, but notº
nigh:º
there shall comeºº
a Starº
out of
Ya`áköv
יַעֲקֹב,ºº
and a Sceptreº
shall riseºº
out of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל,ºº
and shall smiteºº
the cornersº
of
Mô´äv
מוֹאָב,º
and destroyººº
allº
the childrenº
of
Šë±
שֵׁת.ººº |
|
 24:17
I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not nigh: there shall come a Star out of Yaaqov, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Yisrael, and shall smite the corners of Moav, and destroy all the children of Sheth. |
 24:18
And
´Éðôm
אֱדוֹםº
shall beº
a possession,º
§ë`îr
שֵׂעִירº
also shall beº
a possessionº
for his enemies;ºº
and
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵלº
shall doºº
valiantly.º |
|
 24:18
And Edom shall be a possession, Seir also shall be a possession for his enemies; and Yisrael shall do valiantly. |
 24:19
Out of
Ya`áköv
יַעֲקֹבºº
shall come he that shall have dominion,ºº
and shall destroyºº
him that remainethº
of the city.ºº |
|
 24:19
Out of Yaaqov shall come he that shall have dominion, and shall destroy him that remaineth of the city. |
 24:20 ¶
And when he lookedºº
onºº
`Ámälëk
עֲמָלֵק,º
he took upºº
his parable,º
and said,ºº
`Ámälëk
עֲמָלֵקº
[was] the firstº
of the nations;º
but his latterº
endº
[shall be] that he perishº
for ever.º |
|
 24:20 ¶
And when he looked on Amaleq, he took up his parable, and said, Amaleq [was] the first of the nations; but his latter end [shall be] that he perish for ever. |
 24:21
And he lookedºº
onºº
the
Kênîm
קֵינִים,º
and took upºº
his parable,º
and said,ºº
Strongº
is thy dwellingplace,º
and thou puttestºº
thy nestº
in a rock.º |
|
 24:21
And he looked on the Qenim, and took up his parable, and said, Strong is thy dwellingplace, and thou puttest thy nest in a rock. |
 24:22
Neverthelessºº
Kayin
קַיִןº
shallº
beº
wasted,ºº
untilºº
´Aššûr
אַשּׁוּרº
shall carry thee away captive.ºº |
|
 24:22
Nevertheless Qayin shall be wasted, until Ashshur shall carry thee away captive. |
 24:23
And he took upºº
his parable,º
and said,ºº
Alas,º
whoº
shall liveºº
when
´Ël
אֵלº
doethººº
this! |
|
 24:23
And he took up his parable, and said, Alas, who shall live when El doeth this! |
 24:24
And shipsº
[shall come] from the coastºº
of
Cittîm
כִּתִּים,º
and shall afflictºº
´Aššûr
אַשּׁוּר,º
and shall afflictºº
`Ëver
עֵבֶר,º
and heº
alsoº
shall perishº
for ever.º |

 24:24
And ships [shall come] from the coast of Kittim, and shall afflict Ashshur, and shall afflict Ever, and he also shall perish for ever. |
 24:25
And
Bil`äm
בִּלעָםº
rose up,ºº
and wentººº
and returnedºº
to his place:º
and
Bäläk
בָּלָקº
alsoº
wentºº
his way.º |

And Bilam rose up, and went and returned to his place: and Balaq also went his way. |
