the daughtersº

25:1 ¶
And Yisrael abode in Shittim, and the people began to commit whoredom with the daughters of Moav. |

25:2
And they calledºº
the peopleº
unto the sacrificesº
of their
´élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים:º
and the peopleº
did eat,ºº
and bowed downºº
to their
´élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים.º |

And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their elohim: and the people did eat, and bowed down to their elohim. |
|

And
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵלº
joinedºº
himselfº
unto
Ba`al Pæ`ôr
בַּעַל־פְּעוֹר:º
and the angerº
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
was kindledºº
against
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל.º |

And Yisrael joined himself unto Baal-Peor: and the anger of Yahweh was kindled against Yisrael. |

And

saidºº

מֹשֶׁה,º
Takeººº
allº
the headsº
of the people,º
and hang them upººº
beforeº
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
againstº
the sun,º
that the fierceº
angerº
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
may be turned awayºº
from
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל.ºº |

25:4
And Yahweh said unto Mosheh, Take all the heads of the people, and hang them up before Yahweh against the sun, that the fierce anger of Yahweh may be turned away from Yisrael. |

And Mosheh said unto the judges of Yisrael, Slay ye every one his men that were joined unto Baal-Peor. |

25:6 ¶
And, behold,º
oneº
of the childrenºº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵלº
cameºº
and broughtºº
untoº
his brethrenºº
a
Miðyänî±
מִדיָנִית womanº
in the sightº
of
Möšè
מֹשֶׁה,º
and in the sightº
of allº
the congregationº
of the childrenº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל,º
whoº
[were] weepingºº
[before] the doorº
of the tabernacleº
of the congregation.º |

25:6 ¶
And, behold, one of the children of Yisrael came and brought unto his brethren a Midyanith woman in the sight of Mosheh, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Yisrael, who [were] weeping [before] the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. |
|

And when

אַהֲרֹןº
the priest,º
sawºº
[it], he rose upºº
from amongºº
the congregation,º
and tookºº
a javelinº

And when Pinchas, the son of Elazar, the son of Aharon the priest, saw [it], he rose up from among the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand; |

And he wentºº
afterº
the manº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵלº
intoº
the tent,º
and thrustººº
bothº
of them through,º
the manº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל,º
and the womanº
throughº
her belly.º
So the plagueº
was stayedºº
fromºº
the childrenº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל.º |

25:8
And he went after the man of Yisrael into the tent, and thrust both of them through, the man of Yisrael, and the woman through her belly. So the plague was stayed from the children of Yisrael. |

And those that diedºº
in the plagueº
wereº
twentyº
and fourº
thousand.º |
|
25:9
And those that died in the plague were twenty and four thousand. |
|
25:10 ¶
And

מֹשֶׁה,º
saying,ºº |

And Yahweh spake unto Mosheh, saying, |

פִּינחָס,º
the sonº
of
´El`äzär
אֶלעָזָר,º
the sonº
of
´Ahárön
אַהֲרֹןº
the priest,º
hath turnedºº
my wrathº
awayºººº
fromºº
the childrenº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל,º
while he was zealousºº
for my sakeºº
amongº
them, that I consumedºº
notºº
the childrenº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵלº
in my jealousy.º |

25:11
Pinchas, the son of Elazar, the son of Aharon the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Yisrael, while he was zealous for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Yisrael in my jealousy. |
|
25:12
Whereforeº
say,ºº
Behold,º
I giveºº
unto himº
my covenantº
of peace:º |
|
25:12
Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace: |
|
25:13
And he shall haveº
it, and his seedº
afterº
him, [even] the covenantº
of an everlastingº
priesthood;º
becauseºº
he was zealousºº
for his
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים,º
and made an atonementºº
forº
the childrenº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל.º |

25:13
And he shall have it, and his seed after him, [even] the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was zealous for his Elohim, and made an atonement for the children of Yisrael. |

Now the nameº

[even] thatº

[was]
Zimrî

the sonº

Now the name of the Yisreeli that was slain, [even] that was slain with the Midyanith woman, [was] Zimri, the son of Salu, a prince of a chief house among the Shimonim. |

25:15

[was]
Cozbî
כָּזבִּי,º
the daughterº
of
Xûr
צוּר;º
heº
[was] headº
over a people,º
[and] of a chiefº
houseº

And the name of the Midyanith woman that was slain [was] Kozbi, the daughter of Tzur; he [was] head over a people, [and] of a chief house in Midyan. |

And Yahweh spake unto Mosheh, saying, |

Vex the Midyanim, and smite them: |

Forº
theyº
vexºº
you with their wiles,º
wherewithº
they have beguiledºº
you inº
the matterº

Pæ`ôr
פְּעוֹר,º
and inº
the matterº
of
Cozbî
כָּזבִּי,º
the daughterº
of a princeº
of
Miðyän
מִדיָן,º
their sister,º
which was slainºº
in the dayº
of the plagueº
for
Pæ`ôr's
פְּעוֹרº

For they vex you with their wiles, wherewith they have beguiled you in the matter of Peor, and in the matter of Kozbi, the daughter of a prince of Midyan, their sister, which was slain in the day of the plague for Peor's sake. |
