Isaiah 1

1 Isaiah complaineth of Judah for her rebellion. 5 He lamenteth her judgments. 10 He upbraideth their whole service. 16 He exhorteth to repentance, with promises and threatenings. 21 Bewailing their wickedness, he denounceth God's judgments. 25 He promiseth grace, 28 and threateneth destruction to the wicked.

 1:2 Listen 8085, O heavens 8064, and hear 238, O earth 776; For the LORD 3068 speaks 1696, “Sons 1121 I have reared 1431 and brought 7311 up, But they have revolted 6586 against Me.

 1:3 “An ox 7794 knows 3045 its owner 7069, And a donkey 2543 its master’s 1167 manger 18, [But] Israel 3478 does not know 3045, My people 5971a do not understand 995.”

 1:4 ¶ Alas 1945, sinful 2398 nation 1471, People 5971a weighed 3515 down 3515 with iniquity 5771, Offspring 2233 of evildoers 7489a, Sons 1121 who act 7843 corruptly 7843! They have abandoned 5800a the LORD 3068, They have despised 5006 the Holy 6918 One 6918 of Israel 3478, They have turned 2114a away 2114a from Him.

 1:5 ¶ Where 5921 4100 will you be stricken 5221 again 5750, [As] you continue 3254 in [your] rebellion 5627? The whole 3605 head 7218 is sick 2483 And the whole 3605 heart 3824 is faint 1742.

 1:6 From the sole 3709 of the foot 7272 even to the head 7218 There 369 is nothing 369 sound 4974 in it, [Only] bruises 6482, welts 2250 and raw 2961 wounds 4347, Not pressed 2115 out or bandaged 2280, Nor 3808 softened 7401 with oil 8081.

 1:7 ¶ Your land 776 is desolate 8077, Your cities 5892b are burned 8313 with fire 784, Your fields 127—strangers 2114a are devouring 398 them in your presence 5048; It is desolation 8077, as overthrown 4114 by strangers 2114a.

 1:8 The daughter 1323 of Zion 6726 is left 3498 like a shelter 5521 in a vineyard 3754, Like a watchman’s 4412 hut 4412 in a cucumber 4750 field 4750, like a besieged 5341 city 5892b.

 1:9 Unless 3884a the LORD 3068 of hosts 6635 Had left 3498 us a few 4592 survivors 8300, We would be like Sodom 5467, We would be like 1819 Gomorrah 6017.

 1:10 ¶ Hear 8085 the word 1697 of the LORD 3068, You rulers 7101 of Sodom 5467; Give 238 ear 238 to the instruction 8451 of our God 430, You people 5971a of Gomorrah 6017.

 1:11 “What 4100 are your multiplied 7230 sacrifices 2077 to Me?” Says 559 the LORD 3068. “I have had 7646 enough 7646 of burnt 5930a offerings 5930a of rams 352a And the fat 2459 of fed 4806 cattle 4806; And I take 2654a no 3808 pleasure 2654a in the blood 1818 of bulls 6499, lambs 3532 or goats 6260.

 1:13 “Bring 935 your worthless 7723 offerings 4503 no 3808 longer 3254, Incense 7004 is an abomination 8441 to Me. New 2320 moon 2320 and sabbath 7676, the calling 7121 of assemblies 4744— I cannot 3201 3808 endure 3201 iniquity 205 and the solemn 6116 assembly 6116.

 1:14 “I hate 8130 your new 2320 moon 2320 [festivals] and your appointed 4150 feasts 4150, They have become 1961 a burden 2960 to Me; I am weary 3811 of bearing 5375 [them].

 1:15 “So when you spread 6566 out your hands 3709 [in prayer], I will hide 5956 My eyes 5869 from you; Yes 1571, even 1571 though 3588 you multiply 7235a prayers 8605, I will not listen 8085. Your hands 3027 are covered 4390 with blood 1818.

 1:16 ¶ “Wash 7364 yourselves, make 2135 yourselves clean 2135; Remove 5493 the evil 7455 of your deeds 4611 from My sight 5048 5869. Cease 2308 to do evil 7489a,

 1:17 Learn 3925 to do 3190 good 3190; Seek 1875 justice 4941, Reprove 833 the ruthless 2541, Defend 8199 the orphan 3490, Plead 7378 for the widow 490.

 1:18 ¶ “Come 1980 now 4994, and let us reason 3198 together,” Says 559 the LORD 3068, “Though 518 your sins 2399 are as scarlet 8144, They will be as white 3835a as snow 7950; Though 518 they are red 119 like crimson 8438, They will be like wool 6785.

 1:19 “If 518 you consent 14 and obey 8085, You will eat 398 the best 2898 of the land 776;

 1:20 “But if 518 you refuse 3985 and rebel 4784, You will be devoured 398 by the sword 2719.” Truly 3588, the mouth 6310 of the LORD 3068 has spoken 1696.

 1:21 ¶ How 351a the faithful 539 city 7151 has become 1961 a harlot 2181, She [who] was full 4392 of justice 4941! Righteousness 6664 once lodged 3885a in her, But now 6258 murderers 7523.

 1:22 Your silver 3701 has become 1961 dross 5509, Your drink 5435 diluted 4107 with water 4325.

 1:23 Your rulers 8269 are rebels 5637 And companions 2270 of thieves 1590; Everyone 3605 loves 157 a bribe 7810 And chases 7291 after rewards 8021. They do not defend 8199 the orphan 3490, Nor 3808 does the widow’s 490 plea 7379 come 935 before 413 them.

 1:24 ¶ Therefore 3651 the Lord 136 GOD 3068 of hosts 6635, The Mighty 46 One 46 of Israel 3478, declares 5002, “Ah 1945, I will be relieved 5162 of My adversaries 6862c And avenge 5358 Myself on My foes 340.

 1:25 “I will also turn 7725 My hand 3027 against 5921 you, And will smelt 6884 away your dross 5509 as with lye 1253a And will remove 5493 all 3605 your alloy 913.

 1:26 “Then I will restore 7725 your judges 8199 as at the first 7223, And your counselors 3289 as at the beginning 8462; After 310 that you will be called 7121 the city 5892b of righteousness 6664, A faithful 539 city 7151.”

 1:27 ¶ Zion 6726 will be redeemed 6299 with justice 4941 And her repentant 7725 ones with righteousness 6666.

 1:28 But transgressors 6586 and sinners 2400 will be crushed 7667 together 3164a, And those who forsake 5800a the LORD 3068 will come 3615 to an end 3615.

 1:29 Surely 3588 you will be ashamed 954 of the oaks 352d which 834 you have desired 2530, And you will be embarrassed 2659 at the gardens 1593 which 834 you have chosen 977.

 1:30 For you will be like an oak 424 whose leaf 5929 fades 5034b away 5034b Or as a garden 1593 that has 369 no 369 water 4325.

 1:31 The strong 2634 man 2634 will become 1961 tinder 5296, His work 6467 also a spark 5213. Thus they shall both 8147 burn 1197a together 3164a And there 369 will be none 369 to quench 3518 [them].
