 1:1 ¶ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

 1:1 ¶ Inº the beginningº wasºº theº Word,º andº theº Wordº wasºº withº God,º andº theº Wordº wasºº God.º

 1:2 The same was in the beginning with God.

 1:2 The sameº wasºº inº the beginningº withº God.º

 1:3 All things were made through him; and without him was not anything made that hath been made.

 1:3 All thingsº were madeºº byº him;º andº withoutº himº wasºº notº any thingº madeºº thatº was made.ºº

 1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

 1:4 Inº himº wasºº life;º andº theº lifeº wasºº theº lightº of men.º

 1:5 And the light shineth in the darkness; and the darkness apprehended it not.

 1:5 Andº theº lightº shinethºº inº darkness;º andº theº darknessº comprehendedºº itº not.º

 1:6 ¶ There came a man, sent from God, whose name was John.

 1:6 ¶ There wasºº a manº sentºº fromº God,º whoseº nameº [was] John.º

 1:7 The same came for witness, that he might bear witness of the light, that all might believe through him.

 1:7 The sameº cameºº forº a witness,º toº bear witnessºº ofº theº Light,º thatº allº [men] throughº himº might believe.ºº

 1:8 He was not the light, but [came] that he might bear witness of the light.

 1:8 Heº wasºº notº thatº Light,º butº [was sent] toº bear witnessºº ofº that Light.º

 1:9 There was the true light, [even the light] which lighteth every man, coming into the world.

 1:9 [That] wasºº theº trueº Light,º whichº lightethºº everyº manºº that comethºº intoº theº world.º

 1:10 He was in the world, and the world was made through him, and the world knew him not.

 1:10 He wasºº inº theº world,º andº theº worldº was madeºº byº him,º andº theº worldº knewºº himº not.º

 1:11 He came unto his own, and they that were his own received him not.

 1:11 He cameºº untoº his own,º andº his ownº receivedºº himº not.º

 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he the right to become children of God, [even] to them that believe on his name:

 1:12 Butº as many asº receivedºº him,º to themº gaveº heºº powerº to becomeºº the sonsº of God,º [even] to them that believeºº onº hisº name:º

 1:13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

 1:13 Whichº were born,ºº notº ofº blood,º norº ofº the willº of the flesh,º norº ofº the willº of man,º butº ofº God.º

 1:14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us (and we beheld his glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father), full of grace and truth.

 1:14 Andº theº Wordº was madeºº flesh,º andº dweltºº amongº us,º (andº we beheldºº hisº glory,º the gloryº asº of the only begottenº ofº the Father,)º fullº of graceº andº truth.º

 1:15 ¶ John beareth witness of him, and crieth, saying, This was he of whom I said, He that cometh after me is become before me: for he was before me.

 1:15 ¶ Johnº bare witnessºº ofº him,º andº cried,ºº saying,ºº Thisº wasº heºº of whomº I spake,ºº He that comethºº afterº meº is preferredºº beforeº me:º forº heº wasºº beforeº me.º

 1:16 For of his fulness we all received, and grace for grace.

 1:16 Andº ofº hisº fulnessº haveºº allº weº received,ºº andº graceº forº grace.º

 1:17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

 1:17 Forº theº lawº was givenºº byº Moses,º [but] graceº andº truthº cameºº byº Jesusº Christ.º

 1:18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared [him].

 1:18 No manº hath seenºº Godº at any time;º theº only begottenº Son,º whichº isºº inº theº bosomº of theº Father,º heº hath declaredºº [him].

 1:19 ¶ And this is the witness of John, when the Jews sent unto him from Jerusalem priests and Levites to ask him, Who art thou?

 1:19 ¶ Andº thisº isºº theº recordº of John,º whenº theº Jewsº sentºº priestsº andº Levitesº fromº Jerusalemº toº askºº him,º Whoº artºº thou?º

 1:20 And he confessed, and denied not; and he confessed, I am not the Christ.

 1:20 Andº he confessed,ºº andº deniedºº not;º butº confessed,ººº Iº amºº notº theº Christ.º

 1:21 And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elijah? And he saith, I am not. Art thou the prophet? And he answered, No.

 1:21 Andº they askedºº him,º Whatº then?º Artºº thouº Elias?º Andº he saith,ºº I amºº not.º Artºº thouº that prophet?º Andº he answered,ºº No.º

 1:22 They said therefore unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself?

 1:22 Thenº saidº theyºº unto him,º Whoº artº thou?ºº thatº we may giveºº an answerº to them that sentºº us.º Whatº sayestº thouºº ofº thyself?º

 1:23 He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said Isaiah the prophet.

 1:23 He said,ºº Iº [am] the voiceº of one cryingºº inº theº wilderness,º Make straightºº theº wayº of the Lord,º asº saidºº theº prophetº Esaias.º

 1:24 And they had been sent from the Pharisees.

 1:24 Andº they whichº were sentºº wereºº ofº theº Pharisees.º

 1:25 And they asked him, and said unto him, Why then baptizest thou, if thou art not the Christ, neither Elijah, neither the prophet?

 1:25 Andº they askedºº him,º andº saidºº unto him,º Whyº baptizestº thouºº then,º ifº thouº beºº notº that Christ,º norº Elias,º neitherº that prophet?º

 1:26 John answered them, saying, I baptize in water: in the midst of you standeth one whom ye know not,

 1:26 Johnº answeredºº them,º saying,ºº Iº baptizeºº withº water:º butº there standethº oneºº amongº you,º whomº yeº knowºº not;º

 1:27 [even] he that cometh after me, the latchet of whose shoe I am not worthy to unloose.

 1:27 Heº it is,ºº whoº comingºº afterº meº is preferredºº beforeº me,º whoseºº shoe'sº latchetº Iº amºº notº worthyº toº unloose.ººº

 1:28 These things were done in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

 1:28 These thingsº were doneºº inº Bethabaraº beyondº Jordan,º whereº Johnº wasºº baptizing.ºº

 1:29 ¶ On the morrow he seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold, the Lamb of God, that taketh away the sin of the world!

 1:29 ¶ Theº next dayº Johnº seethºº Jesusº comingºº untoº him,º andº saith,ºº Beholdº theº Lambº of God,º whichº taketh awayºº theº sinº of theº world.º

 1:30 This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man who is become before me: for he was before me.

 1:30 Thisº isº heºº ofº whomº Iº said,ºº Afterº meº comethºº a manº whichº is preferredºº beforeº me:º forº he wasºº beforeº me.º

 1:31 And I knew him not; but that he should be made manifest to Israel, for this cause came I baptizing in water.

 1:31 And Iº knewºº himº not:º butº thatº he should be made manifestºº to Israel,º thereforeºº amºº Iº comeºº baptizingºº withº water.º

 1:32 And John bare witness, saying, I have beheld the Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven; and it abode upon him.

 1:32 Andº Johnº bare record,ºº saying,ººº I sawºº theº Spiritº descendingºº fromº heavenº likeº a dove,º andº it abodeºº uponº him.º

 1:33 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize in water, he said unto me, Upon whomsoever thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and abiding upon him, the same is he that baptizeth in the Holy Spirit.

 1:33 And Iº knewºº himº not:º butº he that sentºº meº to baptizeºº withº water,º the sameº saidºº unto me,º Uponº whomºº thou shalt seeºº theº Spiritº descending,ºº andº remainingºº onº him,º the sameº isºº he which baptizethºº withº the Holyº Ghost.º

 1:34 And I have seen, and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.

 1:34 And Iº saw,ºº andº bare recordºº thatº thisº isºº theº Sonº of God.º

 1:35 ¶ Again on the morrow John was standing, and two of his disciples;

 1:35 ¶ Againº theº next day afterº Johnº stood,ºº andº twoº ofº hisº disciples;º

 1:36 and he looked upon Jesus as he walked, and saith, Behold, the Lamb of God!

 1:36 Andº looking uponºº Jesusº as he walked,ºº he saith,ºº Beholdº theº Lambº of God!º

 1:37 And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.

 1:37 Andº theº twoº disciplesº heardºº himº speak,ºº andº they followedºº Jesus.º

 1:38 And Jesus turned, and beheld them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? And they said unto him, Rabbi (which is to say, being interpreted, Teacher), where abideth thou?

 1:38 Thenº Jesusº turned,ºº andº sawºº themº following,ºº and saithºº unto them,º Whatº seekº ye?ººº They saidºº unto him,º Rabbi,º (whichº is to say,ºº being interpreted,ºº Master,)º whereº dwellestº thou?ºº

 1:39 He saith unto them, Come, and ye shall see. They came therefore and saw where he abode; and they abode with him that day: it was about the tenth hour.

 1:39 He saithºº unto them,º Comeºº andº see.ºº They cameºº andº sawºº whereº he dwelt,ºº andº abodeºº withº himº thatº day:º forº it wasºº aboutº the tenthº hour.º

 1:40 One of the two that heard John [speak], and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.

 1:40 Oneº ofº theº twoº whichº heardººº Johnº [speak], andº followedºº him,º wasºº Andrew,º Simonº Peter'sº brother.º

 1:41 He findeth first his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messiah (which is, being interpreted, Christ).

 1:41 Heº firstº findethºº his ownº brotherº Simon,º andº saithºº unto him,º We have foundºº theº Messias,º whichº is,ººº being interpreted,ºº theº Christ.º

 1:42 He brought him unto Jesus. Jesus looked upon him, and said, Thou art Simon the son of John: thou shalt be called Cephas (which is by interpretation, Peter).

 1:42 Andº he broughtºº himº toº Jesus.º Andº when Jesusº beheldºº him,º he said,ºº Thouº artºº Simonº theº sonº of Jona:º thouº shalt be calledºº Cephas,º whichº is by interpretation,ºº A stone.º

 1:43 ¶ On the morrow he was minded to go forth into Galilee, and he findeth Philip: and Jesus saith unto him, Follow me.

 1:43 ¶ Theº day followingº Jesusº wouldºº go forthºº intoº Galilee,º andº findethºº Philip,º andº saithºº unto him,º Followºº me.º

 1:44 Now Philip was from Bethsaida, of the city of Andrew and Peter.

 1:44 Nowº Philipº wasºº ofº Bethsaida,º theº cityº ofº Andrewº andº Peter.º

 1:45 Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.

 1:45 Philipº findethºº Nathanael,º andº saithºº unto him,º We have foundºº him, of whomº Mosesº inº theº law,º andº theº prophets,º did write,ºº Jesusº ofº Nazareth,º theº sonº of Joseph.º

 1:46 And Nathanael said unto him, Can any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see.

 1:46 Andº Nathanaelº saidºº unto him,º Canºº there anyº good thingº comeºº out ofº Nazareth?º Philipº saithºº unto him,º Comeºº andº see.ºº

 1:47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!

 1:47 Jesusº sawºº Nathanaelº comingºº toº him,º andº saithºº ofº him,º Beholdº an Israeliteº indeed,º inº whomº isºº noº guile!º

 1:48 Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.

 1:48 Nathanaelº saithºº unto him,º Whenceº knowestº thouºº me?º Jesusº answeredºº andº saidºº unto him,º Beforeº that Philipº calledºº thee,º when thou wastºº underº theº fig tree,º I sawºº thee.º

 1:49 Nathanael answered him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art King of Israel.

 1:49 Nathanaelº answeredºº andº saithºº unto him,º Rabbi,º thouº artºº theº Sonº of God;º thouº artºº theº Kingº of Israel.º

 1:50 Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee underneath the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these.

 1:50 Jesusº answeredºº andº saidºº unto him,º Becauseº I saidºº unto thee,º I sawºº theeº underº theº fig tree,º believestº thou?ºº thou shalt seeºº greater thingsº than these.º

 1:51 And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye shall see the heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.

 1:51 Andº he saithºº unto him,º Verily,º verily,º I sayºº unto you,º Hereafterºº ye shall seeºº heavenº open,ºº andº theº angelsº of Godº ascendingºº andº descendingºº uponº theº Sonº of man.º
