 9:1 ¶ And as he passed by, he saw a man blind from his birth.

 9:1 ¶ Andº as [Jesus] passed by,ºº he sawºº a manº which was blindº fromº [his] birth.º

 9:2 And his disciples asked him, saying, Rabbi, who sinned, this man, or his parents, that he should be born blind?

 9:2 Andº hisº disciplesº askedºº him,º saying,ºº Master,º whoº did sin,ºº this man,º orº hisº parents,º thatº he was bornºº blind?º

 9:3 Jesus answered, Neither did this man sin, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.

 9:3 Jesusº answered,ºº Neitherº hathºº this manº sinned,ºº norº hisº parents:º butº thatº theº worksº of Godº should be made manifestºº inº him.º

 9:4 We must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.

 9:4 Iº mustºº workºº theº worksº of him that sentºº me,º whileº it isºº day:º the nightº cometh,ºº whenº no manº canºº work.ºº

 9:5 When I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

 9:5 As long asº I amºº inº theº world,º I amºº the lightº of theº world.º

 9:6 When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and anointed his eyes with the clay,

 9:6 When he had thusº spoken,ºº he spatºº on the ground,º andº madeºº clayº ofº theº spittle,º andº he anointedººº theº eyesº of theº blind manº with theº clay,º

 9:7 and said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam (which is by interpretation, Sent). He went away therefore, and washed, and came seeing.

 9:7 Andº saidºº unto him,º Go,ºº washºº inº theº poolº of Siloam,º (whichº is by interpretation,ºº Sent.)ºº He went his wayºº therefore,º andº washed,ºº andº cameºº seeing.ºº

 9:8 ¶ The neighbors therefore, and they that saw him aforetime, that he was a beggar, said, Is not this he that sat and begged?

 9:8 ¶ Theº neighboursº therefore,º andº they which beforeº had seenºº himº thatº he wasºº blind,º said,ºº Isºº notº thisº he that satºº andº begged?ºº

 9:9 Others said, It is he: others said, No, but he is like him. He said, I am [he].

 9:9 Someº said,ººº Thisº isº he:ººº othersº [said],º He isºº likeº him:º [but] heº said,ººº Iº amºº [he].

 9:10 They said therefore unto him, How then were thine eyes opened?

 9:10 Thereforeº saidº theyºº unto him,º Howº wereºº thineº eyesº opened?ºº

 9:11 He answered, The man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to Siloam, and wash: so I went away and washed, and I received sight.

 9:11 Heº answeredºº andº said,ºº A manº that is calledºº Jesusº madeºº clay,º andº anointedºº mineº eyes,º andº saidºº unto me,º Goºº toº theº poolº of Siloam,º andº wash:ºº andº I wentºº andº washed,ºº andº I received sight.ºº

 9:12 And they said unto him, Where is he? He saith, I know not.

 9:12 Thenº saidº theyºº unto him,º Whereº isºº he?º He said,ºº I knowºº not.º

 9:13 ¶ They bring to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind.

 9:13 ¶ They broughtºº toº theº Phariseesº himº that aforetimeº was blind.º

 9:14 Now it was the sabbath on the day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.

 9:14 Andº it wasºº the sabbath dayº whenº Jesusº madeºº theº clay,º andº openedºº hisº eyes.º

 9:15 Again therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he received his sight. And he said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and I see.

 9:15 Thenº againº theº Phariseesº alsoº askedºº himº howº he had received his sight.ººº Heº saidºº unto them,º He putºº clayº uponº mineº eyes,º andº I washed,ºº andº do see.ºº

 9:16 Some therefore of the Pharisees said, This man is not from God, because he keepeth not the sabbath. But others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such signs? And there was division among them.

 9:16 Thereforeº saidºº someº ofº theº Pharisees,º Thisº manº isºº notº ofº God,º becauseº he keepethºº notº theº sabbath day.º Othersº said,ºº Howº canºº a manº that is a sinnerº doºº suchº miracles?º Andº there wasºº a divisionº amongº them.º

 9:17 They say therefore unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, in that he opened thine eyes? And he said, He is a prophet.

 9:17 They sayºº unto theº blind manº again,º Whatº sayestºº thouº ofº him,º thatº he hath openedºº thineº eyes?ºº Heº said,ºººº He isºº a prophet.º

 9:18 The Jews therefore did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and had received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight,

 9:18 Butº theº Jewsº didºº notº believeºº concerningº him,º thatº he had beenºº blind,º andº received his sight,ºº untilºº theyº calledºº theº parentsº of himº that had received his sight.ºº

 9:19 and asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? How then doth he now see?

 9:19 Andº they askedºº them,º saying,ºº Isºº thisº yourº son,º whoº yeº sayººº wasº bornºº blind?º howº thenº doth heºº nowº see?ºº

 9:20 His parents answered and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind:

 9:20 Hisº parentsº answeredºº themº andº said,ºº We knowºº thatº thisº isºº ourº son,º andº thatº he was bornºº blind:º

 9:21 but how he now seeth, we know not; or who opened his eyes, we know not: ask him; he is of age; he shall speak for himself.

 9:21 Butº by what meansº heºº nowº seeth,ºº we knowºº not;º orº whoº hath openedºº hisº eyes,º weº knowºº not:º heº isºº of age;ºº askºº him:º heº shall speakºº forº himself.º

 9:22 These things said his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man should confess him [to be] Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.

 9:22 Theseº [words] spakeºº hisº parents,º becauseº they fearedºº theº Jews:º forº theº Jewsº had agreedºº already,º thatº ifº any manº did confessºº that heº was Christ,º he should beºº put out of the synagogue.º

 9:23 Therefore said his parents, He is of age; ask him.

 9:23 Thereforeºº saidºº hisº parents,ºº He isºº of age;ºº askºº him.º

 9:24 So they called a second time the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give glory to God: we know that this man is a sinner.

 9:24 Thenº againºº calledº theyºº theº manº thatº wasºº blind,º andº saidºº unto him,º Giveºº Godº the praise:º weº knowºº thatº thisº manº isºº a sinner.º

 9:25 He therefore answered, Whether he is a sinner, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.

 9:25 º Heº answeredººº andº said,ºº Whetherº he beºº a sinnerº [or no], I knowºº not:º one thingº I know,ºº that,º whereas I wasºº blind,º nowº I see.ºº

 9:26 They said therefore unto him, What did he to thee? How opened he thine eyes?

 9:26 Thenº saidº theyºº to himº again,º Whatº didº heºº to thee?º howº openedº heºº thineº eyes?º

 9:27 He answered them, I told you even now, and ye did not hear; wherefore would ye hear it again? would ye also become his disciples?

 9:27 He answeredºº them,º I have toldºº youº already,º andº ye didºº notº hear:ºº whereforeº wouldºº ye hearºº [it] again?º willººº yeº alsoº beºº hisº disciples?º

 9:28 And they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are disciples of Moses.

 9:28 Thenº they reviledºº him,º andº said,ºº Thouº artºº hisº disciple;º butº weº areºº Moses'º disciples.º

 9:29 We know that God hath spoken unto Moses: but as for this man, we know not whence he is.

 9:29 Weº knowºº thatº Godº spakeºº unto Moses:º [as for]º thisºº [fellow], we knowºº notº from whenceº he is.ºº

 9:30 The man answered and said unto them, Why, herein is the marvel, that ye know not whence he is, and [yet] he opened mine eyes.

 9:30 Theº manº answeredºº andº saidºº unto them,º Whyº hereinºº isºº a marvellous thing,º thatº yeº knowºº notº from whenceº he is,ºº andº [yet] he hath openedºº mineº eyes.º

 9:31 We know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and do his will, him he heareth.

 9:31 Nowº we knowºº thatº Godº hearethºº notº sinners:º butº ifº any manº beºº a worshipper of God,º andº doethºº hisº will,º himº he heareth.ºº

 9:32 Since the world began it was never heard that any one opened the eyes of a man born blind.

 9:32 Sinceº the world beganºº was itºº notº heardºº thatº any manº openedºº the eyesº of one that was bornºº blind.º

 9:33 If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.

 9:33 Ifºº this manº wereºº notºº ofº God,º he couldººº doºº nothing.º

 9:34 They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out.

 9:34 They answeredºº andº saidºº unto him,º Thouº wastºº altogetherº bornºº inº sins,º andº dost thouº teachºº us?º Andº they castºº himº out.º

 9:35 Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and finding him, he said, Dost thou believe on the Son of God?

 9:35 Jesusº heardºº thatº they had castºº himº out;º andº when he had foundºº him,º he saidºº unto him,º Dostºº thouº believeºº onº theº Sonº of God?º

 9:36 He answered and said, And who is he, Lord, that I may believe on him?

 9:36 Heº answeredºº andº said,ºº Whoº isº he,ºº Lord,º thatº I might believeºº onº him?º

 9:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and he it is that speaketh with thee.

 9:37 Andº Jesusº saidºº unto him,º Thou hastºº bothº seenºº him,º andº it isºº heº that talkethºº withº thee.º

 9:38 And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him.

 9:38 Andº heº said,ºº Lord,º I believe.ºº Andº he worshippedºº him.º

 9:39 ¶ And Jesus said, For judgment came I into this world, that they that see not may see; and that they that see may become blind.

 9:39 ¶ Andº Jesusº said,ºº Forº judgmentº Iº am comeºº intoº thisº world,º thatº they which seeºº notº might see;ºº andº that they which seeºº might be madeºº blind.º

 9:40 Those of the Pharisees who were with him heard these things, and said unto him, Are we also blind?

 9:40 Andº [some] ofº theº Phariseesº whichº wereºº withº himº heardºº these words,º andº saidºº unto him,º Areººº weºº blindº also?º

 9:41 Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye would have no sin: but now ye say, We see: your sin remaineth.

 9:41 Jesusº saidºº unto them,º Ifº ye wereºº blind,º ye shouldº haveººº noº sin:º butº nowº ye say,ººº We see;ºº thereforeº yourº sinº remaineth.ºº
