 19:1 ¶ Then Pilate therefore took Jesus, and scourged him.

 19:1 ¶ Thenº Pilateº thereforeº tookºº Jesus,º andº scourgedºº [him].

 19:2 And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and arrayed him in a purple garment;

 19:2 Andº theº soldiersº plattedºº a crownº ofº thorns,º and put [it] onºº hisº head,º andº they put onºº himº a purpleº robe,º

 19:3 and they came unto him, and said, Hail, King of the Jews! and they struck him with their hands.

 19:3 Andº said,ºº Hail,ºº Kingº of theº Jews!º andº they smoteºº himº with their hands.ººº

 19:4 And Pilate went out again, and saith unto them, Behold, I bring him out to you, that ye may know that I find no crime in him.

 19:4 Pilateº thereforeº wentºº forthº again,º andº saithºº unto them,º Behold,º I bringºº himº forthº to you,º thatº ye may knowºº thatº I findºº noº faultº inº him.º

 19:5 Jesus therefore came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple garment. And [Pilate] saith unto them, Behold, the man!

 19:5 Thenº cameºº Jesusº forth,º wearingºº theº crownº of thorns,º andº theº purpleº robe.º Andº [Pilate] saithºº unto them,º Beholdº theº man!º

 19:6 When therefore the chief priests and the officers saw him, they cried out, saying, Crucify [him], crucify [him]! Pilate saith unto them, Take him yourselves, and crucify him: for I find no crime in him.

 19:6 Whenº theº chief priestsº thereforeº andº officersº sawºº him,º they cried out,ºº saying,ºº Crucifyºº [him], crucifyºº [him]. Pilateº saithºº unto them,º Takeºº yeº him,º andº crucifyºº [him]: forº Iº findºº noº faultº inº him.º

 19:7 The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by that law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.

 19:7 Theº Jewsº answeredºº him,º Weº haveºº a law,º andº byº ourº lawº he oughtºº to die,ºº becauseº he madeºº himselfº the Sonº of God.º

 19:8 ¶ When Pilate therefore heard this saying, he was the more afraid;

 19:8 ¶ Whenº Pilateº thereforeº heardºº thatº saying,º he wasºº the moreº afraid;ººº

 19:9 and he entered into the Praetorium again, and saith unto Jesus, Whence art thou? But Jesus gave him no answer.

 19:9 Andº wentºº againº intoº theº judgment hall,º andº saithºº unto Jesus,º Whenceº artºº thou?º Butº Jesusº gaveºº himº noº answer.º

 19:10 Pilate therefore saith unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? Knowest thou not that I have power to release thee, and have power to crucify thee?

 19:10 Thenº saithºº Pilateº unto him,º Speakestº thouºº notº unto me?º knowestº thouºº notº thatº I haveºº powerº to crucifyºº thee,º andº haveºº powerº to releaseºº thee?º

 19:11 Jesus answered him, Thou wouldest have no power against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath greater sin.

 19:11 Jesusº answered,ºº Thouº couldest haveºº noºº powerº [at all] againstºº me,º exceptººº it wereºº givenºº theeºº from above:º thereforeºº he that deliveredºº meº unto theeºº hathºº the greaterº sin.º

 19:12 Upon this Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou release this man, thou art not Caesar's friend: every one that maketh himself a king speaketh against Caesar.

 19:12 And fromº thenceforthº Pilateº soughtºº to releaseºº him:º butº theº Jewsº cried out,ºº saying,ºº Ifº thou letºº this manº go,ººº thou artºº notº Caesar'sº friend:º whosoeverº makethºº himselfºº a kingº speaketh againstºº Caesar.º

 19:13 ¶ When Pilate therefore heard these words, he brought Jesus out, and sat down on the judgment-seat at a place called The Pavement, but in Hebrew, Gabbatha.

 19:13 ¶ When Pilateº thereforeº heardºº thatº saying,º he broughtºº Jesusº forth,º andº sat downºº inº theº judgment seatº inº a placeº that is calledºº the Pavement,º butº in the Hebrew,º Gabbatha.º

 19:14 Now it was the Preparation of the passover: it was about the sixth hour. And he saith unto the Jews, Behold, your King!

 19:14 Andº it wasºº the preparationº of theº passover,º andº aboutº the sixthº hour:º andº he saithºº unto theº Jews,º Beholdº yourº King!º

 19:15 They therefore cried out, Away with [him], away with [him], crucify him! Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar.

 19:15 Butº theyº cried out,ºº Away withºº [him], away withºº [him], crucifyºº him.º Pilateº saithºº unto them,º Shall I crucifyºº yourº King?º Theº chief priestsº answered,ºº We haveºº noº kingº butº Caesar.º

 19:16 Then therefore he delivered him unto them to be crucified.

 19:16 Thenº deliveredº heºº himº thereforeº unto themº toº be crucified.ºº Andº they tookºº Jesus,º andº led [him] away.ºº

 19:17 They took Jesus therefore: and he went out, bearing the cross for himself, unto the place called The place of a skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha:

 19:17 Andº he bearingºº hisºº crossº went forthºº intoº a placeº calledºº [the place] of a skull,º whichº is calledºº in the Hebrewº Golgotha:º

 19:18 where they crucified him, and with him two others, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst.

 19:18 Whereº they crucifiedºº him,º andº twoº otherº withº him,º on either side one,ºº andº Jesusº in the midst.º

 19:19 ¶ And Pilate wrote a title also, and put it on the cross. And there was written, JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS.

 19:19 ¶ Andºº Pilateº wroteºº a title,º andº putºº [it] onº theº cross.º Andº the writingºº was,ºº JESUSº OF NAZARETHº THEº KINGº OF THEº JEWS.º

 19:20 This title therefore read many of the Jews, for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city; and it was written in Hebrew, [and] in Latin, [and] in Greek.

 19:20 Thisº titleº thenº readºº manyº of theº Jews:º forº theº placeº whereº Jesusº was crucifiedºº wasºº nighº toº theº city:º andº it wasºº writtenºº in Hebrew,º [and] Greek,º [and] Latin.º

 19:21 The chief priests of the Jews therefore said to Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews; but that he said, I am King of the Jews.

 19:21 Thenº saidºº theº chief priestsº of theº Jewsº to Pilate,º Writeºº not,º Theº Kingº of theº Jews;º butº thatº heº said,ºº Iº amºº Kingº of theº Jews.º

 19:22 Pilate answered, What I have written I have written.

 19:22 Pilateº answered,ºº Whatº I have writtenºº I have written.ºº

 19:23 ¶ The soldiers therefore, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also the coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout.

 19:23 ¶ Thenº theº soldiers,º whenº they had crucifiedºº Jesus,º tookºº hisº garments,º andº madeºº fourº parts,º to everyº soldierº a part;º andº alsoº [his] coat:º nowº theº coatº wasºº without seam,º wovenº fromº theº topº throughout.ºº

 19:24 They said therefore one to another, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my garments among them, And upon my vesture did they cast lots.

 19:24 They saidºº thereforeº amongº themselves,º Let usºº notº rendºº it,º butº cast lotsºº forº it,º whoseº it shall be:ºº thatº theº scriptureº might be fulfilled,ºº whichº saith,ºº They partedºº myº raimentº among them,º andº forº myº vestureº they did castºº lots.º These thingsºº thereforeºº theº soldiersº did.ºº

 19:25 ¶ These things therefore the soldiers did. But there were standing by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the [wife] of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.

 19:25 ¶ Nowº there stoodºº byº theº crossº of Jesusº hisº mother,º andº hisº mother'sº sister,º Maryº theº [wife]º of Cleophas,º andº Maryº Magdalene.º

 19:26 When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!

 19:26 When Jesusº thereforeº sawºº his mother,º andº theº discipleº standing by,ºº whomº he loved,ºº he saithºº unto hisºº mother,º Woman,º beholdºº thyº son!º

 19:27 Then saith he to the disciple, Behold, thy mother! And from that hour the disciple took her unto his own [home].

 19:27 Thenº saithº heºº to theº disciple,º Beholdºº thyº mother!º Andºº fromº thatº hourº that discipleº tookºº herº untoº his ownº [home].

 19:28 ¶ After this Jesus, knowing that all things are now finished, that the scripture might be accomplished, saith, I thirst.

 19:28 ¶ Afterº this,º Jesusº knowingºº thatº all thingsº wereºº nowº accomplished,ºº thatº theº scriptureº might be fulfilled,ºº saith,ºº I thirst.ºº

 19:29 There was set there a vessel full of vinegar: so they put a sponge full of the vinegar upon hyssop, and brought it to his mouth.

 19:29 Nowº there was setºº a vesselº fullº of vinegar:º andº theyº filledºº a spungeº with vinegar,º andº put [it] uponºº hyssop,º andº putºº [it]º to hisº mouth.º

 19:30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up his spirit.

 19:30 Whenº Jesusº thereforeº had receivedºº theº vinegar,º he said,ºº It is finished:ºº andº he bowedºº his head,º and gave upºº theº ghost.º

 19:31 The Jews therefore, because it was the Preparation, that the bodies should not remain on the cross upon the sabbath (for the day of that sabbath was a high [day]), asked of Pilate that their legs might be broken, and [that] they might be taken away.

 19:31 Theº Jewsº therefore,º becauseº it wasººº the preparation,º thatººº theº bodiesº shouldºº notºº remainºº uponº theº crossº onº theº sabbath day,º (forº thatº sabbathº dayºº wasºº an highº day,)ºº besoughtºº Pilateº thatº theirº legsº might be broken,ºº andº [that] they might be taken away.ºº

 19:32 The soldiers therefore came, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other that was crucified with him:

 19:32 Thenº cameºº theº soldiers,º andº brakeºº theº legsº of theºº first,º andº of theº otherº whichº was crucified withºº him.º

 19:33 but when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:

 19:33 Butº whenº they cameºº toº Jesus,º andº sawºº that heº was deadºº already,º they brakeºº notº hisº legs:º

 19:34 howbeit one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and straightway there came out blood and water.

 19:34 Butº oneº of theº soldiersº with a spearº piercedºº hisº side,º andº forthwithº came there outºº bloodº andº water.º

 19:35 And he that hath seen hath borne witness, and his witness is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye also may believe.

 19:35 Andº he that sawºº [it] bare record,ºº andº hisº recordº isºº true:º and heº knowethºº thatº he saithºº true,º thatº yeº might believe.ºº

 19:36 For these things came to pass, that the scripture might be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.

 19:36 Forº these thingsº were done,ºº thatº theº scriptureº should be fulfilled,ºº A boneº of himº shallºº notº be broken.ºº

 19:37 And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.

 19:37 Andº againº anotherº scriptureº saith,ºº They shall lookºº onº him whomº they pierced.ºº

 19:38 ¶ And after these things Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, asked of Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave [him] leave. He came therefore, and took away his body.

 19:38 ¶ Andº afterº thisº Josephº ofº Arimathaea,º beingºº a discipleº of Jesus,º butº secretlyºº forº fearº of theº Jews,º besoughtºº Pilateº thatº he might take awayºº theº bodyº of Jesus:º andº Pilateº gave [him] leave.ºº He cameºº therefore,º andº tookºº theº bodyº of Jesus.º

 19:39 And there came also Nicodemus, he who at the first came to him by night, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds.

 19:39 Andº there cameºº alsoº Nicodemus,º whichº at the firstº cameººº toº Jesusº by night,º and broughtºº a mixtureº of myrrhº andº aloes,º aboutº an hundredº poundº [weight].

 19:40 So they took the body of Jesus, and bound it in linen cloths with the spices, as the custom of the Jews is to bury.

 19:40 Thenº tookº theyºº theº bodyº of Jesus,º andº woundºº itº in linen clothesº withº theº spices,º asº the mannerº of theº Jewsº isºº to bury.ºº

 19:41 Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new tomb wherein was never man yet laid.

 19:41 Nowº inº theº placeº whereº he was crucifiedºº there wasºº a garden;º andº inº theº gardenº a newº sepulchre,º whereinºº wasºº neverºº manº yetºº laid.ºº

 19:42 There then because of the Jews' Preparation (for the tomb was nigh at hand) they laid Jesus.

 19:42 Thereº laidº theyºº Jesusº thereforeº becauseº ofº theº Jews'º preparationº [day]; forº theº sepulchreº wasºº nigh at hand.º
