 4:1 ¶ And when Šä´ûl's שָׁאוּלº sonº heardºº thatº ´Avnër אַבנֵרº was deadºº in Çevrôn חֶברוֹן,º his handsº were feeble,ºº and allº the Yi$ræ´ëlîm יִשׂרְאֵלִיםº were troubled.ºº

 4:1 ¶ And when Shaul's son heard that Avner was dead in Chevron, his hands were feeble, and all the Yisreelim were troubled.

 4:2 And Šä´ûl's שָׁאוּלº sonº hadºº twoº menºº [that were] captainsº of bands:º the nameº of the oneº [was] Ba`ánà בַּעֲנָה,º and the nameº of the otherº Rë¢äv רֵכָב,º the sonsº of Rimmôn רִמּוֹןº a Bæ´ërö±î בְּאֵרֹתִי,º of the childrenºº of Binyämîn בִּניָמִין:º (forº Bæ´ërö± בְּאֵרֹתº alsoº was reckonedºº toº Binyämîn בִּניָמִין:º

 4:2 And Shaul's son had two men [that were] captains of bands: the name of the one [was] Baanah, and the name of the other Rekhav, the sons of Rimmon a Beerothi, of the children of Binyamin: (for Beeroth also was reckoned to Binyamin:

 4:3 And the Bæ´ërö±îm בְּאֵרֹתִיםº fledºº to Gittäyim גִּתָּיִם,º and wereº sojournersºº thereº untilº thisº day.)º

 4:3 And the Beerothim fled to Gittayim, and were sojourners there until this day.)

 4:4 And Yæhônä±än יְהוֹנָתָן,º Šä´ûl's שָׁאוּלº son,º had a sonº [that was] lameº of [his] feet.º He wasº fiveº yearsº oldº when the tidingsº cameºº of Šä´ûl שָׁאוּלº and Yæhônä±än יְהוֹנָתָןº out of Yizræ`e´l יִזרְעֶאל,ºº and his nurseºº took him up,ºº and fled:ºº and it came to pass,º as she made hasteºº to flee,ºº that he fell,ºº and became lame.ºº And his nameº [was] Mæfîvöše± מְפִיבֹשֶׁת.º

 4:4 And Yehonathan, Shaul's son, had a son [that was] lame of [his] feet. He was five years old when the tidings came of Shaul and Yehonathan out of Yizreel, and his nurse took him up, and fled: and it came to pass, as she made haste to flee, that he fell, and became lame. And his name [was] Mefivosheth.

 4:5 And the sonsº of Rimmôn רִמּוֹןº the Bæ´ërö±î בְּאֵרֹתִי,º Rë¢äv רֵכָבº and Ba`ánà בַּעֲנָה,ºº went,ººº and cameºº about the heatº of the dayº toº the houseº of ´Îš Böše± אִישׁ־בֹּשֶׁת,º whoº layºº onº a bedº at noon.º

 4:5 And the sons of Rimmon the Beerothi, Rekhav and Baanah, went, and came about the heat of the day to the house of Ish-Bosheth, who lay on a bed at noon.

 4:6 And they cameº thitherººº intoº the midstº of the house,º [as though] they would have fetchedºº wheat;º and they smoteºº him underº the fifthº [rib]: and Rë¢äv רֵכָבº and Ba`ánà בַּעֲנָהº his brotherº escaped.ºº

 4:6 And they came thither into the midst of the house, [as though] they would have fetched wheat; and they smote him under the fifth [rib]: and Rekhav and Baanah his brother escaped.

 4:7 For when they cameºº into the house,º heº layºº onº his bedº in his bedchamber,ºº and they smoteºº him, and slewºº him, and beheadedºººº him, and tookººº his head,º and gat them awayººº throughº the plainº allº night.º

 4:7 For when they came into the house, he lay on his bed in his bedchamber, and they smote him, and slew him, and beheaded him, and took his head, and gat them away through the plain all night.

 4:8 And they broughtººº the headº of ´Îš Böše± אִישׁ־בֹּשֶׁתº untoº Däwið דָּוִדº to Çevrôn חֶברוֹן,º and saidºº toº the king,º Beholdº the headº of ´Îš Böše± אִישׁ־בֹּשֶׁתº the sonº of Šä´ûl שָׁאוּלº thine enemy,ºº whichº soughtººº thy life;º and Yähwè יָהוֶהº hathºº avengedºº my ´áðôn אֲדוֹןº the kingº thisº dayº of Šä´ûl שָׁאוּל,ºº and of his seed.ºº

 4:8 And they brought the head of Ish-Bosheth unto Dawid to Chevron, and said to the king, Behold the head of Ish-Bosheth the son of Shaul thine enemy, which sought thy life; and Yahweh hath avenged my adon the king this day of Shaul, and of his seed.

 4:9 ¶ And Däwið דָּוִדº answeredººº Rë¢äv רֵכָבº and Ba`ánà בַּעֲנָהº his brother,º the sonsº of Rimmôn רִמּוֹןº the Bæ´ërö±î בְּאֵרֹתִי,º and saidºº unto them, [As] Yähwè יָהוֶהº liveth,º whoº hath redeemedººº my soulº out of allºº adversity,º

 4:9 ¶ And Dawid answered Rekhav and Baanah his brother, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothi, and said unto them, [As] Yahweh liveth, who hath redeemed my soul out of all adversity,

 4:10 Whenº one toldºº me, saying,ºº Behold,º Šä´ûl שָׁאוּלº is dead,ºº thinkingº to haveº broughtº good tidings,ºº I took holdºº of him, and slewºº him in Xîklaq צִיקלַג,º whoº [thought] that I would have givenºº him a reward for his tidings:º

 4:10 When one told me, saying, Behold, Shaul is dead, thinking to have brought good tidings, I took hold of him, and slew him in Tziqlag, who [thought] that I would have given him a reward for his tidings:

 4:11 How much more,º whenº wickedº menºº have slainººº a righteousº personº in his own houseº uponº his bed?º shall I notº therefore nowº requireººº his bloodº of your hand,ºº and take you awayººº fromº the earth?º

 4:11 How much more, when wicked men have slain a righteous person in his own house upon his bed? shall I not therefore now require his blood of your hand, and take you away from the earth?

 4:12 And Däwið דָּוִדº commandedººº his young men,º and they slewºº them, and cut offººº their handsº and their feet,º and hanged [them] upºº overº the poolº in Çevrôn חֶברוֹן.º But they tookºº the headº of ´Îš Böše± אִישׁ־בֹּשֶׁת,º and buriedºº [it] in the sepulchreº of ´Avnër אַבנֵרº in Çevrôn חֶברוֹן.º

 4:12 And Dawid commanded his young men, and they slew them, and cut off their hands and their feet, and hanged [them] up over the pool in Chevron. But they took the head of Ish-Bosheth, and buried [it] in the sepulchre of Avner in Chevron.
