 5:1 ¶ Then cameºº allº the tribesº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº toº Däwið דָּוִדº unto Çevrôn חֶברוֹן,º and spake,ºº saying,ºº Behold,º weº [are] thy boneº and thy flesh.º

 5:1 ¶ Then came all the tribes of Yisrael to Dawid unto Chevron, and spake, saying, Behold, we [are] thy bone and thy flesh.

 5:2 Alsoº in time past,ºº when Šä´ûl שָׁאוּלº wasº kingº overº us, thouº wastº he that leddest outºº and broughtestºº inºº Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל:º and Yähwè יָהוֶהº saidºº to thee, Thouº shalt feedººº my peopleºº Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,º and thouº shalt beº a captainº overº Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל.º

 5:2 Also in time past, when Shaul was king over us, thou wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Yisrael: and Yahweh said to thee, Thou shalt feed my people Yisrael, and thou shalt be a captain over Yisrael.

 5:3 So allº the eldersº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº cameºº toº the kingº to Çevrôn חֶברוֹן;º and kingº Däwið דָּוִדº madeºº a leagueº with them in Çevrôn חֶברוֹןº beforeº Yähwè יָהוֶה:º and they anointedººº Däwið דָּוִדº kingº overº Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל.º

 5:3 So all the elders of Yisrael came to the king to Chevron; and king Dawid made a league with them in Chevron before Yahweh: and they anointed Dawid king over Yisrael.

 5:4 ¶ Däwið דָּוִדº [was] thirtyº yearsº oldº when he began to reign,ºº [and] he reignedºº fortyº years.º

 5:4 ¶ Dawid [was] thirty years old when he began to reign, [and] he reigned forty years.

 5:5 In Çevrôn חֶברוֹןº he reignedºº overº Yæhûðà יְהוּדָהº sevenº yearsº and sixº months:º and in Yærûšälaim יְרוּשָׁלִַםº he reignedºº thirtyº and threeº yearsº overº allº Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº and Yæhûðà יְהוּדָה.º

 5:5 In Chevron he reigned over Yehudah seven years and six months: and in Yerushalaim he reigned thirty and three years over all Yisrael and Yehudah.

 5:6 ¶ And the kingº and his menºº wentººº to Yærûšälaim יְרוּשָׁלִַםº untoº the Yævûsîm יְבוּסִים,º the inhabitantsºº of the land:º which spakeºº unto Däwið דָּוִד,º saying,ºº Exceptºº thou take awayºº the blindº and the lame,º thou shalt notº come inºº hither:º thinking,ºº Däwið דָּוִדº cannotº come inºº hither.º

 5:6 ¶ And the king and his men went to Yerushalaim unto the Yevusim, the inhabitants of the land: which spake unto Dawid, saying, Except thou take away the blind and the lame, thou shalt not come in hither: thinking, Dawid cannot come in hither.

 5:7 Nevertheless Däwið דָּוִדº tookººº the strong holdº of Xiyyôn צִיּוֹן:º the sameº [is] the cityº of Däwið דָּוִד.º

 5:7 Nevertheless Dawid took the strong hold of Tziyyon: the same [is] the city of Dawid.

 5:8 And Däwið דָּוִדº saidºº on thatº day,º Whosoeverº getteth upºº to the gutter,º and smitethºº the Yævûsîm יְבוּסִים,º and the lameº and the blind,º [that are] hatedºº of Däwið's דָּוִדº soul,º [he shall be chief and captain]. Whereforeºº they said,ºº The blindº and the lameº shall notº comeºº intoº the house.º

 5:8 And Dawid said on that day, Whosoever getteth up to the gutter, and smiteth the Yevusim, and the lame and the blind, [that are] hated of Dawid's soul, [he shall be chief and captain]. Wherefore they said, The blind and the lame shall not come into the house.

 5:9 So Däwið דָּוִדº dweltºº in the fort,º and calledºº it the cityº of Däwið דָּוִד.º And Däwið דָּוִדº builtºº round aboutº fromº Millô´ מִלּוֹאº and inward.º

 5:9 So Dawid dwelt in the fort, and called it the city of Dawid. And Dawid built round about from Millo and inward.

 5:10 And Däwið דָּוִדº wentºº on,ºº and grew great,º and Yähwè יָהוֶהº ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº Xævä´ô± צְבָאוֹתº [was] withº him.

 5:10 And Dawid went on, and grew great, and Yahweh Elohim Tzevaoth [was] with him.

 5:11 ¶ And Çîräm חִירָםº kingº of Xôr צוֹרº sentºº messengersº toº Däwið דָּוִד,º and cedarº trees,º and carpenters,ºº and masons:ºººº and they builtºº Däwið דָּוִדº an house.º

 5:11 ¶ And Chiram king of Tzor sent messengers to Dawid, and cedar trees, and carpenters, and masons: and they built Dawid an house.

 5:12 And Däwið דָּוִדº perceivedºº thatº Yähwè יָהוֶהº had establishedºº him kingº overº Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,º and thatº he had exaltedºº his kingdomº for his peopleº Yi$rä´ël's יִשׂרָאֵלº sake.º

 5:12 And Dawid perceived that Yahweh had established him king over Yisrael, and that he had exalted his kingdom for his people Yisrael's sake.

 5:13 ¶ And Däwið דָּוִדº tookºº [him] moreº concubinesº and wivesº out of Yærûšälaim יְרוּשָׁלִַם,ºº afterº he was comeºº from Çevrôn חֶברוֹן:ºº and there were yetº sonsº and daughtersº bornºº to Däwið דָּוִד.º

 5:13 ¶ And Dawid took [him] more concubines and wives out of Yerushalaim, after he was come from Chevron: and there were yet sons and daughters born to Dawid.

 5:14 And theseº [be] the namesº of those that were bornº unto him in Yærûšälaim יְרוּשָׁלִַם;º Šammûå` שַׁמּוּעַ,º and Šôväv שׁוֹבָב,º and Nä±än נָתָן,º and Šælömò שְׁלֹמֹה,º

 5:14 And these [be] the names of those that were born unto him in Yerushalaim; Shammua, and Shovav, and Nathan, and Shelomoh,

 5:15 Yivçär יִבחָרº also, and ´Élîšûå` אֱלִישׁוּעַ,º and Nefeq נֶפֶג,º and Yäfîå` יָפִיעַ,º

 5:15 Yivchar also, and Elishua, and Nefeg, and Yafia,

 5:16 And ´Élîšämä` אֱלִישָׁמָע,º and ´Elyäðä` אֶליָדָע,º and ´Élîfäle+ אֱלִיפָלֶט.º

 5:16 And Elishama, and Elyada, and Elifalet.

 5:17 ¶ But when the Pælištîm פְּלִשׁתִּיםº heardºº thatº they had anointedººº Däwið דָּוִדº kingº overº Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,º allº the Pælištîm פְּלִשׁתִּיםº came upºº to seekººº Däwið דָּוִד;º and Däwið דָּוִדº heardºº [of it], and went downºº toº the hold.º

 5:17 ¶ But when the Pelishtim heard that they had anointed Dawid king over Yisrael, all the Pelishtim came up to seek Dawid; and Dawid heard [of it], and went down to the hold.

 5:18 The Pælištîm פְּלִשׁתִּיםº also cameºº and spreadºº themselvesº in the valleyº of Ræfä´îm רְפָאִים.º

 5:18 The Pelishtim also came and spread themselves in the valley of Refaim.

 5:19 And Däwið דָּוִדº enquiredºº of Yähwè יָהוֶה,º saying,ºº Shall I go upºº toº the Pælištîm פְּלִשׁתִּים?º wilt thou deliverºº them into mine hand?º And Yähwè יָהוֶהº saidºº untoº Däwið דָּוִד,º Go up:ºº forº I will doubtlessºº deliverººº the Pælištîm פְּלִשׁתִּיםº into thine hand.º

 5:19 And Dawid enquired of Yahweh, saying, Shall I go up to the Pelishtim? wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And Yahweh said unto Dawid, Go up: for I will doubtless deliver the Pelishtim into thine hand.

 5:20 And Däwið דָּוִדº cameºº to Ba`al Pæräxîm בַּעַל־פְּרָצִים,º and Däwið דָּוִדº smoteºº them there,º and said,ºº Yähwè יָהוֶהº hath broken forthºº uponºº mine enemiesºº beforeº me, as the breachº of waters.º Thereforeºº he calledºº the nameº of thatº placeº Ba`al Pæräxîm בַּעַל־פְּרָצִים.º

 5:20 And Dawid came to Baal-Peratzim, and Dawid smote them there, and said, Yahweh hath broken forth upon mine enemies before me, as the breach of waters. Therefore he called the name of that place Baal-Peratzim.

 5:21 And thereº they leftººº their images,º and Däwið דָּוִדº and his menºº burnedºº them.

 5:21 And there they left their images, and Dawid and his men burned them.

 5:22 ¶ And the Pælištîm פְּלִשׁתִּיםº came upºº yetº again,ºº and spreadºº themselvesº in the valleyº of Ræfä´îm רְפָאִים.º

 5:22 ¶ And the Pelishtim came up yet again, and spread themselves in the valley of Refaim.

 5:23 And when Däwið דָּוִדº enquiredºº of Yähwè יָהוֶה,º he said,ºº Thou shalt notº go up;ºº [but] fetch a compassººº behindº them, and comeºº upon them over againstºº the mulberry trees.º

 5:23 And when Dawid enquired of Yahweh, he said, Thou shalt not go up; [but] fetch a compass behind them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees.

 5:24 And let it be,º when thou hearestººº the soundº of a goingº in the topsº of the mulberry trees,º that thenº thou shalt bestirºº thyself: forº thenº shall Yähwè יָהוֶהº go outºº beforeº thee, to smiteºº the hostº of the Pælištîm פְּלִשׁתִּים.º

 5:24 And let it be, when thou hearest the sound of a going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt bestir thyself: for then shall Yahweh go out before thee, to smite the host of the Pelishtim.

 5:25 And Däwið דָּוִדº didº so,ººº asº Yähwè יָהוֶהº had commandedºº him; and smoteººº the Pælištîm פְּלִשׁתִּיםº from Geva` גֶּבַעºº until thou comeºº to Gäzer גָּזֶר.º

 5:25 And Dawid did so, as Yahweh had commanded him; and smote the Pelishtim from Geva until thou come to Gazer.
