Jeremiah 14

1 The grievous famine 7 causeth Jeremiah to pray. 10 The LORD will not be intreated for the people. 13 Lying prophets are no excuse for them. 17 Jeremiah is moved to complain for them.

 14:1 That which 834 came 1961 as the word 1697 of the LORD 3068 to Jeremiah 3414 in regard 1697 to the drought 1224b:

 14:2 “Judah 3063 mourns 56 And her gates 8179 languish 535; They sit 6937 on the ground 776 in mourning 6937, And the cry 6682 of Jerusalem 3389 has ascended 5927.

 14:3 “Their nobles 117 have sent 7971 their servants 6810 for water 4325; They have come 935 to the cisterns 1356a and found 4672 no 3808 water 4325. They have returned 7725 with their vessels 3627 empty 7387; They have been 954 put 954 to shame 954 and humiliated 3637, And they cover 2645 their heads 7218.

 14:4 “Because 5668 the ground 127 is cracked 2865, For there has been 1961 no 3808 rain 1653 on the land 776; The farmers 406 have been 954 put 954 to shame 954, They have covered 2645 their heads 7218.

 14:5 “For even 1571 the doe 355 in the field 7704 has given 3205 birth 3205 only to abandon 5800a [her young], Because 3588 there is no 3808 grass 1877.

 14:6 “The wild 6501 donkeys 6501 stand 5975 on the bare 8205 heights 8205; They pant 7602a for air 7307 like jackals 8565, Their eyes 5869 fail 3615 For there 369 is no 369 vegetation 6212a.

 14:7 “Although 518 our iniquities 5771 testify 6030a against us, O LORD 3068, act 6213a for Your name’s 8034 sake 4616! Truly 3588 our apostasies 4878 have been 7231 many 7231, We have sinned 2398 against You.

 14:8 “O Hope 4723a of Israel 3478, Its Savior 3467 in time 6256 of distress 6869a, Why 4100 are You like a stranger 1616 in the land 776 Or like a traveler 732 who has pitched 5186 his [tent] for the night 3885a?

 14:9 “Why 4100 are You like a man 376 dismayed 1724, Like a mighty 1368 man 1368 who cannot 3201 3808 save 3467? Yet You are in our midst 7130, O LORD 3068, And we are called 7121 by Your name 8034; Do not forsake 5117 us!”

 14:10 ¶ Thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068 to this 2088 people 5971a, “Even so 3651 they have loved 157 to wander 5128; they have not kept 2820 their feet 7272 in check 2820. Therefore the LORD 3068 does not accept 7521 them; now 6258 He will remember 2142 their iniquity 5771 and call 6485 their sins 2403b to account 6485.”

 14:11 So the LORD 3068 said 559 to me, “Do not pray 6419 for the welfare 2899b of this 2088 people 5971a.

 14:12 “When 3588 they fast 6684, I am not going to listen 8085 to their cry 7440; and when 3588 they offer 5927 burnt 5930a offering 5930a and grain offering 4503, I am not going to accept 7521 them. Rather 3588 I am going to make 3615 an end 3615 of them by the sword 2719, famine 7458 and pestilence 1698.”

 14:13 ¶ But, “Ah 162, Lord 136 GOD 3068!” I said 559, “Look 2009, the prophets 5030 are telling 559 them, ‘You will not see 7200 the sword 2719 nor 3808 will you have 1961 famine 7458, but I will give 5414 you lasting 571 peace 7965 in this 2088 place 4725.’”

 14:14 Then the LORD 3068 said 559 to me, “The prophets 5030 are prophesying 5012 falsehood 8267 in My name 8034. I have neither 3808 sent 7971 them nor 3808 commanded 6680 them nor 3808 spoken 1696 to them; they are prophesying 5012 to you a false 8267 vision 2377, divination 7081, futility 457 and the deception 8649b of their own minds 3820.

 14:15 “Therefore 3651 thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068 concerning 5921 the prophets 5030 who are prophesying 5012 in My name 8034, although it was not I who sent 7971 them—yet they keep saying 559, ‘There will be no 3808 sword 2719 or famine 7458 in this 384 land 776’—by sword 2719 and famine 7458 those 1992a prophets 5030 shall meet 8552 their end 8552!

 14:16 “The people 5971a also to whom 834 they are prophesying 5012 will be thrown 7993 out into the streets 2351 of Jerusalem 3389 because 4480 6440 of the famine 7458 and the sword 2719; and there 369 will be no 369 one 369 to bury 6912 them—[neither] them, [nor] their wives 802, nor 369 their sons 1121, nor 369 their daughters 1323—for I will pour 8210 out their [own] wickedness 7463a on them.

 14:17 “You will say 559 this 2088 word 1697 to them, ‘Let my eyes 5869 flow 3381 down 3381 with tears 1832 night 3915 and day 3119, And let them not cease 1820; For the virgin 1330 daughter 1323 of my people 5971a has been crushed 7665 with a mighty 1419 blow 4347, With a sorely 3966 infected 2470a wound 4347.

 14:18 ‘If 518 I go 3318 out to the country 7704, Behold 2009, those slain 2491a with the sword 2719! Or if 518 I enter 935 the city 5892b, Behold 2009, diseases 8463 of famine 7458! For both 1571 prophet 5030 and priest 3548 Have gone roving 5503 about 5503 in the land 776 that they do not know 3045.’”

 14:19 ¶ Have You completely 3988a rejected 3988a Judah 3063? Or 518 have You loathed 1602 Zion 6726? Why 4069 have You stricken 5221 us so that we are beyond 369 healing 4832? [We] waited 6960a for peace 7965, but nothing 369 good 2896b [came]; And for a time 6256 of healing 4832, but behold 2009, terror 1205!

 14:20 We know 3045 our wickedness 7562, O LORD 3068, The iniquity 5771 of our fathers 1, for we have sinned 2398 against You.

 14:21 Do not despise 5006 [us], for Your own name’s 8034 sake 4616; Do not disgrace 5034a the throne 3678 of Your glory 3519b; Remember 2142 [and] do not annul 6565a Your covenant 1285 with us.

 14:22 Are there 3426 any 3426 among the idols 1892 of the nations 1471 who give 1652 rain 1652? Or 518 can the heavens 8064 grant 5414 showers 7241? Is it not You, O LORD 3068 our God 430? Therefore we hope 6960a in You, For You are the one who has done 6213a all 3605 these 428 things 428.
